S18 E34 The Sky is Falling: The moment Bernie meets Jason.
J: Oh! Auntie Serena’s friend Bernie. Reporting for duty, sir!
B: Ah! You must be Jason.
J: Auntie Serena has told me all about you. She said you’re both at the same level but that she has been here longer so she has more power?
B: Did she?
J: Your hair is much better than she described though.
B: Ha! Sorry. (Laughs more, Jason joins in.)
This is a light scene, just a meeting. I loved it partly because it was a light and fun one, but also because it shows us a few things, I think.
I liked seeing that as soon as Bernie knows who Jason is, her whole body language changes and she is engaged with him, and curious.
Her ‘Did she?’ acknowledges what he says but neither confirms or denies it, which is good tactics.
And I loved the fact that she laughs so hard about the comment about her hair! She’s a good sport.
All in all this sets the tone for the relationship between Jason and Bernie, and it is a positive and light one. This doesn’t just matter because of how much Jason matters to Serena, but also just for what it says about who Bernie is. I loved her willingness here to be open, curious and playful.
Previously: 1234 Post 1 is also where you’ll find the reason for this little series and the disclaimer.
do u even realize how weird it is to hear any reference to your country made in an american tv show if your country isn’t a western european country, popular holiday spot, current bad guy, russia, china, canada, mexico, or japan.
While I was browsing the Legend of Korra article on TVtropes, I noticed some rather cutting commentary on some of the metalbending characters:
The second one’s particularly interesting. Better commentators than me have pointed out how we think of characters like Suyin, Lin, and Kuvira primarily as “metalbenders” rather than earthbenders. Also given how prominently metalbending featured in books 3 and 4, I thought I’d take a closer look.
Just handed in my masther thesis. :)))) Still have to prepare for my thesis defense in September and start looking for jobs. Apart from that, I’m basically FREE. So let me write down what I want to watch in summer (besides currently airing dramas)!
Just a plan, not sure if I can handle all of this… if I do I must be mad lol
So the battle in Operation: Beifong is still bothering me, mostly because of the expressions on Kuvira’s face when she’s fighting Su (apparently I pay too much attention to people’s faces when they’re trying to take each other down but shush. I am Kuvira trash, and I will do as I like in the name of the Great Uniter).
I’ve expressed the view that this battle is quite possibly the most lethal and dangerous battle in the entirety of book 4, simply because it’s two master metalbenders hurling sharp blades at each other with full intent to harm. It’s like a knife fight, but worse, and odds were that at least one of them wasn’t going to come out of this alive, or without serious injuries.
But instead, Su just gets chucked off the spirit weapon, rescued by Wing/Wei and Toph, and all the Beifongs live to fight another day, with a couple of bruises at most. Why?
I heard all the noise outside. What happened? Where's Mom?
I hate to be the one to have to tell you this but she's the new host for the Dark One.
Yeah. It came out of Gold in a mess of black goo and attached itself to her.
Oh my God.
I know. It must be tough to hear but--
She got Spider-man 3'd.
Don't worry. I know what to do. You go see if the nuns will let us use their church bell. I'll make sure nobody indulges her if she starts a dance sequence. Text me the second you notice any wardrobe changes.
