In honor of the opening preview of Finding Neverland on Broadway tomorrow, here is “The Circus of Your Mind” from the 8/10 Preview of the show from its run at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA!
some of the reasons why you should watch and love finding neverland:
so it’s based off the author of ‘peter pan’ and his inspiration for the story and rediscovering childhood wonder, etc. See? Already you’re like ‘yeah that’s really rad’
the soundtrack is catchy, emotional and epic.
STAGING AND SETS. ok, there are so many awesome moments but the best includes an epic rotating merry-go-round of doors, an imaginary pirate ship and a fabulous tavern where everyone gets drunk and nostalgic.
motherfreaking CHOREOGRAPHY. There is such a cool blend of contemporary expressive dance style and classic musical style. E.g. an epic imaginative table routine where the kids and servants take over a boringly posh dinner IT’S SO FAB.
THE SERVANTS. OH MY LORD. THEY DESERVE CAPITAL LOCKS FOR BEING SO HILARIOUS AND SASSY. THEY ARE GREAT DANCERS AND ARE OVER-DRAMATIC GENIUSES. SO FUNNY. YOU MAY DIE LAUGHING.
There are 3 main female characters who are all given interesting storylines. One is a mother who is also fun and tragic and WILL BREAK YOUR HEART AS YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH HER. One is the grandma, who is a bit uptight at first but is actually the biggest softie and takes care of her family like A BOSS. There’s the main guy’s wife, Mary, who just wants to be loved and cared for and although she kinda opposes the main couple SHE’S NOT PRESENTED AS A VILLAIN HELL YES.
It’s beautiful. Seriously. You’ll laugh so hard that your stomach is in agony, and then you’ll bawl and weep like a babe.
