own a tea shop

okay, but this book though.
Set in 1880 New York, this book tells the story of two witches who own a tea shop that helps that ladies of the neighbourhood by providing wisdom and remedy teas all while dealing with the oppression of women at the time AND the mania still floating around about witches.
Also.
Lesbians.
And.

I could literally rant about this book forever but ! Even more amazing ! It actually has proper witchcraft in the book !!! It pays homage to Wiccan traditions and all of the herbs actually correspond with their meanings. As well as this it delves quite deeply into the Witches Ladder and even has the chant !
An amazing book that I think should be going crazy on witchblr right now

My friend texted me late one night and was wondering 10 reasons to keep living. This is what I told her.
—
  • sometimes nights will feel cold and empty when there’s no reason for it. live for these nights. embrace them. dance in them. do what you need to feel complete again, make tea, watch movies, write poetry and wear your prettiest pajamas. and when they are over, rejoice because you made yourself feel whole again. you did that. live for the nights in which you heal yourself.
  • words have more power than you think. they can save you. you need to live to see these beautiful words that will come, and sometimes they’ll come to you in the form of songs or poetry or texts or even the words that come out of your own mouth. live for these words.
  • there’s no such thing as a stupid reason to stay alive. think of these reasons and hold onto them. you want to see the finale of your favorite show? you want to wait for that clothes order to arrive? you want to play your entire volleyball season? and when those little things to look forward to run out, find more. live for the tiny things that make you happy.
  • being “something” is easier than you think. passions come across when you’re not even expecting them. you love morning tea? live for those morning cups of tea. buy a teapot, get yourself a ton of flavors of tea. try every flavor of tea known to humankind. make your own tea. open a tea shop. make a tea kettle. live for your passions.
  • boredom is a dangerous thing. I know sometimes you want to lay in bed and do nothing, and sometimes that helps but more often it doesn’t. a lot of the time staying busy will be the only thing that will help. find those little distractions and live for them. they may seem like chores or busywork but you’ll grow to love them, I promise. paint your nails, try a ton of hairstyles, go through all your drawers and throw out old stuff, do 100 sit ups, spend an hour looking through all your music and create a master playlist of your favorite stuff, research things you’ve always wondered like ‘why do cats have whiskers’, look up motivational videos, watch interviews of your favorite band. you’ll feel productive. do anything to keep your hands and mind busy. live for being busy.
  • self-love is hard to achieve and it’s a lot of work but it’s so wonderful. learn to love yourself. stop rejecting compliments, accept them and maybe you’ll finally come to see them as true. self-love isn’t thinking that you’re perfect, it’s knowing that you’re human and beautiful and you have more prettiness in you than flaws. it’s also knowing that yes, you are beautiful on the outside in your own unique way, but you are more beautiful on the inside than anything. make it your mission to finally recognize that you are a good soccer player, that you have really pretty colored hair, that you are your own worst critic and you are full of stardust and fairy kisses and you can conquer the entire world. live for loving yourself.
  • people are not as fragile as you think. you keep watering yourself down and you’re receiving watered down love. it won’t hurt them if you show your entire self in all it’s glory. it won’t hurt them to tell them what you really think. you are full of comets, stars, galaxies that they should be dying to see. show who you truly are. and if people are too fragile to handle it? leave them. if they can’t handle the complete version of you, the you that makes you happiest, the you you’re not ashamed of, then they don’t deserve you. live for being yourself.
  • we are a flawed, broken people. life doesn’t have a meaning. the universe will end someday. people get sad and hurt every day. these are all things that are true, sad, but true. sometimes we just need to acknowledge that things are true, let ourselves feel what we feel, and move on. live for acknowledgement. but also…
  • we are a flawed, broken people but that makes us all the more beautiful. life doesn’t have a meaning but you can make one for yourself. the universe will end someday so we should make it as beautiful as we can before it leaves. people get sad and hurt every day but they get better. live for positivity, live for knowing that you’ll be okay.
  • once in a while it will seem like nothing is going right. it may seem that way right now. but remember that you always, always have someone, in good times and in bad. even if everyone else abandons you, I’ll be here. I will stand by you in your brightest days and your darkest days, in my stormy skies and in my sunshiny afternoons. I will be a shoulder for you to lean on, I will do my best to make you happy when I can and help you when you’re sad. live for the people that love you and make you happy. live for me, and the countless other people that want you to keep walking this beautiful earth. live because there is so much left to see, live because there is too much left to do. live because one day, you’ll be sitting at your kitchen table with sunlight streaming through the window at just the right angle with a cup of coffee and a gentle smile on your face, and you’ll have a wonderful job and a beautiful family and friends that love you with their entire hearts, and you’ll be so, so glad that you stayed alive to witness that very moment.

"We write notes to each other on the desk we share at different times and I never knew who I was talking to until I saw you stay behind after class to write on it and holy shit yoU’RE HOT" for zutara pls???

hi so sorry for taking so long with this prompt (it’s super cute by the way, thank you for sending it!!)

—————

Zuko rolls his eyes at his notebook, though he continues to take down the notes. Some of the decisions the leaders of the past made were idiotic, but whatever. He’s got a final to study for, he can’t be bothered to mull over why dead men did what they did. He shifts his notebook to reach the edge of the page - and his eye is caught by the writing in the corner.

Graffiti on the desks has long been a popular tradition at this university, but Zuko has never bothered to pay attention to it. However, he’s intrigued by the blue ink etched into the desk. He moves his notebook aside to read it.

“May flowers grow in the saddest parts of you.”

He doesn’t know what compels him to grab his pen and press it into the wood under the phrase. Maybe it’s the gentleness of the words; it’s a terribly tender thing to wish a total stranger, but it speaks to that part of him, the part that’s been wounded and scarred.

“May the sun light the darkest parts of you.”

Zuko stares at the words, etched into the wood with red ink, fresh and glistening. He suddenly feels stupid - he doesn’t even know who wrote that, what is he thinking? Scowling, he caps his pen and flips his notebook shut, stuffing it into his bag when the professor dismisses the class. He leaves the room and he doesn’t look back.

—————————————-

When he returns to the desk two days later, he finds a fresh message in blue ink under the one he’d left in red.

“May the moon cradle you in your loneliest hours.”

His heart stumbles in his chest. Zuko glances around the room surreptitiously, but he doesn’t find anyone else looking his way. So the poet isn’t in this class.

Zuko looks back at the writing. He digs his phone out and takes a picture, feeling overcome with the need to preserve this conversation, to keep it on record somewhere, because this is the strangest and yet the most romantic and gentle conversation he’s ever had in his life.

The tip of his pen touches the wood, but he hesitates. He’s never been good with words - that he came up with that first line at all is a mini miracle. But he doesn’t want this to end just yet.

“May the stars provide you company on your restless nights.”

He stares at the words, and then he presses his hand to his face. What is he even doing?

Though he supposes Uncle would be proud of him for venturing out on something so romantic and exciting.

Zuko flops back in his chair. He’s been spending too much time with the old man.

Still, he peeks at the phrases again, wondering what he’ll get in response.

—————————————-

For Zuko, two weeks is a spectacular amount of time for something to be drawn out. He has little to no patience, and as fun as this game’s been, he can’t take the mystery anymore.

He needs to know before he explodes.

So he waits.

He waits through three periods, and just when he’s about to give up on discovering who this person is, he peeks through the door one more time.

His heart slams against his ribs.

There’s a girl sitting at his desk. She’s holding a distinctly blue pen in her hand, one she’s digging carefully into the surface of the desk - right below his last message.

She lifts a hand to bat away the thick curtain of hair that’s fallen over her shoulder, and Zuko’s heart flings itself forward once more.

She is beautiful.

He takes in the rich, warm brown tones of her skin - flawless, not a mark or spot in sight. Her nose is pert and slender, her mouth is full and tilted upwards at the corners as she writes. And when she lifts her head, he learns that her eyes are the brightest shade of blue he has ever seen.

For a moment, Zuko is breathless. And then his feet carry him forward, and he stops before the desk, standing awkwardly for several seconds.

“It’s you,” He finally blurts, and promptly turns a violent shade of red.

The girl lifts her head, eyes widening in shock, and then - and then an obvious happiness sweeps across her face.

She stands quickly and asks excitedly, “Are you my poet?”

He can only stare for a moment. No one has ever claimed him as theirs, especially in such a forward way.

Zuko blinks himself back to life and nods. “Yeah, I guess so,” He answers, rubbing the back of his neck shyly.

“I’ve been wondering when I would get to meet you!” The excitement in her voice is contagious, and it begins to spread through him like sunlight. “My name is Katara.”

Katara. What a wonderful name.

Clearing his throat, Zuko offers his hand. “Zuko. I’ve - I’ve been thinking about you too.” And before he can really chicken out, he adds, “Um, can I take you to lunch? My Uncle owns a great little tea shop.”

Katara grins. “I would love that!” She crouches down and grabs her bag, then moves to stand beside Zuko. “I was planning on going to the Jasmine Dragon today, I know it’s really popular, but everything there is just so great.”

Zuko ducks his head, grinning at his feet. “Yeah, that’s my Uncle’s shop. I think I can get you in.”

Katara gasps, and Zuko leads her to the door, holding it open with a bigger grin. He glances back at the desk as she walks past him, feeling absurdly grateful for that rickety old piece of wood.

(the first quote is not mine, the rest are)

I’m going through the Dream arc of the manga, thinking about the upcoming Crystal season, and noticing things I didn’t before. I’ve always kind of glossed over Act 42: Jupiter Dream. I guess it’s just never really stuck out for me, not the way that Jupiter-centered chapters in earlier arcs do (one of my favorite parts of the entire Nemesis arc is Makoto’s chapter, so it’s a tough act to follow).

But reading over it again, I love this.

Makoto meets a member of the Dead Moon Circus who has just opened their own herb shop. Although suspicious at first, seeing this person pursuing a dream that she herself shares makes Makoto open up to a complete stranger. She wants so badly to connect to this classy older drag queen. She wants a mentor so badly that she’s willing to ignore a bunch of red flags (a circus member who sells herbs from the amazon?) because it’s so rare that she finds a kindred spirit.

She wants to believe that there’s someone like her. Someone who doesn’t quite fit in anywhere, who loves pretty things, who takes pleasure in food and tea, who wanted to own a shop and actually went for it. She sees someone like Hawkeye, ridiculously tall with weird bird hair, rocking a black lacy dress like it’s no big deal, unashamed of who they are and finding success in the life that Makoto wants.

Of all the senshi in this arc, Makoto is the only one who actually connects with the enemy on a human level. Fisheye sneaks into Ami’s home as an actual fish, Tigerseye mostly runs around as an actual tiger. But though Hawkeye’s trap has already been laid in the form of a cursed ring, Makoto actually returns to talk about the issue again.

How do you get to an orphan with aspirations? With a mentor.

And this is how the enemy gets her. Not by brute force, but by connecting with her on an emotional level. By showing her a future that she wishes she could have for herself.

may we please see the tea shop that pumpkin's family owns? thank you for sharing your art with us :)

As you can see, the place is a little small, with tables for just a few customers.
However, they built a window to attend monsters who that can’t get inside the shop, or that would like to have some takeaway tea. It’s also convenient for listening to any street performer that may be around.

I have this problem where I just want to have all the careers.

One of my favourite tropes is when Mr. Graves picks up on an interest of Credence and then provides him with all necessary equipment to satisfy his curiosity or needs.

Oh, Credence likes nature? Let’s buy him books about it, buy pots to grow his own plants, buy seeds of rare flowers or take him for a walk in nature and teach him about different trees (which Mr. Graves vigorously read about just the evening prior to properly teach his boy) Or one morning when it hits Mr. Graves - what do you mean Credence doesn’t like coffee? Then fussing over buying his own fine china tea set, taking him shopping to choose his own tea flavours and getting him intricately decorated golden boxes where he can store his tea.

Just making sure that Credence feels welcome and knows that his needs will be respected, that he knows there will always be a place for him in Mr. Graves’ house.

I've been really craving some pining fics. It doesn't matter who's the one pining or how much they're pining, I really need some good pining fics because I can't seem to find many. I thought I should come to you for the best. Got any you would like to recommend? :)

I actually had to clutch my heart reading this. I’m both very happy and proud that it’s us you decided to turn to! We have some brilliant fics in our [pining] tag, but I’ll go ahead and direct you to some that I also really love! (Or, they’re on my reading list!!)

An Exercise in Self-Restraint
Summary: Levi moves away from the only town he’s ever known, off to university and away from his two friends, Isabel and Farlan. Having roommates is a new experience, one that he thinks will be totally unpleasant, but when the last person to turn up is a gorgeous male omega, his perspective changes.
Unfortunately for him, it’s bad practice to fuck your flatmate. Levi has a tough year ahead.

Shut Up and Dance
Summary: Eren probably should have thought about the fact that he’s a terrible dancer before agreeing to dance with Mikasa at her wedding in place of their deceased father. Luckily, Levi is the king of the ballroom and Eren is the king of persistence. Unluckily, Eren can’t stop blushing long enough to actually learn how to not step on his dancing partner’s feet.

Grind
Summary: The one that’s not actually about grinding, but the rivalry between Eren ‘who owns a coffee shop’ Jaeger and Levi ‘who owns a tea shop’ Ackerman. They might fall in love along the way.

Anonymous asked
Summary: In a horribly inept attempt at flirting, Levi accidentally sends Eren anon hate. Well, in his defense, it’s not his fault Eren’s smile is so damn pretty.

3 A.M
Summary: The story is about Levi: A neurotic man who suffers from depression, is successful at writing but unsuccessful at everything else. Setting: Breakfast (never in the morning) at his favorite diner, a record store that hasn’t dusted its ceiling fan since the 1970’s, a hole in the wall cafe to drink black tea and judge the terrible tongue tied poets on the shoddy ill-lit stage, a park with swings that are always annoyingly wet, and his immaculate apartment in the city. Levi is riddled with quirky traditions and struggles with anxiety, still battling childhood memories he can never completely forget. Then enter Eren Jaeger, the too loud and too passionate guitar player that takes the stage one night that just won’t stop staring at Levi. Eren is full of hope and promise and everything Levi needs, but Levi can’t have what’s good for him. Right?

If you could re-write the ending of A:TLA, how would you approach canon Zutara? How would you resolve Aang's infatuation with Katara and the subsequent romance between Katara and Zuko?

Zuko and Katara’s relationship honestly does not need that much help to be canon. The build-up is all right there in the show, and it’s very well paced. And actually, when you think about it, the build-up for a Kαtααng break-up is also right there in the show. It would take such minor tweaking to make this whole thing work.

There is a prime opportunity for Kαtααng to start breaking up at the end of Season 2. When Aang realizes he is too attached to Katara and has to let her go, that can be the beginning of him realizing his attraction to her is too self-centered. For example, in “The Awakening,” he could apologize for abandoning Katara when she and Hakoda were having issues of their own. Then in “The Headband,” after Katara kisses him on the cheek, we get Aang’s happy reaction shot as always…but then a moment of doubt as she starts putting away the bundle of clothes that allowed her to pass herself off as his mother. In “The Avatar and the Firelord,” instead of Roku saying things like “I was persistent” and “being the Avatar doesn’t hurt your chances with the ladies,” he could emphasize how Ta Min and he didn’t get along at first, but became a perfect match due to the way they balanced each other. (Hey, here’s a thought: instead of Roku’s male earthbending teacher Sud, whose model is based on the original boy!Toph, why couldn’t we have his eartbending teacher be a lady, perhaps foreshadowing Taang? By combining Sud and Ta Min, it would also show the difference between a divided world with four separate nations and the more unified world of the past.)

“The Runaway” would then come at the perfect time for Aang to get a full dose of Katara being motherly toward him. Next comes “Nightmares and Daydreams” two episodes later. I have previously demonstrated how Katara provided emotional support for Aang in a whopping nine scenes in that one episode, and instead of a purely happy ending where Aang gets to sleep, we could show him sound asleep and Katara purely exhausted from all the work she’s been doing to help him.

During the “Day of Black Sun,” Katara didn’t get a lot of development compared to Aang and Zuko. So I would take advantage of her “healing Hakoda” subplot a little more. Emphasize that she has drained herself so much taking care of Aang that she is finding it difficult to help out when she is needed the most. Maybe she would have to fight and heal if they ran into some trouble, and she might think she is handling it, but then can’t slice open enough airships at the end to keep the adults out of prison. We would still get the Kαtααng kiss in Part 1 with Katara’s ambivalent reaction, which would lead nicely into…

“The Western Air Temple.” After the invasion fails, Aang reverts to his Season 1 self, and starts flying off again when Katara needs him. This wouldn’t need to be touched upon–it just emphasizes the running theme throughout Season 3. Everything else can pretty much stay the same until “The Southern Raiders.” Now this episode is one that I would have liked to see Elizabeth Ehasz’s original script for, before Bryke felt so threatened by the Zutara relationship that they tried to have her write Zutara as worse than it was originally conceived. (They pretty much failed anyway, but still, she should have just been given free reign on the project.) Maybe Katara could promise to help Zuko find his own mother after the war? That would be a sweet bookend, foreshadowing a furtherance to their relationship.

After “Southern Raiders” comes “Ember Island Players,” and I would have had the episode opening with Katara and Sokka spending some quality time together, maybe Katara taking Sokka shopping instead of Suki to make up for her “you didn’t love her the way I did” remark. She could ask Sokka some pointed questions about his relationship with Suki, which would not only give Sukka more development, but also lead Sokka to wonder if there is someone she is thinking about dating. It also leads to some worry on this part, because the kinds of questions she’s asking are all about what’s good for the person she might be interested in, rather than what works for her. Cue Aang’s tirade and the “unexpected” kiss, and Katara refusing to talk to him after.

Then we have the part in the finale where Aang storms off, again, never to be seen until after Ozai is defeated. I think this makes Aang look pretty bad, actually, added to the fact that he never even thinks that his friends might be worried about him. I would have him send Momo away, not right before the battle, but after he wakes up on the island, in order to deliver a letter to the GAang (he could snatch up the baby Ozai scroll in his rage and then have it with him on the island to further his moral dilemma, then ultimately send it back to the GAang). It wouldn’t reveal Aang’s location, so the GAang would still have to track him down, but it would explain that there is something he has to do before the Firelord is defeated. It would also tell Katara that he is sorry and has to respect her wishes–a parallel of Zuko’s breakup letter to Mai. Aang and Katara both realize that they can’t put each other’s wellbeing over the wellbeing of the world, or their own wellbeing, respectively, and being attached to each other that way is a mistake.

“Sozin’s Comet” is full of Zutara moments–Zuko putting a hand on Katara’s shoulder to calm her down after Aang runs off, Katara encouraging Zuko to join in the group hugs, Zuko choosing Katara to fight by his side, Katara encouraging him when he is worried about his uncle’s forgiveness, Zuko taking the lightning bolt for Katara, etc. etc. It really needs very little work in that direction. One thing I would change is the final dialogue between Zuko and Iroh, where Iroh instead promises to support Zuko and be at his side as Firelord–provided he gets his own tea shop! (And when Katara says, “Good luck, General Iroh!”, Iroh could reply with “Good luck, everyone,” then with a meaningful look at Katara, “and thank you,” showing that he knows she helped Zuko get up the courage to apologize to his uncle.)

I would have the ending Mαiko scene take a different path, with Zuko overjoyed to see Mai alive and thanking her for the sacrifice she made for him, and her replying, “Yeah. That’s just it, Zuko. I made the sacrifice for you, but not for myself. This whole time, I haven’t thought much about what I really want from life.” She looks around at the walls of the palace. “All I know is that I just escaped from prison, and going right back into the one that trapped me as a child is not going to happen.” Then she pauses. “When you knew Azula was going to take me down, you didn’t go back for me.” She holds up a hand as Zuko starts to apologize. “It’s not your fault–I saw the people with you. You were choosing your new life over your old one.” She looks at the scar on Zuko’s chest. “You still are. And now I have to do the same.” She kisses him good-bye and says she’ll see him again, and when he asks how, she’ll just give a secretive smile–and pull out a throwing star shaped like a White Lotus when no one is looking.

During Zuko’s coronation, I would have Katara smile at both of them, not just Aang. Instead of that teaser scene with Zuko sounding more like his Season 1 self during his Ozai questioning, I would have cut that scene and left more time for the end GAang reunion. We could see Aang and his new self-confidence being more capable of keeping up with Toph, and then a scene where Zuko awkwardly comes up to Katara, rubbing the back of his neck, and asking whether the offer to help find his mother is still open. She says yes, and just presses her lips to his for a tiny moment–not a sweeping romantic kiss, but a promise of things to come.  Then when they are all together, I would bring the GAang out in order of appearance–Sokka and Katara, then Aang (keeping the Aang and Katara hug), then Zuko, Suki, and Toph. And why a sunset, I wonder? Maybe it could be a sunrise instead–them watching a new dawn together.

Tea shop/bar AUs

I just realized something. I don’t like coffee, I don’t drink it often enough, that means I’ll never have my own coffee shop au, EVER.

Why can’t there be like a… tea bar au.

-Person A owns a tea bar and is sick of people waking in asking “do you have coffee?”, or “can you give me a double cappuccino?”. Enter person B who walks in asking for coffee only to have person A snapping and saying they don’t sell coffee, only to realize the person they just yelled at is very hot.

-A tea bar that lets customers draw on the windows, so person A always arrives, orders to go and draws a bit, but every time they come back someone finished their drawing and they never run onto the person until one day person A gets too into drawing and person B is just there waiting for them to finish.

-Person A loves to spend their afternoon in their favorite tea bar and at certain hour, a dog always walks in and sits by, person A pets them for a while before the dog leaves. It goes on for a couple of weeks and one day person A is sitting, petting the dog when person B enters running and out of breath, yelling “there you are, little devil!” Pointing to the dog who uses person A as a human shield.

-Person A owns a tea bar and sees person B walk in, big bags under their eyes, pale and looking sleep deprived. Person B stands in front of the counter and looks at person A dead in the eye and says “I want something that can wake up the dead”.

-Person A and B own a tea bar and they always have customers walking in and saying “give me something for the headache” or “I can’t sleep, wang can you give me?” Or “what do you recommend for muscular pain or cramps?”. And person A sighs “ma'am/sir, for the nth time, this is not a pharmacy”, to which person B yells from the kitchen “don’t listen to them, we have just the thing!”.

Feel free to add more!
