It starts as a whimper, but turns quickly to the angry growl he only produces before a fight. You feel it rumble in his chest, deep and low, and you know. Sitting up you carefully turn to face him, pressing a few fingers to the skin of his cheek. His face tight, not relaxed like it should be during sleep. ‘Hey.’ You barely whisper, his eyes fly open, body jerking at the change. 'Bad dream.’ He mumbled, placing his own hand on top of yours.

He’s not here, he’s not here. He’s so far away so so far from you. You shake in your bed, arms wrapped around your knees, there is no way to talk to him anymore. You start, jerking fast in your spot. Your eyes fly open. It had been so real, it had all been so real. Like it was happening. But he was here, his eyes meet yours, clouded with worry, dark with concern. 'Babe?’ You press your face into his chest. You don’t want to let him see the tears in your eyes. He’s okay. 'You’re here.’

Brought on by a stupid stupid horror movie, something poorly acted and even more poorly produced. But it had achieved its goal, his face flushed, he turned, pulling the sheets with him, waking you from your own sleep. You sat up, the weak groan leaving his lips signaling something was wrong. Hands on his shoulders, you shake. Eyes opening, hungrily taking in the surroundings like he thought he might never see them again. A heavy sigh of relief.

You awoke in a cold sweat, sitting up alert on the mattress. He looked at you, startled, before noticing tears you still hadn’t realized fell. 'Baby.’ His arms pulled you close, tugging you against him. Forming a shield with his arms, his body. You curled into him, shaking against his bare chest. 'Shhhh. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re here, you’re safe. I’m here, I’m safe.’ His lips found your hair, pressing a soft kiss to the crown of your head.
