Shinhwa and the Ouran High School Host Club (Part 2 of 7)

Ouran High School Host Club (OHSHC) started out as a manga (2002-2010) by Hatori Bisco which was later adapted into animation (2006) and a live-action series (2011) in Japan. It tells the story of a smart, no-nonsense, middle-class girl who enters a high school for super rich kids, gets mistaken as a boy, and starts to work at that high school’s “Host Club.” The series was known for subverting various cliches and tropes in typical “harem” animes.

The similarity between the two groups is this: The OHSHC existed in order to cater to the Ouran High School girls’ romantic cravings just like Shinhwa exists to satisfy their fans’ imaginings, aside from making music, of course. So, if Shinhwa members were members of the OHSHC, who would they be and why?

2) Minwoo = Tamaki

Tamaki just loves giving flowery speeches to his adoring clients–with a matching appearance of roses wherever he goes. His real life counterpart is Minwoo, the expert on delivering cheesy lines to please the fans. Both of them are the certified kings of fan service.

Aside from this, both are leaders of their respective groups. In the anime, Tamaki is the “king” of the Host Club. In real life, Minwoo is the co-CEO of the Shinhwa Company and its “front” leader.  However, Minwoo is also known by the nickname “Special Stupid” due to stuff he did on the group’s old variety show Shinhwa Broadcast. This is so much like how Tamaki is called an airhead by the club members due to the silly things he does.

This doesn’t mean that they’re really stupid, though. Tamaki is the top student of his second-year class in the anime. To parallel it with Minwoo, this guy is responsible for producing Shinhwa’s and other singers’ music: from composing and arranging songs to choreographing dances. He is very musically talented. In fact, he was the first member of Shinhwa to release his own solo album under the name “M.” His activities alternate from doing solo works to singing with his group. He also served as a coach in Dancing 9, a televised dancing competition and more recently in Boys24, a televised search for the next K-pop star group.

The big difference between these Tamaki and Minwoo would be their heights. Tamaki is the second tallest person in the OHSHC while Minwoo is the shortest person in Shinhwa. However, M makes up for this shortcoming (pun intended) with his incredible sense of fashion.

There should be like a moment of silence for the fact that...

Ouran High School Host Club - one of the most popular and loved anime of all time - has never had a sequel - while Sword Art Online - one of the most divisive and disliked anime has had at least two fucking seasons, a movie, and is getting an American live-action series.

There is no justice.

My favorite OHSHC Cosplays. I tried to stay away from the really well known ones and the actual live action cast members. Sadly Tamaki and Takashi didn’t have as many uber good ones like the others. Honey’s was the easiest, then the twins ( i liked how the hair looked more natural), Kyoya, Haruhi, Tamaki, then Takashi. so yeah…. :D If you wanna see more like dis one just message me an anime/manga and i’ll make a thing for the main characters, or characters you wanna see :D

Shinhwa and the Ouran High School Host Club (Part 4 of 7)

Shinhwa is South Korea’s longest running boy band. It has been in the K-pop scene for 19 years already. It is celebrating its anniversary this coming March 24, 2017. Some of their known dance hits are “Touch,” “Sniper,” “This Love,” and “Venus.” They also sing R&B songs and ballads.

Ouran High School Host Club is a Japanese manga (2002-2010), turned anime (2006), turned live-action series (2011) by Hatori Bisco. It humorously subverts various cliches and tropes in “harem” manga and anime.

The similarity between the two groups is this: The OHSHC existed in order to cater to the Ouran High School girls’ romantic cravings just like Shinhwa exists to satisfy their fans’ imaginings, aside from making music, of course. 4) Andy = Hani (Hunny or Honey in some translations)

Cuteness overload!

Andy Lee, being the youngest or ”maknae” in Shinhwa, and Haninozuka Mitsukuni or simply Hani, being the smallest and most child-like in spite of being the oldest member of the club, are responsible for the cute factor in both groups. But don’t let their “aegyo” fool you. Both can be wise and ruthless at times. Hani-sempai, in spite of looking like an elementary student, has offered wise advice to the rest of the members when they needed it in the manga. On the other hand, Shinhwa members have described Andy as being the most mature out of all of them in spite of being the youngest.

Both have a dangerous side to them, too. Hani’s monster mode is awakened whenever something precious to him is threatened or when his sleep is disturbed. Andy has a “Zomdy” mode (Zombie + Andy) that is awakened when he gets too competitive in the games he’s playing in variety shows. He also uses the Zomdy mode on his “hyungs” (the older Shinhwa members) whenever they become too rowdy during dance practices.

Ouch, that scary glare… it burnsssss.

As the eldest son of the Haninozuka family, Hani will be in charge of his clan’s businesses once his father passes control over to him. In real life, Andy is already in charge of a hot business: producing young K-pop boy groups as the founder of TOP Media. According to Wikipedia, “In 2009, the company debuted Jumper, a male pop duo, which released two singles, “Yes!” and “Dazzling” (Korean: 눈이부셔). Jumper, however, disbanded soon after the release of their second single. A year later, Teen Top debuted, followed by 100% in 2012 and UP10TION in 2015. That scary glare must also be super effective when he’s disciplining his 22 “sons”.

Because the caption of this next photo from Eggshua is so hilarious, I will cut and paste it below.

Family photo where all the younger brothers are happy because they’re still innocent but the older brothers have seen some shit. Featuring Papa Andy in the middle. Does anyone else think this looks like one of those historical dramas where the dad is gonna die but he has 22 sons who want a big portion of his inheritance and they’re gonna kill each other if they have to?

Shinhwa and the Ouran High School Host Club (Part 1 of 7)

After getting some sleep, I realized that the original post was too lengthy so I broke it up into several pieces.

Shinhwa is South Korea’s longest running boy band. While typical boy bands last for around 5 years only, Shinhwa has been in the K-pop scene for 19 years already without any changes in its original line-up. The six guys you see now are still the six guys who debuted back in 1998.

Ouran High School Host Club (OHSHC) started out as a manga (2002-2010) by Hatori Bisco which was later adapted into animation (2006) and a live-action series (2011) in Japan. It tells the story of a smart, no-nonsense, middle-class girl who enters a high school for super rich kids, gets mistaken as a boy, and starts to work at that high school’s “Host Club,” after she incurs a large debt to them for breaking an expensive vase. The series was known for subverting various cliches and tropes in typical “harem” animes.

The idea for comparing the two groups stemmed from the following similarity: The OHSHC, a very tame version of actual host clubs, existed in order to give the idle rich Ouran High School girls something to do with their free time. The club catered to these girls’ romantic fantasies. In real life, this is very much why Shinhwa continues to exist up to this day. Aside of course from making trendy music, Shinhwa’s staying power lies in their ability to feed and satisfy their fans’ imaginations with images of brotherly love. Because of these activities, the imaginary Ouran and the real Shinhwa are able to make lots of money.

Thus, the following question popped into my mind: if Shinhwa members were members of the Ouran High School Host Club (OHSHC), who would they be and why? This was hard to think of because no one in Shinhwa is exactly like any of the characters in Ouran.

Here’s what I was able to come up with:

1) Dongwan = Haruhi

Haruhi is known for being honest to the point of bluntness. Dongwan is like that, too. He once told fans (known as Shinhwa Changjo or SHCJ) that Shinhwa was not responsible for their lives. It was a shocking when he said that because he was basically scolding the Changjos for “wasting” their lives following Shinhwa. He lost a number of followers due to this but like Haruhi, he just didn’t care ‘coz it was the truth, anyway.

This turned out to be a good thing in the long run because it managed to weed out the very crazy fans from the more-reasonable-but-still-a-bit-crazy ones. Other interviews show him answering questions so honestly (i.e. What is the secret of Shinhwa’s longevity? “The contract,” he said.) that other members look at him weirdly just like how the other members of Ouran look at Haruhi weirdly for her “commoner” ways.

Like Haruhi, Dongwan seems to have a thirst to prove himself. He often pushes himself to the limits, exploring different entertainment avenues aside from “boy band-ing” such as acting in dramas and musicals. The character studies he does to prepare for his roles have enabled him to broaden his mind. He strikes me as the kind of person who continually by tries understand the inner workings of the people around him, just like Haruhi.

The thing that sets Haruhi apart from Dongwan, though, is that he is also known for being “Ero-wan.” Think of how Naruto calls Jiraiya “Ero-sennin” due to the latter’s womanizing ways. Now I don’t want to think too deeply on how Dongwan got this nickname but Haruhi is certainly no pervert. LOL.
