Just a little thought of how Humans are very paradoxical, and how Humans can be “corrupted”.
FLZ-659, of Fluz as his human crewman called him, was on the ship for one reason, and one reason only. Collect data about the new species, humans/Terrains, and report it back to the Council at Vica, the leaders of his planet. Fluz’s country was small, so it didn’t even bother with an army. Instead it used knowledge as its power. Thanks to fast optical reflexes, fast processing of information, and a third eye, Fluz’s people could read any new species like an open book. Fluz could tell if they were more predators or more prey. He could find their weak points.
However, the human was a paradox. Commander of weapons management, Kyle, and Lituenant of the Engineering crew, Barbara, are both humans, but both are vastly different.
Kyle was extroverted and always wore a flag related to a region on Earth on his Left shoulder. When questioned, Fluz was told that the flag was for “THE BEST GODDAMN COUNTRY IN THE UNIVERSE” but no matter how hard he researched it, he couldn’t find a region called “THE BEST GODDAMN COUNTRY IN THE UNIVERSE”. Fluz eventually gave up.
Barbara was introverted, though she got along fine with her fellow engineers. One her first day of the job, Fluz watched her get led around by the captain. When the captain commented that he was happy that she could “join the team”, her eyes filled with water. After research, Fluz discovered it as a sign of high emotion.
The two of them were vastly different, so Fluz wrote “diverse” into his notes. He didn’t feel they were a threat. In fact, Kyle had bonded with almost everybody on the ship, and he helped keeping them united. Barbara has blossomed under her engineering job. She became close with her fellow engineers, and her productivity has risen to meet that of the captain himself. Fluz wrote “A capable species” down next to “harmless”.
That was, however, before they had to deliver the human criminal to the Galaxy Prison. A high security prison with a 0% escape rate where the worse villains go. None of Fluz’s people had been sent there, and none ever will. Fluz’s people were peaceful, like the humans.
That’s why he was so shocked when he heard of the upcoming mission. Under normal circumstances, the Overwatch would never do a mission like this. However, this criminal was an escape artist, and many planets believed Terran would lose him. The Overwatch’s plan was to beam him up into a cell with nothing but trousers on. But first, commanders with fighting experience were beamed down to watch the human to make sure he wouldn’t make any dangerous moves. Since Kyle beamed down, Fluz went with him.
All the commanders lined up on either side of a small dirt trail leading to a circle carved into the ground.
Then the human prisoner was lead out of a giant box with holes in it, and Fluz felt the atmosphere change. The small spikes on his chattered against each other nervously, making a vague hum sound.
The prisoner was in a straight jacket and wore a muzzle, but he still looked like he was the most dangerous man in the teleporting circle. His hair was unkept, and hung in bunches by his face. He was too far for Fluz to see his eyes. Then, he started his slow stride that made Fluz’s prey instincts scream to run.
As he got closer, Fluz could see into the criminals eyes, but Fluz wished that he hadn’t. His eyes were at first a vacant haze, but then his eyes darted to Fluz’s and he saw the depths. Insanity, circling around him and choking him. Bloodlust, as of the 45 Humans he killed weren’t enough. But also, a deep pain. A pain that had drove him here. That had pushed him over the wall. But any remorse Fluz migh have felt were wiped when the criminal turned his head at an odd angle while still staring at Fluz. Fluz saw the fearlessness. The criminal, even though he was being moved to the worst prison in the known universe, wasn’t afraid. He actually looked like he was enjoying himself. Fluz knew that the prisoner must be smirking under the muzzle.
And then the moment was gone, and the prisoner was beamed aboard the Overwatch.
Fluz hastily scribbled out his notes from earlier. Instead he wrote, “Can be extremely deadly if pushed over the edge.”
Later that week, the universes best prison escape rate went up to .1%.
This card is all kinds of nuts. With enough mana sources that don’t come from lands, Paradox Engine can just keep you going indefinitely. Everything other than your lands are untapped when you cast something, so perhaps something around six mana can really get you everything you need. Whether you’re just infinitely casting Capsize, or even without going infinite getting a little extra mana or giving your creatures pseudo vigilance, this artifact is going to demand that it be answered, or you’re going to probably pull away with the game in short order.
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.
