5 “Cyberdark” Effect Monsters
Must first be Fusion Summoned. If this card is Special Summoned: You can equip 1 Dragon or Machine monster from your GY to this card. This card gains ATK equal to the original ATK of the monster equipped to it by this effect. When your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can send 1 Equip Card you control to the GY; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.
Can Be Found In: Duelist Pack: Legend Duelist (DP18-JP024)
Due the open format of the card game, soon or later we will get new options and improvements for old themes and archetypes. This goes no matter how effective the builds were in the past, as a popular Deck in old metagames will get new cards to catch up with current strategies, while weak themes will get the push they were lacking to stand out. Doing so not only will eventually make even the most underappreciated decks able to show off in competitive events, but long fans of the franchise will have their favorite monsters and archetype have a big return arround the current conditions of the card game.
“Cyberdarkness Dragon” is the new boss monster for the Cyberdark archetype, a small group of monsters with a cult following thanks to their role in the Gx anime. “Cyberdarkness Dragon” is a far more expensive counterpart of “Cyberdark Dragon”, but in return not only is able to equip a Dragon from the Graveayrd like the rest of members but alos has the option to equip a Machine instead. Doing so, “Cyberdarkness Dragon” will gain the ATK of the equipped monster, and if the opponent tries to use a card or effect we can dispose of a equipped card on this monster to negate and destroy it in return. At first “Cyberdarkness Dragon” might seem a small improvement over their old boss monster, but actually has some tricks behind its abilities allowing us to depend on it for more turns than might look.
Requiring five Cyberdark Effect Monsters can be a quite expensive condition to just dispose our entire hand on the Fusion Summon, but has some tools to make it a less expensive setup in mid or late game. Cyberdarks are all about equipping Dragons and in the case of “Cyberdarkness” Machines as well, so we can work along milling effects to dispose of Cyberdarks to later on be recycled by “Overload Fusion” or “Cyberdark Impact!” for the Fusion Summon. This is further promoted by the effects of “Cyberdark Cannon” and “Cyberdark Claw”, discarding themselves from our hand to search for Cyberdark cards in return. Additionaly, the destruction of the Field Spell “Cyberdark Inferno” will allow us to look for a Polymerization or Fusion card to prepare the arrival of “Cyberdarkness Dragon” in response of our opponent actions.
While the rest of Cyberdarks completely depends on Dragons to become stronger, “Cyberdarkness Dragon” will have things slightly easier as is able to equip Machines as alternative. Equipping Machines can range from equipping other Cyberdarks including copies of itself, resulting in atleast a 2800 ATK creature with the ability to negate a card or effect if needed. If we specifically equip “Cyberdark Cannon” or “Cyberdark Claw”, “Cyberdarkness” will also able to mill monsters from our Deck or Extra Deck to obtain additional targets to equip our Cyberdarks with. But probably the best target arround “Cyberdarkness” will become “Light and Darkness Dragon”, as once leaves the field while equipped will be able to revive the Fusion and be equipped with the Dragon once again resulting in a looping setup arround both monsters working together. Keep on mind that “Cyberdarkness Dragon” is not obligated to exclusively use its equipped monster to negate effects, as instead can use other cards such as Equip Spells or Traps like “Blast with Chain”, as well other monsters equipped in our other Cyberdarks.
“Cyberdarkness Dragon” might not be a outstanding creature on its own, but by working arround the mechanics involving its archetype it can become a powerful pressence on the board. Although an expensive Fusion Summon it will become far cheaper with the assistance of “Overload Fusion”, and with potential targets ranging other Cyberdarks or powerful Dragons such as “Light and Darkness Dragon” it will have a strong pressence on the board along its ability to negate cards if needed. Unfortunately due its expensive summon it won’t make an appearance until mid or late game unless we take the reckless decission of spending all our resources in the first turns, but since is heavily dependant of other Machines and Dragons it will give us plenty of time to prepare a proper setup arround its abilities. With most of its mechanics involving our Graveyard, “Cyberdarkness Dragon” might take a while to come out but it will be worth the wait.
