one spanish

There's an apocryphal quote with dozens of humorous variants attributed to that polyglot Hapsburg emperor Charles V. My favourite is a Spanish one: "Uno debe hablar español con Dios, italiano con la amiga, francés con el amigo, alemán con los soldados, inglés con los patos, húngaro con los caballos y bohemio con el diablo." Ducks? What is the significance of ducks?

Oh, it means the Spaniards didn’t like the English and that it sounded like quacking to them. Possibly because ducks like wetlands? I might be reading too much into that.

Basically it reads as something like:

“Spanish is super Catholic I talk to God that way.

Italian is the language of intimacy.

French is the language of fraternity and equality.

German is the language of camaraderie and your peers.

English is garbled nonsense.

Hungarians were horse whisperers.

And why can’t Bohemia just let us be in charge?”

SO HOW COME NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THIS
