“Weren’t you about to–?” Peggy cocks an eyebrow, and Steve can’t take his eyes off her.
“Yeah,” he nods. “First things first, though.”
And right there in the hall, he sweeps her into his arms and kisses her, committing this all to memory. The sight of her eyes widening, eyelashes fluttering closed as his mouth reaches hers. The feel of their noses bumping before he adjusts his angle a little. The taste of her lipstick, waxy and tart. Her curves pressed against his chest. He swipes his tongue over her bottom lip, briefly, experimentally. Around the sounds of gunfire, he hears her make this delightful, incredible little gasp. When he hears it, he shivers and tightens his arms around her.
It lasts for less than twenty seconds. There is a world to save, after all.
So, more than a little reluctantly, he breaks the kiss, and gives her a smile.
“I’m collecting on that dance later,” he says, before racing off, sprinting to make up for the lost time.
He knows the Colonel will kill him, but for that kiss? Worth it.
