Ever Homeward - Time travel and Lake House AU (Steve/Tony)
During one of their Hydra base raids, the Avengers come across a research camp that holds Loki’s spectre along with some other magical artefacts. Hit by a skirmish, Steve and Tony get sucked into an active portal that pushes them through time and space into different places. Tony lands in Brooklyn during the end of the 30s and Steve wakes up in the Stark Mansion during the 70s. Stuck in a past he cannot afford to change more than he will involuntarily, Tony goes by the name Antonio Carbonell, borrowing his mother’s maiden name, and decides to survive through the war times by seeking out Dr. Erskine, who was escaping from Hydra. Helping Dr. Erskine work on the serum, Tony also wanders around Brooklyn, only to bump into friends Bucky Barnes and Stevie Rogers. In the 70s, Steve finds an older Howard living with his wife and kid, claiming that they found Steve in the ice on a quest. He befriends the kid Tony and senses Howard hiding something from him but cannot probe too much, to avoid an imbalance of the timeline. Things get interesting when Antonio finds an antique shop in Brooklyn and comes across a strange box that seems to have a connection to 70′s Steve through a similar box in Howard’s possession. The Avenger friends write to each other across time periods, trying to make sense of their lives through each other. Antonio becomes close friends with Bucky and Steve of their time and finds himself falling for Steve while Bucky quietly falls for him. The Steve of the 70s becomes protective of kid Tony and learns that Howard has conflicting emotions towards his son because of a similarity to someone he had once known. Antonio meets Howard Stark of the 40s and rescues a young runaway Italian lady called Maria, who borrows his surname to stay under the radar.Through the serum transformation, the struggle of knowing what would happen to Bucky, the conflicting friendship with his once family, and a destiny at stake, Antonio makes some decisions that change the lives of many. In the 70s, Steve finally finds out why he survived the ice and who really crashed the plane when Antonio’s change reflects his memories. Now stuck in a heartbroken future, will Steve continue to live as he is or will he strive to get back to a world where he could meet a man he loved again? A tale of two worlds, two love stories, and endless fates - this is the journey of men who are ever homeward.
