Dexter: Pilot ↳“Tonight’s the night. And it’s going to happen, again and again. It has
to happen. Nice night. Miami is a great town. I love the Cuban food.
Pork sandwiches, my favorite. But I’m hungry for something different
Traffic was light as we set out on the road, morning sunshine covered the woods and valleys as we hugged the side of a mountain on the great, tiered highway; nothing but blue sky all around. A bright and lovely start to an anxious day.
My friend and I were sipping coffee and in the midst of an eager discussion. Morning talk radio was a decent background distraction from the nerve wracking prospect of hunting a vampire. All we had were our wits, and our notebooks. Ridiculous I know, but it had been a spur of the moment drive to spy on someone.
Anton Chigurh, a local man who kept to himself, venturing occasionally into town for supplies or entertainment. A taciturn fellow with a dark gaze for the world. And we knew his secret. He was a vampire, one who was responsible for strings of disappearances. Only we knew the truth. Rest of the town refused to believe us; even the cops.
Chigurh’s home was modest and out of the way; tucked into some trees in the valley over the hills. His truck was there; a well used vehicle that was usually spotted on back roads by hikers. Anton certainly had made a hobby of lurking.
We pulled up behind some bushes several hundred yards away, making sure we were downwind.
Claire huffed nervously. “Maybe we should have brought more than pens and notebooks…”
I lifted the pen high into the air with severe determination.
“The pen is mightier than the sword!”
“But a sword would enable you to…I dunno….at least have a fighting chance….but as you two are now….friendos….well…I do appreciate a convenient breakfast…”
Claire and I froze, slowly turning and seeing Anton casually but intensely standing a few yards behind, eyebrows raised. We scream as he smirks and advances towards us; eyes a red black; long claws curling and ready to strike.
“You-you don’t want to kill us! We have something you need!” Claire is waving her arms about, eyes wild and jumping up and down.
Anton narrowed his eyes, smile not leaving his face.
“I am aware that you do have something I need….and want….it’s currently pumping about you as we speak…two full bodied adults in one day….I won’t even need dinner…”
I suddenly sprayed him with a vicious stream of mace from a fire extinguisher. His shriek is unearthly and hideous; piercing our ears as we run for the car. Hopping in, we make a beeline for the police station; yelling about everything and nothing.
What she means:
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's the perfect mix of humor, sci-fi, and gore, and still remains family friendly. The characters are extremely diverse, several being POC, having mental disorders, or troubled pasts. All of this while still being seen as just as important as everyone else. Not to mention none of the women in this series is sexualised ever, no one is threatened by rape in scenes where it other ways would be expected, and many times the women are the ones who actually get stuff done. The story is amazing and strange and confusing, no one ever knows what's going on, not even the characters, it's just such a wonderful show and the fact that so few people have seen it is unbelievable.
Also, I haven’t said anything about it but the mid season finale of HTGAWM was absolutely incredible. I’m still amazed by how they manage to keep us in our toes with every freaking finale, and even more surprised knowing after the s3 mid season I swore I’d stop watching the show. This season is probably being one of my favorites, and when I think Viola can’t surprise me anymore… Well, she does. That scene with Laurel’s baby was heartbreaking (also, kudos to Karla, she keeps getting better and better!). I already can’t wait for the show to come back.
