one of the best scenes from this ep

everyone has that one character in a show they watch where during every ep they’re usually just waiting for that specific character’s scenes to come on and enjoy everything about them from the way they talk to the way they walk and smile whenever that person comes onscreen. a scene without that character in it feels like it’s just missing something and in your eyes they’re the best thing about the show and you don’t want anything bad to happen to them ever

honestly the scene in duet where kara and barry’s loved ones come to save them from the music meister would have been so much more poignant if it had been alex who came to save kara. alex leaning down, whispering “i got you,” saying “im sorry i was never a good sister,” kara saying “you were always the best” alex kissing kara on the forehead and it’s a sister’s love that brings her back? that shit would have been a THOUSAND times more emotional and beautiful than the fking gross hetero nonsense they presented me with and everyone involved in writing that ep owes me $50

crystal venom iconacy

i was rewatching this ep because it’s one of my faves from season 1 and it has a lot of my favorite scenes, but this one is always going to be in the top and i will demonstrate it through a very long post with lots of screenshots

hunk’s face before and after lance knocks his head….

this is the face of a man who’s had his head knocked by his best friend more than once… look at him…. he’s tired

pidge’s face here,,,, or should i say podge

just lance enjoying himself and keith silently thinking ‘how am i going to get this boy’s attention without looking like i want it

lance’s whole thinking process for a comeback

he’s so proud of himself….. (also hunk was secretly worried the entire time and was very happy to support his friend even if the comeback was lame.. bless him)

keith’s dramatique face….. what did you want from that interaction keith… what was it……

shiro’s reaction:

hunk and lance waiting??? precious

look at them…. they’re so bored and tired and adorable….. can your faves ever??

lance and shiro. look. he help

and let’s not forget the iconic leggy scene

what an iconic scene… always remember

have i ever mentioned that watching ep10 reaction vids on yt is one of my fav things in the world? it’s amazing!

first there’s the ring scene and a lot of people cry from happiness (and then i cry with them)! then they get lulled into thinking it was the plot twist of the ep, until they get to the ending and the best thing ever is the look of realization on everyone’s faces when yuuri asks vitya to be his coach and vitya does his little gasp?? and after that there’s always a few seconds of silence when you can practically see the gears turning in their heads before everyone goes “oh my god” and “this changes everything” and i absolutely love it

The lighting in this episode killed me. The flashbacks in Magnus' apartment were all done in a gold and sun like light and the scenes in present day were dark and rainy (sorry for any writing mistakes, english isn't my first language)

the directing in this ep was incredible, like all the shot were really beautifully framed. they really gave us malec bathed in gold like!!!!!!! i think along with 2x15, this is one of their best directed episodes.

i really love that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen them bathed in warm sunlight, either, like…i just love the warmth that radiates from them every time they’re together. also magnus in the rain i’m! the aesthetic is real.

I hope as time goes along that they don't stick a Jamie and Geneva moment into the Starz promos or any Outlander ones on its own. I know the wk before that ep we'll see something in a promo but still. The Claire with Frank we got in the latest thing made me want to stab my eyes out with a fork I can only imagine what a clip of Jamie with Geneva would make me want to do.

It’s funny because I didn’t give the Frank/Claire but much thought, probably since that was part of a Characters You Love promo back in March. But yeah there’s no telling what they’ll do. I suspect the trailer won’t have a ton of J/C together. Maybe we all need to just accept that now. Those trailers tend to have bits from the first 4-5 eps in them. I don’t need to see her in promo, though we will have to eventually see her and grin and bear it. DG wrote it. Geneva’s part of the reason for at least one long-term character (who also keeps LJG in play). Hoping for the best, expecting the worst, as they say. So maybe I’ll be surprised! The least they can do is get rid of the rapey-ness of that scene. Which, based on Hannah James’ comments, it seems like they’ve done. Also, props to her for being the least thirsty bit player on the show, aside from Tobias. The lady went in, got her job done, and left.

“Kali Yuga” by GHOSTEMANE prod. by Clams Casino (Video by Max Beck)

The fact that GHOSTEMANE x Clams Casino exists, as both a music video and forthcoming EP, makes me grin from ear to ear. On one hand, GHOSTEMANE is from the Soundcloud scene I’ve had the pleasure to watch grow from a sappling into the behemoth of a movement that it is today. On the other hand, Clams Casino is one of the best, most influential producers of the 21st century, and has been there at launch of some of the biggest rapper’s careers, including A$AP Rocky, Lil B, Mac Miller, and Vince Staples. The fact that he’s looking to work with GHOSTE on one of his most extensive collabs to date, is a testament to the staying power this hip-hop underground has in store.

About Last Night

I am currently sitting in the airport waiting to board my flight and I’m going on two hours of sleep, so I’m pretty tired (but it’s worth it). I’m reminiscing about the last 24 hours of my life, and I am in complete awe. As a writer, you would think that I would know just what to say, but alas, even writers are at a loss for words sometimes. I don’t know how this is going to come out, but I am going to try my best.

I have been listening to East of Eli’s music since his first EP, “Nothing Ordinary,” came out in 2014 (if you haven’t heard it, check it out). I was lucky enough to see EOE at The Troubadour in LA in March, and seeing him live for the first time was like a dream. Nathan was absolutely amazing, and I knew that I wanted to see him again. So when he announced a concert in New York, I wanted to go. I had never been to New York, and what better excuse to go than to see an artist that has impacted you so much, am I right? Anyway, I looked at the date and realized that it was going to be during my spring break (I’m a writing student at the Vancouver Film School), and I was already planning on going home to KC to visit family and friends. I immediately thought of my sister, and figured that maybe we could make a little sister trip out of it. Unfortunately, the concert was a 21+ venue and my sister is only 15, so that wouldn’t work. Luckily, EOE was able to sell out that venue, so that allowed them to set up another concert the same week for all ages. At that moment, I was like, “I don’t know how I’m going to make this happen, but I am going to get my sister and I to that show if it’s the last thing I do!” And I did! After lots of negotiating with my parents, they finally agreed to let us go. So the week of my spring break came around, and I got to catch up with family and friends. Yesterday morning, my sister and I got up at 4am to make our flight to New York. After a layover and a grounded plane in Milwaukee, we finally made it to New York. I love cities, they just amaze me, so as soon as we were outside of the airport, I was ready to explore. My poor sister on the other hand is a country girl at heart. She lives for trap shooting and riding dirt bikes (we are the complete opposite in every way, but we are really great friends), so she was not as thrilled about being in the big city. After getting lost with our cab driver, and an hour drive to our hotel took us three hours, we were tired, but we knew we should try and see some of the city. So of course, me being the pizza lover that I am (I even brought my PJ pants that have pizza hearts all over them with me), told my sister we had to try authentic NY pizza while we were there, so we did. I was stuffed by the end of it, but it was definitely delicious. We then decided to embark on an adventure and take the subway to Central Park (luckily I’ve had experience with subways in Vancouver and in Berlin, so it wasn’t that difficult to figure out). Central Park was really pretty, but we didn’t get to stay long because we had to get back to our hotel to get ready for the concert.

Now, the concert. The concert is where the real magic began. We get to the venue and the line is insane to get in which just fills my heart with such joy to see so many people coming out to support Nathan and Chyler. We finally get inside and it’s about 15 minutes or so before EOE comes out. Now, for those who don’t know, this past week has been a rocky road for Nathan and his family. Last Monday, he got a call telling him that his father was losing his battle with cancer. He spent that next week by his side, and he wanted to cancel the shows (rightfully so), but his dad said no. His dad’s wish for him was to “carry on” (from “The Siege,” which according to Nathan is his dad’s favorite song) and play these shows in New York. I can only imagine how difficult it was for Nathan to have to make that choice, knowing that at any moment, his dad could no longer be on this earth. But Nathan made the choice, and he chose to follow his father’s wishes and continue on to NY. That only made me admire Nathan more than I already did because that kind of choice takes an enormous amount of strength. This just showed more clearly the depth of his character and the size of his heart. I have such respect for him. Then on top of that, yesterday, T-Mobile shut of Nathan and Chyler’s phone numbers, so they had no way of contacting each other. Luckily, Nathan and Chyler have some of the most amazing fans out there, and they were able to get the attention of the CEO of T-Mobile. Because of all of this, they got their phone numbers back. There is power in numbers, and when you set your mind to something, there really is nothing you can’t do. This was such a great example of that. You would think that this was enough adversity for one family in one week, but sadly this was not the last part of sad news. Nathan announced when he got on stage that there were some issues with Chyler’s flight and she was currently grounded in Toronto. Chyler was of course upset because she had missed Tuesdays’s concert to be with her kids and family in LA, and so she wanted to be here. Of course, everyone was sad, but it was understandable. Things happen, they suck, but we have to make the most of the situation and just keep going. Nathan and Chyler, being the awesome humans that they are, said that they were going to do everything in their power to get Chyler there and to make sure she got to meet every single person. Nathan continued on with the show, adding in some fun things to try and drag out the time, especially when we found out that Chyler was finally in the air and so she was on her way. Like always, he was amazing! His voice is incredible, and his lyrics are beyond compare. I have to say, EOE at The Troubadour was great, but there was something extra special about last night. Nathan brought multiple fans onto the stage, he goofed off, and he even tried singing a song from his first EP. The last one was the best because he’s only human, and so he was having a hard time remembering all of the words. The concert eventually ended, but he wanted us to hang out until Chyler could get there. We went to the front room, and I went with my sister towards the bar area and sat. Chyler showed up like 30 minutes later, and everyone was so excited. Chyler is a trooper. She was going on maybe two hours of sleep after finishing up her last scene of the season on Supergirl, and yet she was still here for her fans. Nathan and Chyler performed two songs together acoustically, and it was beautiful. After that, they made their way to an area of the room to do meet and greets. I stayed with my sister at the bar because: 1. just being in super large crowds in enclosed spaces makes be kind of anxious and 2. I had met Chyler briefly before, so I wanted to make sure everyone else got their chance. If I did’ t get to say hi, it wasn’t as big of a deal. So I was at the bar, and I started talking with the bartenders. John and Eric were so much fun! They offered up so awesome conversation, and they were great company while I was there with my sister. My sister and I had a blast chatting with them, and then Dre, the security guard, when he came and joined us (Dre actually thought I was an undercover cop, so that was both funny and awesome at the same time). I want to take a quick moment to thank all of the people working last night at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn because they went above and beyond for us. This definitely includes John and Eric. John was sweet and he gave me a RedBull for free since I was tired, and then when he went to the store, he got my sister a banana. It was nice to make a friend in NY that said that if we were ever there again, they have an extra bed that we could crash in. I also got a sweet fox mask thing from Dre as a souvenir, so that’s pretty cool. Nathan came over at one point to thank John and Eric himself. He told them about everything that had happened that day, and how much it meant to him that they were doing this for us. John and Eric continued to keep my sister and I company until we ended up having to move outside because the bar was closing. My sister and I got in line outside and began waiting our turn. Nathan, again, being the amazing human he is, decided to give each of us still waiting a t-shirt for free. My sister and I were at the end of the line, so when he got to us, he stayed and talked for a minute. The first words out of my sister’s mouth were, “Brr it’s cold out here,” so Nathan so properly responded with, “There must be some Torros in the atmosphere.” My sister, whom I’ve been trying for a while to get to watch Bring It On, just stood there. I high-fived Nathan of course, because the reference was just beautiful. Gotta love some Jan the man. He then gave my sister a giant hug because she was absolutely exhausted. He was like a dad comforting his daughter, and it was such an amazing sight to see. He is just so genuine, and I can’t believe I’ve had the honor of meeting him. We eventually made it up to the front of the line to talk to Chyler, and Chyler gave my sister the biggest hug in the world. Like I said before, I have had the incredible pleasure of meeting Chyler before, but the only thing I’ve gotten to say to her was hi and that’s about it, so I was looking forward to a hug (my friend, Dened, has gotten many from her and she likes to say how great they are). I finally got my hug, and it was great. She’s just so sweet, gentle and kind, so of course her hug was very comforting. There was so much that I wanted to say, but I didn’t want to keep my sister out any longer. She had already came all the way to NY just for me, and was out at 5am when she had only gotten three hours of sleep the night before. My sister is a rockstar, and I am pretty lucky to have her (even if we disagree on 90% of things).

Last night, only proceeded to reaffirm all of my beliefs about Nathan and Chyler. I love what they are doing. They are using their power of influence to not only impact and change the community around them, but also the global community. They are such amazing people with huge hearts. They believe in family, and putting family first. Even though we aren’t their direct family, they treated us like family last night. They took their time, as tired as they were, to speak to each and every one of us. I admire them so much for that. What I love about them, is that they are open about their old baggage and dirty laundry, letting it be known, so that they can hopefully inspire others. They don’t try and hide their faults or their downfalls (we are all human after all). Along with that, I love the representation they are for the Christian community. Too many times nowadays, when people hear you are a Christian, they automatically assume you are going to be judgmental and rude, which sadly is not too far off for a lot of them. Chyler and Nathan on the other hand, are great embodiments of what it truly means to be a Christian (in my opinion). They show so much love to everyone, and Chyler is such an example, especially as she is playing the character of Alex Danvers on The CW’s, Supergirl. On the show, Alex recently realized that she was gay when Detective Maggie Sawyer entered her life. They are now together and are so cutely named, Sanvers. I think that this is one of the greatest things she could be doing for many reasons. One, her relationship on the show is such a healthy example of a relationship (especially for a queer couple). Then, I feel like this is a great thing because she is a Christian. She is showing that love is love, and it shouldn’t matter as long as you love each other. I think that that is a beautiful thing. I admired her so much more when this storyline came to be because of the impact I knew it would have. I struggle with being a Christian and supporting the LGBTQ community because so many Christians are so against it. I just don’t understand how a God who loves all (even the murderers), could hate someone who happens to fall in love with someone of the same sex. And Chyler has been outspoken about this as well. I remember watching an interview where she talked about this, and I cried. I cried because it was great to see someone with such influence who has the same beliefs as me. I am so grateful that Nathan and Chyler are in this world, spreading love and kindness with all that they do. Thank you for being prime examples of what it means to be human, and to love your neighbor. Thank you for taking so much time out of your day last night (and this morning) to meet each and every one of your fans. Most people wouldn’t do something like that, so thank you. You two are true heroes, and I pray that God blesses you immensely. I also pray that as your family is going through this difficult time, that you are able to find solace in him and in each other. Thank you again for everything. Thank you for being the role models this world needs. Thank you for inspiring others with your music and your words. Thank you for being superheroes to us all. Thank you.

Wow! This was a lot more than I thought I was going to say, but I wanted to get this all out. The past 24 hours truly has been magical, and I will never forget it. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I can’t wait until I get to see this amazing band again in July when they perform at The Roxy along with City of Sound and State to State (both of whom are amazing and deserve your attention as well). Thank you for taking your time to read this, it means a lot. I hope everyone has a great day!

I was a little inspired by @hidan-chan-my-foot cuz they suggested me to redraw some caps from memorable EP 445 too! (not the art my foot tho! But who knows,I loved these scenes too much so)

This one was the best kakuhida moment in this ep. How Hidan was filled with anger, and in the moment Kakuzu sayed: Let’s go Hidan he just went so cute and surprised for a moment ❤ And then back to anger again XD

I hope to update here tommorow too, because i’m working on something recently.

It’s honestly so important after all of Charles’ pain this season and in past seasons that we finally get to see how much Liza truly loves him back. Like in the last episode we saw Charles jealous over Liza and Jay and she was trying her best not to get involved with Charles and Pauline. But now she’s the one who is much more jealous while Charles is doing his best to move on. It reminds me of how Charles could deal with Liza being with Josh and Liza could handle Charles being with [Charles’ gf that I can’t remember from last season], but now they’ve started to grow closer and their little crushes has turned into love and being outwardly jealous over each other and it’s beautiful. Especially since the last scene of the ep was the most obvious scene that’s proof of Liza having feelings for Charles other than lust and ughh i love them so much

I'll Say This ...

Iris Anne West-Allen should have been the one to uncover Savitar’s identity, the same way that Joe West had strong suspicions about “Dr. Wells” in S1. How the writers could have a smart, persistent, investigative journalist uncover a housing scam, an illegal drag racing circuit, and an illicit weapons ring but not be totally consumed with piecing together the identity of her near-future killer is be-yond me!

I cannot think of any major network (that was a dig, CW) that would waste a character or an actress’ talent this way. They would have had Iris hot on Savitar’s trail from Ep. 10, and by Ep. 16 she would have been close to figuring it out.

And then they would have had Candice carry an entire scene alone, maybe half an episode, where she breaks down. Let me find out that my fiance – the boy I grew up with, my best friend, and the one I love more than anything in this world – somehow even a piece of him becomes the monster who kills me!

I’m glad that WestAllen has moved forward, but for goodness’ sake! How monumentally hard is it for a team and a few showrunners create a realistic emotional arc for Iris, other than the beautiful, perfectly polished, perfectly rational and sensible, all-forgiving love interest and devoted daughter we’ve seen here? I love the fact that Iris is so kind and selfless, but the show doesn’t demonstrate how she comes about that kind of mentality?

As a character, Iris West was owed a freak out over her father keeping her from her mother. Him moving on with Cecile might have made her a little tentative – she doesn’t strike me as the type to punish Cecile – before finding her own closure. But the knowledge that Barry is Savitar? I bet tomorrow they’ll have Iris absorb the shock in the usual saintly way:

“I’m not mad at you, Barry. I know that monster isn’t really you, Barry. We just need to figure out how to stop you, Barry, from becoming Savitar.” UGH!!

FORGET THAT!! There had BETTER be a scene at the loft where …

5. Dean, 130 Mood: TRBL
Dean made his mark on the scene with this expertly crafted EP that spotlights his versatility to handle turn-up jams and tender tunes more suited for the bedroom. With impressive collaborators on board – from Jeff Bernat to Zico – the much-too-short release just makes one all the more eager to find out where Dean will go next.

Lolirock Appreciation Week, day 4: Favorite Episode(s)

  • Season 1 ep: Xeris. Talia’s best focus ep and solidified her position as best rock. It was a surprise to get a heavy backstory episode early in the series.
  • Season 2: Super cute Kitten. The summary made it seem like it’ll be another Amaru ep and it wasn’t! 🎉 The mystery, the reveal, the fight scenes. One of the strongest eps of the season imo.
  • Two-parter: Princess Brenda. The drama, cinematography, the character development, it was very cinematic. The staff worked on the script and it shows. It was completely different from what I imagined in a good way.

I combined all three for this picture. Au where Brenda is Xerian and Bogant is her pet. BG is edited from the official blog. Runner ups: Smart, No Thanks for the Memories and Forget You.

F and V please if you can! Thank you so much!!

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I think for the most part when I manage to surprise myself when I write dialogue, then I like it best for a while. Advent had some good lines. And 100 Days of Summer did too. Plus I loved the long conversations in Dash. But a lot of that is just me getting the chance to say what I wanted to say.

But one conversation between Castle and Beckett I was really proud of was a post-ep called The Un-Natural Order, after Alexis got all huffy with Castle.

“I don’t know how this happened, Castle, but I get the sense that you’ve shouldered the blame for a lot of… everything. Whenever something goes wrong, we look to you for culpability. And yeah, it’s cute at first. I mean, we laugh about it. But. I roll my eyes at you, the boys mock you, your mother blows you off, Alexis pats you on your head…”

“This isn’t a very attractive picture,” he rumbles, shifting at her side.

She wraps her fingers around his hand and tries to keep from doing this badly. “No, it’s not. Because yes, you’re eager. And yes, you’re… childlike at times. But Castle. When did we start telling you that was wrong?”

He opens his mouth but he doesn’t answer; he can’t possibly answer.

“I do it too,” she admits. “I dismiss you for it as well. But your family - they have a tendency to make it your fault all the time. If it’s making a nasty breakfast concoction, that’s one thing. If it’s whatever has gone wrong in your relationship with your daughter… it’s not fair of them. Of us. You’re not always wrong, Rick.”

His eyes stay steady on her hand over his. She strokes her thumb over his wrist, the wide bone and the strength inherent in it.

“I’ve done things… I wish someone had called me on all of it. Done things to you.” She works her throat around the words that she needs to say, finds it more difficult than she expected. “To you and to my own father. To my friends. I’ve been a bitch and selfish, and it took me a while to figure that out. Took, um, therapy.” She laughs a little and lets her eyes drift to the window. “And you walking away from me. And nearly dying for something that… no one should die for any longer.”

“You’re supposed to just be listening,” she rebukes gruffly. She has to clear her throat to keep going. “Someone should call Alexis on it too.”

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Ung, wow, okay. I can tell you I was writing Flashlight in my head when that was in the middle of things and I was waiting agonizingly for a new chapter, but once it was over, then it was over, and that’s the ending. I felt like that story doesn’t need more to it, though of course I’d take it.

Um, and then gasp and stutter of a heart by dave-ck. I desperately want more of that. Desperately.

And Dandelions by daphnebeauty was just - ungggg kill me I want another so badly so maybe I’d write it, maybe?

Actually for the most part, the thing I love about reading other people’s fics is that I didn’t write it, I don’t know what comes next. The surprise. So I don’t know that I’d want to write it, and spoil that kind of thing.

Kitty’s Storyline in Elementary as of S03E06 (tw: rape) (spoilers)

[image of a white woman, long brown hair, the character Kitty Winter from Elementary, leaning against a doorway with arms crossed. Dark gray unzipped hoodie, light gray shirt, black pants]

Ok, I have to admit - as previously mentioned, when I first met Kitty, I was dreading this “girl-on-girl” jealous rivalry between her and Joan for Sherlock’s attention. I was like ugh really writers? ugh am I going to watch this? I’ll give it a few eps

And it was definitely worth those eps. Kitty has probably one of the best written storylines about rape I’ve seen or read in American media.

Let’s start. I’d like to talk about 3 scenes in particular.

First, the scene in which we learn about Kitty’s backstory.

Sherlock says, “Kitty was the victim of a horrific crime.”

He doesn’t say what happened to her. We aren’t presented with visuals. It’s not about voyeurism. It’s about Kitty.

And then Joan reads about Kitty’s rape in a file after having been invited by Kitty to do so

I’ll repeat - Joan does not read Kitty’s file without Kitty’s consent

(And - though Sherlock gives Joan the file without consent - he does not allow Kitty to remain ignorant about his actions - he informs her almost immediately that he has given her personal information to a third party and explains himself)

So this is an image of rape from the average Western tv show:

No, there is no image. I’ve included no image because we all know what it looks like, we see these images repeatedly.

Here’s an image of rape in Elementary:

[image of an Asian American woman, the character Joan Watson played by Lucy Liu, reading some papers with a glass of white wine in the foreground and bookshelves in the background]

We don’t see the contents of the file. Nor are the contents of the file are described to us. The image of violence is *not for us* - because it’s not about the violence - it’s about Kitty. The viewer is not invited to see Kitty’s personal nightmare - she has not given *us* her consent.

As soon as I saw this scene, I knew I was right to continue to watching this show. How rare is it to see a show/read a book about rape that doesn’t include the voyeurism of rape in it? Honestly, that’s one of the things that I most hated about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I know it’s supposed to be anti-rape and all - but by my reading, it’s still a male fantasy version of anti-rape. I read the book years ago, and I still have the visual image of a man stuffing a live dove up a woman’s vagina. Why is that image necessary to the storyline?

It isn’t.

Here was what was necessary to the storyline:

The victims suffered a horrific crime.

That’s all we need. Use your imagination. On screen voyeurism not necessary.

So again, this scene alone has me admiring the brilliance of the writing and directing of Elementary.

The interaction with Captain Gregson and his daughter after he has punched his daughter’s partner (work partner and sex partner) for physically abusing his daughter. Again we don’t see the punch.

‘Punching a bad guy in the face’ is a (white cis) male power fantasy - using violence to act out the white knight protecting a damsel in distress - whether she wants him to or not

Instead, we are introduced to the matter with Gregson being castigated by a higher up.

And then the daughter remonstrates with him. The contents of that conversation are also astutely written and I might write another post about them.

But since this post is about Kitty - Kitty and Gregson’s conversation about whether or not he has the right to undermine his daughter’s decisions about her life for the purposes of male protection. Kitty tells him - no you don’t. Just flat out - no. Your daughter is an adult. You’re doing the right thing to abide by your adult daughter’s decisions about her own life. Gahhh! This show!!!

(note - any quotation without quotations marks is not a quotation - it is an interpreted paraphrase.)

And then Kitty protects the daughter by scaring away the partner from the precinct. At the time I watched, I was like - well, that’s a good solution, but a little too neat, a little too convenient - ok. It’s nice to see women who have suffered sexual violence protecting other women who have suffered violence from a romantic partner.

But **combined with the next episode** Kitty’s protection of the daughter is brilliant.

Which brings me to:

Third - the pair of scenes between Joan and Sherlock then Sherlock and Kitty.

Joan has noticed that Sherlock has been sneakily giving busywork to Kitty because he doesn’t want Kitty to date some dude she met in the coffee shop.

This is a problem for several reasons

  1. Sherlock doesn’t have the right to be jealous of Kitty’s time
  2. Sherlock doesn’t have the right to determine who is appropriate for Kitty or when it is appropriate for her to start dating
  3. Sherlock is lying about the reasons he’s giving Kitty busywork and thereby manipulating her (I forget if Joan actually states this third reason, but if not, I am)

And Sherlock confronts Joan - you aren’t Kitty! Who are you to know this girl’s life just because you read her file!

And Joan confronts Sherlock - you have no right to determine what is progress for her when she makes her own progress!

And the beauty of it is - they are both right. Joan, as a counselor, is tempted to counsel Kitty instead of just being a friend - and Kitty is aware of that, she goes to the survivor circle because Joan wants her to and because Joan was Sherlock’s partner first - there is a power dynamic there. Joan also bases a lot of her reaction to Kitty on her own experience with Sherlock - which comes from a very different place than Kitty’s relationship with Sherlock. Yet Sherlock **doesn’t** have the right to manipulate Kitty’s agency any more than Gregson has the right to undermine his daughter’s agency.

So in the next scene, Sherlock asks Kitty to have a conversation with him and states - I’ve been manipulating your time and impeding your progress when I don’t have a right to. That was a mistake. I should have trusted you, your self-knowledge and agency, to determine your own progress. (and i’m sorry, i know i’ve said it but man! the way this show writes characters who engage in introspective personal growth! can you imagine season 1 sherlock saying this? no way!)

And her response is - I know. I know what you’ve been doing and I’ve allowed you to, because your protection makes me feel cared for and loved.

Like, pause. On American TV, we’ve definitely made the transition in writing to have former portrayals of the rape victim, damsel in distress, become the rape survivor - tough as nails. Has PTSD but is handling it. That’s it’s own trope. Tasha Yar on Star Trek is motivated by her past to become the tough as nails security officer, constantly escaping rape gangs. Even Jessica Jones (which is brilliant specifically in its portrayal of PTSD) doesn’t have people **care** for her. Girl with a Dragon Tattoo? She’s burning stuff down and blowing people up - which is great, nothing against that anger. But where is the care for her, the tenderness?

Here is a reminder to us then - yeah, I’m Kitty, I’m a detective, and I need love. I deserve love. I recognize this love and accept it for myself.

I just - this line just…is excellent. It’s not an either/or. Survivors aren’t damsels in distress or oh-so-damaged terrorizing badasses - there’s room for love without stifling. And each person’s journey and each relationship navigated is different.

And so Kitty’s protection of Gregson’s daughter - yes it’s convenient for the show. But she’s also coming from a place of deep empathy.

May I also mention how brave it is for Kitty to verbalize both her acceptance of and continued desire for Sherlock’s care? This act of trust and vulnerability is one of her most courageous moments.

So what does Sherlock do? Does he gloat like, oh, I was right to manipulate her all along? No. He was still in the wrong.

But now he knows that Kitty wants his protection. He has her informed consent.

So, he offers her a choice. He

  1. Gives her more free time *to do with as she will* stay in, go out, take music lessons, date, whichever
  2. Offers her an opportunity to be in a date-like situation- *with Sherlock as backup* i.e. Knowing that Kitty wants his care, Sherlock offers her more care.

So basically, yeah. I’m not even halfway through season 3 and I’m just blown away.
