Random Self Care Tips

I was looking around on Tumblr for this stuff and didn’t find everything that I wanted, so I looked around on the internet and found some things.

1) Epsom Salt is actually really cool and useful for a lot of things. Two cups of Epsom Salt added to a bath eases stress and relaxes the body. Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline, so when Epsom Salt is dissolved in warm water, it’s absorbed by your skin and replenishes the amount of magnesium in your body.  The magnesium helps to produce serotonin, which elevates your mood and creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. You can also use Epsom Salt to:

Exfoliate dead skin: In the shower or bath, mix a handful of Epsom Salt with a tablespoon of bath/olive oil and rub all over your wet skin to exfoliate and soften, and then rinse thoroughly.

Exfoliate your face: Mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom Salt with whatever you usually wash your face with. Gently massage into your skin and rinse with cold water.

Relieve pain and cramping: Warm Epsom Salt baths not only benefit your mood, but also alleviate tension headaches or soothe abdominal cramps.

Foot soak: Put a cup of Epsom Salt into 2-3 gallons of water. This is supposed to relax your feet and soothe soreness.

Itchy/sunburned skin : Dissolve a tablespoon of Epsom Salt in to ½ cup of water and cool it down. Then spray it on itchy/burned skin or apply it as a wet compress to help relieve itching.

2) As time consuming and annoying as shaving can be, sometimes it can feel really good to just have really soft legs. I’m awful about remembering to shave, so I made this list of tips so when I actually do shave, I can make it count.

Use conditioner for shaving cream/gel: I’ve been doing this for over a year now and I love it because it softens and smooths your skin. I use hypoallergenic shampoo because I’m allergic to non-hypoallergenic stuff, so it doesn’t irritate my skin when I’m rubbing it on my legs. I personally really like the coconut conditioner by Organix (which is evidently popular) because it’s generally really cheap, it comes in a big bottle, and it’s really good quality stuff.

Shave downwards, then upwards: Okay, yeah, I get that this kind of sucks because it takes a long time and I honestly don’t feel like shaving with the grain doesn’t do much, but it’s a really good way to make sure you don’t get razor burn and it’s super good for sensitive skin. So, take the ten extra minutes and just shave your legs both ways, it might be worth it.

Don’t be afraid to try men’s shaving stuff: I started using a razor made for men on my legs like, last week, and I think it’s better than the razor I bought to actually shave my legs. Also, these razors are cheaper than the ones I was buying. They don’t come in pink like my old razors, but it’s still worth it because the shave is better, and I’m saving a few extra bucks. Who knows what other men’s products work better than women’s?

Rub down with Baby Oil first: This makes the hair AND your legs softer, making the shave easier and leaving your skin softer. I would suggest rinsing it off your legs before shaving, and then applying shaving cream/gel/conditioner/what have you. I’ve heard of shaving your legs with baby oil, but personally I did not like it because the shave didn’t feel as close as it does with conditioner and I had to rinse my razor a lot while doing it because it made the blades super oily.

Rubbing Alcohol or Witch Hazel: You can dab this on after shaving to kill bacteria and help pores close. It may burn a little bit if you have some little cuts but it goes away pretty quickly.

Use Unscented Deodorant: This is evidently good for after shaving your vag. I don’t know, man, but it might be worth a shot, so liberally apply to prevent razor burn or chafing. Make sure this is not scented deodorant. Please be careful, and make sure you aren’t like, putting this IN your vagina because that’s probably painful and not beneficial at all.

Apply Aloe Vera: So this firstly makes your legs smoother, and then it also helps cool down redness or razor burn.

Also, fun fact: Egyptians shaved their eyebrows to mourn their cats. For real.

Please note: You do not have to shave. Don’t let the media and other people influence what your ideal hair situation should be. Your body hair is nothing to be ashamed of. Figure out what is right for you.

3) Baths are amazing. They improve blood circulation, help release toxins, lower blood pressure, clean skin, reduce headaches, help cure colds, lower anxiety, and a bunch of other really cool awesome stuff that explain why we should be taking baths, like, at least every two weeks, even just for twenty minutes. As amazing as a plain bath is, here are some things you can add to a bath to help relax your muscles and relax your mind.

Green Tea Bath Recipe: Drop 5-10 green tea bags in the bath while it’s filling.

Benefits of a Green Tea Bath: The minerals in green tea are well known for their powerful anti-aging benefits, which will replenish & restore balance to your skin. Green tea also has natural antioxidants, which aid in detoxing your body from natural pollutants.

Honey Bath Recipe: Pour one cup of honey into your bath while it’s filling.

Benefits of a Honey Bath: Adding honey to your bath will moisturize, soften and sooth dry skin. The natural antioxidant properties in honey will help detox your body while you soak.

Olive Oil Bath Recipe: Add 3 tablespoons of olive oil to your bath while it fills.

Benefits of an Olive Oil Bath: When mixed with water, olive oil has the ability to soak deep into your tissues and rejuvenate them. Olive oil baths aid in building a stronger immunity to viral and bacterial infections. Olive oil will help maintain the collagen in your skin, keeping skin looking supple for longer. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Lemon Bath Recipe: Squeeze and drop 5-6 lemons into your running bath. If you don’t have lemons, ¾ cup of bottled lemon juice will work just as well.

Benefits of a Lemon Bath: Lemon baths are especially refreshing in hot weather. The healing agents in lemons will refresh and revive tired skin. Lemons will also cool the skin, and help tighten pores.

Ginger Bath Recipe: Add one tablespoon of fresh, chopped ginger to your running bath.

Benefits of a Ginger Bath: Bathing in a bath of ginger will ease sore muscles, eliminate toxins from the body. The natural anti bacterial properties in ginger will help sweat out colds, flues, and congestion.  Adding ginger to your bath on a cool day will raise the temperature of your skin and make you feel warm and toasty.

Baking Soda Bath Recipe: Add 4-5 tablespoons of baking soda to your  bath.

Benefits of a Baking Soda Bath: Baking soda acts as a gentle, soothing agent which will sooth & calm irritated skin.

4) Baking Soda is really awesome and doesn’t get used half as much as it should be. It’s generally always kept in the kitchen, which is pretty dumb, because it’s really beneficial for skin and hair, too. So, here you go, some uses for Baking Soda that aren’t for the kitchen:

Washing Hair: You can add volume to your hair just by mixing a quarter size of baking soda to your daily dollop of shampoo. The baking soda will help remove impurities, leaving your hair lighter and full of volume.

Teeth Whitener: It tastes pretty bad, but once a week/month/whatever works for you, try wetting your toothbrush, sticking it in baking soda, and brushing your teeth. Again, this tastes gross, but it cleans and whitens your teeth really well.

Face Scrub: Add a tablespoon of baking soda to your usual facial cleanser and form a paste. Massage into your skin in circular motions to help exfoliate and leave skin feeling soft.

Foot Wash: Mix two to three tablespoons of baking soda with water for a soothing foot soak. Soak for 20 minutes. Then, scrub your feet with a paste of baking soda and water to help exfoliate rough spots.

So, there you go! Some interesting information and some cool new things to try out. Do whatever works for you, and just make sure you’re taking care of yourself to stay healthy and happy. Xoxo

You opened your eyes, everything was dark, you couldn’t identify where you were. You then heard shuffling from the distance and you saw a tall man walk in, you could also see the shadow of the knife. Then you saw his face. Your eyes widened in fear as he stepped closer.“Please, Sam –this isn’t you!” You screamed as you inched towards the wall further. “Oh it’s me, (y/n).” He said and he swung the knife he was holding across your face, creating a deep slash on your cheek. “Stop!” You cried. “I will never stop!”  He shouted with a wicked grin, getting near you, holding the knife tightly then cutting you–

Jealous (Calum Imagine)

A/N: based loosely on the song Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy.  Requested by Anonymous.  Masterlist.

You flung yourself into his arms when you saw him.  His cheek was cold where you kissed it, and you wondered vaguely how long he had been waiting for you by the stage door.  "Babe, that was incredible,“ he mumbled into your ear, his arms still tight around you.

You pulled back and beamed at him.  It had been the best performance of your life.  You had poured your heart and soul onto the stage as you danced, nailing each move with precision and never missing a beat.  "Thank you,” you replied, and he kissed you.

“I mean, I knew you could dance, but… wow, that was amazing.  I could watch you dance forever.”

“And I could just stand here like this forever,” you replied.  "Although, it is a little cold out here,“ you added.

"It is,” he agreed, unwrapping his arms from around you and taking your hand, guiding you to the parking lot.

“Did the boys like it?” you asked, knowing that they were probably annoyed from waiting in the car.

“Yeah, they did.  Maybe more than they should’ve.”

You laughed.  "What do you mean?“

He shrugged.  "I’m just protective of my girl, is all.”

You nodded, smiling at him as he opened the passenger side door for you.

“Finally!” shouted a loud voice from behind you.  You turned to find three large guys crammed into the backseat.  "Don’t you two have any consideration for the rest of us? We’re freezing in here!“ Michael exclaimed.

"Great show, Y/N,” said Luke, in a quieter tone.

“Yeah, it was really quite good,” agreed Ashton.  "I just wish Calum wasn’t so mushy about it.  You should’ve heard him, Y/N.“  He put on a high pitched voice.  ”‘Oooh, my girlfriend is the hottest woman alive!’“

”'Oooh, she looks so good up there, I’m so proud!’“ Luke joined in.

”'Oooh, I have a boner just watching her!’“ Michael teased, and the backseat burst into laughter.

"Fuck off,” Calum said from behind the steering wheel.

You took his hand again as he pulled out of the parking lot.  "Come on, they’re just that they don’t have hot dancing girlfriends,“ you said, shooting a glare to the boys in the backseat.

"You’re right,” he replied, gripping your hand tighter.  "What a bunch of losers.“

A few weeks later at rehearsals, your instructor had an exciting announcement for your class.  "I’m very pleased to inform you that four of our very own have been hand-selected by a very prestigious band to star in their music video!”

You gasped and looked around the room, your shocked expression mirrored in the faces of all those around you.  Your instructor clapped a few times to silence the room, before continuing. “Now, the ladies who have been chosen for these roles are…. Sheila, Isabel, Katarina, and Y/N!”

You sat in shock as your classmates congratulated you and patted you on the back.  You couldn’t believe it.  Working for a huge band like this was really such an honor.  But… it was suspicious.  "Madam,“ you said, raising your hand slightly to get your instructor’s attention.  "Madam, which band?”

The other dancers quieted down so they could hear her answer.  "All Time Low,“ she replied, beaming at you.

But you were unsmiling, and unfocused for the rest of rehearsal.  You barely even thought about it when a rehearsal schedule for the music video was pressed into your hands at then end of rehearsal.  You clenched your fist around the packet of papers, too preoccupied in your own thoughts to even glance at it.

You slammed the front door shut behind you.  "Calum,” you yelled.

“Up here,” came his voice faintly, and you trudged up the stairs.  He sat on your bed, shirtless but wearing sweatpants, holding a guitar in his hands and looking down at an ink-filled notebook.  He looked up when you entered the room.  "Hey babe, how was rehearsal?“ he asked.

"It was…. unusual.”

“Unusual how?” he asked, looking back down at the notebook.

“I uh… I got some good news today.”

“Oh yeah?” he asked, his focus still on the words on the page.

“Calum, look at me,” you said softly, and he finally glanced up.  "I got offered a job on an All Time Low video shoot.“ you said flatly.

His eyebrows shot up in surprise.  "Whoa, what?”

“Yeah.  Did you have anything to do with it?”

“What? No! I mean, at writing the other night I was telling Alex about your performance, but I never imagined he’d… wow, Y/N! I swear I didn’t tell him to hire you.”

You breathed a sigh of relief.  "Alright.  Now I won’t feel horribly guilty about taking the job.“

"That’s really an incredible opportunity, Y/N.  And you’ll love Alex, he’s the best,” Calum said with a smile on his face.

And it turned out that you did love Alex.  The video shoot was exciting.  The four girls selected each got paired up with one of the All Time Low boys, and you ended up with Alex.  He made jokes all through learning the choreography, joking that you pushed him when he fell, continually saying he had a broken ankle, saying that you made him look better than he actually was.

Getting on set was a whole new atmosphere, so full of energy and anticipation.  Your costume was a Victorian-era ballgown, complete with a corset, and you felt amazing in it..  You found that partner work was your favorite kind of dance, because you could feed off of the other person’s emotion to get a dance just right.  And Alex made it so easy.  He was always so full of compliments, and always knew just what to say to make you laugh.  It wasn’t difficult to see why Calum adored the guy.

As the video wrapped, you felt almost sad that it was over.  But it had been an exhausting process, and you couldn’t wait to get home and cuddle with your favorite boy.  You removed your costume for the last time and said goodbye to the other girls, all of the crew, and finally, the band.  They all thanked you for your work, and Alex kissed your hand.  You laughed and headed home.

Once again, you found Calum sitting on your bed with a guitar in his hands, staring at a notebook.  But this time when you greeted him, he didn’t look up at you.  He didn’t say anything.

“Is everything alright?” you asked.

“It couldn’t get much worse, actually.”

“What’s happened?” you moved to sit down next to him.

“Can you just be honest with me for a second?” he asked.

You reached for his hand, but he pulled it away.  "Calum, what’s going on?“

"Are you cheating on me?” he asked, looking you directly in the eye.

You felt like you had been slapped.  "Of course not! Why would you even ask that?“

He looked away again.  "I knew you two had been getting close on the shoot, but I never thought… I’m getting tons of messages on Twitter about rumours.  Lots and lots of rumours, Y/N.  And you know what all those rumours say?”  He didn’t wait for you to speak.  "They say that Alex has been seen creeping off to a dressing room with his dancing partner on the shoot.  For long periods of time.“

"Calum, are you joking right now?”

“And then this picture emerged,” he continued as if you hadn’t spoken, and held out his phone.  On the screen was a blurry photo of Alex kissing your hand, just hours ago.

“This is ridiculous.”

“Is it?”

“Yes! Because I didn’t cheat on you!  He was struggling with the choreography, so I helped him out with it when we had down time! And that hand kiss is just one of the gestures in the dance, he was just being funny.”

“Oh, is that what they call it these days? 'Struggling with the choreography’?” he asked nastily, finally looking at you.  But his eyes were cold.

“Oh my God, I’m telling the truth! Why don’t you believe me?!” you asked, exasperated.

“Why should I?” he countered.

“I don’t know, maybe because you love me?” you yelled.

He looked back down and didn’t say anything else.  Tears began to well up in your eyes.  "Fine.  Call Alex, call any of them.  I’m telling the truth.  And I’m done trying to convince someone who doesn’t trust me.“

You walked from the room hastily, knowing that he wouldn’t follow.  Collapsing on the sofa, you finally let the tears fall.  You curled up into a ball, letting all of your emotions turn you into a disheveled mess.  It almost didn’t feel real.  The boy you loved, having no trust in you.  How he believed online rumours instead of you.   How he didn’t care to listen to your side of things.  You wished you could wake up from this nightmare.  You wished you had never taken the video shoot job.  You hated that you still loved him.  You hated that you cared about him so much that he could hurt you so badly.

You heard his feet on the stairs.  You quickly sat up and wiped your tears away, not wanting him to see how much he could affect you.  He stopped at the edge of the sofa and stood there silently for a few moments.  "I’m an idiot,” he finally said.  When you didn’t respond, he continued, “I didn’t call anybody… I didn’t have to.  I believe you.  I trust you.  I’m an idiot for not believing you earlier.  I just… I just get so jealous because I never want to lose you.  Because I love you.”

Letting out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding, you motioned for him to sit next to you.  He did, and wrapped his arms around you.  "We really need to work on that jealousy thing, Hood,“ you said, snuggling into his warm torso.

"I know, I’m the worst.  And you’re the best.  I just can’t stand the thought of you with anybody else.”  He was silent for a few moments.  "Maybe we should just get married.

You laughed.  "Calum Hood, is that a proposal?“

Now it was his turn to laugh.  "Is that a yes?”

You smiled.  "Sure, if you get a ring and get down on one knee.“

"That can be arranged,” he said, taking your left hand in both of his.  His fingers rubbed gently against your fourth finger.  "Did I mention how much I love you?“

"Did I mention how much I love you too?”

Creepypasta #712: She Was Always The Most Normal

Story length: Super long

I have a friend named Jen. She isn’t remarkably pretty, kind of short, and just on the side of obese. She has torn ligaments in both knees, and, as a result, walks slowly. She’s an enormous nerd, would rather spend her evenings playing video games or table top card games than going out on the town. She’s slow to anger, quick to smile, and all around, people like her. As my name is James, and we’re pretty close, she and I are often referred to by our friends as “J Squared.” I always say that you’re not really best friends unless everyone thinks your dating, and we’ve certainly got that part of our friendship covered.

I met Jen in my first year of college, in the student lounge. Her voice carries, high and a bit obnoxious on first listen, then comforting when you get to know her. You can almost always tell if Jen is in a place simply because you’ll here her first.

I should take the time now to mention her eyes; they’re a shifting hazel, sometimes blue, sometimes green, sometimes grey, depending both on her mood and what she is wearing. Darking colors will bring out the blue and the green, depending on the shade; lighter colors will bring out the gray. The only constant is the faint ring of gold around the iris.

It was late one Tuesday evening, some alcohol had been consumed, and there was about five of us, including Jen and myself, gathered casually to play games and talk shit, when the suggestion was made we all take a trip to that old abandoned house.

I won’t waste time on describing the house, other than to say it had two stories; every town has a house like it, one that had been abandoned for quite some time, there were rumors of death and ghosts and other such nonsense all around it, and it was something of a ritual for young adults and teens to break in and test their metal.

Everyone else, including myself, seemed to think this was a great idea, except Jen. She was the most verbal proponent, arguing that someone had died in that house just six months ago; it was true, it had been all over the news. Some kid had gone in alone as a test of bravery, and was supposed to be in there only an hour; when he didn’t emerge in the time allotted, the authorities had been called, and they found him dead, spine snapped like a twig.

The official ruling had been that he’d fallen down the stairs somehow, but there were rumblings there was no evidence of that being the case; that he had been found far away from the stairs he could have fallen on.

But, as the majority overruled her, she had grudgingly come along, the whole ride trying to convince us all to go somewhere else; the cemetary, the old historic cemetary one town over, anywhere except that house.

But we didn’t listen to here, and soon enough, we all found ourselves at the house, flashlights and phones in hands as we crept along through the bottom of the house.

“Do NOT seperate,” Jen warned, and there was enough command in her voice, and we accepted her as leader enough to stick close, no more than a foot between any of us as we moved from room to room.

For ten minutes, nothing happened other than us giggling between each other, and Jen, at my side, seemed to relax a little.

Then the skittering started.

Media and Concepts. Week 10. Notes.

I drew this in class today. 2 lessons:

1. PROCESS: Improvisation and switching panel order. We drew on 3x5 cards for 20 minutes. The exercise was to draw 3 moments of a simple subject.

We wrote simple visual ideas on the board: pulling a gun, raking leaves, kissing, hitting, opening a door, etc.

Everybody drew for 20 minutes. The idea was to just enjoy drawing, do some crosshatching, etc. Relax and enjoy drawing a simple, clear narrative with three steps.

I drew panels 1, 6 and 7 first. But at the time I drew them they were panels 1, 2, and 3. This leads to the secret trick of this exercise—

2: How timing and panel order can create mood and story possibilities.

The assignment was to draw 3 panels, and then step back and using 3x5 cards, (Hi Frank) add panels somewhere else, before, after, or in between. As I started panel 8, I had to let my mind wander, as I filled in the sky and the houses (this took several minutes), but just gently wander, not panic. I would trust my subconscious to come up with something…

Then I drew panel 8. Then while I was filling in the sky and the houses, I started thinking about what to do in the next 3 panels. I thought about making it a story that went

1. Raking

2. Dinner

3. Night

4. ? Maybe in the morning more leaves have piled up again? Maybe the dude talks to someone? But then that seemed dumb and seemed like I’d have to draw the big yard and all the grass again…plus in my mind it seemed like, picturing all those panels of leaves, like the point of the thinking wouldn’t actually come through.

So I decided, because someone in the class was sniffling a lot, to have the character sniff a couple times. Totally a part of raking leaves, autumn. Sound effects suddenly started to have meaning. It’s good to use all the powerful symbols of comics—sound effects, image+text, collage—to create allusive story possibilities and sensory details.

Then I realized that sniffing was kind of sad seeming. Like, maybe you think the character is going to cry. But that’s not it; it’s just cold out, (added the note in panel 6 that says “cold air.” Added puff of air even later. Looking at it now, I think I’ll take the puff out again when I ink it, since it doesn’t really work as a two-moment panel.)

If you know what it’s like to rake leaves you know that you end up with a runny nose, and you sniff, no big deal!

Then I drew panel 3. Then panel 4 just naturally followed as something that might be funny and gross and real-life. Then suddenly the comics tone was different. It was a moment of spitting snot.

Note: Obviously I realize that the fact that the dude is eating alone in panel 7 is significant. He’s eating alone…no wife? No girlfriend? OK…But that makes us uncomfortable? Is it a sad story or not? Is a suburban house, with a yard that must be raked, belonging to a single dude a sad thing or not? Maybe? It’s ambiguous. So much depends on what you bring to the page as a reader, your assumptions…It’s uncomfortable seeing someone spend so much time alone in a comic…Maybe other characters should be introduced? A lot to think about, ha ha.

All this was timed, and happened in 1 hour and 20 minutes. I felt pretty good afterward, because I had sat still, concentrated and drawn a page of comics without letting myself get distracted. I was happy with panels 2, 3, and 4, the movement and weirdness of their simplicity and juxtaposition to tell a story.

The assignment was to take these panels each student drew and turn them into a well-inked, professional looking, solid comics page. I suggested they scan them into photoshop, arrange and nudge the panel elements so they create a good page design, enlarge them (30-60%) and then print them out and lightbox the art onto another page, which they will ink.
