otp: could have been marrieds

I very, very rarely complain about OUAT. It is my show, it is my great, epic tv love. So, as much as I hate to do it, I need to vent…

So, now that the promo photo of Emma’s wedding dress has sunk in, I must say that it slightly…bothers me that Emma’s dress looks almost identical to Grace Kelly’s. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, mind you, it’s a gorgeous dress.
In fact, I believe my original reaction upon seeing the dress was OH MY GOD GRACE KELLY, and I freaked out. I loved it. But that’s just it…I loved the dress and recognized it as Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly wore it first. So, it feels like it’s already been done, because it has been done.

However, in creating Princess Emma of Misthaven/The Enchanted Forest, Once Upon A Time essentially created a brand new, completely original Disney princess. She is Princess Emma.

But by putting her in a replica of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress (however stunning of a replica it is, because seriously, like everything Eduardo does, it’s spot-on), Emma doesn’t even get her own perfect, original, princess wedding dress. It’s essentially another Princess’s wedding dress, or at least heavily inspired by. With this wedding, there was a chance to do something entirely original, but they chose to revisit a gown–however beautiful and timeless–from the 1950′s.

If there’s only one thing that I don’t like about this wedding, it’s that. Princess Emma doesn’t get to be Princess Emma of Misthaven at her own wedding, she’s styled after Princess Grace of Monaco.

Will it ruin the wedding for me? No, of course not–MY OTP IS GETTING MARRIED. Does it make an occasion that could have been entirely one-of-a-kind seem slightly less original, even by the tiniest increment? Yeah, a little.

And, if I’m being entirely honest, I half expected feathers. Like mother, like daughter, no?
