The Grammys just made it crystal clear: It values music that is plain, safe and white.

Beyoncé’s Lemonade went into the night a critical favorite by far, but every time it went up against Adele’s 25, it lost. Adele’s “Hello” took best pop solo performance over Beyoncé’s “Hold Up;” it also took song of the year over “Formation,” making for a clean sweep for Adele.

The Lemonade visual album — arguably the most powerful aspect of Beyoncé’s release, and a film widely hailed as one of the most ambitious and profound creations in that medium — was beat out by a Beatles tour documentary for best music film.

We’ve seen this special brand of erasure year in and year out at the Grammys. For the past eight years, white artists have taken the show’s album of the year award over black artists.

Adele’s win simply reinforces the norm and provides even further proof that Grammy voters have trouble recognizing quality black art. Read more (Opinion)

  • they tried to get noodle to eat brussels sprouts when she was little and they went on a health kick. she didn’t understand what they were called and thought they were called russel sprouts. to this day brussels sprouts are referred to as russel sprouts by everyone in the band and this is just an accepted phrase now. whenever they pass the produce aisle someone inevitably yells “hey russel!” and holds up a brussels sprout when he looks over (at least, 2d and noodle do. murdoc tends to just chuck a brussels sprout at russ’s head from all the way across the aisle and then pretend it wasn’t him.)
  • they all love the beatles so much. they tend to play beatles songs to warm up before practice; can’t buy me love was a favorite of noodle’s when she was little because 2d would dance with her and swing her around during the instrumental part while they sang. i want to hold your hand is also a popular one because during the bridge — “and when i touch you i feel happy inside” — 2d and noodle go all fake-sentimental and dramatically sigh and swoon all over the room. usually they sing to russ and get him to clasp their hands during this part or stroke murdoc’s face dramatically (he always pushes them away but he’s laughing.) one of the first songs murdoc learned was blackbird and he tends to play it to himself in his room when he’s alone, singing quietly. he taught it to noodle when she was really young and caught him singing it and even now, sometimes they’ll sit in the studio with their guitars singing blackbird together — it’s their thing.

“Everyone knows now that “God Only Knows” was Paul’s favorite song—and not only his favorite Beach Boys song, but one of his favorite songs period. It’s the kind of thing people write in liner notes and say on talk shows. When people read it, they kind of look at that sentence and keep going. But think about how much it mattered to me when I first heard it there on Sunset Boulevard. I was the person who wrote “God Only Knows,” and here was another person—the person who wrote “Yesterday” and “And I Love Her” and so many other songs—saying it was his favorite. It really blew my mind. He wasn’t the only Beatle who felt that way. John Lennon called me after Pet Sounds—phoned me up, I think the British say—to tell me how much he loved the record.”

– Brian Wilson, 2016

(PAUL: “I played it to John so much that it would be difficult for him to escape the influence.”)

One of my favorite artists covering another one of my favorite artists. Doesn’t get much better than that. “All My Loving” is a song from the Beatles’ 1963 album ‘With the Beatles’. It was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon-McCartney. Amy performed this acoustic cover at the Glastonbury Festival in 2004.

What Kind Of Music Does the RFA (+ V & Saeran) Listen To?

this is probably really bad and cringy, but I tried? I went through my Spotify and chose what songs suited the characters, which ones I thought they were most likely to sing/like, and etc

▪listens to really super cheesy pop music & soundtracks probably
▪Boomerang by the Summer Set seems like his kind of song 10/10 sign me the frick up
▪Undertale soundtrack! If LOLOL has one too, then he owns a copy in every format
▪Favorite songs: Boomerang by the Summer Set, Punch-Drunk Love by the Summer Set, Dear Maria Count Me In by All Time Low

▪yupp, I said it
Look me in the face and tell me Hotline Bling is not his song I s2g
▪"Used to always stay at home, be a good girl. You was in a zone, yeah. You should just be yourself, right now, you’re someone else"
▪100% Zen
▪screams “Someone Like You” in the shower with tears running down his face
▪probably likes Marian Hill too, especially their more sultry & seductive songs
▪loves the Death Of a Bachelor album
▪favorite songs: Death Of a Bachelor by P!ATD, Crazy = Genius by P!ATD, Lovit by Marian Hill, the entire 21 album

707 *spoilers?*
▪has every single bad remix downloaded & playing
▪has all of the worst country music in his playlists
▪if you make him mad or meme him, he builds a robot that follows you around all day playing Never Gonna Give You Up and the Dat Boi remixes
Saeyoung stop this goddamn it it’s been two whole days
▪likes Fall Out Boy, especially The Phoenix and My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark
▪PiNk GuY
▪Meme Machine is his favorite song though, just accept it

▪classical obv
▪that one Piano Cat song is his favorite
▪has a really super picky taste so he doesn’t like many other genres

▪precious boy needs precious music
▪likes indie, old pop, classical & soft jazz
▪not their rock stuff, but the mellow pop stuff
▪the lyrics to him are 👌👌👌
▪fave songs: Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley, When I’m Sixty-four by the Beatles, Fireside by Arctic Monkeys

▪would give everything a try at least once, but also has a picky taste
▪anything with Zen in it, plus indie acoustic?
▪might like Jasmine Thompson especially her song “Fast Car”

▪a lot of people canon him to listen to super eDgY metal but I have to disagree
▪I think he likes more 90’s grunge music and the emo trinity (Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance)
▪would never admit it but classical music really calms him down when he’s upset
▪so he likes some of that too
▪definitely the type of person who wouldn’t like a band just because his brother does (but when he finds out 707 likes Fall Out Boy? Slight anger)
▪probably steals 707’s FOB shirts and denies it heavily
▪fave songs: My Own Worst Enemy by Lit, Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers, What a Catch Donnie by Fall Out Boy

A Wayward Lullaby

Song: Brother by NeedToBreathe

Warnings: angst, death, sad fic with even sadder ending.

If you had asked Dean Winchester where he had heard the lullaby he sang his brother asleep to, he wouldn’t be able to tell you. He had heard the song in a random place at a random time. Maybe at a grocery store or flipping through the channels of his father’s car radio. The discovery wasn’t what stood out to him; the lyrics did.

George Harrison and Olivia Trinidad Arias waiting for the Dark Horse Tour band to clear customs, 2 November 1974, as included in the Living in the Material World book

Photo: Henry Grossman

“I fell for her immediately. She is a very calming influence. She has been very supportive and we are blissfully happy together. I told her I didn’t want her doing all that typing. We started going with each other, and four years later we married.” - George Harrison [x]

* * *

“Before she became Olivia Harrison in 1978, she was Olivia Trinidad Arias, an Angeleno whose grandparents immigrated to Los Angeles from Mexico.
She grew up in Hawthorne, hometown of the Beach Boys, which turned out to be a major point of interest for George when she gave him a tour of her old neighborhood.
She was working at A&M Records, which distributed Dark Horse releases at the time, and started chatting with Harrison when he’d call about business.
They found they had musical and philosophical interests in common and soon began seeing each other regularly. ‘I was from outside of his world,’ she says. 'I was shelter from the storm. I was simple, and he needed some simplicity at that point.’
She says she never really stopped to think about the implications of getting involved with a musician, much less an ex-Beatle. 'You can’t really think about it that way, otherwise you’re just playacting.’
How will she cope when all the projects are completed? Is she simply postponing the feelings of loss with all the activity?
Those are questions she doesn’t worry about, and she knows what George would have said on the subject.
‘One of his favorite things to say was, “Be here now,”’ she says. His song by that title, from his 1973 album 'Living in the Material World,’ remains one of her favorites, and it’s one she plays any time she feels in need of a booster shot of moral support.
'Sometimes he and Dhani would be talking and Dhani would ask, “Well what if this happens?” or “What if that happens?”’ she says. 'George would say, “Be here now. Be here now.”'” - “Here now, she lives for George” by Randy Newman, Los Angeles Times, 9 March 2005 [x]

Here Comes the Sun

Fandom: Marvel

Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader

Summary: The domestic life of Steve, Y/N, and their daughter, Sunny.

A/N: Thought of this after listening to the Beatles’ song of the same title. 🌞

You woke up to not find your husband, Steve, next to you in bed. You looked at the time. It was 7:30am which means that Steve would be helping your daughter, Sunny, getting ready for her first day at school. It was Monday morning.

You suddenly heard music coming from downstairs. You smiled to yourself as you heard the familiar tune and lyrics:

Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right

It was a daily ritual for your small family to start the morning with listening to one of the most well-known Beatles song “Here Comes the Sun”. It was one of Steve’s absolute favorite songs that you introduced to him as you helped him catch up with the times. And because he loved the song so much, he wanted to name your daughter Sunny, because she was your little sunshine. Obviously, you agreed.

Marauders Music Headcanons

These headcanons are based purely on the Marauders Era (1960′s-1970′s) and the popular music of that time.

It probably wouldn’t be a huge shocker if Walburga forced Sirius and Regulus to listen to some classical music (by Wizard musicians of course; there would be none of that muggle, Mozart, garbage in 12 Grimmauld Place thanks) So Sirius grows up listening to lyric-less or operatic music that makes him want to gouge his ears out with a goddamned fork. However, after going to Hogwarts and becoming acquainted with muggle-born students, he has a queue of songs written down on at least three feet of parchment. He come to love music with a passion (particularly rock and roll). There are nights where James has been woken up by Sirius singing in his sleep. It’s Sirius’ dream to be able to play the guitar after listening to the amazing guitar solo played between Joe Walsh and Don Felder in Hotel California. One Christmas, Mooney, Prongs and Wormtail pool their money together to get Sirius an acoustic guitar. For the first couple of weeks, it was the worst mistakes of their lives- he won’t stop practicing in his free time, and as any beginner, he isn’t the best. But eventually, he builds up his skill as a guitarist as well as calluses on his fingers from strumming and holding down the cords. FAVORITE SONGS: The Joker (Steve Miller Band); Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 (Pink Floyd); The House of the Rising Sun (The Animals); Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival); (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (The Rolling Stones); While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles); Oh Pretty Woman (Roy Orbison); Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (The Beatles); TNT (ACDC); Sweet Emotion (Aerosmith); Hotel California (Eagles); Dream On (Aerosmith); Highway To Hell (ACDC); Burnin’ For You (Blue Oyster Cult); Brandy (Looking Glass)

James grows up listening to regular wizard bands. I feel like James had a very eclectic taste in music, so he’ll listen to just about anything and thoroughly enjoy it. He never really listened to muggle bands just because I don’t think neither he or his parents were really exposed to them (especially Euphemia and Fleamont being as old as they were). Like Sirius, he became exposed to modern muggle music upon entering Hogwarts. He was even more compelled to listen to muggle bands when Lily mentioned her favorite band being Fleetwood Mac. James is one of those guys where, when he really;enjoys a song, he’ll play it on repeat until he’s sick of it and goes to find something new to listen to. James favors more lively music that he can dance to. Exerting mental and physical energy into dancing is a favorite of his. When he’s dating Lily, he listens to “Shining Star” by Earth, Wind and Fire for the first time, and he tells her he wants to go to a disco. FAVORITE SONGS: Mr. Blue Sky (Electric Light Orchestra); Dancing Queen (ABBA); Come and Get Your Love (Redbone); Happy Together (The Turtles); My Girl (The Temptations); The Lion Sleeps Tonight (The Tokens); I Heard it Through the Grapevine (Marvin Gaye); YMCA (Village People); Barracuda (Heart); Carry on Wayward Son (Kansas); I Want You To Want Me (Cheap Trick); Tiny Dancer (Elton John); Don’t Bring me Down (Electric Light Orchestra); Strange Magic (Electric Light Orchestra); Turn To Stone (Electric Light Orchestra)

Remus, because his mother was a muggle, was exposed to different kinds of muggle music. Hope (Remus’ mother) would listen to ballads with her son, one of their favorites being “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. He and his mother would also listen to the Beatles, of course. “Let It Be” was his favorite song of the Beatles. While he enjoyed listening to music, he definitely wasn’t as passionate/obsessed about it as Sirius was. The kind of music he listened to was mostly folk rock, more mellow jams he could put at a low volume and enjoy as he would make tea, or curl up with a book and a bar of chocolate. Remus appreciated music that could calm him and make him feel more comfortable instead of riled up and excitable. FAVORITE SONGS: Landslide (Fleetwood Mac); Mrs. Robinson (Simon & Garfunkel); Stand by Me (Ben E. King); The Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel); American Pie (Don McLean); You’re So Vain (Carly Simon); A Horse With No Name (America); Stuck in the Middle With You (Stealers Wheel); Have You Ever Seen the Rain (Creedence Clearwater); Stairway to Heaven (Led Zepplin); Desperado (Eagles); Take It To The Limit (Eagles); Lean On Me (Bill Withers); Piano Man (Billy Joel); Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard (Paul Simon)

Peter probably liked the Bee Gees.

“Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen are the shared favorites among the Marauders.

My earliest memory of my dad is probably of him somewhere in a garden covered in dirt, somewhere hot, a tropical garden, in jeans, khakis covered in dirt just continuously planting trees. I think that’s what I thought he did for the first seven years of my life. I was completely unaware that he had anything to do with music. I came home one day from school after being chased by kids singing ‘Yellow Submarine’, and I didn’t understand why. It just seemed surreal: Why are they singing that song to me? I came home and I freaked out on my dad: 'Why didn’t you tell me you were in The Beatles?’ And he said, 'Oh, sorry. Probably should have told you that.’

Famous Serial Killers and Their Favorite Music

Richard Ramirez

Ramirez was a fan of the rock band AC/DC and even left a baseball cap with the band’s logo on it at the scene of one of his murders.

Jeffery Dahmer

Those who knew Dahmer personally reported that one of his favorite bands was Black Sabbath. Because Dahmer’s crimes are so notorious many metal bands have written songs based on him and the horrific acts he committed.

John Wayne Gacy (The Killer Clown)

The man who made Americans terrified of clowns once answered a survey in which he listed REO Speedwagon as his favorite band.

Charles Manson

Though it has never been proven that Manson committed ANY murders by his own hand, he did lead a cult that carried out multiple murders under his instruction. Manson was a musician himself and despite never achieving fame for his music, he succeeded in associating himself with some of the most famous musicians of the time. The Beach Boys were personal friends of Manson to the point that he lived with Dennis Wilson for a short while. He also hung around with folk-rock band The Mamas and The Papas and Neil Young.

Charles Manson loved The Beatles and even used lyrics from their songs to fuel his delusions and control his followers.

David Berkowitz

The “Son of Sam” was a self-proclaimed folk rock lover and one of his favorite artists was Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Aileen Wuornos

Wuornos’ favorite artist was Natalie Merchant and she even arranged to have the song “Carnival” played at her funeral.

Take My Whole Life, Too

Request- «Hey Hun, could you do a g-eazy imagines where he propose to you»
Three years. Three solid, amazing and crazy years. That’s how long you and G had been together. That’s what you are celebrating tonight. It makes you nervous thinking about it because G has a surprise, he’s very unpredictable so you can’t even begin to imagine what he could mean by surprise. For all you know he’s only going to treat you to a nice dinner that he cooked. And the present would be that he learned to cook because you doubt that cereal would be what he would make for your three year anniversary. He told you that he would meet you downstairs at 6:00pm. It’s currently only 3pm and he’s out and about right now. He said he would be until he came to pick you up. You look on his side of the bed where he left a beautiful but retro looking black dress, a really expensive looking pearl necklace, a tube of red lipstick, some heels and note that reads:
“Hey baby, I want you to wear this for tonight’s surprise. It’ll be cool, I promise. I love you! G”
The outfit he left for you only adds to your curiosity. It seems very themed… you smile at it. You decide to get in the shower, take a nice long warm one and pamper yourself a bit before you start getting ready. An hour later you come out refreshed and smooth. You feel good about yourself as you begin to pull the dress on. An hour and a half later later you’re all done. You take a look at yourself in the mirror and nod. Not bad, you’re liking this look. Now you have to anxiously wait for 30 more minutes to go by. You walk up and down the stairs a few times before deciding that’s too tiring. You sit on the couch, then you go sit in the kitchen and then you go back to the couch. Soon the 30 minute wait is over and G is walking in. He gives you a small smirk when he spots you sitting on the couch. You stand up, noticing his outfit as he walks over to you. It’s very him but a little more.
“You look beautiful Y/N…” his deep voice is soft as he embraces you.
He’s driving you somewhere, you do your best to guess by the surroundings you pass but to no avail. Soon you’re far away from your city and in a small town. He starts slowing down to turn and you see a diner, it’s very 50s/60s, it’s really cool looking but it’s empty. You turn to look at G with questioning eyes but he just smiles. You both exit the car and he takes your hand, walking inside with you. I Wanna Hold Your Hand by The Beatles is playing on a jukebox. Not once during the three years you had been dating had G been so romantic and had went over the top this way with a date. You weren’t complaining. All you could do was kiss him and smile like an idiot. He kept smiling too, he also seemed a bit nervous which was out of character for him but you brushed it off. The night went on, you had burgers, fries, and milkshakes. You two were joking and laughing, singing along to some The Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash and even some of his own songs.
“Wise men say, Only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you…”
You hear the very popular song start. It’s one of your favorites even though it’s kind of mainstream now. There’s a soft smile on your face as you listen to the lyrics, you feel G take your hands in his from across the table and your eyes meet his. The song goes on and he slowly slides out of his booth seat, keeping your hands in his, your heart starts racing as you realize what he’s doing. He’s down on one knee. Your eyes are threatening to spill as they fill up with tears. The song ends and fades away. He begins to speak
“Darling, some things are just meant to be. I am 100 percent sure that we are. You’ve taken my heart, my life, my soul and you’ve filled it with so much love and happiness. I don’t think I could go a day with out you, without your smile,” his voice almost cracks but he goes on “without your adorable laugh, I just wouldn’t make it in this world without you. You’ve changed me in so many great ways. I just… I can’t help but fall in love with you a little deeper each day and I want to give you my life, forever. Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N will you marry me?”
A/N: let me know if I should continue it :) I didn’t want to keep you guys waiting any longer
