Driving a Mercedes to pick up vouchers

Darlena Cuhna joins Don Lemon to reveal the life circumstances that lead her to drive a Mercedes to pick up food vouchers

So, the author of the Washington Post article “This is what happened when I drove my Mercedes to pick up food stamps” was interviewed on CNN tonight, and was absolutely amazing.

My favorite part was when she ripped into the idea that they should have sold the Mercedes:

Well, what’s the point of that? Honestly.

We had - it was a 2003 so we would have gotten a couple of thousand dollars for it and we would have had to buy a new car -  because I was working at the time, which I think is also being glossed over. After my maternity leave, I went back to work. And I needed a car to drive 90 miles one way and 90 miles back the other way. And he needed a car in case there was an emergency with our kids.

So to sell the Mercedes - to take the time to put it up, and then take the time to get a sale, and then take the time to find another car that’s maybe less reliable, that is gonna - that we need car payments on, or we could pay totally off but it’s a beater and it’s going to break down every two seconds and then we have to pay for repairs and it’s always in the shop? There's no reason to do that. So we didn’t.

Bless you, Darlena.

Also, I feel compelled to point out tha this woman is the mastermind behind, a super uplifting body positivity blog that everybody should go follow now.
