Fairy Tail Chapter 527: August Was Really a...

Okay, okay, so the latest chapter of Fairy Tail has just been released, and there’s been an uproar over it.  Mostly around the fact that August just disappeared.

Okay, from what we know, August is the strongest Spriggan of the Alvarez Empire, and the child of Zeref and Mavis.  As such, he’s suppose to hold immense power.  And in this latest chapter, he we about to destroy Magnolia, but was stopped when he saw Mavis.  The moment he saw Mavis, he disappeared.

Now, this made me stop and think about why that would happened.  I doubt it was just a “Get Out of Plot Free” card.

In fact, I have reason to believe that it isn’t.

It was after I finished the chapter that I remembered something.  Something that August himself had stated shortly after Larcade was introduced, and we all assumed that he was Zeref and Mavis’s child.

Now, we all assumed at the time when Mashima made us believe that Larcade was Zeref and Mavis’s child that Mavis would have to face off against Arcade at some point.

However, we thought it was going to be a fight, or an act of love that would calm Larcade down.  That is until we discovered that Larcade was actually one of Zeref’s Demons, and was destroyed by his creator.

When the truth of August came out, we assumed that Mavis and August would face off, or Mavis would show August love to calm him down.

However, that was not the case in this chapter.

August was defeated by Mavis, but here is where I believe that it is not a “Get Out of Plot Free” card that Mavis defeated August just by looking at him.  There’s something else going on right here.

When August was about to make Magnolia disappear, Mavis looked up to see what was causing this disaster.

She looked up and saw August.  And the moment she did, August stopped.  Look at the second to last panel.

Now look at the very next page.

August sees that Mavis is looking at him.  She sees him.  She’s aware of him.  The moment he started disappearing was when she saw him.

Now why is this important?

To answer that question, we need to remember this character:

That’s right.  Zera from “Fairy Tail Zero”.

Now, why do we need to remember Zera?  Well, I’ll tell you, because she’s very important right now.

Or rather, we need to remember what Zera was.

As revealed at the end of Fairy Tail Zero, the Zera that we knew going on the adventures with Mavis was an illusion that Mavis’s subconscious created.  The real Zera died during Blue Skull’s raid on Red Lizard, but Mavis’s subconscious conjured up an illusion of Zera that only she could see and hear.

Now, normally, Mavis’s illusions could not be touched when she conjured them up consciously.

Zera was a special illusion in that Mavis could see, hear and she could touch, because she was created from Mavis’s subconscious.

Now, what does all this have to do with August?  Well, I’ll tell you.

Remember that Zera couldn’t remain with Mavis after she had discovered that she was an illusion she had created?  Well, the moment that happened, Zera disappeared.

The moment Mavis saw August up in the sky, he disappeared.  And as she was making her way to the guild hall again, he appeared behind her as a little boy, only to disappear again as she turned around.

I have reason to believe that August is actually an illusion conjured up by Mavis’s subconscious.

There are several things I can point to that would support this theory: August having memories of his mother and father even as a baby, being smart for his age, and even being born with a lot of Magic Power.  All of that does not sound like a typical wizard in the Fairy Tail series.  I understand that Mavis and Zeref are powerful, but I don’t think even an offspring of their’s (if they did have one) would have the same traits listed above that August does.

Very suspicious.

Of course, you could say that this poetic license.  A little something to give intrigue to the character.

But the biggest piece of evidence to support the theory that August is an illusion is none other than Zeref himself, and here’s why.

For one, he himself claimed that he has no children.  August never told him when they met, so Zeref doesn’t know that August is his child.

He also said this with certainty.

This also tells me something else.

Zeref says that he has no children, and from what we saw with Mavis and Zeref’s first kiss, is that that’s all they did.  They just kissed, nothing more.  They couldn’t have had any further relation with each other because Mavis died the moment they kissed.

And from what we’ve seen, Mavis is unaware of August up until the moment she see him.  That was their first and only interaction.

But here’s the biggest piece of evidence.

Zeref’s Curse kills anything that touches him or comes close to him.

Everything except ILLUSIONS that is.  Illusions are immune to Zeref’s Curse.

And the proof is right in Fairy Tail Zero.

Now the reason that Zeref couldn’t touch these illusions is because they were consciously created by Mavis.

However, as seen with Zera, she could be touched because she was a subconscious illusion.

What does this have to do with August?

This panel is the final piece of evidence.

Zeref and August are holding hands, and Zeref’s Curse has no effect on August whatsoever.  And August could walk close to Zeref and not be effected by his Curse.  AND this is all before Zeref had gained control over his Curse of Contradictory.

If August was flesh and blood, regardless of how powerful he was, Zeref’s Curse would’ve killed him instantly.  Or at the very least, Zeref would’ve told him to stay away from him.

But neither happened to him.  He was able to get close to Zeref and not succumb to his Curse.

Only illusions are immune to Zeref’s Curse.

Which is why I believe that August is actually an illusion that Mavis’s subconscious conjured up.

This is why only Mavis could defeat him.  He was an illusion created from her subconscious, and she had to become aware of him in order for him to disappear.  Just like with Zera.

At least, that’s what I theorize.

We’ll just have to wait and see if this is indeed the case.

Have a Good Day, Everyone!  :D

And basically anything Saras_girl on a03 writes is like a gold standard.~ I might make a more indepth list when I actually compile all the ones I’ve read (theres a lot oh god) but these are goods!

So I saw a post about how James Potter would never grow old and had an overwhelming feeling of “FIGHT ME”, and then I realized that the fandom never talks about what it would be like if he grew old, they just say they’re sad he didn’t…so here are elderly James Potter headcanons.

  • He’s super, super vivacious. It’s like he never ages except he clearly does because hair is gray and he has a cane and has some back problems. But he never loses his zest for life.
  • He goes to equality protests with the rest of the Marauders (which DOES include Lily) all the time, and tells the leaders that “he’ll hit anyone with a cane”.
  • Which he would, because he has
  • He fantasized about getting a sword installed in the cane. He once spent twenty minutes looking up places to do that, only to have Lily confront him later with a “please get me a sword, too”
  • So he did, and sometimes they do battles in the front yard until something happens to someone’s back.
  • James is that old guy that goes to quidditch matches all the time. The Chudley Cannons are in town? Whup, let’s go. He has this thing where he screams at the teams and waves his cane and the players never mind because it’s just like “it’s that Potter fellow again”
  • Whenever he sees teams, he’ll make them sign two things: his apparel for them and a shirt that he will intentionally buy the week before and keep the receipt so he can prove he saw them recently.
  • He and Sirius have a thing where they’re in contest for “coolest grandparents”, and he wants to prove that he really is the coolest by having a shirt he bought “last week, my clone, see?
  • He always calls James his clone because the two of them find it hilarious, and then he asks James about the Marauders and James will tell him stories
  • He has inside jokes with all his grandkids.
  • Him and Lily Luna have a contest to see who can unintentionally wreck the Potters’ front yard the most because they both kill every growing thing (but they try!), so whenever he greets her, he says, “wreck any yards recently?”
  • Albus Severus is almost done memorizing the key sections of Hogwarts: A History so James and Albus have battles with memorized sections of Hogwarts: A History against Quidditch Through the Ages. They always have some joking talk about it when Albus arrives so they can both get their game up.
  • They like to do weird accents as they do them, as well.
  • Harry records all of these and sends them to Hermione and Ron because “hey look, Hermione, someone’s actually reading Hogwarts: A History
  • James’ messy hair never balds, it only goes gray.
  • Although he HAS suggested to Lily that he follow in his father’s footsteps an make a magical hair dye: one for Lily and him to share, because she’s graying too. It’s very visible since she almost never puts her hair up.
  • She laughs and says she’d rather him share with Sirius.
  • The people at the Muggle grocery store love him, because he sits there and tells all his wizarding stories for hours and no one can tell if he’s serious or not, but he’s such a good storyteller that it doesn’t matter.
  • Whenever Harry and his kids come over he tries to help Lily bake something. It always turns out to be a disaster, but it always means he has a new story to tell them.
  • He gives the grandkids gifts every time they visit. The real question is who will get a prank gift and who gets a real gift.
  • He does a similar thing with candy dishes by filling all of them with Bertie Botts.
  • He still rides out on his broom whenever he can.
  • He has an old leather recliner. Because yes, of course he does.
  • The Marauders meet up every week. They talk and they do projects and basically are an entourage at this point.
  • Remus decided to grow a beard, which ends up looking like a few silly little wisps on his chin that bother all of them. Peter one day comments about how easy it would be to get rid of it in his sleep and so Sirius and James create a plan to hack it off
  • (a plan that never works, because Lily tells him the next day and Remus decides to cut it off before Sirius and James can)
  • James and Lily talk every single night and spend time together every single day. They never, ever run out of things to talk about.
  • They have a chore rotation.
  • Every night, before they go to sleep, he makes tea for Lily and himself (she likes chamomile with honey, his favorite changes every week). It’s the one thing he can cook besides Indian food, they food he grew up with, without entirely messing it up.
  • He goes to sleep at nine thirty so he can get sleep and have a great day tomorrow, too, because he learned that you CAN be too tired to enjoy life, and he doesn’t want to waste a minute of it.
  • He focuses a lot on experiences and friendships and relationships now, and he feels so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing people that he loves, especially after the war.
  • He went to treatment for PTSD after it was over. Harry had to, too, but there are nights when Harry wakes up screaming and James and Lily are there to comfort him and calm him down because they know what it’s like and they love him more than anything else in the world.
  • James Potter lives a beautiful life as an older man and no one can tell me otherwise.

anonymous asked:

what level of specificity would you recommend in naming diagnoses in novels? would you say you run the risk of dating your story if you give your character a label that soon goes out of use (like ddnos in the dsm 4 becoming osdd in the dsm 5)? especially in stories that are meant to be in the far future or an alternate universe. is it better to avoid clinical wording to lessen the chance of it becoming obsolete in a few years? or does the value of explicit representation outweigh that?

This is a interesting question! There’s a couple of ways to go about this:

1. Don’t name any kind of diagnosis at all; let readers draw that conclusion.

This is my least favorite, because I personally think naming the disorder is important for representation. If you choose this one, I recommend really going out of your way to clearly portray the symptoms.

2. Use the real name, even if it’s anachronous / doesn’t fit your setting.

“The wizard has panic disorder and agoraphobia, so they never leave their tower.”

3. Use the real name, but only on a meta / narrator level.

“In another world, her affliction would be called depression, but they had no name for it here.”

4. Modify existing names to try to convey the same meaning while sounding right for your setting.

The healer shakes their head gravely. “He has a disorder of the personality that makes him dependent on others. It is not something a potion can cure.”

(Dependent personality disorder)

5. Use fancier-sounding existing names.

“I’m so worried about her, Father. Do you think it could be dysthymia?”

(Persistent Depressive Disorder)

6. Use historical names if your story is in the past. Be careful with this one though - some of the historical terms can be problematic.

Alex Example takes a deep breath before confessing to Lord Winston, “I think I have manic depression, just as my mother did.”

(Bipolar or related disorders)

7. Make up a name and describe its symptoms enough that readers understand what you’re saying.

The seer peers at Alex Example before saying, “The Curse of the Soldier is upon you.”

Alex Example frowns. “But how can I have it? I’ve never been on a battlefield.”

The seer smiles sadly. “War is not the only horror that can bring the curse. The tragedies you’ve been through are haunting you.”

(PTSD)

8. Make up names and link them to the current diagnosis if your story is in the future.

“I’ve got severe neural psychosis.”

“What’s that again? I don’t know psychobabble.”

“Used to be called schizophrenia.”

Hope that helps!

Followers, can you think of other ways to include a diagnosis in your non-modern stories?

”They couldn’t keep me company as humans, so they kept me company as animals.”
  • Remus says this devoid of emotion, but he remembers
  • So, of course, in first year, October, when Remus disappeared for the first full moon, all the Marauders are very, very curious.
  • Because Remus was a very quiet boy, and no one talks to him really very much. But the moment he disappeared, the three boys are intrigued.
  • James, really, is very concerned. “But, Sirius, what if he got lost in the castle and is rotting in a cupboard somewhere?” (They know he gets out of bed at night to explore. He really is better at it than them. They were caught twice, and he has never been caught and it really is unfair. “He’s wasting his talents on the library,” Sirius says often.”)
  • Sirius is very intrigued and plain nosy sometimes. “James, it’s a quest! We have to find him!”
  • Peter is very excited at the sound of a mystery. “What do you think is going on?” he asks enthusiastically. The enthusiasm is why James and Sirius like this new friend. Although not as clever, his enthusiasm is often effective.
  • When Remus comes back, they are even more concerned about his sick mother.
  • But then they realize this a flimsy excuse when Remus’ “sick” mother comes to greet him at the platform, her arms wide open.
  • They are now very perplexed.
  • When the new term begins, they become the Four Marauders when Remus comes to the rescue in a story involving a tractor (a muggle convention Peter had snuck into school somehow), Dorothy Townsend’s knickers, a dozen nifflers, chocolate syrup, Slytherins covered in bobtuber pus and a couple of Hufflepuffs hanging from the Quidditch goalposts (”That was not part of the plan, Sirius!”)
  • There were also Ravenclaws wandering around in talking in Iambic Pentameter, which had also not been the plan.
  • In fact, nothing had been the plan, and Remus had saved the whole school from turning into a giant Ferris wheel (which had also not been the plan).
  • “I wonder where we went wrong,” James questions later. “You flicked your wrist too much, this is how it’s done,” Remus shows them. Ever since then he is a Marauder.
  • Now it is much easier to track his differences, and much harder for Remus to lie. One month, his Aunt dies, then his rabbit dies. He does not explain the bruises and cuts very well. The Marauders try to trust him because friends trust each other.
  • However, when his Dead Aunt Delia comes to pick him up at the station, they realize something must be done. They research, research and research.
  • When they come back to term, they are still clueless. Lily finds them huddled together discussing Remus and snorts.“What is it, Evans?” James says rudely.
  • “How have you till not figured it out?” she laughs at them, but also terrified for Remus because James and Sirius are from the wizarding world and may have its prejudices.
  • One night in November, Remus is gone again and Sirius can’t sleep. The other Marauders can’t either. They realize because the curtains are open and its full moon and light goes off in Sirius’ head. But he doesn’t tell anyone because what if James and Peter hurt Remus?
  • He goes to Lily the next day while Remus is in the hospital. She begs him not to tell anyone, and Sirius swear that he won’t because he cares more than she’ll ever know. (Did he even know it then?)
  • But he remembers the Marauders made a pact to share secrets, not keep them. He realizes James is his best mate, who doesn’t see him as a Black, so why should Remus be a monster?
  • They confront him after he comes back. He is terrified. But instead of silver darts, they chuck golden-wrapped Honeydukes at him. Instead of the slurs, he hears praise for his strength. Instead of the scent of fear, he smells friendship and warmth.
  • James and Sirius are determined they can solve any problems.
  • In January, after an odd incident involving Mrs. Norris drinking Polyjuice potion and running around as Lucius Malfoy starkers paired with one of Hagrid’s giant pumpkins turning into a carriage (one of Remus’ muggle books, honestly muggles were the oddest) they run into an abandoned Transfiguration classroom.
  • They find books about Animagi, and so the adventure starts.
  • They do not tell Remus until they are ready.
  • And when they are, they make the bond to be the strongest friends.
  •  But, as Remus utters this sentence, he realizes that the strongest of bonds can be broken, and Sirius realizes that sometimes and old friend’s enthusiasm might be for the wrong reasons.
  • And as Remus utters these words, unwavering, not showing any emotion to Harry, surveying the three remaining, broken fragments of a once-legendary group, he remembers.
  • Because he knows that they don’t know all the jokes, the laughter, the naive hope behind this simple utterance.
  • Because now they do not have hope, the greatest luxury, anymore.
  • But he hopes hope lives on in the splitting image of James and the bright green eyes in front of him.

Dean Thomas Joins Madcap Curse Breakers

Breaking news: famed curse-breaker Dean Thomas has joined private firm Madcap Curse Breakers. Once chiefly known for having fought alongside Harry Potter in the Battle of Hogwarts, the past decade has seen Thomas build a name for himself in the dangerous and profitable field of curse-breaking.

Having graduated from the Cairo Institute of Magical Art and Architecture with a First Class Hons. degree in Ancient Art, Thomas went on to work as curse-breaker for Gringotts Wizarding Bank for six years. He then spent two years dragon-wrangling in the ancient tombs of Egypt and China, in what was initially intended as a brief sabbatical.

Upon his return to the UK in 2007, he published his findings in the prestigious Journal of Ancient Curse-Breaking, which led to a high-profile interview in Magi-Archaeology Quarterly. This then resulted in a job offer from iconic magi-archaeology scholar Hercules Hurta; Thomas joined his team to work on translation of Etruscan runes and magical pictographs. He stayed there for three years.

It is rumoured that Blaise Zabini offered him a job at Greengrass and Zabini, but Thomas turned it down for the wider clientele and job scope at Madcap.

The Madcap headquarters are located two blocks away from Seamus Finnigan’s famous tavern in Camden. According to a local source, Thomas has permanently relocated to the lodgings above the expanded premises, and often instigates raucous shut-ins on Thursday nights. These events have become so popular that tickets are now sold in advance.

Something There

Overview: Four years have passed since the war and you and Draco are now soon to be married. But as his insecurities catch up to him, he begins to wonder why someone like you would ever want to be with a former Death Eater like him. For who could ever learn to love a beast?

Word Count: About 1,400.

Warning(s): Some fluffy fluff.

Note: Draco x Reader Beauty and the Beast retelling loosely based off of “Something There” (see below).

Draco watched as you twirled around the kitchen of the Malfoy Manor, a sterling silver spoon in hand. In a cozy robe and pajamas, he thought you were quite a sight. His favorite sight in the world, nevertheless.

“One more week,” you sang. “That’s seven more days until we’re married.” After placing your dishes in the sink, you sat down at the dining table next to Draco. “Can you imagine?”

“Seeing as we already live together,” said he, gesturing to the vast interior of the manor, “I quite easily can.”

You nudged him with your elbow. “It’s still not the same. Soon, we’ll be Mr. and Mrs. Draco Malfoy.” You paused. “Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”

Although he replied with a nod, Draco couldn’t help but frown at the sound of his last name. What was once a word he flaunted about and held to the highest esteem had turned into a scarlet letter after the Second Wizarding War.

He furrowed his eyebrows, dragging his spoon along the rim of his bowl. Soon, you would bear the name Malfoy. Malfoy. A name tarnished and sent to Azkaban and back as nothing more than a patch on his parents’ clothing.

And the more he thought about it, the more Draco realized that wasn’t a burden he wanted to share with you.
__________

A day passed and Draco still had an unsettling feeling in his stomach. It wasn’t uncommon for him to wear long-sleeved shirts, but now he could hardly bare glancing at his Dark Mark.

Is this what being a Malfoy meant?

“Draco,” you said, climbing into the bed as you stared at his back, “what’s the matter?”

He tucked his hand under a pillow. “Nothing, love. Just tired, is all.”

“I don’t believe you.” He felt the mattress shift ever so slightly as you drew nearer to him. “Before all else, Draco, I am your friend. Before being your fiancée, your girlfriend, your anything– I’m still just your best friend.” You peered over at him, his eyes focused on the wall. “So why on earth would you expect me to believe that lie?”

Sighing, Draco turned on his other side to face you, propping himself up on his arm. He noticed the way you scrunched your nose in concern, a wrinkle appearing between your eyebrows.

“Please, tell me what’s wrong, babe,” you pleaded. Your face softened as you examined his tired eyes, bringing your hand to brush against the cold skin of his face. “Is it the wedding? Are we going into this too soon?”

“No, of course not. It’s not–” He took a deep breath, unsure of what he wanted to say. Draco captured your hand in his, pulling it near his chest. He stroked the calloused pad of his thumb against your knuckles absentmindedly. “If I had to describe you in one word, it would be perfection.”

You quirked an eyebrow, unsure of how to react. “I’m no where near perfect, but– Don’t try to change the subject.”

He let out an indignant chuckle. “I wasn’t finished. I only meant…Just look at yourself and then look at me.”

“I see a witch and a wizard.”

“Funny,” said Draco with a straight face. “But really look. Because when I look at you, I see a compassionate, intelligent woman who fights for what’s right.” His eyes darted to his clothed forearm, the black mark almost visible through his white night shirt. “When I look at myself, I see is a monster. A beast. A coward, at best.”

You stayed silent, Draco’s hand still in yours. “I think your perception is tainted,” you said, withdrawing your hand from his to gently push back at his sleeve. He caught sight of a sliver of his Dark Mark, causing him to wince. Draco saw you reaching for a black marker next to your journal on the nightstand.

You uncapped it, taking hold of his hand.

“What are you–”

You silenced him with a brief kiss on the lips. You sat up and moved his arm onto your lap. “When I see you, Draco, I see someone who shouldn’t be defined by their mistakes.”

Magic and Rules

It may be extremely easy to just put magic into a story you’re creating, or explain away things with the excuse of “magic.”  But if that is how magic is handled in your world, readers are going to find major plot holes in your story.  Magic needs rules and guidelines, even in stories where it’s not in the foreground.  Without rules, magic could be the solution to all, or you end overpowering a character because he has no restrictions on how he can use his magic.

But where do you start when setting ground rules for how and when magic can be used?  My goal in this post is to give you some ideas while you map out your world of magic.

Who can learn magic? Is magic a thing that all people can learn, or certain people who have a knack for it?  Is magic something that can be learned at all?  Perhaps it’s only readily available for those who are born with it, such as the wizards in Harry Potter.  Or magic is contained in things, such as charms, amulets, or unicorn horns.  People may have to learn how to access the magic contained in these items, but they are solely reliant on items in order to use magic.  Perhaps magic can only be learned by certain races.

How is magic learned?  In Harry Potter, wizards go to school for seven years to learn how to use magic.  Other books wizards have apprentices they train.    Can magic be self-taught?  How does a person access magic?  Through emotion, thoughts, something else?  Perhaps learning magic requires a large sacrifice.

Does the magic need to be channeled?  Once again, using the example of Harry Potter, wizards need wands in order to use magic.  Other common themes involve wizards using staffs in order to use magic.  But there are stories where wizards don’t need an item to channel the magic, such as the wizards in the anime/manga series Fairy Tail.  Perhaps magic does need an item to be channeled through, but it doesn’t have to be the traditional wand or staff.

How often can a person use magic? Does magic use up a person’s energy, and therefore a person’s magic is limited to how much energy they have?  Perhaps they have a different “energy”, such as mana, that restricts how much magic they can use?  Maybe you want to go the Once Upon a Time route and magic isn’t used in excess because it comes with a price.  Perhaps how magic is used is why people don’t use it so often.  Maybe magic is used very often.

Does magic need incantations?  Harry Potter uses incantations, whether is it is verbal or non-verbal.  There does not seem to be an incantations in the magic that the Witch uses in the Chronicles of Narnia.  Incantations are used quite often in the Septimus Heap series.  And there no incantations in Lord of the Rings.  Or maybe incantations are reserved for the more powerful, older spells.  Perhaps incantations make a spell more stable.

Can magic be invoked by using items?  Potions is one of the common ways this is used.  But sometimes certain spells can only be invoked by using ingredients, like in the show Charmed or the movie Practical Magic.  Perhaps it’s only used occasionally, such as some spells performed in the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch.  Maybe items are used in only certain branches, such as Divination in Harry Potter.

What cannot be done by magic?  With the Genie’s magic in Disney’s Aladdin, he could not make someone come back from the dead, fall in love, or grant more wishes.  Food cannot be created out of thin air according to the rules of magic in Harry Potter.  Actual love in Harry Potter can’t be created, but enchantments that cause the victim to have an obsessive type of love does exist.  Perhaps the dead can be raised, as evidenced by stories with necromancy, but it can’t actually bring back the person completely.  Something’s missing.  Perhaps only skeletons can be brought back, or the person comes back in a zombie like state.  Perhaps you would go so far as to say that magic cannot create permanent things out of nothing.

Does magic have categories/a way it is organized? Potions, Divination, Transifiguration, Charms, etc.  Or light, dark, chaos, order,  water, fire, etc.  Or human magic, dragon magic, unicorn magic, elf magic, etc.  And it doesn’t have to have only one way of organization.  It can have several levels, just like when science organizes living organisms.

So these are few things to consider when creating magic.  The nature of your magic may not necessarily fit into all of these questions, and that’s fine.  But don’t be afraid to have long explanations for your magic.  You probably won’t fit it all in your story - in fact, you’ll want to be careful how you incorporate magic rules as you don’t want to infodump on your readers - but having the rules there will help you create your story and give you some answers to the why questions that might come up, such as, “why don’t they just magic themselves out?”

You hated everyone at this fucking academy.

It wasn’t just that they always smelled like unicorn turds—and that wasn’t a compliment because unicorns had the nastiest smelling shit in the entire universe—but they were so arrogant and had this fucking superiority complex when it came to humans. You were sure if they actually lived with them and in human society instead of hidden away at some prestigious academy they wouldn’t pull this bullshit in the first place, but they still despised them.

Or maybe it was just one human they despised in particular.

When Katsuki Yuuri misses the podium by half a point and finds himself in fourth place during the 2015 Grand Prix Final, he is ready to give up, but Yakov Feltsman sees something in him and offers to coach him the following season in Russia alongside his idol, Viktor Nikiforov and Yuri Plisetsky, whose next season is his senior debut.

Victor would have been lying if he’d said he didn’t find feet erotic. Feet were the primary tools of his and Yuuri’s profession, the instruments they used to dance across the ice, the supporting foundation of their performances. They were simultaneously punished and treasured. Finally, Yuuri was allowing him to cherish his feet the way that Victor had wanted to for months.

Prince Yuuri Katsuki has a duty to his country, above all else (his desires, his dreams, and his happiness included), and he knows this alliance will help to ensure the safety of his people. That’s the only reason he accepts Prince Nikiforov’s hand in marriage. The pleasant surprise, of course, is the part where they fall in love along the way. The unpleasant one, well…That’s a long story.

Everything is going wrong, and it’s all Viktor’s fault. It all started when he got Christophe involved. That was a mistake. But no, it started before then. It started with Georgi and Anya. Even earlier, it started with one small victory that gave Viktor a lot of big ideas. It started when Lilia arrived with her ballet students on the very first day of term. Really, if Viktor’s being honest, it started the moment he met Yuuri.

Even at Hogwarts everybody hated monday mornings, as they symbolized the end of the weekend, the return in class and especially, implied a lot of exhaustion. In fact, everybody except the 6th years, because to them Monday morning meant Defense Against the Dark Arts. Here you were, at your usual seat next to the wall on the first row. The classroom 3C had probably the biggest windows out of all the Turris Magnus, unfortunately you were too short to observe the view -everybody was- but you still tried to take a look everytime. You were on tip-toes, taking advantage of the fact that your teacher had not yet arrived to make another attempt.

« You know Y/N, I really enjoy the view you’re offering me when you stand up like this in front of me, but I think you should just sit down as our dear Professor is here. » whispered Sirius behind you. Your cheeks turner red as you did what he said, sighing in exasperation and trying to focus on the tall man standing in front of the class. Sirius knew his little seduction game made you feel a bit flustered and that was exactly why he liked doing it so much, he didn’t want you to be uncomfortable, he was only joking and you knew it. Out of the four Marauders, you spent most of your time with him or Remus, who actually introduced you to the others after meeting you at the library.

« Today I will try, and please notice that I said try, to teach you something that I know most of you have been waiting for. » said your teacher solanemly, holding his hands together behind his back. « The majority of witches and wizards are not able to produce it for it requires patience, concentration and determination. You probably guessed it already, I am talking about the Patronus charm, one of the most powerful defensive charms that exist.»

Immediatly, everybody started to whisper enthousiasticly to their neighbors, and even Lily who usually was the definition of the model student seemed hysteric. You smiled when you saw her, her dazzling hair flying in the air while she turned around towards the boys, already beginning to discuss on the shape their patronus would take. James had already managed to produce one and it was a deer just like his animagus. He could be turbulent, sometimes even insolent, but nobody could deny that he was an incredibly talented wizard just like Remus who was sitting next to him. Strangely, he stayed away from the general euphoria which spread in the class, playing almost nervously with his hands. You frowned, ready to ask him what was going on when your teacher knocked two times on the desk with his fists. The noises stopped and everybody looked at him once again.

« To produce a Patronus, it is necessary to concentrate on your most beautiful memory, and only this one. Find the memory that warms your heart the most and say clearly, wand in hand : expecto patronum. » Suddenly, a silver eagle flew from his hand and in the classroom. It was both beautiful and captivating. « This requires training, today we shall satisfy us with approaching the theoretical side of it and in the next class, I hope that you will be ready. Just know that it is difficult to obtain a corporeal patronus, and that its purpose is not to be beautiful, but to protect you from Dementors. Whether it is a rat, cat or lion, its power will be the same : the partonus is a shield, a messenger and a protector. »

He kept speaking during the whole following hour, adding that even if the animal shape the Patronus took did not define its strenght, it could mean something important for the wizard. Leaving the class everybody had only an idea in head : discover what their patronus was. The four boys, Lily and you had mutually decided to train together by the lake this afternoon. But right now you were going to eat, Sirius and James led the group speaking loudly and walking way too fast. Behind and standing by your side, Lily seemed to explain to Peter the details he had not understood. You left them silently to join Remus who walked at the back, alone, head low and dragging his feet. He raised his head when he saw you were waiting for him and turned the gentle smile you were giving him back to you. Interlacing your arm in his, you jumped at the opportunity to be alone with him to ask him what was wrong. Remus sighed, he seemed embarrassed and you strated to worry. He looked around to be sure no one was listening and then he bent a little towards you.

« I’m afraid my corporeal Patronus gives too much away, if you know what I mean. I already tried with James and it almost worked, and I swear I saw a long hairy tail before the light went off. » He whispered, biting his lip « With you guys it doesn’t matter, but if anyone else sees it… » He didn’t finish his sentence but you knew what he meant. Remus had always suffered because of his lycantropia, his parents and him had a nomadic life before he came to Hogwarts thanks to Dumbledore. Everytime someone started to be suspicious, they left and the little Remus never got to make friends. Even now that he had friends, really good ones, he was still afraid someone would found out. Taking his hand in yours, you squeezed it gently so he knew he wasn’t alone and you were here for him.

« We can practice alone another day if you want to be sure, you don’t have to do it today if you don’t want to. »

« I think that’s a good idea, thank you Y/N. »

Around 4pm, you sat in the green grass which lined the lake, between Sirius and Peter who seemed strangely concentrated into tearing away the petals of a flower one by one. You turned around towards Sirius who was already looking at you. You felt your cheeks burn a little when he did not look away which made him laugh, revealing his white teeth and his dimples.  He was a handsome young man, really, and you never knew if you just found him attracive or if it was something more. Anyway, you came back to reality when James showed up, back from his Quidditch session. A proud smile could be seen on his face as per usual, and it grew even bigger when a bunch of Gryffindor girls passing by stared at him like he was a piece of art, or a piece of meat. It always made Sirius giggle but Lily just rolled her eyes every single time.

« Did you mess your hair up on purpose again just so you can look like some Quidditch rock star ? » suggested Remus, looking quite amused.

« You’ll be authorized to criticize my hair when your furry little problem will be solved, Moony chéri. » teased James, winking before he spoke again while turning around « Let’s get started folks, why don’t we let the Lilliputian try first. »

Eveybody laughed, James flirting with Lily was the funniest thing ever, especially when he came up with these strange nicknames but you had to admit that for once it wasn’t so bad. She stood up, pointing her wand towards him which caused him to slightly move to the side.

« In fact I’m two months older than you Potter, show me some respect. » Remus, Peter and Sirius giggled while James seemed outraged, but before he could come back with anything Lily exclaimed, her wand pointing to the sky « Expecto patronum ! »

You held your breath just like the others while slowly but very clearly, from the tip of her wand, a bright silvery light started to burst before fading out. She tried again multiple times with James giving her advices and finally, a tall and gracious doe was running in the air, following the rythm of Lily’s laugh. Her green eyes were wide opened, she seemed proud and happier than ever. You all applauded, Peter even took a bow.

« It’s strange, isn’t it ? Your patronus is a doe and Potter’s one is a deer. If it isn’t a sign, I don’t know what it is. » teased Sirius, winking to Lily. Her cheeks turned bright red before she exlaimed « Simple coincidence, that won’t make me go out with you any sooner Potter. »

Finally you formed little groups, James and Lily stayed together, Sirius was with Peter and Remus with you. This way, the others didn’t pay attention to the fact that Moony wasn’t really trying to practice and he was pleased about it. You tried to remember all the informations your teacher gave you this morning, and took a deep breath. You hoped it would work but as Lily said again and again, it was a difficult spell and it was normal if you didn’t succeed on your first tries. For what felt like an hour you persisted, repeating the two little words again and again, sometimes managing to produce a little shiny light at the end of your wand. But no animal, nothing. Frustrated you sighed noisily, which caught the attention of Remus, Sirius and Peter. The two others seemed too busy arguing about who-knows-what, and anyway they did not really need to practice anymore. Seeing your disappointment, Sirius smiled softly before suggesting to the boys to train together and that he would help you. After all if that did not work so well that way, you could try.

« I can’t do it either, you know. Maybe it’s because you distract me. » he suggested, teasing you once more with a grin on his face.

« That’s not funny Sirius. » you whined, a pout on your lips.

He looked at them for a bit too long before coming back at your eyes. Finally he stood behind you, his chest pressed against your back. You were thankful he was behind, at least he couldn’t see your burning cheeks but it wasn’t finished yet because you could now feel his strong hand taking yours, holding your wand with you while the other one was placed on your hip. Your heart was racing and you were probably shaking too because he laughed soflty, speaking soflty.

« Maybe you’re not thinking about your happiest memory. Close you eyes, the first one to come to your mind is probably the good one, focus on it. »

Even if his body pressed against yours and his breath crashing on the thin skin of your neck did not help you at all, his soft and low voice was relaxing and you now thought of nothing else. You no longer heard the sound of the wind in the trees, nor the murmur of the water of the lake, you did not see your friends staring at you a little farther : it was his voice and his body near you that occupied all your mind. You closed your eyes as he had suggested, and with trembling lips you pronounced the two words « Expecto patronum. » You opened your eyes slowly, just in time to see a magnificent light spraying out, more powerful than what you had managed to do until then. It grew larger, Sirius’s hand still held yours and guided the movements of your wand.
After a few seconds, you saw it. In front of you stood a brilliant, tall and perfectly formed dog. But it was not a common dog, you had seen this one several times already and you recognized it immediately. You understood that Sirius did too when you felt his fingers release your hand smoothly and his body move back slowly. Your concentration broke and the big dog disappeared. You did not dare to turn around, both shocked and mute, because you finally knew what your patronus was. And it was him. It was Padfoot.

You stood there, sitting on your bed without knowing what to do or even what to think. After the events of the afternoon you quickly ran away, stammering that you did not feel well and that you were going to rest. But everyone had seen the same thing as you, and everyone knew that your patronus was none other than Sirius Black himself, or at least his animagus form. You tried to convince yourself that it was just a simple dog, but you knew what you saw. Maybe it didn’t mean anything at all, maybe it did. It probably did. Sirius and you had been friends for years and even though he liked to tease you all day long, it had never been more than a platonic relationship. As you kept thinking about this, images started to come to your mind. The day you met, how funny you found him, yet annoying. The first time you sat together in class, and how you spent the hour drawing stupid things on each other’s books. That time in 4th year when he punched a guy who insulted you, and definitely got a detention for it. When one of his pranks hurt you and he brought you chocolate and flowers to make it up. The time he hugged you so tight after Gryffindor won the house cup that you thought he was going to choke you. Maybe he wasn’t just a friend after all, and it took you a couple of years and a patronus to realize it. A knock on your door made you lift your head up, the person did not let you any time to answer and entered the room.

« Can I come in ? » asked the black haired boy.
« A bit too late to ask, isn’t it ? »

Sirius did not answer, he just closed the door leaving you both alone in the dorm. He sat next to you, your knees barely touching, but not a word was said. You looked at the floor for a few seconds before you saw him turning his head to you from the corner of your eye. Slowly, you looked at him too, your heart skipping a beat when you met his dark grey eyes.

« Why did you leave earlier ? You missed something, we learnt that Peter’s patronus is a mole. »
« You know why I left. » you said, smiling slightly at the end.
« You don’t have to be embarassed about it. » he shrugged « But I have to admit that I thought it would be something else. »
« Like what ? »
« A penguin. »

You scoffed, clearly not especting that answer. Sirius looked at you curiously, he didn’t seem to understand why you were chuckling but he still smiled when he heard your laugh.

« What ? They’re cute and funny, everyone likes penguins. » he smirked.
« Nope, you’re probably the only person to fancy penguins that much. »
« Well I don’t try to hide it. You shouldn’t either. »

His last words were whispered in your ear before he placed a soft kiss on your shoulder. You knew what he meant, and you couldn’t act as if the butterflies flying in your stomach weren’t here. He bent down to give you another kiss, on the cheek this time, but the weight of his body made you both fall back on the bed. You laughed as he found himself lying on top of you and for the first time since you met him, you saw a light shade of red on his cheeks. You stayed like this before he kissed your forehead, and then your nose. You smiled and he looked at your lips, and back at your eyes again. Your hands made their way to the back of his neck as he brushed your lips with his own, without ever pressing them together. Your heartbeating probably echoed throughout the entire room, or maybe it was his own. He smirked again when he saw the look full of frustration and desire you gave him, biting his lip and kissing the corner of your lips and then your cheek, before whispering in your ear again.

« I always knew you were a dog person. »

And after that he finally pressed his lips against yours, tenderly, as if you were the most precious thing in the world.

The time the Drunk Druid killed us all

Once the group was trapped in a dungeon with no way to get out. We had all escaped our chains, and we were together. Finally the NPC wizard came to our rescue but the Druid knocked him out.

Druid: Oh god what do I do?

Ranger: Wake him up somehow. I don’t know, try something!

Druid: A spell! That’s what I’ll do!

Druid (OOC): Guys, I’m drunk. I have to roll on my random chart to see what I cast.

*Druid rolls*

Druid (OOC): *Barely containing laughter* Guys, I dropped a horse onto his chest.

DM: He teleports away. Have fun being executed.

“I’m sorry!” she began to apologize, pulling away from Draco. She fell back on her bottom with a huff and Draco felt a smile tug at his lips.

“It’s quite alright,” he found himself saying. Getting on his feet, he reached out his hand and felt something akin to electricity surge through him at the touch of her skin on his. He pulled her up and she gave a surprised laugh as their noses almost touched.

And Draco didn’t want to move away. He was completely captivated. He couldn’t describe what it was, but she was bright and breathtaking. And Draco didn’t want to stop looking at her. He didn’t want to move away.

OKAY, SO. LET’S HAVE A TALK ABOUT HELGA HUFFLEPUFF. BECAUSE. I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SAY.

Here’s the thing; in my head, Helga Hufflepuff has always been a soldier. Yes, she’s kind and fair, but she also knows when a good hex or a punch in the face is the only solution. This does not happen often. She’s friendly and accepting and patient. But when someone threatens her friends, or her family, or her students, that someone better be prepared to have her wand aimed at them. Or better yet, a sword. Use what you know and all that, and while she’s great with her hexes and curses and even some charms used in a way her old mentor would definitely not have approved of, there’s just something incredibly satisfying in meeting someone sword to sword. She and Godric spars every now and then, though it’s clear he’s more of a dueler than a soldier. But Helga. Helga joined the war when she was 15, and she never regretted it. It was grueling, and it was painful, and she watched so many of her companions fall. But she joined for a reason – to protect (her family, her little nephews and nieces and all the children of her village) and to, one day, try and change the world enough that war wouldn’t be necessary. She fought for years, rising in rank as fewer and fewer of her friends were left, and she refused to give up. This was for the children. This was for the future.

When she was 23, she became general. And at 24, the war finally ended. And then she had to find something else to do.

She went back to her village, to the little houses and fields and her family. And for a while she was content, but not for long. She wanted to do something, because that was the reason she joined the war in the first place. For change. She wanted peace, and quiet, and a place to call home. But when she had it, she realized she only knew how to fight. And she was not going to accept that.

She went to find her old mentor, an aging wizard who kept forgetting his wand in odd places but who also knew a lot of spells and had more magical books than she had seen anywhere else in her life (later, when she met Rowena Ravenclaw and saw her collection, she would stare at it for ten minutes and then just go “nope” and walk out of the room). She asked him to teach her as much as he could. What he’d taught her before she left for the army was useful, but if she was gonna change the world she needed more.

He listened to her, listened to her reasons and her dreams and then he sat her down with a cup of tea and started talking about magical theory. Most of her went over her head. She listened anyway.  And she kept coming back. And when she realized how many children he’d helped out through the years (her among them), she asked him about that. He started spouting even more magical theory. And she kept listening. And when it was over and he said he couldn’t teach her anymore, she knew more about accidental magic and magical cores than she thought possible. And she was satisfied, because this was what she needed to know. Something that could help. Something that could change a life, or two, or a hundred, if you only had the people to teach it to. This was for the children. This was for the future.

And then she met two wizards and a witch, constantly bickering and joking and everything in between. And the wanted to start a magic school. Of course she went with them. It was the purpose she had been looking for. It was a way to do what she’d always dreamt of.

They started planning how to do it, and moved into Godric’s family castle up in Scotland. As they decided to split the students into four groups, Helga started to get irritated. She had spent half her life fighting a war, she knew that you couldn’t always get the brave or the smart or the cunning. You had to use the resources that were available. Anyone could become a good soldier (or student, she supposed) if they were trained properly.

She was a general, and she’d take anyone who wanted to learn. She was a soldier, and she’d take anyone who would work hard, because that’s all you need to change the world. She was a 15 year old girl who joined the army, and she remembered what it was like when people judged you for your bravery, for your intelligence, for your strength. She was a 26 year old veteran, and she would punch anyone who said you couldn’t learn because of something as stupid as who you are. In the face. They’d deserve it, for implying that her students weren’t good enough.

@egdramaqueen I said it “needs a bit of polishing” which apparently means I sit here and write another 700 words into it in less than an hour, so here it is. I finished it.
