Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

  1. The animation is absolutely beautiful. Seriously. It’s so vivid and clear. It really is some of the best work I’ve ever watched.
  2. Ledo, the protagonist, is taken from his world and has to learn a new language, a new way of living, how to understand emotions and the basis of human nature. It’s a journey worth watching.
  3. There are a lot of conflicting points of view between the characters.
  4. It shows that sometimes its necessary to take a leap of faith and trust.
  5. The basis of the show is set in a futuristic world, where humanity has split itself two. Some went to space and others stayed and endured on Earth - which is now a planet without landmass.
  6. It calls into question the ethics of playing with genetics. It calls into question basic morality.
  7. There is some amazing technology.
  8. It’s about finding your own purpose and highlights the resourcefulness and endurance of the human race.
  9. The ‘enemy’ is a creepy squid thing and when it’s true identity is revealed you’ll be as shocked, horrified and confused as Ledo.
  10. Because it’s just a beautiful show with a great plot.
