6 insane things to do that prove Indonesia is the most epic holiday hotspot to visit
From beautiful beaches to delicious street food, Indonesia has it all. You’re almost never short on places to go and activities to do. But if you’re looking for a something more unusual to experience, you’d be surprised at the trove of undiscovered sights and scenes this archipelago paradise has hidden.
1. Feel like a kid again at the Rainbow Village (Kampung Pelangi) in Semarang
Who would’ve thought a fresh splash of paint would turn this former slum district into an overnight sensation?! The vibrant new facelift was the community project to rejuvenate the dull hill-side village and re-instil a sense of belonging to the locals.
The result is a multi-coloured kaleidoscope of rainbow roofs, fruit-striped railings and polka-dot panels, perfect for posting on Instagram.
2. Find solace at the Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) in Bali
Just what exactly is ‘broken’ about it you ask? Well the iconic stone arch used to be a cave before it collapsed to form the geological phenomenon we see today. The damaged beach combines the green hills above with the blue seas below which creates a peaceful and tranquil landscape due to the remoteness of its location.
If you’re looking to step away from Bali’s bustling tourist scene, a visit to this exclusive coastal cliff might just be the perfect escape.
3. Get front row seats to the Ram Fights in Bandung
Believe it or not, the age-old tradition of ram fighting is deeply rooted in Sudanese culture and has been around for hundreds of years. Fights usually take place once a week on the outskirts of town and come complete with live traditional music, loud drums and blaring announcements from the commentators.
Contrary to the brutality of this event, no bloodshed is involved. Ram owners take great pride in training and grooming their sheep for battle—much like professional athletes! If there was a chance that a ram might be hurt, the fight would be stopped immediately.
4. Descent into the dark depths of Jomblang Cave in Yogyakarta
Visitors can put their courage to the test as they make their dramatic descent down the vertical cliff.
The height of the cave ranges from 40 to 80 metres from the roof to the cave floor. A thick ancient forest also resides within the cave itself, as well as the famous ‘heavenly light‘ which shines in from the cave’s entrance above. Those brave enough to dangle above the rocky cavern below is in for an experience of a lifetime.
5. Trek to the Abandoned Chicken Church of Central Java, Yogyakarta
Don’t be alarmed if you stumble upon this towering bird-like structure while trekking through the Magelang forest. The gigantic chicken chapel was built as a place of worship during the 1990s, but was later vacated when construction costs became too high. Although it was never finished, the building remains a hit with many unconventional explorers looking gain entry into the now eerie-looking church for a dramatic 360-degree selfie atop the fowl’s soaring head.
6. Visit the birthplace of Ayam Penyet in Indonesia
Anyone who’s ever had a plate of this delectable chicken dish in Singapore can only imagine how it would taste like right from the source! $2.50 SGD gets you a succulent fried chicken thigh, smashed with a mortar and covered in crunchy chicken flakes, served alongside a bowl of burning hot sambal belacan, fried tahu and tempeh. Killer.
Semarang also has its very own special version of Popiah as well as one of the best Mee Gorengs in the world. #nojoke
I know where’s my next holiday destination, do you? Start saving and find affordable fares at Airasia so you’ll have more money for the amazing activities and many plates of Ayam Penyets!
So if Wonder Woman is from an all-women island, how do they continue to exist? I mean, how do they reproduce?
Oh, I could geek out extensively about all possible theories, but I don't really like any of them. I have a single theory for all women-only islands in all works of fiction ever: trans women.
Like, the texts just say they're all women. No where in canon does it ever say that they have to be all cisgender. The most logical explanation would be a species close to humans as physically diverse as ours, where the male gender identity simply didn't exist.
So Paradise Island is like 50% cisgender women and 50% transgender women.
And intersex women of course. But without any men around to invent sexism, and with cissexism and transphobia being products of sexism, I don't think the women on paradise island see any of these things as seperate categories. They're all just women with different bodies.
Headcanon fucking accepted forever and I don't even give a shit about comics or super heroes. Anyone not using this explanation for all-woman islands is a fucking coward.
The Chase of Love (Jason Todd x Reader) | Part Two
Request from: @paradise-runway Request: “Could I please request more of the Jason Todd x Reader soulmate au? It was amazing, you’re amazing, I love your work <3” Warnings: Swearing Tagged: @grumpycheshirecat
It’s only been about two weeks since you’ve met your soulmate, and Jason had already invited you to move in with him. You wonder if maybe you’re moving a little too fast– though was it really possible to ‘move too quickly’ when the relationship was with the one you were destined to be with? Either way, you had accepted, and got all of your belongings packed up and ready to go.
You had just arrived when you heard a whistle of astonishment thrown you way, and you turn from your task of picking up a box to see Jason standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame.
“That’s a lot of stuff,” He states.
“Well, I did pack everything,” You tease.
“All under 24 hours?”
“I had some motivation,” You say, bumping his shoulder with yours as you make your way inside.
You hear him follow behind you. “So, does that mean you don’t need my help carrying things?”
“I don’t need you to, but it would be appreciated. That is, unless you were hoping to just enjoy the view.” You place the box down on the floor, before turning back to him to give him a smirk.
The comment seems to catch him off guard for a moment, but he’s quick to regain his composure and smirk back. “When you put it like that, the choice becomes pretty difficult to make.” You laugh. “But I guess I’ll choose to be appreciated. Besides, I’ll get to look at your everyday now.” He pauses. “That sounded creepy and really weird. I didn’t– I just– you’re moving in so now we’ll be able to spend more time together and get to know each other better and–”
You give him a light kiss that immediately gets him to shut up, and you smile at him gently. “I know, I’m excited.” You wrap your arms around him, which he’s more than happy to reciprocate. “I get to look at you everyday now too.”
He snorts and rests his head atop your own while you place your ear right above his heart. The sound of his lungs breathing and his heart beating bring you almost an overwhelming sense of calm. Your heart is bursting with a comfortable warmth, and you’re sure you’ve never been more happy and at peace in your entire life.
The both of you stay like that for a few minutes, before he breaks off the hug with a quiet and reluctant: “We should get your stuff all set up.”
It takes the rest of the day for the both of you to get everything situated, and the second it hits 6 pm, Jason’s putting on his gear to head out for the night. He’s about half-way through the window when he suddenly freezes.
“Oh shit, I almost forgot,” He motions you closer, and you approach with a raised eyebrow. He quickly takes his helmet off, places a kiss on your cheek, winks, and then puts it back on. “There. All set.”
You watch him grapple away and place a hand over the spot he pecked. The mark on your wrist begins tingling. With a wide smile, you roll your eyes. “Dork.”
Nesta could feel the grey light of dawn pressing against her eyelids, but she refused to open them. Last night had not been what she’d imagined. It had not been what she’d dreamt of or longed for…
But it had been perfect nonetheless.
She’d been sad and angry again, and Cassian had stayed with her, had walked her home after the meeting. He’d not gone to many meetings in the year since the war’s end, and they’d not spoken much in the weeks since Starfall—when he’d left her, crying and alone and hollow in the entryway of her small apartment.
But yesterday had been the anniversary of her mother’s death. A date Feyre was too young to recall, a date Elain was too medial to look back on, a date Nesta was too old to forget.
So Nesta remembered. Because Nesta always remembered. Because Nesta remembered everything even if she wanted to forget.
Cassian’s breath blew out in a white cloud in front of him. He’d been walking around for hours, hours. He knew it was freezing, knew winter was on it’s way, yet he didn’t feel anything. Not the cold, not the hoarfrost on his jacket—nothing. The early morning sky was still black and filled with stars in every direction. Beautiful and untouchable. Like her—no, not like her.
He hated himself.
What had he done? What had he done?
He’d told himself he’d only go to the meeting to see how she was doing. They’d all had dinner as a group, and maybe it had been the alcohol, or the scent of her sadness so palpable in the air around her—but he’d walked her home.
And with the alcohol thinning the walls between them, thinning the walls she kept between her and the world, he’d thought she’d never looked more beautiful.
Heartbreakingly so, with her sadness and her anger.
