Deep Conditioning Mix for the GAWDS!

Ever have those moments when your tried-and-true conditioner just falls flat? You condition and condition…and nothing happens, even though you left it in your hair longer than the prescribed time?

I’ve definitely been there, especially at the very beginning of my healthy hair journey. My hair was extremely dry, couldn’t hold moisture, and was constantly breaking. I started using this deep conditioning mixture and routine to nurse my strands back to health, and even though my distressed, relaxed hair days are behind me, it’s still a staple in my hair regimen, especially during the cold days of winter and when my hair has overdosed on UV rays in the summer.

Thirsty Coils Deep Conditioning Mix (use at least once a week for best results)

A few squirts of two of your most moisturizing conditioners (Tresemme Naturals, Aussie Moist 3-Minute Deep Conditioner and Suave Shea Butter and Almond are all low-cost and extremely effective options)

A squirt or two of a very light protein conditioner (Herbal Essences Long-term Relationship is great for this recipe, but also feel free to use whatever you have on hand)

Castor oil or Sweet Almond Oil for shine

Olive oil for slip and nourishment

Coconut oil to penetrate the hair shaft

Jojoba oil if you have it on hand (it’s scalp-friendly, and the roots of my hair soak this stuff up)

Mix all of the ingredients into a bowl, pop it into the microwave for no more than 5-10 seconds, and work the concoction into your hair. For all of my previously chemically-treated girls, be sure to concentrate on your roots, just as you would a chemical process. This is the good stuff, and every strand needs it :)

The moisture, oils, and shot of protein do the trick every time. If you have all-natural, virgin hair, you probably won’t need protein every single week–be sure to only use the light protein conditioner in your mixture every other week or even just once a month.

Hope this helps!

Five Delicious foods for Healthier Hair

Kale & Spinach

Spinach and Kale are incredibly nutritious and beneficial veggies to add to your regular diet.

Because these powerhouse greens are high in vitamin C, vitamin K and calcium, they help to strengthen your hair.

Plus, thanks to their high water content, they provide your hair with moisture and contribute to its overall appearance.

Sweet Potatoes

Rich in vitamin A, sweet potatoes are excellent for cell growth thanks to its high beta-carotene content.

Without enough vitamin A, our curls can really become dried out and brittle.

Bonus: the antioxidants in them also fight aging, your skin will thank you as well.

Lentils

Protein is an important component for hair growth because without enough protein for keratin (which gives our hair its structure), strands become weaker and hair growth slows down immensely.

Lentils are a great source of iron-rich protein and can assist in maintaining steady lengthening of your curls over time.

Avocado

There are myriad DIY treatments that include avocado as an ingredient due to its awesome moisturizing properties, but you can do your hair a favor by doing more than just putting it on your hair.

Eating avocados is great for your curls because they’re loaded with vitamin E, vitamin C, B6 and other nutrients including antioxidants that protect against cell damage.

Aloe Vera Juice

We all know good old H20 is the chief source for moisture but sipping on aloe vera juice is also great for preventing parched hair.

It is helpful for bringing thickness back to thinning hair, reducing dandruff from excessive dryness and also stimulates hair growth.

I just wanted you to know that this thing is a liquid miracle for damaged hair. I’ve been bleaching it for over an year now, and I’ve totally burnt it out once by mistake. Now I learned how to bleach it properly but, of course, the hair is parched and dehydrated.
I used this ONCE and my hair has never been so soft. It’s also a lot easier to style.
I also have the matching shampoo and now I’m tempted to buy the same conditioner too.
