STORY:
Wood is probably man’s oldest natural component and its history as a jewelry component is as old as time itself. In Medieval Folklore certain trees were held to be sacred with supposedly protective powers. This superstition is still relevant today as we continue to “touch wood” to guard against bad luck. Wood is good for grounding and stabilizing one’s emotions. It is particularly useful in calming survival-based fears, as it assists one in accessing their practical side for answers, then offering a feelings of safety and security. Wood makes one feel ageless. It also offers “gentle hours in the day”, to assist one in keeping pace with the day, keeping the hours from neither hurrying by or moving to slow. It projects a feeling that all will be right. During a crisis, a piece of Wood will give you strength and support, providing insight into cause and effect.

PACKAGING:
Your Wooden dangles will be packaged in a decorative dust bag. They will then be shipped to you in a padded mailing envelope.

NOTE:
Many Ooh-la-la Beadtique handmade products are crafted using natural components such as semiprecious stones, freshwater pearls, and wood. No two materials in nature are alike. The Wooden dangles that you will receive may slightly vary in shade and texture pattern from the picture listing. Also note, that all monitors and computer screens are calibrated differently. The same product may appear in diverse colors on different monitors.

Navajo Jewellery🌓🌾🎍

With spring just around the corner Urban Goddess Apparel will be re stocking it’s bohemiam style Navjo Jewellery pieces in again, I’ve re ordered some previous popular items from last summers stock.

Native Americans have used Jewellery through the years both as adornment and in trade. Native Americans often use stones like turquoise to make their jewellery especially Native American rings and necklaces.
This semi-precious stone can be found in mineral deposits in the United States southwest as well as South America and has been used for thousands of years.

It’s been said that the Ancient Native Americans believed turquoise to be pieces of the sky. Prehistoric Indians mined turquoise for adornment purposes -primarily drilled turquoise beads and ornaments.

In recent years Native American Jewellery has increased in popularity and is still in wide demand and highly fashionable today.
Pieces are re created by high street shops and Jewellery designers all the time, it’s a timeless and beautiful style of Jewellery with such a interesting history behind it ,and of course makes gorgeous acsessories that can transform any outfit.

Here are some of UGA stock that is being re stocked for our spring collection, new pieces will be included too 🍃✨

"Just as the social significance of hair was important, so was its aesthetic appeal. According to Sylvia Ardyn Boone, an anthropologist who specializes in the Mende culture of Sierre Leone, “West African communities admire a fine head of long, thick hair on a woman. A woman with long thick hair demonstrates the life force, the multiplying power of profusion, prosperity, a ‘green thumb’ for bountiful farms and many healthy children” (Tharps and Byrd 2001) However, there was more to being beautiful than having long tresses. One’s hair also had to be neat, clean, and arranged in a certain style. These styles included, but were not limited to, cornrows, and other braided styles. They also adorned the hair with ornaments such as beads and cowrie shells."-http://kwekudee-tripdownmemorylane.blogspot.com/2012/09/hairstyles-in-african-culture.html?m=1

Was thinking about technology in PS and got to Oireck and wanted to draw Oireck clothing and heeerre we are with my nasty color choices

Oireck are considered one of the barbarian races because they’re isolationist adjacent and people are terrified of them so nobody actually knows shit about them and they like it that way. They don’t have long range communication technology, major medical facilities, or a military arsenal so they probably wouldn’t be considered civilized by “civil” society anyway, but they are still fourth leading in magical abilities.

Their specialty is in plant matter, being the species spawned from the “tree” element they have an innate sense for the organisms that other species do not. That also means that pretty much do is plant related.

How all that relates to clothing is because they use plant fiber and dye for a good majority of it. Ornaments like earrings and beads are made with wood then most everything else is animal related. (Being very big on the “nothing goes to waste” way of thinking they use just about everything.) They’re also big on body painting but I forgot that while drawing.

Also not shown is the fact they actually like ostentatious displays and a lot of their crap comes in elegantly painted robes and things. Just nothing they can’t whip out of in a jam or constricts their legs from movement. Also crotch and chest aren’t necessarily wrapped because all their bits are naturally covered.

STORY:
The Saint Benedict Medal is a Catholic sacramental medal containing symbols and text related to the life of Saint Benedict of Nursia. The medal is one of the oldest and most honored medals used by Catholics and due to the belief in its power against evil is also known as the “devil-chasing medal”. It has been used to ward off spiritual and physical dangers, especially those related to evil, poison, and temptation. On the front of the medal is Saint Benedict holding a cross in his left hand, the object of his devotion, and in the right his rule for monasteries. In the back is a poisoned cup, in reference to the legend of Benedict, which explains that hostile monks attempted to poison him: the cup containing poisoned wine shattered when the saint made the sign of the cross over it (and a raven carried away a poisoned loaf of bread). Above the cup are the words Crux sancti patris Benedicti (“The Cross of [our] Holy Father Benedict”). Surrounding the figure of Saint Benedict are the words Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur! (“May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death”), since he was always regarded by the Benedictines as the patron of a happy death.

On the back is a cross, containing the letters C S S M L - N D S M D, initials of the words Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Non draco sit mihi dux! (“May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my overlord!”).The large C S P B stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (“The Cross of [our] Holy Father Benedict”). Surrounding the back of the medal are the letters V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B, in reference to Vade retro satana: Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas! (“Begone Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself!”) and finally, located at the top is the word PAX which means “peace”.

Vine Crucifix is a crucifix that is designed with a vine motif symbolize the Christian’s union with Christ. In John 15:1-3, Jesus calls himself the vine, and that Christians are the branches of that vine. This contemporary design adds further meaning with each vine decorated arm terminating in a nail head, reminding us of the Crucifixion, complementing Jesus’ statement “I am the true vine”

Scotland and Kenya's Wedding
In the Kenyan tribe, Rendille, a man will send beads to the girl whom he is interested in. If she accepts the beads then they will proceed to become engaged. Her parents will demonstrate their acceptance of the man by having the girl’s mother place a wooden ornament over the beads. Prior to the official marriage ceremony, the girl’s earlobes will be pierced and she will have some tattoos applied to her body.

Walking Down the Aisle

The Reception Dance

In the Ayie tribe, the bride prepares food for the groom and those who accompany him. Often, the food consists of poultry and beef served with “Kuon” (thick porridge) and “mchele” (rice).

As they leave the church, a custom in the south of Scotland is for the couple to be creeled.  This tradition involves two guests, each standing at either side of the church door, holding a fishing basket with ribbon ties across the doorway.  The newlyweds should cut the ribbons so that the basket falls to the ground, to bring them good fortune – in both the luck and money senses!
