I play the piano, very tentatively when I was a kid, when I was six or younger but not very long as we didn’t have room for a piano in our flat. Then I think I went onto the trumpet because I liked the solo in “You Can Call me Al” in the Paul Simon song. Then I went onto play the accordion because I thought it would get me in the good books with my then headmaster but I think that didn’t last very long.

Marigold's Adventures at Oz Comic Con, The Dean O'Gorman Panel

A beautiful hour of question taking, talking about photography, The Hobbit (The Dwarf Film/The Dwarvit), The Almighty Johnsons, chest hair, booty and fun times.

Hopefully they’ll post the video of this panel soon (because I know they were filming), but I wanted to share some of the stories he told us to the best of my memory. This is by no means in order.

I also wrote about what happened when I went and got my photo with Dean. You can read about it here.

God, that’s a bit morbid. But that’s fine, it’s a good question. Well I guess the quote, most of you superfans will know everything I’ve ever said or done but, you know it, it’s “Dance as though no one’s watching, sing as no one can hear you, love as though you’ve never been hurt and live life as if heaven is on earth.” Which, I just think is a really good, sort of way not to be overly concerned of people’s perception of you, be free in expressing yourself and to enjoy everything you have now. With ultimate respect for any religion that gives you an understanding of something beyond this life. Just enjoy what you have now and be good to those around you. There’s another phrase that’s going around and round my head, it’s a beautiful lyric from the new Elbow album Guy Garvey, My Sad Captains,”And if it’s all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.” It’s beautiful, but anyway that’s Guy Garvey for you. He’s a master.

Joanne Kelly panel, Oz Comic Con, Brisbane 7-9-14

Apparently Joanne’s first ever solo panel.

Sadly we were beyond the point where photos are allowed when Eddie crashed the panel to mock Jo and then ran the mic around for questions for the rest of the panel (complete with commando rolls across the stage, climbing over chairs and providing his own commentary).

Now I’m sure for many people the appearance of Eddie was the highlight of the panel but my heart lies elsewhere.

Jo said Jaime Murray was her favourite guest star and HG Wells was her favourite villain.

She was asked which was her favourite HG episode and said, “I smell apples.” She said that the scene where HG is tied to the chair is great but that it was the moment when HG sacrifices herself to save “me and I realise how important I am to her.” Eddie - “I thought it was because of me, because I was important to her.” Jo - “Well you thought wrong, it was me.”

Be still my shipper heart.
