haikyuu!! fic rec

i’ve been consuming unreasonable amounts of hq!! fic these past few months… here’s a rec list of ~70 fics for 16 ships.

Bokuto/Akaashi (otp: my head, his heart)

the better boyfriend battle by norio (M)  ❤

Summary:  It’s two days after their first date anniversary, so Bokuto ruins Akaashi’s life.

i put my hand out, unfolded, into the sunlight by carafin (G)  ❤

Summary:  In which Bokuto Kotarou is woefully inept at conveying his feelings, and Akaashi Keiji has a sort-of superpower. Sort of.

Karma by dgalerab (T)

Summary: Akaashi pulls a muscle and Bokuto offers to help him with yoga. Akaashi knows a bad idea when he sees it, and he really only agrees because he’s suddenly acquired a deeply rooted desire to see Bokuto do yoga. For multiple reasons.

Maybe We’re Airborne, Baby by sterlinglee (T)

Summary: Realizing he’s got it bad for his setter is the easy part. Getting his feelings across might be the hardest thing Bokuto’s ever done, not counting his literature final or putting out the flames on that birthday cake he tried to bake for Akaashi last year, or—or a lot of things, actually. But the point still stands. Reaching out to Akaashi is a leap in the dark, and he wants it more than he’s ever wanted anything (especially the smoking remains of a cake he baked before he really understood his feelings, but knew that it’s what you attempt with your own two hands that matters).

snowflakes by arsenicjay (T)

Summary: Bokuto is a simple wizard with simple needs; a nice date, a little romance, and he’s all good to go.Or, Akaashi and Bokuto spend a day in Hogsmeade just before Christmas.

stating the obvious by ThinkingCAPSLOCK (G)

Summary:  There’s a lot of things Bokuto isn’t sure about now that he’s in university. His program, his new team, his future. There’s only one thing he’s absolutely sure of. He is not dating Akaashi Keiji. Not even a little bit.

Year-Round Love by masi (G)

Summary:  In his first year of university, Bokuto realizes that he really adores Akaashi.

Rest of the rec list under the cut!

whoops, my hand slipped and here is a much more fic-like set of bullet points that i don’t have to heart to actually turn into a fic. part of a trilogy it seems.

one | two | three (THIS ONE!) | four | five | six | seven | eight | nine

  • something to know about michelle: she’s very good at keeping secrets
  • once, when she was eight years old, her older brother broke the brand new watch his parents had gotten him for christmas. he begged her not to tell anyone, most especially their parents or her four year old sister who would undoubtedly tattle to their parents. she never spoke a word of it to anyone and helped him fix it as best they could so that her parents never found out.
  • then, when she was eleven, she had the biggest crush on this one girl in her class, layla. and one day, one of her best friends alex told her that he had a crush on layla. so she never spoke a word of her crush, nor of alex’s, to anyone. that is, until one day alex and layla walked around the playground at lunch time holding hands and told everyone they were now dating.
  • and then after she moved to new york, spent the year trying to find a place for herself, and then finally found and joined academic decathlon, she met peter parker and liz allan. and she knew immediately that peter parker liked liz. he always stared at her during practice and smiled at her whenever she glanced at him. she heard him talking about her at lunch. everyone knew that peter had a crush on liz. but one day after practice, she was in the bathroom stall when liz and her friend betty walked into the restoom, chatting.
  • “oh my goodness I can’t believe you have a crush on that freshman.” betty scoffed. “really liz, like half the junior class is in love with you and you’ve got heart eyes for the scrawny kid from, what is it, queens?”
  • “he’s really sweet!” liz laughed. “I think he’s really cute. he’s always nice to me. can’t I like someone who also likes me? is that really a crime?”
  • “of course not.” betty sighed. “I’m just saying. he’s a freshman, you’re a junior. in two years, you’ll be going to college and he will still be here. do you really want that?”
  • “I don’t know.” liz replied, pausing for a while before michelle heard the sink start to run water. “peter is really sweet and smart. i’d like to see what could happen.”
  • “fine, fine.” betty laughs. “but don’t wait for that boy to ask you out because he seems shocked every time you even look his way.” they both laugh and with that, walk out of the bathroom.
  • michelle never spoke of that incident to anyone either. so, she’s good at keeping quiet when she needs to be. which is why she never tells peter that she knows. knows that he spends his time stopping bank robberies, muggings, and helping old ladies cross the street. knows that he saved her friends in washington dc. knows that he’s the reason liz’s dad went to prison and she had to move to oregon. she doesn’t tell anyone this. not even peter.

i still have doubts about whether will is actually in love with hannibal ;(

Well nonny you have come to the right place. Because I have no such doubts. I am overwhelmed on a daily basis by just how much Will Graham loves Hannibal Lecter. It’s late and I’m exhausted and I really should be doing this during daylight hours, so please excuse the rambling and caps lock and incoherence. Also, I’m putting most of this below a cut because I have no chill and it’s way too long and gif-heavy for me to inflict upon unsuspecting dashes.

Anyway, come with me nonny on a magical journey back to mid-season 2. Will is all fresh outta prison with his sassy brows and slick new haircut and he is just dead set on Reckoning. He is going to catch that mother fucker and it is going to be GLORIOUS.

There’s only one problem

Will can’t actually bring himself to hate Hannibal.

Tiptoe (Chicago P.D.)

Title: Tiptoe

Fandom: Chicago P.D.

Rating: T/PG-13

Author’s Note: I’ll refrain from writing a diatribe about how angry I am a scene with Jay talking about his PTSD was cut, and instead offer up this (quick) drabble-ish fic I wrote up that attempts to fill in the obvious gap in the break room scene between Erin and Jay at the end of 4x18. I couldn’t find specifics on where PTSD support groups meet in Chicago so I used the locations of Veteran Service Officers from the Illinois Warrior Assistance Program’s website as a proxy.

“Thank God for the job, though, right? I mean, every day you get to meet somebody who’s problems are bigger than yours.”

“Yeah, I guess so,” he replies with a nod of his head because she’s right. The job keeps him grounded; the job keeps him focused and tethered to the here and now.

Yet the words still feel heavy and wrong as she explains how she’s gone above and beyond to help today’s somebody, as she provides herself with an out to leave him in the breakroom. And his gaze immediately shifts to the floor; his head tilting downward so he doesn’t have to look at the small smile she offers him as she moves to tiptoe past him.

“Erin,” he softly calls out, and he can hear her boots scuff on the linoleum floor as she skids to a stop long before he’s fully turned around to face her. “I—”

“I, uh,” he says pausing to swallow the lump in his throat. Her back is still turned to him; her body nearly halfway out the door. And — despite all their conversations in here, despite the fact that he followed her in her and initiated this — the break room isn’t exactly where he imagined himself telling her about this. Telling her about something he’s spent most of the last eight years trying to tiptoe around.

Yet he spent Monday night’s meeting listening to an artillery field officer named Jon talk about how he tiptoed around things until he tried something stupid and this afternoon listening to Voight tell him to he’ll be out of the unit if he doesn’t stop tiptoeing around what’s going on. So he squares his shoulders, lifts his head, and forces himself to find the words to tell her that, in fact, some days somebody else’s problems don’t seem all that bigger than his.

So I’ve hit 400 followers! For those of you new here, every time I hit a multiple of 100, I add to this soulmate series. This time, it’s Kagehina’s turn, and I’ve been very excited to write my otp!

Hinata Shouyou hid his soulmate mark.

It wasn’t the nicest thing he could do, he guessed. It probably made actually finding his soulmate harder, considering he was in his first year of university and hadn’t seen a trace of them, but it was the best choice for him now.

He had the night sky on his wrist. If you looked close enough, you could see swashes of darker purples and blues, constellations packed into a small space only a couple centimeters across. Shouyou thought it was beautiful.

Other people didn’t think the same.

So, Prison Break will be back in a matter of hours.

And to a lot of you, that may mean nothing.

But it means a hell of a lot to me.

Prison Break first aired when I was fourteen. I don’t remember much about the night itself, but what I do remember is kicking up a real fuss when my brothers outvoted me on the choice of programming, the two of them commandeering the TV remote and forcing me to watch the pilot of this new prison show instead of the episode of House that I had apparently very much wanted to watch at the time. After that night, though, House certainly never took precedence in my schedule ever again, because I had fallen hard for Prison Break in a way that I never had with a show before (or since), my soul already eagerly sold to it before the credits were even rolling on the first episode.

For the next four years of my life, it was my obsession, my joy, my greatest love, the one thing I could talk endlessly about (particularly any part related to MiSa, my OTP of all OTPs), and the mere thought of which would always make me happy. It led me to my first fan forum, to amazing friends (who I am still in touch with to this day), and also brought me into the world of fanfiction, which in itself became (and remains) a hugely important part of my life.

As it went on, the show not only taught me life lessons like sacrifice and making difficult decisions and taking responsibility for your actions; it also taught me about myself, and what I wanted and valued and believed. And, as with any show that truly pulls you in, the characters were always far more than just actors spouting lines– they were like family to me, and I celebrated and struggled and grieved with them through four incredible and traumatising seasons. I genuinely cried more tears for them and their pain than I ever did over anything else in my own (obviously very fortunate and privileged) life.

The same year that Prison Break ended, I graduated high school and was accepted into medical school, a career that I had chosen for several very good reasons, not the least of which was because my still-forming teenage self had looked at Dr Sara Tancredi and had seen exactly the kind of woman I wanted to grow up to be. About five years after that, I was freshly graduated as a doctor, and finally got the chance to meet Went, Dom, and Sarah at my first Comic Con, and was able to thank them in person for the beautiful thing that they had helped create, and which– in Sarah’s case in particular, of course– had helped to create me.

Today, I’m exactly a month shy of my twenty-sixth birthday, and have been a doctor for almost two and a half years, having even worked briefly in the prison system during that time, among many other things. I may not have the posters hanging on my wall anymore, and the cardboard box full of memorabilia and carefully folded cranes might be tucked away in a closet out of sight, but even still, this show has never left me. It’s in the “Be the change you want to see in the world” ring that I’ve worn every day for the last nine years. It’s in the tiny origami flower that has been tattooed on the back of my left ear since I was nineteen. It’s in the crane that was tattooed on my left wrist two years ago in Chicago, with those same old forum friends beside me, all coming together for the first time in our ten-year friendship to visit the city and the prison that had been the setting for the story that had brought us into each other’s lives. But even more than the marks on my skin, its mark is still inside me, a permanent building block in the foundation of who I am.

In the last eight years, there’s only one thing about this show that I’ve always regretted, one thing that I have literally wished (on shooting stars, four-leaf clovers, birthday cakes, 11:11, dandelions– you name it, I’ve wished on it) that I could change. Of course, I know that happy endings don’t always exist; that reality is hard and cruel and whatever, so supposedly TV should be too. But that never stopped me from wishing that there could have been just one more happy ending out there to give to this story.

Then, about two years ago, something happened. Stars– both astronomical and celebrity– aligned. Whispers like ‘reboot’ and ‘season 5′ floated around, and then suddenly, startlingly, my dream had started looking like a possibility. A possibility that eventually turned into a miraculous definite, the confirmation followed by months of filming and promoting that I promptly did my very best to ignore or hide from, because I was convinced that if I thought about it too much– let myself hope too much– it would somehow all disappear again; would revert to being merely an elaborate fantasy that I’d concocted in my head, a silly fangirl’s headcanon to rectify her OTP’s heartbreak as well as her own.

But tonight, it’s all becoming real. Tonight, for the first time in eight years, I will turn on my TV and see my character-family again; will experience that old feeling afresh. And though there’s certainly always the chance that the new season will somehow be a disappointment, or will only add more pain, it’s a chance I’m so very willing to take.

A chance that I’m so, so grateful even exists.

So, if you can, tune in tonight (9/8c on Fox). Even if you’ve never watched before, even if you think that frankly I’m probably just overhyping it and it’s actually nowhere near as great as I claim. Do it anyway, and show the network and showrunners that what they have done means something to the viewers out there– to the people like me, who got far more from this show than just a fascinating story, who might have been a very different person today if they’d managed to wrestle the TV remote off of their brothers on that one night a dozen years ago. And who knows; a success for Prison Break now, like with The X-Files and Gilmore Girls before it, could mean reboots– and therefore justice– for even more beloved shows down the line, and even more opportunities for other fans to re-experience the things that helped to shape them into who they are.

And, well, this moment may have been eight long years in the making– but whatever happens, it was worth it.

so i've recently gotten into haikyuu and your art is so amazing and i 100% ship kuroken because of it. like wow, you really capture their subtle feelings really well. i was wondering if you had any fic recs though? you've dragged me into this hell, please take responsibility.

thank you so much for your kind words Q-Q, I often feel like my art is not enough? like not expressive enough, or just not nice to look at so that means a lot me <3

okay I’ve read TONS of excellent kuroken in my days and here are some of my favorites. Also be aware that most of these are longer because I love slowburn and you can’t just have that in 3k words but there are some shorter oneshots around too.

The links are under the cut because I have no chill and there are SO MANY

For the month of October, Lina got the chance to catch up with @kay-emm-gee, author of Small Favors, The More Things Change, Bedgate and many, many more, which you can find here

BFF: Tell us about yourself!

Kayla: Hi, I’m Kayla - twentysomething, from the USA, graduate student in cancer biology. And to keep myself sane from science, I spend a good chunk of my free time watching TV and reading. I adore any type of romance story, and those of the fantasy, sci-fi, and historical genres most of all. And, when I’m too tired to read or write, I’m also an avid knitter! #grandmastatus #proudofit

BFF: When did you start shipping Bellarke?

Kayla: Pretty late compared to most, I think? Not until season 2, even though I loved their dynamic from the beginning. I was intrigued by the idea of shipping them by the end of season 1, but I can’t say I really committed until The Hug^tm from 2x05 (I love that I have to specify which hug now lol) and then they went straight to OTP status from there!

BFF: How long have you been writing fanfiction?

Kayla: Funny enough…I actually wrote fanfiction when I was eight or nine, based on Pony Pals (I was obsessed with horses for many of my younger years), I believe, for a class assignment. So that was technically my start haha – but I guess my first published fanfiction was on FFN for Avatar The Last Airbender, a little piece that was supposed to be a prologue for a longer Zuko/Katara post-series multichapter AU…which I planned out entirely but never wrote (some things never change!). I posted a few other things there (for Smallville, Gossip Girl, The Infernal Devices series) but I was more in a reading stage then and couldn’t get enough of fanfiction (Tempest in A Teacup or Stormbenders, anyone??). I didn’t hit a prolific writing phase until Bellarke! And then the floodgates opened and I couldn’t stop writing, for them or for other ships too.

BFF: Are you a part of any other fandoms?

Kayla: Game of Thrones is something I have gotten into writing for recently, although it’s mostly for rarepair ships, which is strange for me (shameless plug for my sideblog, @winterfellslady). I’m usually very much about the narratively obvious pairings, but the Thrones universe is so expansive that it’s hard not to see so many possibilities. Aside from that, I’ve written here and there for a lot of other fandoms: Teen Wolf, A Court of Thorns & Roses series, From Dusk Till Dawn, The White Princess, The Shannara Chronicles, Reign, & Black Sails.

BFF: Which of your fics was easiest to write, and why?

Kayla: First one that comes to mind as ‘easiest’ was my Peaky Blinders AU oneshot (Our Glory Days Are Numbered). It was a 3AM fic idea that just would not go away, and so I sat up and wrote it in less than an hour with barely any edits. It was a rare experience of producing something I was super proud of, super quickly. The process is usually much more laborious for me when it comes to fics that I want to stand out. As far as multi-chapters, strangely enough, my first one (Small Favors) was easiest to write? I think it was because I had very concise & defined ideas for each chapter, so it kept it simple and the ideas didn’t run away from me…like they do most times now.

BFF: Which fic did you find most challenging to write?

Kayla: It’s a tie between my modern scientist/lawyer AU i pick my poison (and it’s you) and my modern Sense & Sensibility AU by insensible degrees. The first never sat quite right with me (still doesn’t) because I never felt like the scientist perspective/experience came through smoothly enough. The second was tough because I had to power through writing it in its entirety before posting, which was a resolution for me so I didn’t leave it unfinished, but wow was it difficult. It ended up working, but it took almost a year to write (and honestly, it only got finished because @hawthornewhisperer gave me such good feedback & encouragement along the way so shoutout to her for that!). Even so, it’s probably one of my favorite fics that I’ve ever written.

On Fanfiction Writers’ Appreciation Day

I want to begin my appreciation post by saying that there are so many, many talented writers in my life, I am bound and sure to miss more than one.  Please know if your name isn’t here, it does not mean that I don’t love your work. It is probably more because of a combination of any of the following: I’m tired, I have had some wine, it’s Monday, I don’t know your Tumblr handle to connect to your fic, I’m a giant jerk, I’m not in the fandom so it’s not top of head, and also the tired thing again because it’s probably worth saying eight times.

That said, I do want to highlight some of the (like I said MANY) talented writers I am so lucky to have come across, entertaining me and keeping me from making dents in my TBR mountains of books. These are in no particular order - I love all the things in different ways and have an infinite supply of love to heap on you. But I am going to start with one I want particularly acknowledged, because they are not a single person but rather could be almost any of you: the Fledgling Fanfic Writer.

Dearest tiny bird just spreading your wings, whether you are just getting ready to publish your first piece or are just poking around in your document, thinking you aren’t ready to share your words with anyone yet or maybe ever: you are awesome. Keep writing, keep doing it for you. I promise, there is an audience out there for you and they will love you, and if you never publish ever that’s okay too. Your words are yours, first and foremost, and you don’t owe them to anyone. All the hearts to you, perfect ageless fledgling.

And now by the names… under the cut, I’m gonna get LONG (winded).

One Last Goobye

She loved her the moment she was born. This small little pink thing wrapped in a pink blanket. Seven pounds and four ounces, twenty-one inches long. She’s absolutely stunning.

Same brown hair, same cheekbones, and maybe even the same eye color. But this was the baby she dreamed of having with Lauren.

She smiled at the thought. Her finger tracing the contours of the infant’s face, from her almost non-existent eyebrows, her small nose, to her cute pert lips, there was nothing she could ever dislike about this child. Nothing.

“Hi, Maddie. I’m Auntie Camila, but you can call me whatever you like but Aunt Karla.” She smiled, staring at the sleeping baby. She picked up her little hand off her chest and cradled it with her finger.

“You’re so small,” like it was an unbelievable thing.

Still holding the baby’s hand, Camila looked around the small confines of the nursery. The walls were blue with soft little clouds on them, a diaper changing table on the far left of the room, an expensive looking crib on the right, and an area full of toys of all sizes.

Maddie was propped up on Camila’s legs while she sat leaning against the wall. The window next to her showed a nice view of downtown Miami and the pretty colors of the sunset to go with it.

“I like your room. Not enough pink for my taste, but I’m guessing your mother was too lazy to do anything else. Figures. She was never super good at arts and crafts. I think this window seat is probably the best idea she thought about for your room. If this…”

This wasn’t her room. This wasn’t her house. And this wasn’t her baby. She laughed quietly to herself. Clearly thinking she’s going crazy. She probably is.

“Sorry,” she whispered quietly. The dull ache in her chest is still the same after all these years. Somethings never change.

“I’m sorry I never got to hold you the day you were born. I don’t think your mom wanted me to anyways.”

Whether that was true or not, the moment Camila walked into that delivery room, the color on Lauren’s face drained. The surprise on her face almost made Camila turn around and make an excuse to leave. It already seemed clear that she wasn’t welcomed. But Dinah gave her a look and she knew she wasn’t going anywhere.

The group of friends huddled around Lauren and the newborn, while Camila awkwardly stood off to the side. Lauren had this happy-tired glow around her. There was something off about her smile though. Camila saw how reserved and almost uncomfortable it looked. She couldn’t tell if it was her presence or if something was physically wrong. The woman did just give birth.

“Someone asked if I wanted to hold you. I looked over at your mom and she looked stiff. So, I thought best I probably shouldn’t. It’s not that I didn’t want too, Maddie. It’s just…I’ve put your mom through a lot. And it was a happy day. You were born. I couldn’t just sit there and keep making your mom uncomfortable. That was the last thing I wanted.”

She remembered wanting to leave more than ever. Dinah’s apologetic eyes on her after she saw how stiff Lauren got. Thankfully, Camila’s phone rang and she excused herself.

“I didn’t come back after that. I just headed straight to Auntie Dinah’s car and waited for her there. I was too busy trying to keep my emotions in check, I didn’t even get to hear what you were named.”

Madison, the name her and Lauren came up with on their trip to vegas for Camila’s 21st birthday. Two girls sitting on a bench in front of Caesar’s Palace, completely shitfaced and talking about the possibility of them having kids together. The memory is a little hazy but Camila remembers when she told Lauren she wanted to name their kid after their friend Madison who passed away in high school of cancer.

“I didn’t think your mom remembered. But here you are, Maddie.” She laughs a little, “It’s funny. Your name pretty much means ‘Gift of God.’” She laughs a little more. This little girl literally was “a gift from God”.

The sun has long set and Dinah should be back soon to pick her up before Lauren and her boyfriend got home. Ally should be back now from the convenience store…or wherever she went. It was her job to babysit Maddie, but here Camila was, babysitting and thinking about her life.

She felt content though. It took her awhile, but she finally accepted that this was her life.

She will always be the old best friend or an old friend from high school and college, maybe even the awkward Aunt who stands in the back and looks out of place because she’s barely around. Maybe even nothing…just Camila.

“I leave tomorrow. I got a promotion and they’re sending me to Palo Alto to work with the bigwigs at headquarters. I’m nervous. California is a big change. But I’ve been working hard to get this promotion…to get away.”

Camila looked out the window, hoping to see a star. Instead it was cloudy and looked like the fog might set in. She looked back down at Maddie. So serene and so innocent. A hard sleeper that’s for sure.

“I love your mom, just not the way she wants me to. I think this opportunity is a good chance for me to start new and for your mom to continue living her life. For the last couple of years, I’ve been weighing her down and that’s a couple years too long.”

She stood up cradling Maddie against her chest. She walked over to the expensive looking crib and held out the baby one last time.

“I hope you grow healthy. And I hope that with whatever decision you make in your life, you’ll be happy. I’m sorry I won’t be able to watch you grow,” tears falling down her cheeks like silent rain, “But just know that Auntie Camila loves you no matter what.”

She brought the baby closer to her body and gave her a soft kiss on her small forehead. This was it. This was the closest she will ever get to closure with Lauren. It was sad. An eight year friendship reduced down to her saying sorry and goodbye to Lauren though her infant daughter. It was all she had to work with. Lauren never really gave her the time of day, probably because she didn’t know how to deal with Camila’s feelings.

And Camila would never blame her.

She gently laid Maddie down into the crib. Making sure she was nicely tucked in, Camila started to rub soft circles on her chest, “Goodnight baby girl. I love you.”

She stopped rubbing her chest and gave her one last long glance before heading to the door.

“Camila…” And everything stopped.

Welp. I went down the hole of Camren and now I’m sad I missed the bulk of all their moments. But, I wrote something for them after a friend “accidentally” introduced me to them. Shout out to that homie.
Anyways, I hope you like my one shot. Critiques are welcome! Read the prequel if you want!

A Hephaestus TV Special

Summary: Olympus tunes in to a Hephaestus TV Special- featuring Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase on the Thrill Ride of Love.

The screen suddenly switched, eliciting protests from gods and goddesses, both major and minor, and even nymphs, all over Olympus.

“Now, why would he cancel the show that had been made in my honor?” Athena shook her head, frowning slightly. ’So You Think You Can Weave Better Than A Goddess’ was one of Olympus’s favourite shows and Athena made an effort to tune in only because weaving was her specialty. Heck, she invented it. Besides, she wanted to view the nincompoops who dared challenge her try and fail.

A Hephaestus TV Special, live from Waterland! Featuring: Ares and Aphrodite!

“Not this again!” Demeter complained. “Can’t Hephaestus just eat his cereal and forget about that love goddess?”

“Mother, do you really have to mention cereal in everything you talk about?” Persephone, who was spending the summer with her, sighed in exasperation.

“Haha!” Apollo grinned as the words flickered across a small screen in his Maserati. “This is going to be good. I’ll have to record it.”

In her palace, Hera had her face in her hands. “My sons, my sons, why?” she grumbled.

“This gets old, but I guess it won’t hurt watching it again,” Poseidon muttered to himself, in his palace in Atlantis.

“Those messages can wait,” Hermes said.

Aphrodite, enjoying a treatment by her favourite nymphs at their spa, looked up in surprise. “But I’m not even there!” she muttered, absent-mindedly holding out a hand to a nymph who began preparing her nails for a manicure.

The screen flashed to life, but there was no sign of the god of war nor the goddess of love. Instead, water washed across the screen like it was a live tsunami broadcast. The water roared into a pool, sweeping away a hoard of metallic insects with eight legs.

“Ugh, spiders,” Athena muttered, but her eyes widened at the next scene.

Percy Jackson, that son of Poseidon whom almost all of Olympus had branded ‘The Lightning Thief’, was pulling Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena into a boat, and fastening her seat belt just as a tidal wave crashed against the boat, drenching both of them and sweeping the spiders away. The boat turned, lifted in the flood and began spinning in circles around the whirlpool.

“What is that boy doing with my daughter?!” Athena yelled, outraged.

“Plot twist! Best episode ever!” Apollo exclaimed. He thought of his sister. “Oh, Artemis, if only the forests had televisions…”

“Percy! It’s my boy, Percy!” Poseidon gaped at the screen. Nearby, Amphitrite and Triton scowled. “And isn’t that an Athena girl?” His eyes took in the amount of water swirling about, and he smiled to himself. The apple never falls far from the tree!

“What’s going on?” At his forge, Hephaestus scowled at the screen. “The location hasn’t been changed…” His face grew red at the thought of his brother escaping this one.

“It’s that thief!” Zeus fumed.

Down in the Underworld, Hades glared at his screen as well.

Aphrodite clapped her semi-manicured hands. “My new favourite demigod couple!”

The boat was turning. Poseidon noticed his son’s grim expression and knew he was trying to control it. “Go, Percy!” he cheered. Then the boat’s nose turned towards the tunnel and the two demigods rocketed through it. They disappeared from sight, but all the gods and nymphs could clearly hear the screams coming from the tunnel.

Then the cameras panned, and all the viewers were treated to a view of the boat shooting straight out of the tunnel and barrelling towards the exit- the Golden Gates of Love. But the gates were closed, and chained.

“They’re going to crash. Annabeth, think of something!” Athena spoke to her screen as though her daughter could hear her. At the moment, she didn’t care that Percy was in the boat as well; Annabeth could get injured if that piece of wreck slammed into those gates.

Percy Jackson strapped a shield to his arm. Aphrodite raised an eyebrow. That looked a lot like Ares’s shield. The boat was hurtling fast towards the chained gates. “Simple physics!” Annabeth could be heard yelling. “Force times the trajectory angle-”

“That’s my girl!” Athena beamed.

The two demigods were thrown into the air as the boat smashed. All of Olympus held their breaths. Percy and Annabeth soared straight over the gates, over the pool, and down towards solid asphalt.

“Annabeth, no!” Athena cried.

“Percy!” Poseidon yelled.

But then the two demigods appeared suspended in mid-air. The cameras panned a little to reveal a satyr with flying shoes (Hermes raised an eyebrow), grabbing them and trying to pull them out of a crash landing, but they had all the momentum. They went down fast, and smashed into a photo-board, the satyr’s head going through a hole. the other two demigods tumbled to the ground, banged up, but alive.

“Thank goodness,” Athena sighed with relief.

“They did it!” Poseidon beamed.

Apollo shouted with laughter. “That satyr-dolphin! I need to make a gif for this.”

Spotlights rained down on the demigods and the satyr, who had gotten to their feet. Percy Jackson looked up. “Show’s over!” he yelled. “Thank you! Good night!”

“Aww!” Apollo pressed a button a small remote and the words 'RECORDED’ flashed across the screen. “I’m giving this episode the highest ratings!”

“Well, that was refreshing,” Demeter stated, as the screen cut to a commercial break advertising a new restaurant run by dryads (Be one of our first 50 customers and receive a package of ambrosia and nectar packed in a tree-bark thermos, for FREE!). “I bet those kids eat cereal. Maybe I’ll actually take some time to give it a good rating.”

Persephone groaned.

“My new OTP! This is wonderful!” Aphrodite squealed with delight. “Did you see that, girls?” she shot at the nymphs serving her. “They make such a lovely couple!”

“He’d better be on his way here to return my lightning bolt,” Zeus growled.

“That’s my boy!” Poseidon was humming to himself, completely oblivious to the dark looks on Amphitrite and Triton’s faces.

“Now, what was my daughter doing with that sea spawn again?” Athena scowled.

“Oh well,” Hephaestus sighed. “But next time, brother Ares is not getting away from me!” He glanced at a computer. “Wow, look at the ratings…”

(The whole ratings thing was because Percy wondered about them :-D Thanks for reading!)

  • and taehyung just smiles all wide like “um yah that sounds good! i love when you’re that close to your friends!!”
  • and you just hear yoongi screaming in the background
  • and it goes on like this for a while where tae says some not friend like things about you like “man man wouldn’t it be nice to wake up to her face every morning?? man i would die”
  • or “god that is a nice ass butt where do i sign up for some of that”
  • and the boys are tired of him being oblivious af

  • and behold he is holding a baby kitten and you’re about to unload but he uses the pout and the puppy eyes
  • and that is how leo joined the family
  • although tae is really kinda childish sometimes and bright and innocent he would easily tell when you’re upset
  • and he would listen to you first before trying to solve anything right away
  • and then he would make you some hot chocolate//tea whatever you like and sit down with you and try to talk you through the issue
  • he’s a lot more insightful than people want to believe
  • and he doesn’t really seem like the super clingy type but when they’re away that all changes like he calls you every single time he gets a break and makes sure you’re eating and sleeping enough
  • he’s always showing you off to his family too like “pumpkin pose my grandma wants an updated picture of you thankS”
  • he would introduce you to the family right off the back
  • and they all love you and ask when the wedding is gonna be and tae is like um once im old enough so maybe like next year!
  • and you kinDA WHAT
  • he wouldn’t rush you into anything though he’s so respectful and precious
  • and we ignore the leash incident on this post to keep things calm cool and collected
  • like you’re his number one priority and he spoils you so much
  • like always buying you things

I’ve finished your gift! Thanks for being a great friend! And as my gift to you, I wrote for your OTP! I’ve titled it, “How to Get a Girlfriend (For Dummies)” Enjoy~!

It was another normal day at Twin Axes Booksellers, one of the largest bookstore chains on Remnant. As one could expect, there wasn’t much noise in the store, save for the soft jazz playing through the speakers and the ambient noise that came from the connecting cafe.

Uprooted by Noami Novik

My Rating: 5/5

“Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley.”

Forget everything you think you know about folklore and enter Novik’s realm of dark fantasy in this stunning debut full of lush and terrifying fiction. Uprooted is easily a unique masterpiece with plots and characters unlike any others in its genre. I started off reading this book as one would begin a thrilling but harrowing task. I’m never one to be put off by the size of a book, however at first glance Uprooted seems like a monstrosity of small fonts and lengthy pages, something that can make any reader feel threatened.

Do NOT let this fool you, for once I began to invest my time into the chapters, the pace quickened so much so that I devoured two-hundred pages over the course of a few hours (which for me, and my ADD, was remarkable)! In a strange way, I felt that the book was almost too good for my brain to keep up with everything…if that even makes sense. I like to thoroughly take in every detail of any story, and Novik is a wordsmith goddesses, so of course I was bit overwhelmed by my own sheer exuberance. There’s enough space between her phrases to leave room to the imagination, a feat that I respect when it comes to how an author writes his/her story. But in my case, I was just so excited to read the book that I wound up thinking about reading the book…instead of actually reading the book…(*insert face-palm*). Nevertheless, this piece of fiction is exceptionally crafted and brimming with strong protagonists. This is all I want in an epic fantasy, and I have a feeling you will want it too.

“It comes, I suppose,” I said thoughtfully, speaking to the air, “of spending too much time alone indoors, and forgetting that living things don’t always stay where you put them.”

We start off our journey with Agnieszka, a young peasant living in the quant village of Dvernik which borders the deadly, malevolent Wood. Her dearest friend, Kasia, emits strong beauty and bravery―qualities of which the Dragon sees fit enough for a new servant. The Dragon is an immortal wizard who protects the villagers against the dark magic of the Wood, yet each decade he takes the most promising girl to live with and serve him for the next ten years of her life. He des not harm the girls, and each one never returns to their meager lifestyle in the valley once they are put back into the world―instead going off to greater cities pluming wealth and prosperity. Kasia has known since she was a child that she is more than likely to be chosen by the Dragon. Agnieskza has known as well, and the thought of losing her aquatinted-sister is maddening. Until the day of the harvest comes, and the Dragon does not choose Kasia.

*It is now three-o’clock in the morning and I just finished Uprooted after binging the book for the previous forty-eight hours. My head is still spinning. That was without a doubt one of the best books I’ve ever read.

The plot was enchanting with all its twists and turns, especially considering the abstract idea of the antagonist―and I only say idea because this antagonist was not a person, rather it was a forest more eerie than the one found in Snow White. The Wood, as it is known amongst the characters, is a giant shadow of land that lurks within reach of the village inhabitance, constantly picking off children and others who wander too close. It spreads like disease and can corrupt those who’ve never even been to the outer reaches of the valley, simply by plaguing someone and sending them back without seemingly any traces of evil. Novak has created such a compelling image of darkness, and it is all the more ingenious because this wickedness does not reside within a single person. The antagonist is not governed by what most living antagonists are contrived of―no, this antagonist is literally Mother Nature in full fury.

To defeat such a villain, Agnieskza must learn quickly of who she was destined to be, and with the begrudging help of her mentor, the Dragon. The most shocking of all the subplots was undeniably the stories that came from the Wood and it’s origin. You’ll meet characters so wonderfully crafted, and they’ll tear your heart to pieces. This is not your average folktale. It’s so, so much more.

But the best thing by far were the characters and the relationships held between each of them. For starters, Agnieszka is not written as some beautiful damsel with a fate that will make or break the becomings of the universe― she’s simply a peasant girl who cannot go ten minutes without ripping her skirts or getting dirt in her hair. Her bravery, cunningness, compassion, and humorous whit are what makes her character so compelling. I fell in love with her, and that’s not very common for me and the main protagonists because I usually find some flaws that cannot be cast aside to be unnoticed. Raw and so wildly foreign, Agnieszka is all I’ve ever wanted in a strong heroine.

What makes her even better is the relationship she shares with her dearest friend, Kasia. I cannot begin to express how pleased I was that Novik didn’t touch upon two jealous friends who bicker over boys and beauty. I’m so disgusted with the trope of girls unnecessarily loathing one another, and this book was such an overwhelming breath of fresh air that their sisterly friendship actually did bring me to tears on a few occasions. Also, Kasia wasn’t left behind in the grand scheme of the books commencement. I won’t tell you what becomes of her because that would involve spoilers, but it’s pretty freaking awesome. Kasia is a courageously loyal friend, and a sharp sword when needed be.

The Dragon, much like Agnieszka, is not the average brooding male protagonist you might have expected. He’s refined and well-spoken, but also incredibly sarcastic and exasperated with the nonsense he has to put up with. Wizards, especially those who’ve been lingering for more than a century, have grown cold to the ways of endearment. The Dragon cares about the health and safety of his people, and those outside of his borders, but that doesn’t mean he wishes to tether himself to them in fear of being hurt through their inevitable deaths.

What I love most about him is how he treats everyone else around him, even those who we’d consider enemies. He’s not malicious or hot-headed, in fact he’s quite the opposite. The Dragon (and you will find out his true name int he book!) is very wise and very alone. Agnieszka enters his realm of brick towers and barriers and forces them all down in a heartbreakingly, amusing adventure full of bickering, snipping and name calling. I’m a sucker for platonic friendships, but I’m downright obsessed with those friendships that flourish into platonic romances (which then harvest into something even more beautiful as time goes on). So to surmise, Uprooted, although not heavily focusing on romance of any sort, enraptures all I want in a perfectly imperfect OTP (One True Pairing).

This story, although making my heart swell, was nonetheless dark and complicated. I don’t know if I’d truly classify this one as YA because there are moments where violence and explicit content are used as the foremost points of development. Perhaps it’s better as a NA novel? Regardless, I wouldn’t mind the rating at all so long as some of these entities don’t disturb you. I’m not quite certain what thrilled me the most; the romance, the battles, or the Wood. Every aspect of this novel was carefully delivered with an underlying tone of bitter darkness that halfway reminded me of tree rot or moss…not that I’m being nostalgic or anything (I totally am). I’ve studied forestry for a while and the organic diction and prose of this story had me swooning. The setting was delightful, and the writing style was one of the best I’ve ever come across. It kept me engaged from prologue to epilogue.

But for all the emphasis I put on the world-building and characters, one of the best things about this story was truly the aesthetic of wizardry and witches. I didn’t know I’d be reading about witches, specifically ones arranged so whimsically. The spell-language, as the Dragon called it, is lyrical even though my tongue tripped over the strange words more than a few times. The magic is so vividly described that it makes you feel as though you can brew the potions and cast the spells as well. This book presented a look inside the makings of wizards in such a new and darkly romantic angle, and I couldn’t have been more pleased.

Uprooted is brilliant beyond words, an old artwork that had been lost but newly found and restored to life. It was everything I had hoped it would be and MORE. I’m proud to say that Naomi Novik is now one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what else she’ll gift us in the future. I recommend this book to everyone! It deserves all of the stars, the moon, and the planets.

And, like all the books I love madly, I made a playlist for Uprooted which you can listen to HERE. I hope it inspires you to read the book, or if you have read it already then I hope it delights you!

Stiles knows he’s in trouble when he invites the Beacon Hills Fire Department into his third grade classroom and he can’t stop staring at a certain scruffy fireman. But after the third graders take a field trip to the fire station and participate in the fire department’s holiday canned food drive, Stiles can’t ignore his crush any longer.

Stiles is a paramedic and Derek gets into a bike accident.

It’s kind of love at first sight.

Part 1 of Whatever Comes Our Way ‘verse

He’s too busy waxing poetic in his own head about the surly – dreamy – dude holding the sign for the hotel to notice Scott already making his way over. He pauses halfway when he realises Stiles isn’t following him, turning around and eyeing Stiles curiously, “Dude, come on, the guy’s waiting.”

Stiles snaps himself into action and pushes his cart carrying his suitcases over to where Scott’s introducing himself to Stiles’ future husband.

“-And this is Stiles,” Scott is saying just as Stiles arrives next to him.

“I’m Derek,” the guy replies gruffly, folding the sign up and tucking it under his arm. “I’ll be taking you back to the hotel.”

prompt: “There is a world where whenever someone fantasizes about you, you can physically feel it, but you have no idea who is thinking it about you.”

Stiles knows it’s wrong, but he’s been Fantasizing about Derek and he can’t bring himself to stop. Derek doesn’t know who’s taken an interest in him, but he’s enjoying it way more than he probably should.

Derek can’t believe he’s actually doing this: taking a selfie snap of the guy he’s been crushing on for weeks to prove to Danny that one, yes, he really does exist, and two, he really is that hot and thus he is totally justified in being too scared to make a move.

Or you know, even talk to the guy outside of the class they share.

In his defense, this isn’t just any guy. This THE guy. Hot Nerd. The utterly adorable but still somehow insanely sexy freshman in his twentieth century American Lit class who he’s been lusting over since the first day of the semester. If there were ever a time for him to be that person who tries to be subtle while taking snaps of other people, this is it.

Part 1 of the Hot Nerd Alert series

Stiles always knew finding a mate would be hard for him. He’s not bright and beautiful like Lydia, or stong like Danny or adorable like Scott.

He was just Stiles, ADHD riddled fox kid who loved to draw.

Derek Hale was everything, popular, strong, smart and gorgeous.

They get put together on an English assignment and it doesn’t go at all like Stiles expects.

31/M/New York. Rich, lays in bed all day, likes to read (aka Derek Hale, son of an Oscar winning actress, brother of one obnoxious reality star and one rebellious fashion designer, hates the paparazzi so much he’s a recluse)

26/M/California. Boring office job, likes to read (aka Stiles Stilinski, co-owner of a 100 acre organic farm with his dad and two best friends, writer of obits for a newspaper, has absolutely no life)

Or, where Derek and Stiles meet online, and Stiles has no clue Derek’s part of a famous family.

Based on a truly ridiculous conversation with Kalpurna about a hypothetical Stilinski Twins situation that ended up sounding something like:

“FUUUUUUCK, is it a sweet valley high situation where Stiles is very aware that his twin is way more attractive and confident than he is, EVEN THOUGH THEY’RE IDENTICAL, and he always ends up with the hotter significant others and more friends and Stiles guesses that’s why he’s attracted to the pack at first, because it’s something that’s just his, not his twin’s too. But of course, Stiles’s twin gets bit and now he’s part of Derek’s pack, and Derek doesn’t snap at him like he snaps at Stiles, never slams him into things, fucking FIGURES, STILES’S TWIN GETS EVERYTHIIIIIIIING.”

Kalpurna/good ideas OTP.

Stiles Stilinski is the long-suffering assistant of Derek Hale, editor extraordinaire. Also jackass extraordinaire.

The Proposal AU where Stiles has to get engaged to his terrifying boss Derek in order to prevent him being deported. And somehow has to persuade his family that they’re really in a relationship (stop laughing, Scott). Difficult doesn’t even cover it.

Derek and Stiles are the most typical combo of nerd plus geek two teenage boys could be; and as stereotypical as they could ever get, they’re each other’s only friend. That usually doesn’t bother Stiles much, Derek is the best best friend he could ever hope to have, but sometimes when he thinks about his fate of possibly not having his first kiss until college, he starts wishing he had a few more friends–or at least more people who were a bit more interested in him other than when they need to copy his notes.

In a fit of curiosity about how kissing feels like, Stiles proposes Derek that they each be the other’s first kiss–strictly platonic, of course. But afterwards, Stiles can’t stop noticing how hot Derek is, can’t stop thinking about kissing and touching him.

The five times Derek and Stiles “fake” kiss and one time they take things further.

One of Stiles’ favorite things about life is Derek Hale’s food blog. He never expects to meet the man in person.

“Derek,” he says again, and the name feels very strange on his tongue. “You don’t mean Derek Hale.”

His professor’s eyebrows reach up, eyes widening. “You read his blog?”

“Uh. Worship. Would be a better more descriptive word. That is Derek Hale?”

Jimmy chuckles. “Good-looking guy, huh?”

“You mean to tell me the Food Network hasn’t snatched him up to dethrone everyone else from daytime TV.”

Jimmy smiles a small private smile. “I don’t think TV is his medium.”

Stiles raises an eyebrow. “Shy?”

The man laughs heartily at that. “No, I wouldn’t say that. He just has particular forms of expression, like eyebrows and chili powder.”

In which brainy freshman Stiles Stilinski wants star quarterback Derek Hale to join the math team, AKA math nerds in love.

Derek and Laura run a pure food store and coffeehouse. There’s this boy Stiles who’s a regular customer. He’s infuriating, of course, but there’s something about him.

Derek figured the Children of Villains support group would at least be full of outcasts like him. How wrong could he be?

“Did you say–” Stiles starts.

“What?” Derek growls.

“We’re not a couple!” they both retort in unison.

“We’re not together,” Stiles insists.

Lydia coughs pointedly. “An incident report filed by 87th Precinct Captain Erica Reyes. March twenty-fifth, eight p.m. Came back to the precinct to grab my coat, only to hear Stilinski banging his new boyfriend in the holding cell.”

“Top or bottom?” Stiles asks, off to Derek’s right.

“Bottom,” Derek says automatically, not really looking at him. “Wait, what?”

For Riz.
Prompt: College!AU. Dean and Cas are at a party and have been harbouring feelings for one another. Gabriel gets them to play ‘truth or dare’ to admit their feelings for each other.

Dean’s palms are not sweating. He isn’t picking at the label of his beer. And he sure as hell isn’t nervous.

Truth or dare is a stupid high school game.

Dean is a grown-ass man.

Pre-war bucky x reader for the otp challenge

  • Who made the first move? At first, you knew that you wouldn’t give into his relentless charms and lines he used on the girls around you. But you’ve known him the longest; even longer than Steve. He wouldn’t even try. And he never did, if you’re to be honest and look at in perspective. The night he told you his feelings had been one of the few moments you’d seen him so nervous in front of a girl. So you pulled him into an embrace, chuckling into his neck. “You got nothin’ to be scared of, Buck,” you told him, and he’d pulled his head back to eye you. You only broadened your smile, but it was enough for his own to stretch across his lips.
  • Who said “I love you” first? Bucky did. In fact, it was the night he told you what he truly felt for you. “I don’t think I’ve ever been so sure of anything in all my years,” he said. “I love you. God, Y/N, I love you so damn much, it’s tough to see where I didn’t know you’re the one I really want. Because I’ve always known.” After his final words, he’d fallen silent, deadpanning and running a hand through his hair. Nervous.
  • How often do they fight? A fairly even amount, you suppose. It was often over only silly things. “Could you quit bein’ a baby for a little bit and give me a hand over here?” you’d question him when you’re struggling. “Who’s to say I wanna quit?” he’d shoot back. But the only real fight you’ve had as a couple was the morning he’d visited you with the news of his enlistment. You knew it was gonna happen; you recalled playing “soldier” with Steve and him as children. But the older the three of you got, the more wary you became. You’d all lost your fathers to the Great War. You had no input into the boys’ decision they’d made as far as when they were eight years old. Yet as soon as the words slipped from Bucky’s mouth, tears welled up in your eyes. You pointed out how you felt about him not running it by you first. You began to cry, unwillingly pounded your fists against his chest, though you knew it wouldn’t effect him at all, and he’d carefully put his arms around you, whispering his promises into your hair. It wasn’t much a fight, really.
  • Who’s the big spoon/little spoon? Bucky likes you taut against his chest at night; you like it that way, too. He’d twirl curled strands of your hair with his fingers, humming softly. You’d wrap an arm around his torso, shutting your eyes and listening to his soft humming mingling with the steadiness of his heartbeat.
  • What are their nicknames are for each other? Although “Bucky” is really a nickname on its own, you have a knack for calling him by his first name. Really, you’re the only one around who ever does. He’s only ever called you Y/N, but as soon as you’re a couple, he manages to slip “doll” in here and there. You don’t mind it at all.
  • Who’s the better cook? You. He’s definitely made many attempts, all results ending to either moderate or disastrous. Still, it’s nice to have a helping hand in the kitchen — even if the man whose hand it belongs to happens to be the frustratingly greatest distraction.
  • Their song? Bucky and you are very musical people. Although he enjoys the fast-paced, exciting songs and your taste is more on the opposite end of that, you always find something to agree on. Your favourite by far is “Three Little Words” by the Rhythm Boys; one that always gets the two of you swaying, laughing.
  • Who remembers their anniversaries? Both of you do, honestly. But you’ve established the running gag of pretending to forget as soon as he’s handed you the bouquet of flowers, which would immediately have him putting on a feigned pout. He knows when you’re playing around; he always does.
  • Their favourite thing to do together (besides sex)? Dancing is an often occurrence between the two of you, even if you don’t consider yourself as big of a dancer as he is. Yet you always find yourself having fun. Well, truly, you always enjoy yourself with him, no matter what the hell you’re both doing together. As cheesy as it may sound.
  • Who “wears the pants” in the relationship? You both do. Being two considerably busy people, you always find a way to squeeze in a set of plans when you find the time to see each other. And you always do.
  • How they would get engaged? Bucky would surely think about it weeks before. He’d surely ask Steve for advice on the ring and the plans leading up to popping the big question. It’s nothing too spectacular; you’ve always been minimalistic at heart, but honestly, he hopes just enough. He’d take you to the footbridge overlooking the pond in the park. You’d have an easy conversation, and then he’d draw it into a small speech about knowing you (“Y/N, I don’t know how the hell I got to be as lucky as to get to fall in love with my best friend…”). Then, when he is finished, he’d get down on his knee and ask you. You’d say yes, yes, a hundred times yes, because there would be no way for you to say no.
  • What their wedding would be like? Simple, quiet, nothing too over-the-top. Both of you only have so much money. And you knew that dream as a little girl; of that perfect wedding, with roses and linen and pearls… But you know now that you don’t need all of that. All you really want is to spend your life with the man you’ve already had so many years with.
  • How many kids will they have? Bucky and you discuss the possibility of it one night, laying in bed with his fingers in your hair. He fondly paints out the many kids you’ll have — James Barnes, Jr., Steven, Emma, Little Rosie. You laugh. “I’m not entirely sure we can handle that many,” you say. He sighs and says, “All right. One or two. Or three.” You smile, raising your chin to look at him. “Maybe. One day.”
