It’s gonna be amazing. He’s so psyched. Living by himself for the first time? Stiles has got this. He doesn’t need his dad or Scott. He can be an adult all by himself.
Okay sure, he already misses them, but they’re just a phone call away. It’s not like they’re gone from his life forever. Scott got married; he didn’t die. And Stiles has reached an age (and finally a steady income) where it’s time for him to live away from his dad. He has Melissa to help watch what his dad eats, so he doesn’t feel as guilty leaving him. Plus, his dad made many comments about randomly popping in to make sure Stiles is doing well. It was probably supposed to scare Stiles, but he’s more excited at the thought of his dad visiting than scared.
A week in, Stiles has met some of his neighbors and still has no regrets. There’s Erica and Boyd across the hall, and Erica leered way too much for an engaged woman, but there’s something about her that Stiles likes and sees them being friends. Next to them is Derek, who may look like he hates everything, but you should see him holding his cat. Also he’s ridiculously hot. But it’s probably bad form to flirt with your neighbors, right? Who knows at this point.
A month in, things are still good. Only problem is, Stiles can’t open his jar of salsa he bought two weeks ago when he got groceries. He keeps trying, but it’s futile. His dad or Scott or Allison used to always open the jars and apparently, Stiles can’t. So no salsa for him sadly.
Two months in, the salsa jar is still firmly closed, but Stiles isn’t worrying about it. What he does worry about that he made enough spaghetti for five people, and he can maybe eat two servings. Sure leftovers, but he doesn’t want his next three meals after this being spaghetti. That’s just too much. He goes across the hall and asks Erica and Boyd, but they’ve got dinner plans already, so then he goes to the right and knocks on Derek’s door.
