over the last two days...

…joining Occupy Wall Street West’s actions in the SF financial district: walking around in the rain, standing around awkwardly, talking to strangers, watching the police mass and circle us…and then leave, a non-violent direct action briefing, a tiny affinity group, standing on a street corner eating from ‘the food bank of America’ while discussing the need for structural change, walking between actions huddled against the rain and arguing about reform // finding my way around the city, looking anxiously out of the window of trams for landmarks, relearning market street as a site of protest // arguing with strangers on a tram about Ron Paul // preparations: finding a map, cold-weather gear, a sim card for my mobile // joining the counter-protest against the walk for life: walking uncertainly up to a small group, being shouted at by a street preacher with a megaphone, watching as a line of women got into the path of the march and were pushed and dragged off by police (wanting to join them, knowing I shouldn’t), trying to have a calm discussion with two pro-lifers who approached us (arguing, among other things, that even their belief system should require the use of a rational and consistent ethical framework, so at least they should be vegetarian), the small hope given by seeing a few 'pro-life’ signs that were anti-war and against the death penalty // a long walk after the protest with a new friend, talking about activism and life-politics and finding your way in strange cities…
