This morning I woke up and checked my subscriptions - as one does - and I saw that gracehelbig posted a video…on a Saturday…which was already strange from the get-go. And by the first few seconds, when she didn’t cut to her “It’s Grace” title, I knew this video was going to be different.
What I loved about this video was beyond just the message that was delivered (don’t get me wrong this video hit me home), but rather /how/ it was delivered. It lacked Grace’s classic mannerisms, it lacked her editing that always has me in stitches, it lacked music for God’s sake, and yet, it didn’t need that.
The only word I can use to describe this video is /raw/. This video was so raw and genuine and completely polar-opposite to her usual content that it captivated all of Team Internet for the entirety of its seven and a half minutes. The fact that she would go out of her way to be this open with her emotions is proof that change needs to be made, and that this is an issue that deserves more attention.
And on top of that, she did not respond with hateful or demeaning comments. It was seemingly effortless for her to stand by her beliefs while simultaneously maintaining an air of, well, grace, for lack of a better word.
I apologize for the long post. Basically what I’m trying to say is that this was the best person to send this message and she sent it in the best possible way. My thoughts and prayers are with anyone who was negatively affected by this incident.
