one of the many reasons i love this show

Hannah's Poem

“Today I am wearing lacy black underwear

For the sole purpose of knowing I am wearing them.

And underneath that?

I am absolutely naked.

And I’ve got skin. Miles and miles of skin;

I’ve got skin to cover all my thoughts

like saran wrap that you can see through

to what leftovers are inside from the night before.

And despite what you might think, my skin is not rough; nor is it bullet proof.

My skin is soft, and smooth, and easily scarred.

But that doesn’t matter, right?

You don’t care about how soft my skin is.

You just want to hear about what my fingers do in the dark.

But what if all they do is crack open windows?

So I can see lightening through the clouds.

What if all they crave is a jungle gym to climb for a taste of fresher air?

What if all they reach for is a notebook or a hand to hold?

But that’s not the story you want.

You are licking your lips and baring your teeth.

Just once I would like to be the direction someone else is going.

I don’t need to be the water in the well.

I don’t need to be the well.

But I’d like to not be the ground anymore.

I’d like to not be the thing people dig their hands in anymore.

Some girls know all the lyrics to each other’s songs.

They find harmonies in their laughter.

Their linked elbows echo in tune.

What if I can’t hum on key?

What if my melodies are the ones nobody hears?

Some people can recognize a tree,

A front yard, and know they’ve made it home.

How many circles can I walk in before I give up looking?

How long before I’m lost for good.

It must be possible to swim in the ocean of the one you love without drowning.

It must be possible to swim without becoming water yourself.

But I keep swallowing what I thought was air.

I keep finding stones tied to my feet.”

I Think We Made a Big Mistake

Lemme just start off by saying 2010 was a great year in animated shows. Unreal great. Like, seriously.

What

the

shit

happened

in

20

10?

To put this in perspective, about 2007-2009 wasn’t a stellar time for animated shows. The best one by far was Phineas and Ferb, and maybe … El Tigre (which had so much personality and life, but I haven’t seen since it aired so I can’t tell you how it holds up), but there wasn’t a lot of new stuff that lived up to the top contender.

Also important to remember is that in 2009, Cartoon Network briefly went insane and wanted to transition to more live-action shows or live-action/animation mixed like Out of Jimmy’s Head. None of these really held my attention, and it took airtime from the cartoons that could’ve come out.

We also could point out that Nickolodeon was well on its way to airing basically only Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents forever amen (as much as I love those shows).

Disney Channel hosted P&F, but other than that, pickings were getting slim.

So, realizing that, you’ve gotta understand how remarkable it is that we were getting so many good shows all at once again! It was unreal!

But it didn’t stop there, not even for a year.

2011 gave us families.

2012 gave us blends of story and comedy.

2013 gave us stellar characters in interstellar adventures (also the Mickey Mouse shorts, but that might not count).

2014 gave us surprises.

2015 gave us heart.

And this year? A return to form. What with the Loud House finally breaking Nickelodeon’s streak of poor nicktoons, Voltron keeping the action cartoon alive from the Avatar team we love, and the upcoming Milo Murphy’s Law from the creators of Phineas and Ferb.

There’s also shows like Mighty Magiswords and Long Live the Royals on the way that could just as easily make this list.

So the question remains. What the hell happened in 2010?

Well, I don’t know what caused all this, but I’ll tell you what happened.

Sym-Bionic Titan happened on Cartoon Network’s Toonami. And nobody told me.

When I stumbled on it way after the fact, I thought I remembered seeing something like that advertised when I was a kid. You know, early 2000s action show. I figured it got lost in the Beyblades, Ben 10s, and Yu-gi-Oh ripoffs, and I could at least make peace with that.

But then I find out this aired just a few years ago and I’m shit-pissed. aND MY OWN BEST FRIEND APPARENTLY WATCHED IT AND NEVER?? TOLD?? ME??

how dare you I instantly forgive you.

What I’m getting at is this is a high quality show. Really high quality.

The basic premise is summed up best here:

The three main characters include Ilana, princess of the royal family; Lance, a rebellious but capable soldier; and Octus, a bio-cybernetic robot, all of whom must now blend into everyday life in Sherman, Illinois. Posing as high school students, Lance and Octus work to conceal Princess Ilana from General Modula and his hideous space mutants sent to kill the sole heir of Galaluna.

When called into battle, the Galalunans are outfitted with individual armor that provides more than ample protection. It is when the gravest of danger appears that Octus activates the sym-bionic defense program and he, Ilana, and Lance unite “Heart, Body and Mind” and come together to form the spectacular cyber-giant Sym-Bionic Titan.

If that sounds great, it absolutely is. The characters are well-devloped, the story is front and center, there’s continuity between episodes– everything we’ve come to love in some of our modern favourites. So, my point is … why the hell was this left out of the cartoon revolution?

Well … honestly, I can’t figure it out. Advertising? Not enough cross-promotion in the daytime? Weak word of mouth? It’s certainly nothing the show did wrong.

Why Watch It?

Reason 1: HOLY SHIT, IT HAS A STORY

I’m not gonna spoil much more than the summary, but despite the fact that it takes place on Earth for the most part and focuses on week to week stories, the overall story is very much in the forefront at all times– and you know how rare that is even for shows that do story well.

Reason 2: HOLY SHIT, IT HAS GREAT CHARACTERS

I’ll let you discover them for yourself, it’s too much of a treat, but I’ll just say, you might fall in love. Again.

Oh, and Voltron fans?

We found their son.

Reason 3: This Guy

So, even if you’re too young for some of these, you might’ve heard something called Samuri Jack is getting a fifth season after 10 years … and it’s going to be on Adult Swim.

Yeah, it’s gonna be badass.

The important part to all this is that this dude does awesome design, awesome shows, and if you have respect for any of these properties, you know you’re in for a good time.

Which leads me to

Reason 4: The Animationjfsfksnfksafafsj

Between the lighting and the angular designs, I just don’t know what to do with myself. Is bootiful.

Watch the first few minutes there. You see what I mean, right?

Reason 5: It Deserved Better

We’ve championed so many great shows in the past few years, but for whatever reason, we missed one. A great one at that. If you have any love for the shows I listed, I highly recommend you give it a chance. Who knows? You might just find another favourite.

what pissed me off the most about this week’s ep isn’t even the fact that we got only 7 minutes of sanvers in an episode that was supposed to be sanvers centric and even winn and his girl got more time. it wasn’t even the fact that it was pretty much just another episode of keeping up with mon-el and not supergirl. but it was the fact that when kara was faking that she doesn’t like mon-el she was actually making valid points. she was making valid points about why they can’t be together and yet at the end of the episode they got together. because apparently when a girl says no it just means that you have to try harder to get her. (which reminds me wasn’t the point of this ep to show that no means no?? but like they keep doing the opposite with mon-el so i’m really confused here…) the great feminist show that supergirl was in season one is really gone. and as  much as i love season two for sanvers and alex’s coming out i’m really sick of it. because kara’s relationship with mon-el is inherently toxic and yet they keep shoving it down our throats. the great feminist show is telling girls that when they think they don’t like a guy they actually do and they just gotta think harder about it. like him even though he is not good for you for so many valid reasons.

I was speaking to the lady that works for Make-A-Wish and she said that back in the day when they started the Make a Wish charity people always used to want to go meet Robert Downey Jr. or Jack Sparrow or go to this crazy thing but recently the people that they get asked to hook people up with the most are YouTubers. And I was wondering why and the girl said that because most of the young people that are part of Make-A-Wish spent most of their time in hospitals, dealing with their illnesses, they obviously spend a lot of time on the Internet and then would naturally stumble across YouTubers. And when they have lots of time in hospitals, going through all these treatments or recovering from things, YouTubers are the people who they spend their time watching instead of stuff in the cinema. You know, simultaneously that’s so like… it’s heart-warming and it’s nice and then it’s also kind of sad. But it just really make you kind of happy that a) such an amazing charity is there, doing things but then also for YouTubers, you know, like Markiplier who does so many - he’s amazing obviously for a billion reasons - but whenever me and Phil get to do it, it’s just such a nice thing.

Quotes from Dan (30/?)

One of the many reasons I love YouTubers. It’s also a perfect example of the amazing impact their content have on the people watching.

I love HxH for so many reasons but one thing i love about it is that the 70-something episode Chimera Ant arc, thats basically a huge commentary on war and how simultaneously fucked up and beautiful humanity is, includes a scene where a chameleon man questions if he can trust another guy due to his lack of eyebrows.

STEVEN J. HYDE IS AN ACTUAL FEMINIST:

  • Openly admires Donna’s search for freedom and empowerment.
  • Deeply respects Kitty’s job as a nurse, mother and wife. Constantly helps her with house chores, food and fixing things around her house.
  • Eric assumes Donna will be a stay at home wife and will take care alone of the babies, to which he answers with: “Donna, man. Forman’s just limited by his experiences. As the voice of a new generation of smart, independent women, you need to make this dillhole realize that a mind and spirit like yours has more options than your mothers had.”
  • Immediately calls out Kelso on his bullshit when he cheats on Jackie and is the first one to step in to defend her when everyone else tries to make her feel bad all the time.
  • Thinks Jackie, a girl he doesn’t like, should and can do better than Kelso. Constantly tells her this and is disappointed at her getting back together with the cheater.
  • Believes Donna’s decision of not accepting Eric’s promise ring are right ones and supports her during the break up, even when Eric is his best friend/brother.
  • Punches assholes that call other girls names and want to use them only for sex.
  • Firmly believes women should not be only breeders or depend on a man, things that later he let Jackie know by telling her she should and can work for her own nice stuff.
  • Also reminds her he is NOT like Eric, and will happily cherish her in her success in the career of her choice. He won’t mind her being more successful than him and winning more than him.
  • Stands up for Brooke when asshole Kelso decides he won’t do anything about Betsy when he first hears the news about Brooke’s pregnancy. Makes him get some reason and do right by her and their unborn child.
  • DOES support Jackie’s career, even when they aren’t together at the moment and steps aside so she can success and be happy on her own.
Romance Manga

Here are some fabulous shojo romance choices to keep you warm and cuddly! Enjoy! (No particular order)

Haru No Ride

Reason to read: The struggles the characters face are real. Futaba struggles with her identity, and Kou with his family and self-worth. We get to see these two characters fall in love and get many satisfying romantic moments!

Wolf Girl and Black Prince

Reason to read: At first, I wasn’t a fan of this one, but I am glad I gave it a second chance because this manga is freaking fantastic. The dynamic between the two has a rocky start but romance and reciprocated feelings soon ensure. Another great thing is that this manga actually mentions (and may in the future show) sex, unlike many shojo that tend to pretend that it does not exist.

Ouran High School Host Club

Reason to read: If you haven’t seen the fabulous anime, then go watch it and come back and read it. Your welcome. If you have seen it, then we all know what that final scene was missing. Do not fret! For this manga continues the antics and the romance! Everything from the characters to the plot are perfect in this manga and I can say with complete confidence that this manga has the most satisfying, heart-warming ending of any manga I have ever read.

Nodame Cantabile

Reason to read: I do not play an instrument and have never listened to classical music, but this manga gave me a profound appreciation for that world. Nodame is by far the most unique and interesting heroine I have come across in manga, and her relationship with Chiaki is great because the love takes a while to blossom, but that makes it a lot sweeter. There is a 3 season long anime series that I watched and enjoyed and I actually do believe that watching it might be a better option because this show does involve music, but the manga has a lot of spicy details that are fun to come back to after watching!

Hibi Chouchou

Reason to read: This manga is not everyone’s cup of tea, but those who like it LOVE it! The reason this manga polarizes people is because both protagonists are extremely quiet and shy, so we get a lot of glimpses into their thoughts and wishes, but not a lot of actual dialogue. The reason everyone should give it a try is because it really is an accurate depiction of the struggles of shy love and is really well drawn and cute.

Kamisama Hajimemashita

Reason to read: Nanami proves that a cute face and dainty demeanor does not define her level of strength. Tomoe and her relationship grow so naturally and the special circumstances they are in makes the reader really want to root for them.

Horimiya

Reason to read: Hori and Miyamura show each other sides of themselves that no one knows and they become essential parts of each others lives. They are so freaking cute together!

Your Lie in April

Reason to read: First of all, I REALLY recommend watching the anime first. Our protagonists are musicians so if you actually want to hear their music, the anime is the best option. I would recommend reading the manga after watching the anime if you want to relive the pain good feelings. The strange thing about this show/manga is that technically, it is categorized as a “shonen” which automatically makes me think of lots of boobs and butts, but this show is an innocent and lovely choice for any reader! WARNING: sadness inside.

Kaichou wa Maid Sama!

Reason to read: Misaki is one of the most kick-ass girl characters. She juggles being the student council president with great grades and a job at a maid cafe all while her home life crumbles. Usui and Misaki are one of my favorite manga couples because they truly deserve each other!

Akagami no Shirayukihime

Reason to read: Shirayuki may look like a weakling, but she is actually mentally strong and incredibly brave. I have not read too much of this manga yet, but so far I like what I see, and since I always spoil stuff for myself, I know for a fact that love is around the river bend!

Cherry Boy, That Girl

Reason to Read: First of all, this is a Korean manhwa, not a manga, so you read it left to right. This freaking work of art…I love this manhwa. It has it all, twists, turns, love, deceit, tricks, and treats galore, all wrapped up in fully colored chapters!

Last Game

Reason to read: OMGGGGG. It all started when Kujou knocked Yanagi off of his high-horse by beating him in almost everything: school, sports, and the like. Yanagai was one of those boys who has talent, but mostly gets what he wants because he is rich. Then Kujou comes out of nowhere and with her ordinary, plain-jane looks steals his pride without really trying at all. From that moment, Yanagi has followed Kujou to high school and now college to try to win the Last Game. Yanagi is the true gem of this manga because unlike in many shojo romances, it is actually told from the boy’s perspective and the boy falls in love first.

Special A

Reason to read: This is literally the epitome of the classic “competition –> love” scenario…and I love it. The charm of this manga is all of the different love stories that blossom between all of the other characters. There is a good anime for this show, but the manga is a tad better.

Season 2 Klance and Shallura Analysis

Alrighty so this is another one of those voltron prediction/theory/rant its basically an analysis of some parts of season 2 not all bc that would take me forever but just a few key parts (aka the key to my heart Klance okay bye). So grab a drink because this is an essay folks that I spent way too much time on than I should have. Let’s begin shall(ura) we? (I hate myself)

So I’m gonna start with a very good and very platonic (in my opinion) relationship, which is K//allura. Okay okay, they have so much potential to be bffs its exciting.

First off, I took the whole Galra Keith and Allura tension as a message the creators wanted to convey to the viewers about judging someone merely by their race. Honestly I really love it when tv shows, especially kids shows, integrate bigger ideas like racism into their stories. Its subtle yet satisfying and I really really appreciated this particular scene with Keith and Allura.

Allura is describing her hatred for the Galra which is basically her hatred toward a part of Keith that he can’t even control. He never chose to be Galra, it’s just in his blood. And obviously that hurts him because its a part of who he is:((

Like ugh this is so sweet guys. So as you know from the title of this, I don’t ship K//allura at all, but this scene was very special to me in a much different way than how I feel from a romantic interaction. Like this is a genuine moment between two characters that are haunted by the same group, the Galra. Keith is part Galra, he has a part of the enemy inside of him which is probably causing inner turmoil maybe even self-hatred within him. And Allura as we know hates the Galra for killing her entire civilization. These two have a deep character development from this scene alone. We see that Allura has matured from being bitter toward Keith for being Galra to understanding that a person should not be judged by their blood but who they truly are. Also we see that Keith has accepted the fact that yes he may have a part of the enemy within him, but that does not mean he has to be anything like them. He is also pretty stand-off ish and doesn’t like opening up necessarily. He’d much rather keep to himself (other than Shiro), but he is finally opening up to someone else as well. He forgives Allura immediately despite how offensive her bias opinion was towards him. I just love Keith.

So these two are super close now or should be? Which is pretty awesome considering… Keith is super close to Shiro too. SO now he’s close to both Shiro and Allura who are both, might I remind you all, much older than would be appropriate for him to have a romantic relationship with. Anywho, this reeks of space parents and an angsty teen.

Which then leads to Shallura and why I believe it is pointing toward canon woot woot love these goobers. Alright so I’m solely focusing on a few scenes in particular where my heart was pounding and my eyes watering and I was clutching my heart while screaming at my computer screen. The feels man the feels.

I just about swooned at this. Like these underrated moments are what really get me. Like I love the whole Shiro taking Allura’s hand and telling his wife to get some rest, that got me feeling some sort of way. But this scene guys. In the heat of battle, Shiro is concerned for Allura. He’s basically saying “I wish I could be there to take care of her but Coran you have to do it for me.” I cannot guys I cannot.

She could’ve called for anyone else. Was it Keith? NOPE IT WAS SHIRO, PEOPLE!!

Never forget honestly. This is the face of a broken man. I have never seen Shiro more distressed and this pic doesn’t do it justice but when you watch this scene his eyes are glistening like he’s about to cry. The calm, collected leader Shiro is on the verge of tears? omg I can’t.

Honestly this is my weakness. When a character gets hurt and another character goes ballistic and rages. Like Shiro is so determined to kick ass in this scene and avenge Allura. End me.

For Shallura, they both have an understanding that they need each other. They are each other’s support especially considering they both are the leaders and are the older ones of the group. They help bear each other’s responsibility which is much different than Klance’s dynamic. For Klance it is much more playful and focused on chemistry. And also because they are younger it is much more naive and afraid. Both Keith and Lance obviously care for each other but they try not to show it especially when the other is present. They are self-conscious and afraid of what the other will think, that the other doesn’t feel the same way. Shiro and Allura, however, both know that they care for each other and they aren’t afraid to express it through calling each other’s name during battle and other small gestures like that.

Which I forgot to mention that everyone is freaking out over a simple hug between Allura and Keith but like have you noticed that both Klance and Shallura have not had a proper hug yet? Ummmm is this a slow burn fic or… Seriously tho, I’ve watched plenty of shows and animes (I’m shameless) to know that usually the canon couple does not have that special hugging and seal-the-deal scenes quite so early in the series because all the anticipation builds up until the perfect scene is created. I swear a tender Klance and Shallura moment is coming I swear.

Which then leads to my mains, Klance. I just have to admit that one of the many reasons I love these two is because of the fact that Keith and Lance are like my fav characters of all time. And I can relate to both of them at the same time idk. Anyway, back to what’s important: evidence of canon.

So… Do I really need to show these? Like these scenes do not need further analysis it just reeks of dorks-in-love-who-don’t-know-they’re-in-love-with-each-other-and-who-don’t-know-that-the-other-is-in-love-with-them. Man I love Klance.

So instead let’s over-analyze a few other scenes…

“Babe I thought you would have my back.”

“First you forget the bonding moment now this.”

Look this one is a stretch lol but just look at Keith’s face. When you watch this scene, Keith goes from his signature annoyed and irritated look to a betrayed and frustrated look. Maybe that’s just me, but aside from that, he doesn’t necessarily look pissed off, his face changes from his usual pissy look to something much different. Obviously what Lance says does calm him down enough not to yell back at him, but he also looks frustrated because no one understand him or his secret about his past with the Blade of Mamora and all that good junk at this point. I think it is especially bothering him that he can’t just upfront say what he is hiding, and instead he knows he is looking like a fool in front of them (and especially Lance).

Body language is important. Keith turns around as not to face them, I think he is hurt because obviously this whole situation is important to him but not even Lance seems to understand him. And I seriously think Keith and Lance have like this weird mutual understanding usually. Like ya they fight I get that, but usually they kinda get what the other is trying to get at I feel, idk maybe thats just me.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how blue Lance’s eyes are in this… I love my son…

So like if you look closely at this scene you notice that when Lance is making eye contact with Keith, Keith has his typical “I hate you Lance but really I don’t but I’m gonna pretend like I do” face. But right when Lance looks away Keith actually looks sad and kinda hurt. Out of everyone, he hates that Lance is the one revealing his flaws, and even he knows its true. Lance stop insulting your husband. He’s actually sensitive about what you think of him:(((

Uhhh lowkey I think Keith is just as insecure as Lance is, but he just doesn’t show it… Oh the Klangst!

And another thing we get to see in Season 2 is that Lance is showing ALOT of concern of Keith’s wellbeing which is pretty big if you ask me because season 1 was basically Pining!Keith worried about his boyf. Now we get to see some worried Lance.

Honestly, like I mentioned before, the creators are going for a slow burn. And both Shallura and Klance definitely have their little hints and subtle moments that are very easily missed. But that’s the point. If it’s too obvious then the ending won’t be as powerful, the couples won’t be as special. Also, the development of both of these couples is going slow but very well thought out and I actually appreciate it a lot. I know for a fact K//allura won’t be canon because their interaction is too straight-up(lol) for it to be canon. It could be said as “predictable” but idk I just get a total brotp vibe from them nothing more, plus if they were hinting at canon for them, they wouldn’t have them hug so soon. Also their reactions and facial expressions toward the hugs and touches would be very different. It wasn’t tender like the Bonding Moment™ or the Shallura hand grab™. Facial expressions and reactions are key! Keith looked indifferent when Allura fell into his arms and their hug was sweet yes but it wasn’t hesitant and nervous like a couple who just discovered their feelings for one another would react. It was a hug between two people who recognize their bond. It was a strong bond yes, between two lovers? no I don’t think so. Allura, herself even confirmed how she now viewed the paladins as her family and it just felt to much like a familial bond I couldn’t see anything more to it. If Kallura was to be canon they would have more subtle moments than in-your-face big moments. Little details in the way Keith or Allura would look, or in the background they would be gazing at each other (*cough* like Keith does to Lance *cough*) It’s the little things that count, remember that.

The only ship I was concerned that would be canon was Sh//eith, because they have an obvious bond that is much different than everyone else. But ever since the “Shiro, you’re a bro to me” happened, it basically killed any chance of it happening. Which in my opinion is much better because Klance and Shallura have so much potential and their stories can expand and be written so well. As it is, the creators are doing a really good job at unraveling their stories slowly but just enough as to give the viewers hope which is the goal usually for tv shows. They try to make the shippers suffer sometimes *sigh*.

Anywho, if you read up to this point thanks for listening to me rambling about space parents and space ranger partners lol! I loved season 2 because it revealed a lot about Keith not only through the obvious backstories and blade of mamora stuff but also through his interactions. And yes Keith is my fav lol. Anyways, I am 99.9% sure Klance and Shallura are gonna be canon but by no means am I saying you shouldn’t ship what you want. You do you, folks. Ship on and enjoy the show!

Drabble:  He creeped me out. I’m not gonna lie.

You and Harley have been best friends since you gave her shelter when Batman was after her. That was two years ago. Since then, she has been trying to drag you into her world. You can’t lie, you kinda like it. The loud music, the long nights and the expensive gifts she always brings you.

Right now you hear her, breaking in your apartment again. At 3 a.m. Groaning and tossing around, you hope she’s just looking for something. But of course not.

“Wake up! Wake up!” She swings the door open, making you jump on the bed and sit up. “Guess who you’ll meet tonight?”

“Who?” You ask in a sleepy voice.

“My ex.” Her bright smile doesn’t fade. Harley broke up definitely with the Joker.

The Joker. Like, the baddest of the bad. You never saw the man and you honestly don’t want to. It’s good to know that Harley finally got over him, and now they’re just partners in crime.

“I don’t want to meet him.” You push her away playfully when she jumps in your bed. “You can go and tell him I said ‘hi’.”

“No. You’re coming. Now go and put on that sexy dress I gave you.”

Arguing with Harley is useless, so you get up and take a quick shower. She gave you many dresses. All of them short and tight. So you choose the purple one, which isn’t so short but has a deep cleavage. For some reason, Harley loves your breasts and wants you to show them to the world. With a sigh, you leave the bathroom, just to put another smile on your friend’s face.

“That’s how I like it. Everyone on his club will stare at you.”

 “I know.”

The car is stolen, that’s obvious. When she stops, you can’t help but beg her to take you back home. But no. Harley drags you through alleys and them downstairs until the most ridiculous dance club you’ve ever seemed. Everything seems expensive, and these people seem to be very very rich.

“Holy shit. There are, like… People from the government here.”

 “Well, just don’t tell anyone.”

You’d answer, but Harley screams. She guides you throughout the endless tables and many half naked girls to what seems to be the backstage.

“He doesn’t live here, so don’t ask him that.” That’s when you notice that she’s knocking on a wooden door. Soon enough someone opens it.

“So you brought me a gift.” The man stares down at you, hungry eyes and a weird smile. The Joker is even scarier in person.

 “She’s not a gift. She’s (Y/N). Remember?”

“Such a pretty little thing…” When he allows you both to walk in, you pretend not to be surprised. Three dead bodies beside his huge desk, and lots of different guns on it.

“Now. Let’s get to business.” Harley says in a singsong voice.

“No. I want to get to know this friend of yours.” Joker sits on the couch, ignoring the men who come to drag the corpses to God knows where.

They both keep staring, waiting for you to say something.

“What? You’re a fucking villain, I don’t know what to say.” Rolling your eyes, you sit on his desk, not bothering to ask for permission. “This is insane. Three dead men? Seriously?”

“Oh, she’s so sweet, isn’t she?” Harley grabs Joker’s arm and shakes it. But his eyes don’t leave you until it starts to feel uncomfortable.

 “Yes, she is.”

His low voice sends shivers down your spine. Crossing your legs, you clean your throat, trying to make this weird sensation go away.

 “So. You two have business?”

“Yes. I actually have business with many people, as you can see.” Joker stands up, walking up to his desk.

Choosing to be smart, you jump to the ground, but when you step away from the desk, he stops right before you, blocking your way. His eyes are locked on yours, so you can’t help being a bit scared.

 “Let me…”

His cold fingers touch your chin, moving down to your neck and then your shoulders.

“I have dangerous people coming and I don’t want you anywhere near them.” Joker turns to face Harley, who’s still sitting there, a smile on her lips. “Take her home, Harley. She’s under my protection.”

Before you could say anything, Harley takes you by the hand and drags you out the damn club. You wanted to stay. To see those men, to see more of Joker.

Harley gladly drives you home through the dark and empty streets of Gotham.

 “Sooooooo. Did you like him?”

“He creeped me out. I’m not gonna lie.” You take a deep breath. She wouldn’t let it go. “But yes, I guess he’s not that… bad.”

“I knew it! I rather him to date you than any of those bitches.” She turns left, forcing you to hold onto your seat.

 “Okay then.”

“I’m not gonna be the only one breaking into your apartment at 3 a.m. now.”

You can’t help but laugh. This life isn’t for you, well, that’s what you tell yourself every night. But you have to admit: it does make you feel alive. Now you can barely wait for Joker to break into your apartment.

honestly, i just can’t get over monty’s scene in 4x02 where he frees the people instead of killing the ice nation warrior. his actions are so tied together with what we know about his father in that moment - with such a surprising outcome - that i can’t help myself but literally scream and declare my undying love for my stormcloud and hero - because that is what he is to me, lets be real.

like, remember when hannah and pike told him about his father in 3x02?:

Monty: I need to know what happened.

Hannah: Monty…

Monty: Please.

Hannah: We landed in the snow. Your father said it absorbed some of the impact. That’s why we survived. The snow looked so beautiful, it… Charles?

Pike: The children were playing in it. They were the first to die… 15 of them. If not for your father, would’ve been more. He pulled 4 kids back into the ship, all 4 alive today. They got him when he went back for the fifth. Your father died a hero, Monty.

when monty is confronted with the person who killed his father in 4x02 and bryan tells him that this is his kill (suggesting revenge) we see bellamy tell him that he doesn’t have to do this, because monty is thrust into a corner in which he has to make a rather hard decision - one that is not just gonna affect him, but will also affect the people around him. but then monty says “yeah i do”, and all initial thoughts are cracked open and pushed into another direction.

i get chills every time now, because i know he is going to use the axe to break the chains (three strong hits) and free the slaves. and just, i’m so aware of how much that action contrasts his first choice. to take the hydro generator and leave farm station without saving the 25 people and sacrifice them for the greater good? that decision is juxtaposed the second he uses the axe, a tool that is so drastically associated with violence and death, to free the people.

and it gets even wilder:

he literally gives riley a nod that says “this is your kill”.

and they do. they attack the ice nation warrior and kill him with their bare hands (what a crazy way to put emphasis on the fact that the slaves can use their hands now btw. while the axe, a deathly tool, frees them from the chains around their wrists, we also see that once they get to freedom, they get to use it to kill someone). and i know, people like to mention how monty indirectly gets his revenge through the 25 people, but i think the greater part of all this is that he is actually (partly) coming out as a hero, just like pike told him his father were. conflicted yes, but also willing to finish what they have started.

it’s an act (decision) that sits heavily on his shoulders, one he never had the chance to even remotely prepare himself for, unlike with the hydro generator, but this was a big moment for him, especially as a person, nonetheless.

he can be so hauntingly calculating during missions, but then he can also be ready for other dramatic shifts that highlight the kindred spirit that he is. i really wonder how this experience will affect him personally and his mindset over the course of the show tbh, considering that they couldn’t bring home the one thing they went to farm station for, but still got to save lifes. there is a reason the writers played with two choices and it’s exciting as much as it is unsettling. it’s clear that he is going to have to make more hard decisions in the future…

anyway. i’m rambling but god, the stakes are truly higher than ever before. i don’t think i’m ready for this season after all lmao.

I love love love the show, but what it has become is sickening.

13 Reasons Why should not turn into quizzes to find out if you a rapist, a stalker, a murder, ect. 13 Reasons Why should not turn into games where you spitefully tell people how they hurt you that one time back in preschool when you stole their crayon.

13 Reasons Why should not become trivialized. I understand that many already see the show as encouraging or downplaying or misrepresenting mental health. I disagree with that entirely, but when it becomes some national trend like this when it becomes quizzes and games, I understand completely why people are upset or triggered by how belittling of serious problems the show is becoming.

13 Reasons Why should not be some silly teenage drama; it has a message a purpose that shouldn’t be undermined by people or company trying to market on its success because when that happens the true message is lost and the show just becomes some mindless relatable teen drama that hurts more than it helps.

Stop making 13 Reasons Why some sort of trendy craze.

Sherlock - PSA

Since S4 ended I have gone through various stages of dealing with what once was my favourite show. I have to admit that I only rewatched The Lying Detective once and I can’t bring myself to rewatch the other two episodes because I am still so angry… (I am straight) and I am/ was always fascinated by John and Sherlock’s relationship, the love they have for each other and of course, I am well aware what it would have meant if this love had been openly acknowledged … and that’s just one of the (many) reasons why I am still deeply irritated by the way Moftiss et al chose to write this fourth series. I mean, what the heck? Anyway, this has been said a thousand times before and so much better as well, but as a consequence I wanted nothing to do with Sherlock for a while, stepped away from tumblr, lost hundreds of followers… and it’s only in the last weeks that I found pleasure again in coming back here sometimes and to look at and reblog all the great Sherlock and especially Johnlock fanart. Well, yes, that’s what I wanted to say, even though it’s not that much… ;) … and I’m glad that a lot of my followers are still here! Thank you for that xx

I’ve experienced violence first-handedly and I can tell you that there is ALWAYS a way. Don’t let yourself down. You are worthy enough to get a real relationship without violence, abuse, humilliation, etc. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

Enjoy!

Road trips weren’t Sherlock’s favourite kinds of journeys, especially when the destiny was his parents’ house. Yet, he remained calm, finding all sorts of excuse to encourage the on-going conversation between him and (Y/N) to continue until their arrival.

It had been Mycroft’s idea to spend the Christmas Break at their parent’s house. Obviously, Sherlock was a bit reluctant about it, but (Y/N) convinced him to spend time with his family. He agreed as long as she went there with him – which was perfectly accepted by the rest of the Holmes – and so there were.

They arrived a tad bit late, when the moon had just risen over the green hills that framed the petite picture of the small British house Mr. and Mrs. Holmes lived at. In spite of the time, they were received by the cheerful couple and Mycroft, who was just as serious as usual.

After a long dinner, they went to bed. As far as they could tell, that that Christmas would be pacific between the two brothers. Sherlock hadn’t been shot then, and Mycroft was free from his work, so Mrs. Holmes and (Y/N) hoped that they weren’t stressed enough to start an argument over nothing.

The first two days were fine. Mycroft and Sherlock would bombard each other with snazzy comments, but that was it. Mrs. Holmes was more than happy to have her two boys at home without arguing.

“I think he is behaving because of you.” She confessed once to (Y/N), while they baked together.

Leela! This was my favorite live show! This one really felt so warm and cozy and he looked so happy and soft and was talking to us like a friend with how he was talking about his feelings and mental health and just trying to explain things without giving too much away and ahh I love Daniel Howell so much! I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

where to begin y’all. everything that you said and more–this live show was just so great. it wasn’t one of the ones that maybe necessarily gave us tons of new insight into dan or phil or their lives, but it was so good because dan is so clearly doing okay right now. he’s happy. it’s radiating off of him. maybe part of it is the stark contrast to how he was in live shows during feb/march, maybe part of it is our own confirmation bias and our desire to connect this dan—live and taking time out of his evening to speak with us—to all of the big changes we’ve been seeing from him,,, but regardless, in an absolute sense, dan is definitely happy and that is probably the fundamental reason why this live show felt so lovely.

i went back to read some of my notes on his last few live shows before writing this one and it was surreal to see how many of my comments were about how negative he was being. he inserted a joke about wanting death or being an ugly rat or failing at most things in life so frequently. he constantly berated his own approaches to various things in his life and alluded to struggling with a lot of his own internal thoughts. in contrast, this live show contained a grand total of zero comments regarding death. zero comments about being ugly or terrible. he of course noted flaws in his approach to youtube and things of that nature, but he didn’t really criticize himself for them, and instead pinned them back to his own mental health and the way his personality works and offered up constructive ways that he’s thinking about dealing with all of it. it was like watching,, not a different person, but a strangely calmer person—someone who has clearly spent some time reflecting on these things and has gotten himself to a better and calmer headspace.

the best part about the happiness in this liveshow for me is that it wasn’t really communicated through words (he never actually said that he’s really happy or excited or anything like that.) and it wasn’t like he totally avoided talking about his fears or his flaws in a way that would actually be disingenuous. it was all a bit more subtle and (to use his own refrain) ~authentic~ than that. it was there in the way he couldn’t get through so many sentences without breaking into a laugh or a big smile. it was there in the way he talked about the audience—a bit gushy at times, but mostly fond and appreciative. genuinely. it was there, of course, in the little asides he shared about phil and about their plans for the future. it’s fun to think about what may have helped this shift along. maybe it was time away in singapore, taking a step back to reflect on how far they’ve come and how much they’ve achieved and how very bright their future looks regardless of its specifics, or maybe it’s because the hard things he’d been dreading (like moving on some level bc it’s stressful, and also the ‘rebrand’) are now over and done with and he can just settle in the aftermath. and all of this sort of fits with what we know of the person that dan has been basically forever. he’s someone who spirals and even anguishes in the stretches of time before a decision is made. he doubts himself and he fears being scrutinized or judged. he’s afraid of what people will say but at the same time wants to be above all of it and make decisions that reflect what he really wants. it’s clear that the last couple of months, just from what we know and what he’s told us, have been filled with these sort of troubling internal struggles, but dan has also always been the person that appears to find solace and fulfillment in the certainty of a decision being made. he seems to be much more at ease once he has figured out the right way to proceed and actually executed it, because even if the decision backfires or goes wrong, he’s okay defending it, he’s okay because he knows he thought it through and did what felt best to him and whatever comes from it is of secondary importance. sticking to a choice you’ve made, or believing in that choice, is a lot easier than a belabored process of weighing between options and thinking about how each option reflects on who you are as a person. all of this to say. i’m glad that for the time being things seemed to have calmed down, and he’s happy. i’m glad he wants to share so much of that with us. i thought i’d go through some specific insights by general topic area, under a cut for once bc in actuality this is the longest thing i’ve ever written about them it’s obnoxious~~

honestly? i’m not the type of person that writes what they’re thinking about on tumblr but after all this discourse happening i had to let this out.

when i started watching voltron i didn’t know i would’ve liked it this much, i didn’t know i would’ve considered it my favorite show ever. I’ve always liked mechas and seeing one being so well made and with so many good characters and amazing plot made me completely and utterly astonished.

seeing all this hate, all this bad stuff is making me incredibly depressed as i really love this show and i want to give it a better name.

i am a multishipper, although i have a preference for klance and i consider it my main ship (or the reason i’m breathing,,, i’m not going to go on or this will take forever), but i ship literally everything else in this show.

AND I WILL ADMIT IT! I do not like sheith that much but i like the idea of it and the dynamic they have, i like going in the tag sometimes and see the artwork because it’s amazing!! like seriously go on the sheith tag because the art is fantastic wtf???
but do i get in the tag to spread hate or make the shippers feel horrible? no, no i do not, because if people did that with klance i’d feel bad. More than bad, horrible.

what i’m trying to say here is that there’s a big difference between not liking a ship but respecting people and not liking a ship and harrassing others that do actually like it.

I just want this fandom to be better for everybody, i don’t want people to be afraid to say “oh yeah i ship this!!”

so, please, if you don’t agree with my words then ignore this post, scroll down and forget you ever read this

but if you do agree please spread the positivity around. We desperately need it.

In-and-out-laws

Something I forgot to mention in my review of Supernatural 12x12, “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” because I was super tired last night…

This episode gave us one of the most interesting plot twists in the Destiel love story we’ve ever had, and that’s saying something.

In real life, the only commonly recognised way for someone to suddenly acquire an adult “son” is via marriage, as a son-in-law. Or, if there has been no marriage yet, they might still be called a son or son-in-law (or in Aussie slang, an out-law :) to acknowledge the seriousness of the relationship.

Without that romantic tie, a close friendship between one of your children and someone else (the “brother from another mother”) does not usually translate to being openly acknowledged as another son within the family as a whole. I’m not saying that never happens, I’m saying that in our common understanding of families, “in-law” is the recognised way for an unrelated adult to enter a family. In fact, pretty much the only publicly and legally acknowledged way an unrelated adult can join a family is via marriage, which is one of the reasons marriage equality is a core concern for many queer people.

So when Mary protectively co-opts Castiel as one of her boys in that final scene, after he just confessed his forbidden love for the Winchesters, and all the special things he’s shared with Humanity/Dean… when it’s pretty clear he had to give up his original Heavenly family in order to become a Winchester (and, I might add, in a way that works as a heartbreaking thematic parallel to the homophobia and disowning that still often follows a gay union)?

Yeah, the show downplayed this subtext as much as it possibly could while still making it a central part of the episode, because of course it did, but in real life, the most obvious implication to this kind of dynamic is that Mary thinks Castiel is her son-in-law.

That is the unavoidable conclusion the (sub)text is offering us. If it can really be called subtext. As I doubt mainstream audiences recognised the implication, despite its obviousness, I guess it still is.

(Whether Dean, Castiel, or for that matter, Sam, think Castiel has married into the family is a whole other post. But whatever they think, the implication is unavoidably offered to us in this episode – Mary considers Castiel her son-in-law now.)
