How much does Yuuri know?

Here’s something I’ve been wondering for a while.

In Barcelona, Victor finds out that Yuuri doesn’t remember the banquet.

They’re in a public place, they’re with their friends, and the situation is hilarious for almost everyone else, except it’s annoying for Yuri P., awkward and embarrassing for Yuuri, and if I have to guess I’d say that it’s awkward, slightly painful and a bit frustrating for Victor (though he probably also finds it a bit funny).

It’s really not the right place and time for Victor and Yuuri to talk about it in depth, especially considering that the focus shifts right away to the rings they’re wearing and their meaning.

After JJ makes his entrance, they all leave and presumably go back to the hotel, where we can only assume Yuuri had more questions about the banquet. And this is exactly what I’ve been wondering about.

Does Yuuri ask Victor for banquet details? Does Victor talk about it of his own accord?

I like to think that Victor does in fact share some things about that evening:

My question is: does Victor share The Moment? You know, this one?

The Moment all our hearts collectively broke because Victor had been pining over Yuuri since before going to Hasetsu. The Moment Victor fell in love.

Because we watch the rest of the show with the new knowledge that Victor was in love (or had a major crush at the very least) with Yuuri, I think we all kind of assumed that Yuuri must also know the full extend of it.

But does he?

Does Victor really tell Yuuri all of it? The way I see it, there are two options:

  • Victor tells Yuuri everything. How smitten he was with Yuuri. How much it hurt when he didn’t call him, didn’t send any signals, didn’t show up at competitions. And finally, how he thought that video was a direct message for him to go to Hasetsu and make good on his promise to be Yuuri’s coach. And how it confused the hell out of him when Yuuri acted all shy around him.

Now, I’m not a huge fan of this option. Victor has known Yuuri for a while at this point, and he knows about his anxiety and his low self-esteem. He has a big competition ahead of him, and he doesn’t need Victor adding to his anxiety by telling him how he (unintentionally) hurt him by leading him on, seducing him and abandoning him just like in the Eros story he tells in his SP.

  • Victor only shares the bare minimum. He tells Yuuri that coming to Hasetsu to be his coach wasn’t, in fact, a decision made on a whim, but it was something Yuuri (drunkenly) asked him. And because Victor was getting bored with his skating and his life, he was glad to do it, and glad that this made it possible for them fall in love with each other. What he doesn’t share is the pining and the hurt.

I personally think that this is what happened, because Victor has learned how sensitive Yuuri is (even though he still doesn’t fully know how Yuuri truly feels about Victor leaving ice skating - something he finds out at the end of episode 11). He doesn’t need Yuuri to know he unintentionally hurt him, because it doesn’t matter anymore, and telling him would only hurt Yuuri, and that’s the last thing Victor wants.

TL;DR: we know exactly when Victor fell in love with Yuuri but Yuuri probably doesn’t know.

kaz. kaz has this been done before: top ten hottest publicity photos of yuuri?

10) An advertisement he did for a sports drink he sponsors which was basically a sweaty post-practice Yuuri gulping from a bottle while wearing a thin white shirt that had become very see through over the course of the photoshoot. Viktor has multiple copies of this saved onto all his electronic devices

9) In reference to an old ask about Yuuri sponsoring KitKat with the tag line being KitoKatsuki, Yuuri got the sponsorship just after his Olympic win. The picture of him on the packaging was one of him holding up his gold medal and smirking in a very smug, self-satisfied way and everyone universally agreed it was way more attractive than it had any right to be

8) A publicity photo of him with his and Viktor’s new puppy where he was dressed smart-casual and basically looking like the hot dad with the cute dog at the parent-teacher conference that all the single mums fight over at the school gates

7) The promotional photo of him in the ‘original’ Eros costume before he started the season in chapter 11 (for reference the costume looks like this)

6) A photo from a magazine that was following Yuuri through a day of training which was of him in the ballet studio doing a split with one leg on the floor and the other completely vertical by his head. It was the moment people realised just how crazily flexible Yuuri was and that was definitely a very popular revelation

5) A promotional photo for Yutopia with Yuuri looking like he was just out of the hot springs standing at the front of the building with his hair all wet and plastered to him and his face flushed with a towel round his shoulders and only some very loose clothing on. The general consensus was that the fact that photos weren’t allowed to be taken in the onsen itself was a national tragedy.

4) A promotional ad that both he and Viktor did promoting gender neutral clothing. Yuuri ended up in heels and red lipstick and no-one on the internet has ever recovered from it

3) A black and white photo that ended up plastered over shopping centres everywhere advertising the ‘Eros’ cologne. It looked exactly like you’d expect a cologne ad sponsored by an athlete to look and while Yuuri thought it was really embarrassing everyone else on the planet was thanking every deity they could think of that it existed.

2) A shot from the first shirtless photoshoot Yuuri ever did that I mentioned in a previous top ten. He did it with Viktor and the most famous photo of them ended up being one of Yuuri in the centre of the photo doing the classic ‘sultry eyes’ look at the camera with Viktor standing behind him with his arms wrapped around Yuuri’s chest and kissing his neck also looking directly at the camera but with a very obvious ‘back off’ look in his eyes. It ended up on a lot of people’s walls or under their pillows

1) A picture from a magazine spread about the two of them that Viktor convinced Yuuri to do. It was taken in their apartment and the photographer wanted a shot in their bedroom. Viktor kept teasing Yuuri about ‘showing the world his true eros’ and Yuuri ended up playfully wrestling Viktor onto the bed which changed its tone pretty fast and both of them completely forgot that the photographer was there. The final picture was of Yuuri straddling Viktor and pinning his arms above his head and smirking with both of them giving each other serious bedroom eyes. All the comments on the article when it was released were some form of ‘holy hell Viktor Nikiforov is a very lucky guy’ and ‘why the hell does Nikiforov even leave the house because if that were me I’d never even leave the bed’.

Regarding OCs: Treat them kindly.

First of all, we all started somewhere and belittling or berating someone’s creativity is bullshit and just plain cruel. I get that there are some OCs you don’t jive with and that’s cool, I’m selective just like everyone else, but that doesn’t give you or anyone else the right to talk shit about them. Remember those “embarrassing” times where you were a one-liner only OC that was probably something “generic” or “cliche” or even a “Gary/Mary-sue”? Yeah, Pepperidge farm remembers that shit honey. No one starts off with some immaculate and elaborate character design, plain and simple.

Instead of being rude or cruel, its better to offer advice as a “veteran” of writing. Give them tips to help them improve rather than tearing them down and making them feel bad or making them feel like they shouldn’t even try. Remember that one person when you were younger that you looked up to because holy shit their writing and style was amazing and you felt so happy just getting to read it? Or that person that wrote with you for the first time? Or maybe your friend that you started off with in general? Having those moments are imperative to a writer’s growth and if you get to be that person they look up to or the person that gave them a little advice is friggin’ great okay? It is an amazing thing and you could literally be helping them become the next nation wide known creator.

But you’d never know if they never had the aspiration or hope to become that if you just shoved their face in the ground.

Canon characters are someone’s OCs. These characters are created by someone, became big hits, and are now written by others because we enjoy them so much. But never forget that they are the creator’s original character.

So be kind. You don’t have to like someone’s OC, you don’t have to even interact with them or anything at all, they might not be your cup of tea. But that doesn’t give you the right to be a dick. Period.

Kent Parson snorts when he laughs, like, genuinely laughs, so he tries to never do it. The only person who has heard it is Jack, when they were younger and they were watching some stupid sitcom and a not funny joke showed up, Kent laughed until it hurt and he snorted and snorted and snorted and Jack thought it was so endearing at the time. Kent refuses to laugh like that around anyone else one, because snorting is embarrassing, and 2, because it reminds him of Jack and it reminds him of spending time with his mom when she wasn’t working, and his sister before he moved away and she resented him for getting away.
Then he met Tater, who made it his life’s mission after he and Kent became friends to make Kent laugh until he couldn’t breathe. He tried everything, dad jokes, pranking other people in front of Kent, he even tried puns, for fuck’s sake, and only got wide grins, soft looks, and pretend laughter. He is not here for pretend laughter, dammit. He almost gives up, then, he’s hanging out at Kent’s house when they both aren’t busy, and Kit Purrson was scratching at his ankle, looking for something to do, and Tater starts arguing with her, half jokingly, half seriously, “You want to square up, kitty? We can take outside.” He hadn’t expected a reaction from the cat, much less Kent, who had just walked in.
Kent laughed, his face was red, his mouth was open, his head was thrown back, and, most importantly, he was snorting. Tater hadn’t expected that. Tater lit up like the sun, and he started to laugh too. And they laughed for minutes, though it seems like hours, and Kent would sit down, stomach hurting, and he would rest his head on Tater’s shoulder, and they would catch their breath. Tater would look at Kent with pride and be like, “I knew I could make laugh.” and Kent didn’t even realize Tater was trying. They’re happy.

a/n  → i haven’t even been on tumblr for a week and askdjjj I can’t believe how many people liked pt. i –  also, I know absolutely nothing about songwriting or music theory, or anything really, so this is me bullshitting my way through 4k words that i haven’t proofread

You associated every song of yours to a specific time and place.

The whimsical cluster chords that opened up Blue Afternoon made you think of the view from your window last spring. Looking down on the busy streets of Seoul from your flat, a crowding of umbrellas had danced to the sound of heavy rain, and you had been immediately struck with a melody line.

That was your favorite part of songwriting – that moment when you finally had something, after having absolutely nothing.

Ironically enough, out of all the songs on your album, you disliked Paper Doll the most.

Even before it had been propelled to the top of the music charts, the song had never been a favorite. The melody line was catchy but predictable, with the most common chord progressions and an overproduced chorus. The people reviewing your songs during the album production had all loved it, however, and they had adamantly decided to push it as a title track.

It was amusing how people presumed the song described a devastating heartbreak between you and your first love. They weren’t exactly wrong, but their interpretation was completely off. Still, you weren’t stupid enough to disapprove their theories. If they wanted to believe that your first boyfriend was a heartless playboy, then that wasn’t your problem.

At least you had never thought it would have to be a problem.

I was thinking about the Chinese pronoun “renjia” 人家 and how useful it is and how difficult its connotations are to translate succinctly into English.

Okay so “renjia” literally means “person-home” and here’s what it can mean:

1. me (the speaker)
2. you (the spoken to)
3. somebody else (who is there)
4. somebody else (who is not there)
5. people generally

Ok you’re probably thinking “WTF that sounds confusing as hell and the opposite of useful”? But no! It is extremely useful if you WANT to be ambiguous/coy/demure/humble and (potentially) manipulate people! (It also codes as feminine IMO within Chinese culture, YMMV.)

Let’s say I’m hanging out with my friends Anne, Bruce, Charlene, and David. David suggests going to see a zombie movie.

I reply, “Renjia doesn’t like zombie movies. Let’s see something else.”

In that context, it would mean “somebody here doesn’t like zombie movies”. I might be referring to myself, or I might be referring to someone else who is there, without actually naming them.

Maybe I’m embarrassed that I don’t like zombie movies: this way I can make my objection known without committing to it. Or, maybe I know that Bruce hates them, but is the kind of person who won’t speak up for himself and who’ll feel bad if we don’t go to something just because of him? Now I’ve covered for Bruce, AND Bruce doesn’t have to feel guilty, because I could have been talking about myself or another person in the group.

See in English if you said “somebody here doesn’t like zombie movies,” that would be odd, somebody would probably say, “who?” and it would also imply IMO that the somebody wasn’t yourself.

Anyway if you’re a person (*cough* like me) who finds it hard to speak up for yourself as yourself in groups, it’s an extremely useful social navigational tool. Some women also use renjia habitually.

It’s a sociolinguistic thing and an example of how languages adapt to cultural needs (or vice versa if you want to get all Sapir-Whorf up in here).

This is only one possible use of renjia, you could write a dang thesis on it and somebody probably has.
