or what makes you feel alive

anonymous asked:

How do you know when you've found a passion, and it's not just an addiction?

I think finding a passion feels like you’ve found a part of yourself. It feels like you’re doing something you were made to do, something you were born to do. And I think an addiction feels as if you are pushing yourself further away from who you are and it can feel as if you’re trying to distract yourself from what your soul truly desires.

A passion opens you up to opportunities and makes you feel as if you’re thriving. You desire so many things, but you know you don’t need any of it to feel alive.
An addiction shuts you in and makes you feel as if you’re barely surviving, that you need whatever it is just to survive.

Mom for a few weeks i had a lot of motivation to work out and now I have none. I'm trying to find that level between working out to lose weight but still loving my body at the same time, but it's hard because since I love my body, I don't have the motivation to change it. Help?

Oh sweetheart, I’m so sorry your motivation dropped off!!! For me, it’s often about finding something in the gym that makes me feel alive – for me, boxing. The thought of boxing will get me out of bed and into the gym, and even if I don’t wind up boxing, once I’m there, I’m good to go.

And you express so beautifully the desire to both love your body and want to change it. I love my body so fucking much, but I also have goals for what I want to be able to do with my body, which involves changing it. It’s a fine line, and a hard balance to discover, but I know you will find it, and I know you will get there.

Maybe try thinking about it in terms of goals as opposed to changing your body per se? Like, I want to be able to crank out a shitton of pull-ups, which will change my body. I want to be able to do certain kinds of flips and shit on the pull-up bar, which will change my body. I want to be hella healthy, and hella strong, and live a long ass time. But changing my body isn’t the goal – being able to do certain things is. Does that make sense?

I am sending you so, so, so much love, sweetheart. You are amazing and you are inspiring, and you can do it! I’m sending you so much love <3 <3 <3

Life throws crazy things at you, and if you’re one of the lucky ones you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the two of you belong together. As lovers, or as best friends, or as family, or all together at once which makes it something entirely different. You just somehow work. You understand one another, you’re in love and they somehow become your partner in crime without a second thought. You meet this person throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. They make you realize what it is like to feel the actual air in your lungs and being able to finally breathe. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something.

Things to do after a new moon

just some things i do every new moon, thought it would be nice to share:

CLENSE EVERYTHING
Your bed sheets, phone screen, crystals, tarot/oracle cards, chakras. it’s a rebirth – start with a fresh slate and really dig out the nitty gritty cobwebs, air out the laundry. there’s a lot of potential energy brewing, and cleansing allows for full potential to be realized.

SELF CARE
like i said above, it’s a rebirth and that means a new you. reflect on the past lunar cycle: what have you realized about yourself? what was difficult? what was easy? what was blah? take note of all of these things – journal, meditate or both. drink an extra glass of water, make some peppermint tea and really feel yourself come alive.

PLAY WITH YOUR CARDS
the tarot is all about new beginnings and harnessing new energy. play around with some fun new spreads – really tap into that third eye. ask what can you learn this lunar cycle? what should be left behind?

I had to go my way. But when I found it… I realized that… I didn’t want it to be my way.
                                                                             I wanted it to be ours –  m e   a n d   y o u.
There are more of them, even more than we thought. We are outnumbered. It’s not even close. But that doesn’t change the way that I feel, because it doesn’t change the way that things are. We’re still alive, Rick. So much has happened,so much that we shouldn’t have lived through. And… and in spite of it or maybe because of it, we did. We’re still here, the two of us. We’re still standing, and we’re gonna keep standing. So, what do we do with that? How do we make that mean something? We’re the ones who get things done. You said that. We’re the ones who live. That’s why we have to fight – not for us, but for Judith, for Carl, for Alexandria, for the Hilltop – for all of us. We can fight them, Rick. We can find a way to beat them. We can do this.
                                      But… Only if…   w e   do this.

The reason I love the line “Thank you for keeping me alive” is that it means so much MORE than just Bellamy standing guard over Clarke while she was in the CoL. If that were the case, she could’ve said it when she woke up, or when they were in the tower.

BUT SHE SAID IT AFTER THEY HAD TALKED.

She said it after Bellamy had just given her a determined speech offering her guidance on what he thought they should do, after saying that they didn’t survive this long just to let the radiation kill them, and after telling that stupid joke about keeping her alive to ease the tension. Did yall see her face when he was finished talking? HER FUCKING FACE. It was like all her adoration for Bellamy was hitting her all at once.

What Clarke meant when she said “Thank you for keeping me alive” was also “Thank you for being there, thank you for taking this burden with me, thank you for inspiring me, thank you for making me feel like we can do this. Thank you for making me feel alive.”

A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC / A GATHERING OF SHADOWS by v. e. schwab sentence meme.

  • ❛  I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.  ❜
  • ❛  After all, you can kill people, but you cannot kill magic. Not truly.  ❜
  • ❛  Impossible. What a useless word, in a world with magic.  ❜
  • ❛  Everyone thinks I have a death wish, you know? But I don’t want to die – dying is easy. No, I want to live, but getting close to death is the only way to feel alive. And once you do, it makes you realize that everything you were actually doing before wasn’t actually living. It was just making do. Call me crazy, but I think we do the best living when the stakes are high.  ❜
  • ❛  You have two faces. One you wear for the world at large, and the one you wear for those you love.  ❜
  • ❛  Everyone’s immortal until they’re not.  ❜
  • ❛  It is as it is. It cannot be undone. So please, be grateful, and be done with it.  ❜
  • ❛  The thing about freedom? It doesn’t come naturally. Almost no one has it handed to them. I’m free because I fought for it.  ❜
  • ❛  I know you can do this. I know you can hear me. Stay with me. Listen to my voice.  ❜
  • ❛  Maybe you just got a taste of what it really means to be alive. You almost died. So now you know what it feels like to live. To fear for that life. To fight for it. And once you know, well, there’s no going back.  ❜
  • ❛  You made a mistake. Everybody makes them. Even me. I’ve made many. It’s only fair that you made one.  ❜
  • ❛  I did only what I had to do. If I could have given my life for yours, I would have.  ❜
  • ❛  A kiss for luck. Not that I need it.  ❜
  • ❛  I know. I know what and who you are. What will you do? Kill me?  ❜
  • ❛  Why am I the only one in this fucking world to be held accountable for my actions?  ❜
  • ❛  Aren’t you afraid of dying?  ❜
  • ❛  I’m sorry. For whatever happened to you. For whoever hurt you so deeply that you see things like friends and fondness as weapons instead of shields.  ❜
  • ❛  You know so little of war. Battles may be fought from the outside in, but wars are won from the inside out.  ❜
  • ❛  Between the two of us, we’ll tear the whole world down.  ❜
  • ❛  I am going to cut that smile off your face.  ❜
  • ❛  It hurts. More than dying ever did. There are days when I feel like I deserve this.  ❜
  • ❛  Death doesn’t scare me. Not nearly as much as the idea of wasting a perfectly good life in fear of it.  ❜
  • ❛ You’re always so eager to slash and stab, why couldn’t you have stabbed him.  ❜
  • ❛  Which is it, huh? You’re angry at me, or worried about me, or happy to see me? Because I can’t keep up.  ❜
  • ❛  Wouldn’t it be amazing, if we got away with it?  ❜

Dude I’m never gonna get over how fucked up it is that rose bubbled.bismuth for 5000 years and lied about it and even though the episode had this whole “You’re not like rose you can be even better” message going on…HE STILL WENT ON to do exactly what rose did. The exact thing. The only difference is he told the cg what happened but THEY WERE JUST COOL WITH IT…COOL WITH RE-IMPRISONING THE FRIEND YOU JUST LEARNED WAS ALIVE THIS WHOLE TIME. Cool with roses choice to imprison her. Never questioning it. We don’t question roses choices in this house apparently. Everything rose ever did was fine
And after that it’s like nothing ever happened except in mindful education we learn that steven feels guilty I guess so then WHYYYY NOT UNBUBBLE HER….LITERALLY WHY.
I’m fuckin exhausted guys. The lack of basic logic and coherency is making my head spin

Someday you will
fall in love,
and you will not
care about what

A/N: Short, filler imagine. Life’s been throwing a lot at me, hope y’all understand.

“So you’re telling me that she’s the only girl here in the middle of sixty or so boys?” Thomas was baffled. He frowned. “Isn’t that kind of hard for her? Y’know…”

“I guess,” Newt shrugged. “I hope not.”

Thomas gave him a confused look, to which Newt sighed.

“I make it quite clear to the others that if they do anything of the slightest that makes her feel comfortable, I’ll have their heads,” Newt spoke of it like it was the most normal thing ever.

“She seems to be really important to you.” Thomas muttered, eyeing his moonshine.

“She’s my life,” Newt said almost immediately. ”I’d fight off whatever buggin’ touches her if that’s what it bloody takes to keep her alive.”

As if on cue, you take a seat beside Newt, waving shyly at Thomas.

“Hi, Thomas,” you smile at him, wrapping your arms around Newt.

“Hi, Y/N.” he smiled.

“How’s the Glade so far? Has Gally gotten to you yet?” you teased.

“Nah.” he looked down, uncertain of what he should say. “I sure hope he doesn’t.”

You laughed. “Gally may be intimidating, but he’s a teddy bear inside.”

Newt spoke up. “That’s only when he’s around you, love.” and you were reminded of the subtle but constant conflict between Gally and your boyfriend.

“He’ll come around.” you replied, leaning on Newt’s shoulder.

“You tired?” Newt looked at you.

“I know you are,” you smiled, reaching out to stroke his cheek. “You should stop fussing over the Glade too much.”

“I’ll stop when the shanks get their klunk together.” Newt huffed, turning to Thomas. “I’ll take this one to bed before things get crazy.”

You pouted. “Oh, please. Minho hasn’t even started yet!”

“You are not going to watch Minho get drunk, Y/N.” Newt stood up and pulled you up with him.

“I’ll say good night to Minnie, at least.” you pleaded, to which Newt nodded and sat back beside Thomas.

“Minho’s the closest thing Y/N has to a brother,” Newt explained. “He’s good for her. He likes to have fun with her but he also knows when it isn’t bloody safe anymore. He takes care of her when I’m not around.”

Thomas nodded. “I can tell why you all like her so much.”

Newt chuckled. “Well, off I go. If I don’t go to her now, she’ll never leave his side.”

“Alright.”

Newt turned his back to Thomas and was about to limp away when Thomas spoke up.

“Newt?”

“Yeah?”

“Take care of her, okay? Don’t break her heart.”

Newt smiled sadly at him “If anything, she could break my heart by simply smiling.”

My friend texted me late one night and was wondering 10 reasons to keep living. This is what I told her.
—
  • sometimes nights will feel cold and empty when there’s no reason for it. live for these nights. embrace them. dance in them. do what you need to feel complete again, make tea, watch movies, write poetry and wear your prettiest pajamas. and when they are over, rejoice because you made yourself feel whole again. you did that. live for the nights in which you heal yourself.
  • words have more power than you think. they can save you. you need to live to see these beautiful words that will come, and sometimes they’ll come to you in the form of songs or poetry or texts or even the words that come out of your own mouth. live for these words.
  • there’s no such thing as a stupid reason to stay alive. think of these reasons and hold onto them. you want to see the finale of your favorite show? you want to wait for that clothes order to arrive? you want to play your entire volleyball season? and when those little things to look forward to run out, find more. live for the tiny things that make you happy.
  • being “something” is easier than you think. passions come across when you’re not even expecting them. you love morning tea? live for those morning cups of tea. buy a teapot, get yourself a ton of flavors of tea. try every flavor of tea known to humankind. make your own tea. open a tea shop. make a tea kettle. live for your passions.
  • boredom is a dangerous thing. I know sometimes you want to lay in bed and do nothing, and sometimes that helps but more often it doesn’t. a lot of the time staying busy will be the only thing that will help. find those little distractions and live for them. they may seem like chores or busywork but you’ll grow to love them, I promise. paint your nails, try a ton of hairstyles, go through all your drawers and throw out old stuff, do 100 sit ups, spend an hour looking through all your music and create a master playlist of your favorite stuff, research things you’ve always wondered like ‘why do cats have whiskers’, look up motivational videos, watch interviews of your favorite band. you’ll feel productive. do anything to keep your hands and mind busy. live for being busy.
  • self-love is hard to achieve and it’s a lot of work but it’s so wonderful. learn to love yourself. stop rejecting compliments, accept them and maybe you’ll finally come to see them as true. self-love isn’t thinking that you’re perfect, it’s knowing that you’re human and beautiful and you have more prettiness in you than flaws. it’s also knowing that yes, you are beautiful on the outside in your own unique way, but you are more beautiful on the inside than anything. make it your mission to finally recognize that you are a good soccer player, that you have really pretty colored hair, that you are your own worst critic and you are full of stardust and fairy kisses and you can conquer the entire world. live for loving yourself.
  • people are not as fragile as you think. you keep watering yourself down and you’re receiving watered down love. it won’t hurt them if you show your entire self in all it’s glory. it won’t hurt them to tell them what you really think. you are full of comets, stars, galaxies that they should be dying to see. show who you truly are. and if people are too fragile to handle it? leave them. if they can’t handle the complete version of you, the you that makes you happiest, the you you’re not ashamed of, then they don’t deserve you. live for being yourself.
  • we are a flawed, broken people. life doesn’t have a meaning. the universe will end someday. people get sad and hurt every day. these are all things that are true, sad, but true. sometimes we just need to acknowledge that things are true, let ourselves feel what we feel, and move on. live for acknowledgement. but also…
  • we are a flawed, broken people but that makes us all the more beautiful. life doesn’t have a meaning but you can make one for yourself. the universe will end someday so we should make it as beautiful as we can before it leaves. people get sad and hurt every day but they get better. live for positivity, live for knowing that you’ll be okay.
  • once in a while it will seem like nothing is going right. it may seem that way right now. but remember that you always, always have someone, in good times and in bad. even if everyone else abandons you, I’ll be here. I will stand by you in your brightest days and your darkest days, in my stormy skies and in my sunshiny afternoons. I will be a shoulder for you to lean on, I will do my best to make you happy when I can and help you when you’re sad. live for the people that love you and make you happy. live for me, and the countless other people that want you to keep walking this beautiful earth. live because there is so much left to see, live because there is too much left to do. live because one day, you’ll be sitting at your kitchen table with sunlight streaming through the window at just the right angle with a cup of coffee and a gentle smile on your face, and you’ll have a wonderful job and a beautiful family and friends that love you with their entire hearts, and you’ll be so, so glad that you stayed alive to witness that very moment.

DCTV Ladies Appreciation Week: Day One - Favorite Arrowverse Female Character
Laurel Lance (Arrow) “I was going to give up being the Black Canary, but… I realized that I don’t know how I could. Because going out there and fighting alongside you guys… that’s what makes me feel alive inside.”

its almost one am and i am barely coherent but i just had a thought

what if at the end of the mcga series we get a repeat of the end of the last olympian

the norse gods are giving the heroes gifts for their bravery in the fight against loki and they call up magnus

and odin says “we rarely bestow this gift but we feel like you have earned it. magnus, we would like to offer you a second chance at being alive.”

and magnus is floored because being alive again means so many things?? he could go back into the mortal world and actually live there, fix up his uncle’s house and make it an actual home for himself, hell he could start a charity for homeless kids. and he doesn’t know what to say so he turns back to his friends and theyre all giving him forced smiles and it hits him

this offer is only for him.

obviously for hearth and blitz and sam the reward doesnt matter since theyre still alive, but his other friends will still be dead. theyll still be residents of floor 19, waiting for the actual end of the world to come.

if magnus becomes alive again, that means he couldnt come back to hotel valhalla. they could visit, but it would never be the same as actually living there. he wouldnt have any of it-the brawls, the feasts, his floormates, the rest of the hotel.

and when he died again, would he even end up back at the hotel? he could be chosen for a different afterlife, one where he never sees his friends again. he could lose them for all eternity.

and magnus looks at mallory and halfborn and t.j. who are all clapping for him with sad smiles, struggling to imagine life without them, and then he looks at alex.

alex, who chopped his head off the first time they met. alex, who had shared stories of her past with him. alex, who was snarky and talented and witty and brilliant, who was staring at him with wide eyes threatening to spill over because she knows, she knows that magnus becoming alive again means leaving the hotel.

and in that moment magnus realizes that he is in love with alex, and he doesnt know why he never realized it before, never realized that he would go to the end of the world for her, never realized that he stared all the time because he just loved every thing about her.

and he knows. he knows he cant take the god’s offer. because it means he could never see his friends or alex again, it means losing some of the people he cared about the most, and hes already lost so many that the thought of losing them makes his stomach churn.

so magnus turns back to the gods, and he tells them, “as much as i appreciate your offer, i have to say no.”

and the room gasps, because hes turning down such a valuable gift from odin himself, he could never get this chance again. but odin nods, smiling, like he knew all along that magnus would say no.

and the moment magnus goes back to his friends theyre all swarming him, asking why he turned the gods down, why didnt he take the chance to be alive again? and alex is standing outside of the group, still staring at him in shock, and magnus cant take it anymore, he breaks free of the group and wraps alex in the biggest hug he could manage.

they stay like that for what feels like ages, like theyre the only two people left in the world, holding each other in silence, until alex breaks it. “why?”

“because i dont want to ever lose you,” magnus whispers back. “i couldnt take the chance.”

and alex is just so overwhelmed with emotion, at the idea that someone would turn down the gods because of her, that she starts to cry, and magnus is crying too because he knows, he knows why alex is crying, and their friends all give them the biggest group hug with tears of their own and they all stay there, with the weight of the world finally eased off of their shoulders, and the gods are faced with a heartbreakingly beautiful display of mortal friendship and feelings, the reason why magnus turned down the chance to live again

and im tearing up over this because magnus loves people, he loves his friends and family and he will never ever let them go

the really cool thing about being alive is you have so much control over who you are. you wanna cut off your all your hair? awesome, go for it. you wanna feel like a princess? guess what! you are! you wanna be a morning person? set your alarm and make some coffee, babe. you wanna be a night owl? sweet! stay up all night making art. you wanna learn a new language? the internet’s got you, don’t worry. you have the power to make whatever changes you want in your life. this story is yours, so go out there and write it.

i feel pretty empty rn. i’m not sure if it’s all in my head and i just need good sleep or what but i feel lonely and it sucks. i know that makes no sense to you because you see that i’m constantly surrounded by people but it’s more like i feel as if i don’t have any friends to talk to anymore about anything. all my emotions and problems ive had lately have been just sitting inside me eating me alive as they continue to pile up. yes i have you guys and other friends but i don’t feel secure . i don’t feel like any of those friends really know me and i hardly trust anyone anymore. maybe it’s my own fault for being so closed off to the world because of my fears. either way i hope i can find a comfortable place for myself soon.

And that’s what I thought love was like: perfect.
It isn’t.
I thought love was supposed to make you feel like you’re invincible.
It doesn’t.

Love’s a wreck. It’s not like what they show you in movies or  pop songs. It’s terrible.

But why am I still waiting for the one?
Because even if love doesn’t make me feel invincible, it makes me feel alive. Those short, flashes of brilliance and happiness makes me feel like everything’s worth it.
