only in latin

anonymous asked:

Don't lie to yourself you're not a Latina. Any tiny fraction of being Latinx you lost when you thought sticking up for white people was the right thing to do. And you're into that weirdo shit. Pendeja

1. as The definition for “Latina” is the following:
La·ti·na ləˈtēnə/ nounNORTH AMERICAN
1. (in North America) a woman or girl of Latin American origin or descent.(Google)

A woman of latin descent.
Very sexy and beautiful, These women are women of Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Women of Latin American countries are also latina’s. It is important to realize that the only latin people are NOT ONLY people who are spanish. It includes Italians and Portuguese just as much. Italians the most if anything because the whole latin culture was founded and developed in Rome. Regardless, Italian, Portuguese and Latin American women are “Latinas” (urban dictionary)

Definition of Latina
* 1 a woman or girl who is a native or inhabitant of Latin America
* 2 a woman or girl of Latin American origin living in the U.S.
Latina adjective (Merriam-Webster)

So by the definitions I am of Latino descent, and thus I am in fact a Latina.

2. I feel I should mention that even a coconut know how to spell/pronouns Latinos. But it’s ok if you miss spell it since not everyone is great with spelling though I’m not to sure where you got the ‘X’ from but it’s ok. For surely you did not do it on propose and are actively trying to insult a whole group of people by trying to destroy them by forcing your belief onto them.
3. I also find it odd that you would tell me that I somehow lost the right to my family background because of a choice I have made, for I am pretty sure that’s not how that works, for a a, rather sure you Dna is a part of who you are and what makes you, you.
4. I feel I should also mention have this rather high moral code, so I rather do distaste when people who have done nothing wrong gets attacked, and though I may come off blunt and perhaps a bit mean spirited at times, but I truly believe that people should be blamed for the actions of others who they themselves have little to no connection to, and even if they did the actions of others should not be placed on someone else who did not do any real wrong.
5. Also If you are referring to my love of anime, I have to say mocking a persons hobbies is what one calls bullying, which would make you a bit of a hypocrite for attacking someone who checks a lot of boxes in the minority category in life.
6. And ah yes, name calling, very original. Though I do have to say that is rather childish and when I was in middle school I sadly was dealing with much worst someone simply calling me “stupid” in a different language. Though as a coconut with limit Spanish skill I had assumed you try calling me a “bitch” but Google says you said “stupid” so no mater which one it means it’s not very effective.

(Oh and for those of you have no idea what this is talking about its about this post )

I’m so happy to finally be able to finally be able to share this!!

This was my piece for Gold Medal: A Yuuri on Ice Fanbook (featuring only Latin American artists woo!!)

The’re strolling down Coyoacán (the municipality in Mexico City where my mom grew up, and where I spent most of my childhood holidays), with pecked paper hanging over them (one of my favorite Mexican aesthetics). They’re both wearing Otomí embroidered shirts (Victor is wearing a belt as well), which is my favorite indigenous textile pattern, and embroidered wrist-bands with their names on it (a very silly Mexican souvenir you can get at mercaditos).
Victor is having a bollo (they have other names in the rest of the country, but we call them that way in Monterrey), which is basically ice cream in a plastic bag. I added this bc it’s a thing you see almost everywhere, and Yuuri is having an elotito with spicy chile. Because elotitos are the best  (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

I hope you like it!!

The Epic Of Gilgamesh In Sumerian

The EPIC OF GILGAMESH is the earliest great work of literature that we know of, and was first written down by the Sumerians around 2100 B.C.

Ancient Sumer was the land that lay between the two rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, in Mesopotamia. The language that the Sumerians spoke was unrelated to the Semitic languages of their neighbors the Akkadians and Babylonians, and it was written in a syllabary (a kind of alphabet) called “cuneiform”. By 2000 B.C., the language of Sumer had almost completely died out and was used only by scholars (like Latin is today). No one knows how it was pronounced because it has not been heard in 4000 years.

What you hear in this video are a few of the opening lines of part of the epic poem, accompanied only by a long-neck, three-string, Sumerian lute known as a “ngish-gu-di”. The instrument is tuned to G - G - D, and although it is similar to other long neck lutes still in use today (the tar, the setar, the saz, etc.) the modern instruments are low tension and strung with fine steel wire. The ancient long neck lutes (such as the Egyptian “nefer”) were strung with gut and behaved slightly differently. The short-neck lute known as the “oud” is strung with gut/nylon, and its sound has much in common with the ancient long-neck lute although the oud is not a fretted instrument and its strings are much shorter (about 25 inches or 63 cm) as compared to 32 inches (82 cm) on a long-neck instrument.

For anyone interested in these lutes, I highly recommend THE ARCHAEOMUSICOLOGY OF THE ANCIENT NEAR EAST by Professor Richard Dumbrill.

The location for this performance is the courtyard of Nebuchadnezzar’s palace in Babylon. The piece is four minutes long and is intended only as a taste of what the music of ancient Sumer might have sounded like.

“The Sumerians” by Grendel Dark

Today was the first time I cried watching a skam clip because I related so much from the moment sana was/felt left out by everybody on the tram it was so familiar it was a scene I was used her friends just ignored and didn’t even try to include her in their fun. It was heartbreaking to see sana like that.

The conversation with her mom i straight up bawled because it was a conversation I both had with my siblings and with mother. When I started high school I had no muslim friends because I couldn’t connect with anyone because  I was the only muslim girl in my Latin class and the only time I saw other muslims was during Islam class which two hours a week

so most of my friends were white and usually atheists and even when they called me one of their best friends it took a lot of time before they actually (the majority) took me into account regarding parties, food, drinking and boys but seeing sana struggle with having a majority of white friends is such real struggle for muslim girls the constant issue of trying to adapt even though if took a little bit of consideration this shouldn’t be an issue at all

the prayer scene left me a mess honestly I have tears in my eyes while typing this. Sana preforming the wudhu was so raw and real, her not trying to get dirty while trying to get to do bedroom to pray. Sana looking for the way to pray with on her compas on her phone was such a relatable moment even though I try to pray at home as much as possible BUT SEEING SANA ACTUALLY PRAY HEARING THE MUSIC FADE AWAY HER MOUTHING THE SURAH WE HEAR IT WITH A FAINT VOICE WAS SUCH A POWERFUL MOMENT I never saw something like this on tv I honestly don’t know how to breath I never expected seeing sana actually pray even though I kept wishing for it with @imansmeskinis about it I am very grateful to actually see this

Science has proven that:

  • Humans have auras
  • Love is more than emotion
  • Tampa, Florida can not be found on any map
  • Reading poetry increases longevity
  • People with foot fetishes have enlarged teeth
  • A man name Cleon Thomas is stuck on venus
  • Vegans have the best pussies… shocking but true
  • Chewing gum makes your jaw and tongue stronger, thus makes eating glass viable
  • You have a third kidney that has your face on it and can only speak latin and it’s always screaming because it’s drowning in your inner fluids but cannot die as it is also kept alive by your body
  • I’m gay

Was going through my immigration tag earlier and ran into this super interesting study from 2015, by researchers from Brown University and MIT. This could provide a deeper look into the institutional racism at  play in the government and its immigration process.

-  “Even when the researchers controlled for as many variables as they could…they found that approval rates varied widely from one nationality to the next.”

- 90.5% of Asian immigrants were approved for labor certification. But only 66.8% of Latin American immigrants were.

-Latin American immigrants were over 25% less likely to be approved to work as computer software engineers than Canadian and Asian immigrants.

-  “The researchers looked at immigrants who were already on H1-B high-skilled visas (99% of whom have a bachelor’s degree or higher) but were applying to upgrade to green cards. Among that group, Asian immigrants were still 11% more likely than Canadians to get approved for green cards — and H1B-holding Latin American immigrants were 20% less likely.”

So, Tumblr thought it would be cool to eat my birthday post to my lovely friend and dark counterpart @optomisticgirl….which is actually super NOT cool. Anyway, I’m posting this a little late, but here it is! Happy day of birth, my Aries partner-in-crime! You are a lady, a scholar, and a wonderful human being.

A little classic literature and verbose Killian smut :) M-rated for certain.

“Well, that’s a long face if I’ve ever seen one,” Granny announced, leaning over the counter to snatch the empty hot chocolate mug. “What’s got you down, Sheriff?”

Lifting her frustrated eyes from the leatherbound book she’d borrowed from the library at Belle’s insistence, Emma attempted a casual smile before addressing the inquiry of the woman who owned the place. It was a rather half assed try, but what was the point in pretending all was well when it certainly was not? They’d been chasing their tails for days over how to put a stop to the Evil Queen’s most recent reign of terror, galavanting through a handful of untold stories until they landed on an author who was dreadfully familiar and the answer to all their problems - according to an odd inkling Henry had while thumbing through a newly discovered version of the storybook. If she’d known sending him with Killian to the author’s abandoned mansion in search of an alternate text would amount to her reading not one but four Shakespeare books - well, she definitely would have thought twice about needing more information.

The whole idea was starting to feel like ‘much ado about nothing’ - pun very much intended.

spoilers all over: ffxv and the symbology of sleep

I had an Anonnie ask me for headcanons about sharing a bed (as in sleeping) with Ardyn, and while listening to the FFXV piano collections this morning and contemplating all the themes, this really made me want to elaborate on the theme of sleep, and the juxtaposition with light in the game, because this has been in my mind so much recently.

I know many more clever people have already dealt with this before but I’m just throwing in my two cents.

On the surface, there are a lot of references to sleep straight away; the theme we hear first when we start the game, playing in the main menu is called Somnus (lat. sleep); Noctis (lat. night) is the prince of Lucis (lat. light), and the citadel is called Insomnia, literally, ‘habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep’.

Now I find it fascinating, that the original idea, that is also still present in the Brotherhood anime, but which unfortunately doesn’t get explored in the game, was that Noctis keeps falling asleep all the time, even during the day. In the beginning of the game, Noctis is, figuratively, still ‘dreaming’ - he’s wayward but unaware of the grand events that are taking place, and his true destiny.

Noctis’ love interest in the story is Luna (lat. moon). FFXV does not only borrow names from Latin, but is also strongly linked to Greek mythology, ie. their world is called Eos, in Greek myths the goddes of the morning star, or, dawn. Luna is also the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Selene.

According to the myths, Selene, the moon goddess, fell in love with a sleeping shepherd (in some variations a hunter, or a king), Endymion. Being immortal herself, she couldn’t bear her lover becoming old and dying. Thus, she asked Zeus (or according to other sources, cast a spell herself) to make Endymion fall asleep, and in his eternal sleep, remain young and immortal. Only in his sleep, could he be together with his beloved.

See where this is going?

The first major event in the game to wake Noctis from his naive ‘sleep’, is when, while forging a covenant with Leviathan, Luna dies and Noctis is forced to use the power of the Armiger for the first time, thus getting a first glimpse of the power he can possess. The musical composition we hear during the Leviathan fight is aptly named Apocalypsis Noctis, lat. ‘the revelation of the night’, or, ‘the revelation of Noctis’. This is literally the revelation, the awakening for Noctis.

From there on, there is quite literally no turning back, unless you timetravel to the past.

Okay so this is no news to anyone. What I really wanted to talk about, of course, is how this all relates to our favourite Trash Jesus Lucis Caelum, Ardyn.

The name of Insomnia does not make much sense, if you only link it to Regis or Noctis – sure, it can be a nickname for the “city that never sleeps”, Insomnia being a big metropolis – but there’s definitely another layer to it, and that is in direct relation to Ardyn.

The poor man has been cursed with immortality, as he absorbed people’s daemons in his past as a healer, and was subsequently cast aside by the Astrals. All this time, he has only been waiting for Noctis, and he does everything he can to push him to be the King of Light, quite literally pushing the night towards the light.

As the starscourge spreads through the world of Eos, the nights grow longer, until the light of day is completely diminished and the world succumbs into eternal night. Ardyn heads back to Insomnia, to wait for Noctis to become the King of Light, while he sleeps inside the crystal.

The last mission in the game’s storyline, the one where your task is to confront Ardyn, is called The Cure for Insomnia. The name bears more than just a superficial significance though; it obviously plays with the name of the citadel, where you’re headed to defeat Ardyn, but it also holds a strong symbolic meaning: Ardyn will finally be able to rest, to sleep the eternal sleep.

This makes Noctis’ last words to Ardyn so meaningful;

“This time you can rest in peace. Close your eyes… forevermore.”

Having completed the final mission, you have found the “cure for insomnia”; ie. found a way to release Ardyn from the curse.

This is also why it’s my strong headcanon, that Ardyn does not, or can not, sleep (literally, and I touch upon this in A Man Of No Consequence). He’s been kept awake, alone in the darkness with the daemons, for an eternity, until Noctis, the night, grants him peace, and lays himself to rest as well, to allow for the new dawn of Eos.

A continuation of Chapter 199 of The Girls We Wanna Kiss by @queercapwriting , in which Alex and Maggie discuss race and privilege. Adrian is their creation, but Maggie’s brother Eddy is referenced in my backstory fic Joyride. Tw for mentions of police brutality, racism, homophobia.

(Some more Maggie backstory for you @murdershegoat @sanvndsupercorp  @all-the-gay-feels@blogquantumreality @agentalex @blakebat  @mcggiesawyr)

The only good thing about that night at the gay bar was that Maggie miraculously hadn’t run into a single ex - because even National City only feels huge until you start fucking people here.

No - the club had well and truly been full of strangers, and Maggie had felt their eyes on her just as sharply as the burn of overpriced vodka at the back of her throat, as thickly as the tacky pop music she couldn’t shake off. Because almost everyone in there was male, and absolutely everyone was white, and before she realised it she was drifting closer to James than Alex, shadowing him when he went to get drinks and she couldn’t fake the enthusiasm of her dancing any longer. Thankfully it was him who commented on the specificity of the crowd, what lengthy list of hip hop music they’d both rather be listening to, and it was these conversations away from Alex that had gotten her through the night. She hadn’t wanted her girlfriend – still in her shiny new world – to sense her discomfort, to pick up on the sideways looks she and James got hugging the wall together. But James had to mention it, and Maggie’s face had flushed as Alex rambled an apology, saying she didn’t realise, she didn’t know, but Maggie had been too exhausted to explain that that was part of the problem.
