“Woe! (It’s a pity!) Hanina, Son of Hanina, [May he(?)] ascend!”

Funerary reliefs like this one from Palmyra, Syria, were used to seal off a burial chamber within a tomb. The image of the deceased is identified by the Aramaic inscription carved beside the head (see text above).
