It’s Robin again, this time as a painting and not colored lineart. Somewhere in the middle I decided to also give her some of @bloominghands ‘s style, because I just really like the way they draw Robin.
Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) tributes Naruto in Ch.766’s cover page and Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto) honors his friend too, in his manga’s ending!!!Naruto’s hitai-ate symbol WAS replaced with Straw Hat Pirates’ Jolly Roger! Oda-san’s illustration had quite a lot of messages as well:
1. Naruto took Luffy’s place in OP logo and “O” is Naruto’s hitai-ate symbol 2.Nami is wearing a dress with Akatsuki’s symbol. 3.Behind Nami there’s Naruto eating meat and Luffy rammen AND HE DIDN’T CHOOSE WHICH CHARACTERS TO DRAW RANDOMLY, since…………………………… NAmi… (L)RUffy… TOny………… T_T
It seems there is Oda’s hidden message to Kishimoto… When we read in the cover the first (second) letter of the menu, we can see the message “ナルとおつカレ三でした”. It means “Thank you for your hard work, Naruto!”
1 ) It’s not fodder if her character’s never been expanded upon in the first place.
Hanabi’s always been a blank slate both in the manga and anime. Here, we get to see how she is as a person. Which is really interesting! I like, I like very much. We also see how the two sisters’ relationship was built up, destroyed by clan politics, and rebuilt again, especially post-Pain arc.
PS: We’ve had mecha-Naruto, and filler arcs for Kakashi and Yamato (including their pre-ANBU and early ANBU days, which was not in the manga either), and vague One Piece tribute arcs, but apparently some fans grudge Hanabi one measly anime special. It’s okay, we all know why.
2 ) Hinata is not the heir to the Hyuuga clan. Stop calling her the heiress.
It’s a known fact that Hinata was stripped of her status as the heir by Hiashi. I don’t know why some fans keep stating that she’s the heiress when she’s not. She hasn’t been for a long while and Hiashi has not reversed his decision.
The point is moot now, of course. Hinata’s impending marriage to Naruto provides a face-saving solution to an awkward problem Hiashi has created for himself i.e. by providing her a gracious exit from the Hyuuga clan. Societal structures in the Narutoverse is a curious mix of modern and traditional but it’s clear that the Hyuugas are more traditional than most. By becoming the wife of the future Hokage, Hinata regains the prestige she lost when she was removed from her position as heir. Not that she was the sort to grudge father and sister in the first place.
It sometimes gets lost due to his orphan narrative but Naruto himself is the product of a dynastic marriage - his father was a Hokage and his mother an Uzumaki. Hinata isn’t marrying just any man, she’s marrying a future Hokage who comes from a very esteemed bloodline. Add to the fact that she herself is a Hyuuga and what you have is another dynastic marriage in the making.
According to the 4th Databook, the Twin Lion Fists is a high-level secret technique taught only to the main branch of the Hyuuga clan. It’s unsure why Hinata is the only Hyuuga shown using it (thanks for ignoring the Hyuugas, Kishimoto!!). It could very well be a quirk of her learning style i.e. Twin Lion Fists is somehow easier for Hinata to master compared to other Gentle Fist jutsus. She mastered Hakke Rokujyuuyon Shou much later compared to Neji, for example.
What is known is that this technique requires a very high level of chakra control, which we do know Hinata has (yay!). With the frequency to which she resorts to using this jutsu, it can be taken that the Twin Lion Fists is Hinata’s favoured jutsu (just like how Naruto favours Kage Bunshin and Rasengan).
I love Hinata and am very frustrated that she wasn’t written better by Kishimoto (we could have had it all, really). She still has a lot of good points going for her though, as we can see in the manga and anime, which is why she’s my favourite kunoichi. But don’t attribute things that which she doesn’t have/has not done to her. It does a disservice to her character.
