Back To School Tips Master Post!

I had a few people asking me to do a back to school tips/ how to do well in school post so here it is. I’m a sophomore in college and an honors student so I plan on sharing the things that have helped me succeed. Even though these tips are things I use now in college, most of them I also used in high school so it can be applied there as well.

Organization                                                                                                           The most beneficial thing you can do is stay organized.

  1. Get a planner.- I bought mine this year at Walgreens for around $7 but it has a plastic cover so all paper ones are even cheaper. A planner is good for keeping track of when everything is due. When I get my syllabi for my classes I go through them and write down the due dates of homework, essays, tests, etc, on the day they are due. You can color code your classes or just write the class next to the assignment. This way you can look at a whole week and see everything you have due for all of your classes in one place. It’s also easier to add in things or make changes if your professor decides to due so.
  2. Use a white board- I know white boards can be expensive, so if you can’t afford one, expo markers will write on laminated paper which you can get for around $4 on Amazon. I use this to keep on my wall and write the next really important date for each class. So I have all my classes listed on the board and let’s say my next big date in Psych is a test. I’d write that date on the board, then after the test, I’d erase it and write the next important date. These dates should be in your planner as well but it’s nice to have them right in front of you at all times so you don’t turn to the next week in your planner and realize you have a test on Monday.
  3. Buy durable folders- If you’re going to be using your folders all year make sure they’ll last all year. You want to lose any of your assignments. I get plastic folders at Office Depot for $0.39 a piece. I chose a color for each class and write the class at the top in sharpie and I’m good to go!
  4. Notebooks too!- You’re going to be taking a lot of notes so make sure to keep a notebook for each class as well. Mine were $3 each at Office Depot but they have a plastic cover so if you need to save some money get the paper covers because you most likely wont reuse a notebook.
  5. Get a pack of loose leaf paper- Sometimes you have to turn things in and if you’re like me then you hate tearing it out of your notebook. But if you don’t have a problem with that then don’t worry about it!
  6. Use some sort of bag/backpack- This will help you not lose anything plus you can put water, snacks, etc in it as well!

Study Tips                                                                                                               Tests are often the biggest portion of your grade so knowing the best ways to study will help you out the most.

  1. Figure out what type of learner you are- This can greatly improve your study skills. There are visual learners; these people learn best with charts, graphs, and anything that show a visual relationship between information. So if you’re this type of person, to help study you could make charts, graphs, tables, draws arrows between points of information, or watch videos. Anything to help you see it. There are also auditory learners; these people learn best when hearing the information. So the best way for these people to study is to recite information out loud, or if your course has an audio book to listen to it. You could also have a friend read information to you and you say it as well. Some people are reading/writing learners; they do best when reading the text and writing down important points/taking notes. This is the type of learner I am so to help me study, I write out my own flashcards, I copy power points into my notes, and as I read my chapters I write the important information.  Something else that is good for these kind of learners is to make little quizzes for yourself. There are also kinesthetic learners; they learn best with more hands on activities. This can be hard to do especially with some subjects. If you can physically do what you’re studying then do it. If not, make a game out of it. For example, ask yourself questions and if you get it right take a shot at a basketball hoop or a soccer goal (if you don’t have these things use a paper ball and your trashcan or anything you can substitute. Figuring out which learner you are will greatly improve how you study.
  2. Don’t wait until right before a test- Cramming your brain with all the information a few days before a test will not help you remember and only stress you out. This is called Massed Practice and is proven to be a waste of time and information is not retained well. Study a little everyday or every other day. This is called the Spacing Effect and is proven to improve retention and recall of information. So it is best to do short sessions of study over a long period of time rather than a long session all at once.
  3. Find a good place to study- If you like quiet places and your house/dorm is too loud go to a library or outside if it’ s a nice day.  If you like a lot of background noise play some music or go to a coffee shop.

Overall Tips                                                                                                            These tips are still really important but I don’t have enough that fit together to make another header.

  1. Work on what’s due first- Some people think it’s always best to work on the important things first but that’s not always the case. If your essay is due in two weeks and you have an assignment due in a few days then finish the assignment first. You’ll still have plenty of time for your essay. I suggest doing all your work but if something happens to where you just can’t then yes do the more important thing because it’ll be a bigger part of your grade.
  2. Writing Centers- A lot of colleges/universities have writing centers.  If you’re not the best at writing or just need some help you can make an appointment at the writing center where someone highly qualified in writing will read your paper/essay and help you with grammar, punctuation, idea flow, overall organization etc. I highly suggest checking to see if your school has one of these.
  3. Check your email/Blackboard/whatever your professor uses- This is where they may add extra assignments/ cancel class and not mention it in class. It’s always important to check.
  4. Try to relax- I know it can be hard, especially for students with depression, anxiety, and other mental/physical illnesses but it’s important to always take a moment and calm down. Take breaks from your work and do something you enjoy for at least a few minutes everyday. If you need a nap, take a nap. just set an alarm to pick back up on your work later.
  5. Don’t worry about being perfect- This is still something I’m working on myself but getting better at. Last semester I got a B for the first time since my sophomore year of high school and it bothered me to no end. But, I told myself I did my best, and as a person with bad social anxiety I’m okay with my B in public speaking. So for anyone else who feels like they have to keep their 4.0 all 4 years, don’ t panic if you don’t. There’s nothing wrong with not being perfect, almost no one graduates college with a 4.0. Always do your best, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I cannot stress this enough.
  6. Take classes you enjoy- Hopefully you’re in a major that you enjoy so you wont hate your classes too much but it’s still important to try to take a fun class every once in awhile. If you like art, take an art class. Then, you’re still doing work but also doing something you like.
  7. Get a tutor- If you’re not doing as well in a class as you would like, don’t be afraid to get a tutor. Most universities offer tutors who are students that would love to help you and wont be judgmental at all. There’s nothing wrong with getting a little extra help and tutors are often people who have already passed the class with an A so they’ll be very good resources.
  8. Take care of yourself- Overall, make sure you’re eating well and drinking water throughout the day. Sometimes it’s impossible, but try to get enough sleep. If you go out to party watch out for yourself and others. Practice self care and if things get too stressful and you need help don’t be afraid to ask.

I know this post is very long, but I wanted to share everything I could for anyone who wanted help. If I think of anything else I’ll definitely add it later. I hope everyone has a great semester and school year! Good luck to everyone!

Queens of Mewni & Their Cheek Symbol

So, I just thought to make the list of the cheek symbols of the Queens of Mewni for my next analysis (the significance of these cheek symbols). The first column were the image of the queens, second is their cheek symbols, third is symbolism’s meaning I got from the internet, and fourth is what traits I think you needed to get that symbol in the SVTFOE universe (in short, what the symbol signifies).

SVTFOE Card Suite Symbolism speculation:

Heart - people with this symbol are very lovable and has a distinguishing “charm” that naturally attracts people and come to her side. They prioritize their relationship with others compared to anything else and usually let their heart dictates their action (emotional). They are often found as center of the group

Spade - people with this symbol wields strong and fearsome power, even more powerful than normal and typical queens.

Diamond - people with this symbol have the tendency to take the center of command and shoulder the burden and responsibility by their selves. They dress in jewelry and finery, conducting their selves as befitting of nobility.

Club - people with this symbol have the “common” mindset. They appreciate the values that works for the greater whole of society and hates anything that could destroy the social order they are comfortable and grew up in already.

Color symbolism speculation:

Shades of purple - elegance, nobility, regal

Yellow - bright, lively

Pink - lovely, feminine,

White - harmony, power, everything (as it is combination of all colors of light. That’s why Moon said you must give everything if you want to “dip down”)

Skin Care Tips #1

All of us want flawless skin. Women and men. We want our skin to be good and sometimes our skin has other plans. Maintaining a healthy skin care regimen is a must.

What can affect your skin:

- Food

- Products

- Sleep

- Activities

- Water intake

- Stress

Tips for healthy skin:

- Drink more water. Water helps maintain skin moisture, elasticity, and skin tissue. It depreciates wrinkles, aging and skin disorders.

- Drink less coffee, artificially made juices, and alcohol. It will take away skin moisture. Alcohol causes Vitamin A deficiency, which will make your skin unable to combat radicals.

- Eat more fruits and vegetables. Some fruits and vegetables has a great source of water. All of the fruits and vegetables has minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, etc. You can’t go wrong with this combo.

- Clean your pillowcases on a weekly to monthly basis. A dirty pillowcase can cause breakouts. We don’t want that.

- Be more active. Exercising is not only beneficial to the body. It will release toxins from out of your body.

- Get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can hinder your skin and causes early aging.

- Clean your makeup brushes often.

- Wash your face twice a day. One time in the morning, and one time at night.

- Do NOT drink soda.

- If stress, do therapy activities . For example: yoga.

- Avoid too much of sugar and salt. Sugar causes inflammation, and salt will retain skin moisture.

- Take a makeup break. Let your face breathe and rejuvenate.

- Don’t allow chlorine to be on your face. Chlorine drys out your skin. Invest in a shower filter.

- If you breakout, don’t pop it. It will cause inflammation and bacteria to enter into your skin. Do natural treatment like a masque.

Good Health = Good Life

The Four Types of Rapists

Like murder, the act of rape often occurs within a certain pattern of behaviour, and these ‘psychological cues’ can assist investigators in determining the motivation behind the rape, the offenders post-crime behaviour, and the risk of the offender striking again.

The most common behaviours exhibited by sexual offenders have been split into four basic types. Many offenders can fall into more than one type, or may cycle through the types based on their level of maturity.

1. The Power Reassurance Rapist br> Power Reassurance offenders often feel inadequate or insecure around women in their daily lives, and commit sexual assault to prove their perceived machismo and dominance over women, who he typically sees as unattainable. Rarely physically harms their victims, and asserts authority by displaying weapons. Will often apologise to their victims or stay with them after the assault. This Type can often be scared off by screams or fighting back.

2. The Power Assertive Rapist p>

The Assertive offender has a very intense hatred for women (unlike the Power Reassurance offender, who feels too inadequate to approach women conventionally) and commits sexual assault to humiliate and degrade their victims. This Type has been called the ‘date rapist’ Type because they have a tendency to charm their victim before launching an attack. The Assertive offender often wants to leave the victim physically and emotionally traumatised, but attacks can sometimes escalate into homicide.

3. The Anger Retaliation Rapist p>

Anger Retaliation offenders often feel intense hatred/rage towards a certain woman in their life, and will displace that anger onto another woman in order to “hurt” the true object of his pain. This type tends to choose victims that superficially resemble hated women in his life (for example, if the offender hates his mother he may target victims who are of similar age and look to her). This Type is the most volatile of the four and the level of violence exhibited often escalates markedly between attacks, often to the point of homicide. While death isn’t necessarily the motivating factor in the assault, it can result from the sheer level of anger the offender can displace onto the victim.

4. The Sadistic Rapist p>

The Sadistic offender is the most organized of the four Types, and usually the one most likely to commit murder. These offenders receive intense gratification from torturing their victims sexually, and inflicting pain is the primary motivation behind the assault. Victims are often tied up but kept conscious, and the offender usually employs props or devices to use during the torture. Often the victim is kept alive for a prolonged period so the offender can continue to sexually torture them.

“Get Free” as a Lana song is truly incredible. It’s self referential to “Ride” and “Black Beauty”/“The Blackest Day” when she talks about when she used to think she had a war in her mind and how she’s ready to move from the black into the blue. She’s literally saying that she wants to get free of feeling like she had to follow someone else and their sadness and that she can choose to be her own happy person and it’s…….so stunningly beautiful within the canon of Lana’s music. It’s a complete shift in the paradigm.

Let’s talk about my sweet fox child

So I know this has been discussed before in a small capacity (although I may have missed other posts about it), but I want to talk about Lucien.

Let’s begin with the fact that the Autumn court is supposedly pretty cut throat and brutal. To start, Lucien, who, like Tamlin, never thought he’d be High Lord and never wanted the title, fell in love with a lesser faerie. He was going to renounce his title as a High Lord’s son and elope with said lesser faerie, whom he suspected might be his mate. Upon discovering this, Lucien’s father had the lesser faerie executed, IN FRONT of Lucien, while two of his brothers held him there to make him watch.

So, just to preface this whole talk, poor Lucien is probably pretty disturbed from all of this. He fled from the Autumn Court pursued by 3 of his 6 (I believe there’s 5 or 6, correct me if I’m wrong) brothers. He killed one, Tam killed the other, and the third brother made his escape back to Autumn.

So, just knowing how supposedly rare Fae children are because it’s hard to conceive, let me just say that it sucks that all these High Lord’s children basically murder each other like the brothers in Stardust (if you haven’t seen or read the book by Neil Gaiman, you should!!)

“There was a guy I was playing with that I met through high school, and he ended up introducing me to Josh. They had worked together at Guitar Center. It was just one of those really organic type of friendships, where you just meet somebody at a job. He introduced me to Josh, and when you meet someone, you’re like, ‘Hey, yeah, let’s hang out sometime.’ I don’t know how many times I say that and it never happens. Well, this one actually did happen, we actually did hang out once. I’m glad that we did because the first time we did, we stayed up until all hours of the night talking about our dreams and our goals when it comes to music. When I got to that conversation, I was like, ‘This is a guy I want to play music with.’ So, we just met through mutual friends and a good talk, and we’re still going strong.”  |-/

So I’ve notice that no one seems to know that you can set up a Medical ID (and check for one in an emergency) on your iPhone.

So you’re probably aware that when you open a locked iPhone, there is a little icon in the bottom left corner for use in emergency.

If you click on that, a keypad to call an emergency number will appear (112 is the international number, and will link you in to the local number if you don’t know it). You can also go down the bottom left corner again, and click on Medical ID.

Then you’ll come up with details about whoever it is, like their age, medical history, allergies, any medications they’re on, height, weight, blood type, organ donor status. In short, pretty much everything that a paramedic might want to know.

You can also add emergency contacts, so your next of kin etc. can be easily contacted.

And all of that is available in the little heart icon “Health” app that is automatically stored on your iPhone.

You can also put in all of these cool things, and link it up to other health-type apps on your phone.

So there you go. It’s not just wallet cards that you can list all of your crazy conditions/medications on, and it’s not the only thing you can check for if you find yourself in the presence of a medical emergency.

Binder Organization!

1. I keep my schedule right at the beginning of my binder, so I have easy access to it

2. I like to print out calendars to plan out my study in - in monthly view -, it really helps to see how much time you have left until the test/exam, and it’s easy to plan out what you’ll do each day. I also color code my classes, so it’s easy to pick up the things I need for studying for the classes if I go to the library, for example

3. The first thing you’ll see behind each divider is the class syllabus. It’s important to keep it, especially if it has the test dates on it. Can’t afford to forget when tests are!!

4. For my Human Language class, our teacher made guides, and she would use them to teach the topics, and elaborate on each one

5. Rewritten class notes

6. Actual class notes

7 & 8. Before the tests, I would type everything out on the computer, and then print it out and use it as another way to study

9. Our final literature test

10. The resolution of said test, in which I actually got an A, I’m so proud!

TF2 AU where BLU stands for Baker’s League United and all of the mercs own a cute little cupcake bakery and they’re all still brutes and idiots but goddamn those cupcakes are great. The twist is that although they really do like their bakery they use it as a coverup for their operations as an underground mafia-type organization. But most of all, they hate their rival coffee cafe down the block, Reliable Espresso Dealings (RED).

This idea came to me very randomly.

I am being very tempted to do something about this.
