one of my favourite magic scenes

top 5 harry moments

  • WALKING TO THE FOREST TO DIE everything from Harry waking up in Dumbledore’s office to Voldemort killing him is just exquisite — Harry’s realisation that Dumbledore had been grooming him for death and Harry being hyperaware of his own body, “brain and nerve and bounding heart” is all so gorgeous and sad and wonderful, and he’s so brave. HE’S SO BRAVE. I’M SO FUCKING SAD IT’S BEEN 7 YEARS
  • destroying Dumbledore’s office I love this scene because after 4 books of Harry keeping shit to himself and sitting on his feelings you get lots of minor, small explosions post-Cedric dying and then THIS, it’s a NUCLEAR BOMB OF ANGER and it’s so satisfying to read but also the most painful thing in the world, ever
  • politely asking the sphinx to move, please this cracks me up every time. if someone was like show me ONE THING that DEFINES Harry James Potter AS A HUMAN AND A CHARACTER I would show them this scene. life-threatening wizard competition. dangerous magical creature. “can you move, please?” my son
  • torturing Amycus after he spit on McGonagall this means A Lot to me because Harry just straight up crucios that fucker without any hesitation or warm-up and puts so much feeling behind it. anything where Harry is morally grey is my favourite because he’s The Saviour and the Master of Death and it’s like yeah, and he just crucio’d a dude so hard he flew across the room and passed out
  • “you don’t have to call me ‘sir’, professor" any scene where Harry backchats Snape is fantastic but I distinctly remember reading this scene and being like OOOHHHH OOOOOHHHH SICK BUUURRNNNN OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH

hey! i don't know if this has already been asked but seeing your mobile post for that huge list of fics i wonder if you could do another one but, like, including every trope? you don't have to of course, but it's a bit difficult on mobile so yeah, thank you!!!

Hi Nonny!

I’m not really sure what you mean by this. The reason I did that with the Pining Fics was because it was so long. I’m going to assume you mean you want a list of my fic recs :P Here’s an updated one!

“Ask the Community” RECS:

Faeries in Films

Fairytale: A True Story (1997)

Set in Yorkshire, Fairytale retells the story of the famous Cottingly Fairies, and of the two cousins who discovered them. Elsie and Frances were a big deal back in 1920: their photographs of fairies sparked the interest of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who had them published in The Strand Magazine, making them kinda famous. A very heartfelt and magical movie. Chance of seeing real fairies 10/10.

Strange Magic (2015)

Love sword-fighting fairy princesses? Look no further because Marianne’s your girl. Seriously, the coolest character I know. Anyway, she’s a badass who fights the Goblin King (see above, his name’s Bog) to save her sister Dawn, and there’s a lot of singing and love potions and beating up douchebags and just generally Marianne having to deal with all the shit that goes down in her kingdom…. It’s so awesome. Based off Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Magical Legend of The Leprechauns (1999)

It’s a Romeo-and-Juliet inspired film between a fairy princess and a leprechaun. If you can excuse the poor quality and the weird side-plot about their human neighbours, you’ll find that Mickey’s gang is hilarious, the love story kind of cute, and the soundtrack very faerie-esque. There’s one scene where they just make a bunch of Irish dancers and just… dance? And the Leprechaun boys go to the fairy ball disguised as Leprechauns? This fucking film, man.

Peter Pan (2003)

This boy is so fae it’s unreal. As well as having a beautiful scene in which Peter and Wendy watch the Faerie Prince and Princess dance, it’s also one of my favourite Peter Pan adaptations. Amazing visuals, soundtrack, cast, and its Tinkerbell is hilariously wonderful.

Part 2 (x)

Madancy Ships

I’m going to start up a little For Me list so i can follow these ‘shipping Hugh and Mads characters’ things y’all do. Hugh First, Mads Second.

SadDogs-  (my personal favourite)

Will Graham (Hannibal) -  FBI special agent, antisocial, magical empathy powers, adopted 27 stray dogs. Had Encephilitus and is accused of being a serial killer. Defeats charges by dating/sweet-talking a serial killing cannibal in order to get proof.

Lucas (Jagten)- A very sad divorcee estranged dad kindergarten teacher, falsely accused by his small town of molestation. Ruins his life. It is proven that he is innocent of all charges but still his town hates him and kill his dog and attack him. Who would understand false accusations, quiet country living and flannel shirts like Lucas? No one. They are perfect for each other

Adam Raki (adam)– Aspergers new york guy, youngish, loves space, helpful

Nigel (charlie countryman)- Romanian druglord guy who falls in love intensely and instantly and refuses to let go. Violent, curses, usually is actively dealing with his wife divorcing him from the other end of the planet.

Basic Chickens-

Adam Towers (Basic instinct)- I think he’s in a threesome scene.

Elias (men & chickens)- He cries. His dick is large enough to kill a man.

? (Black Hawk Down) - No clue. War movie.

? (Death Stranding) -No clue. Future gooey-eyes army man.

Tristan (King Arthur) - No clue

Galahad (King Arthur)- No clue

Cal Roberts (the Path)- No clue. I think he MIGHT be a cult leader.

Kaecilius (Doctor Strange) - Magic reality-bending monk-guy who wants to be immortal. Kind of funny and very clever. Nice Hair. Can hop  dimensions

((some additions from @hotsauce418 ))

Valhalla Enchanted-

Prince Charmont (Ella Enchanted)- Friendly and practically a popstar, well meaning but kind of airheaded. Id have to rewatch to remember more, but this is my #1 favourite book and #1 least fav movie so.

One Eye (Valhalla Rising)- A viking with one eye, i assume

Royale instinct-

Adam Towers (Basic Instinct)-  think he’s in a threesome scene.

Le Chiffre (Casino Royale)- An accountant with asthma, his scarred eye randomly cries 1 dramatic blood-tear, and he loves card games. the concept of this nerd being scary is just baffling.

Roberto Bellini (Trial and Retribution)- No clue

Tonny (Pusher)- Drug Pusher guy with ugly tattoos

Will Graham (Hannibal)- FBI special agent, antisocial, magical empathy powers, adopted 27 stray dogs. Had Encephilitus and is accused of being a serial killer. Defeats charges by dating/sweet-talking Hannibal. Goes on a journey to europe to get revenge but is too in love to go through with it. Makes bad choices.

Nigel (charlie countryman)-  Romanian druglord guy who falls in love intensely and instantly and refuses to let go. Violent, curses, usually is actively dealing with his wife divorcing him. Has a shirt with a weiner dog on it?

Roberto Bellini (Trial and Retribution)- No clue

Allan Fischer (Resjeholdet)- No clue. Police Procedual?

(new additions from @strange-book-club )

Strange Book Club-

Grigg Haris (The Jane Austen Book Club)- .he bikes, he likes dogs, he reads jane austin and loves science fiction. he looks very soft in the trailer

Kaecilius (Doctor Strange) - Magic reality-bending monk-guy who wants to be immortal. Kind of funny and very clever. Nice Hair. Can hop  dimensions

Rochetagen -

D'artagen (Young Blades) - nnno idea. I assume he uses the sword

Rochefort (The Three Musketeers) - One eye, violent, steampunk universe, very fancy and strong swordsman who knows he’s the villain and so is perfectly happy to cheat. A little bit of a manbaby that can’t shake off an insult without reacting, but pretty nonetheless

I know there are others, this is for me, i will update them when i come across more

We’ve been working on an animated typography project in college for the past two weeks, so I went with one of my favourite TAZ scenes; Angus’s first magic lesson. I had a lot of fun with it, even if it did turn out a little plain! Enjoy?

EDIT: Just realised I have like 20 seconds of dead air at the end and i dONT KNOW HOW TO TRIM IT

Awesome Angry Fairy Princess

One reason why I love Strange Magic is that Marianne is allowed to be ANGRY. I’m not referring to her facial expression, not that that isn’t awesome, too.

Roland betrayed her, and even when her father sides with that ass, she refuses to swallow the shit Roland’s trying to hand her and smile and give him another chance like a “good girl” should, but kicks his ass instead. The “Stronger” scene is where I fell in love with the movie, and it’s still one of my favourite parts.

Instead of absorbing abuse and making herself as small and accomodating to others as possible, she respects herself and takes care of herself.

And while the movie goes on to show that isolating herself completely is harmful and opening up to someone who deserves this trust is a good thing, I never had the impression it tried to paint her initial reaction as wrong — I read it so that she needed the time and focus on herself to heal.

There is so much pressure on girls and women to neglect their own needs and feelings and “be nice” and “just give him a chance”, and stories that treat female characters as things and trophies where of course the guy who wants a certain gal gets her in the end, Strange Magic was for me a very needed breath of fresh air.

My finished painting of Yevaud, the dragon of Pendor from the Earthsea saga. I actually think, he wasn’t golden, but I like golden stuff and it fits the picture :>
It was great fun drawing a dragon again, which isn’t as anthropomorphic as the usual stuff I get commissioned for.

I put the steps up here aswell (will delete the original posts tho).

Earthsea was and still is one of my favourite book series, because it has no epic fantasy war going on (this gets old tbh), I like the overall travelling theme - especially travelling the sea - the ‘magic system’ and the dragons (willing to do Kalessin aswell, the scene of him sitting in the mist after they had beaten Cob).

anonymous asked:

Great malec fic recs! I was wondering if you also know good ones set in the canon universe?💕

Hey anon! Sorry for the late reply, I had to think about this one.. Unfortunately I tend to read AUs because I like longer fics, I feel most of the fics set in canon are usually episode codas or missing scenes so they’re quick to read and I can’t really remember the names of them afterwards? :/  Hope these help, most of them are canon divergence though? I mentioned a few Shadow world AUs in my previous post too..

The Boundless Saga is a fave of mine, I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard in a fic. I absolutely live for angst in fic, and feel it break is just a whole new level. I was like shaking with tears. The series starts off after Magnus gives Alec back his bow and quiver, then goes pretty AU (but still in the Shadow world) after that.

Quid Pro Quo is what happens if Alec said yes to Magnus’ ‘I’ll do you pro bono’.  So starts off pretty smutty and then becomes an amazing canon divergence. I can’t really remember what happens in the later chapters to be honest cause I read it so long ago – I’ll have to do a reread now – but yes I remember absolutely loving it.

So I mentioned Lemonoclefox in my previous post, I totally forgot but she also wrote So Bright which I love. Our usual favourite fake dating trope, but set in the canon universe.

Heartsdesire456 writes some great codas, canon divergence fics and one shots set in the Shadow world. I particularly loved A Different Kind of Hero (shadowhunters write to Alec thanking him for kissing Magnus at his wedding, oh it’s so touching and I totally cried). Also not canon but just looking through I totally forgot to rec A Fighting Chance (dancer!Magnus and fighter!Alec) and The Magic In His Kiss (harrypotter!au) in my previous post! They’re both so good omg.

Lemur710 has some great codas and missing scenes, Binding Spell is particularly great because Of Men and Angels is one of my fave malec episodes.

Home, written by otppurefuckingmagic (aka as the creator of In the Sin Bin) so you know it’s great. She’s also written Ascension which is total canon divergence, I won’t give the plot away now but think wings.

Pillow talk is just super cute and basically how Alec and Magnus just start dating and fall in love in the canon universe, it’s such a lovely read.

And I’m terrible and can’t remember a lot of these (I’ve probably read them? I may have to read them again though) but I spoke to my best gal @dimshums about canon fic when I got this ask and she’s sent me these:

The Right Kind Of Love

You Are Certainly My Poison of Choice

In the Rain, I’ll Give You Sunshine

Until we go down

Hope that’s what you were looking for and you enjoy reading! I’ll probably have to read a few of these myself now so it’s a good reminder for me too. Also go follow Jill (dimshums), she’s the best.

O xx

Why you should listen to the adventure zone- a abbreviated sprawl of text as to why I love and will continue to listen to the podcast no matter what direction it takes next.

As an artist (while not a podcaster/producer of audio drama) I can appreciate the thought , commitment and Love that is put into every single episode of the adventure zone. A podcast that started out as three brothers and their dad playing some dnd as a one off episode/adventure spiralled and grew into a beautiful hilarious dnd arc broken down into episode after episode of adventure, excitement , laughs and most of all story. No matter which episode you pick non of them feel like they stray from a story there’s always progress even if that’s making mistakes, dying and finding out you come back again (the 11th hour) or harrasing a certain rainbow bowtied wizard attendant Jenkins (murder on the Rockport limited). Or merle’s you know….. Scene with the plants (eghk) in the petal to the metal arc. Every scene has some sort of progression to the story or helps us learn more about the characters.

As a person interested in creating a podcast in the future I adore The adventure zone for it’s music , the fact that Griffin McElroy produces atleast 1 song an episode while editing them together shows just how much commitment and love is put into each episode for the listeners to enjoy. The characters have their own voices and characteristics and it isn’t too formal heck one of the funniest characters I can think of off the top of my head is fantasy Garfield the deals warlock and magic Brian both because of how silly they are but that the idea of a fantasy Costco makes imagining the scene SO much easier to imagine and thus see this Garfield the cat making shifty deals in it.

And talking about Garfield the deals warlock that brings me onto my FAVOURITE part of The adventure zone. The foreshadowing and the plot twists.
The content is so detailed and has enough foreshadowing and hints that the listeners (us) can geuss and theories about plot twists and what will happen next. The plot twists leave you gasping (literally I was gasping and trying not to Lose my mind when a certain character turned up episode 65). The audience feels immersed into each episode and wants to know what’s going to happen to the characters because you begin to love the characters and want to know what’s going to happen next. I hope to one day be able to create such interesting and compassionate content too.

And finally as a listener the adventure zone is exactly as it reads on the tin. An Adventure. You go into each episode not quite knowing what to expect and come out with quotable and drawable content that makes you laugh, cry and listen on further.

To conclude if you think you’d like:
- a jellyfish that erase memories

- a fantasy equivalent of Costco run by a warlock called garfeikd that will always have a deal for you

-a found family of adventurers
-lizard people (leople)

- adventures that cover a range of genre styles such as western, who dunnit? , Sci-Fi and fantasy (obviously).

- the power of fantasy pringles (once you pop the time warping never stops).

And a cast that includes:

Merle highchurch:
-a dwarf cleric who pulled a fifty shades of grey scene on some plants to get into a robbery. And with the support of pan wants to spread the word with his Extreme teen Bible in hand.

Magnus burnsides
-a human fighter who only wants dogs to be allowed on the moon (lucretia please?). And like a monarch butterfly rushes in to any situation. He can carve you a mean rocking chair and an even meaner wooden duck.

Taako Taaco (you know? from tv!)
-a elf wizard that not only seduced a bugbear (accidentally) but the HECKING GRIM REAPER. Oh and also has a flaming hot umbra staff (a umbrella that works as a magic staff).

And more wonderful wonderful characters and faces like:
Barry blue jeans,
Team sweet flips- Killian, Carey fangbattle and No3113 (Noelle) ,
Angus McDonald! The best kid detective,
Sloane and hurley! The battlekart racers
And the director Lucretia.

Every episode has heart in it and its a rollercoaster of fun , humour and magic to listen to and that’s why you should listen to the adventure zone.

(feel free to add your reasons for listening to the adventure zone or some of the characters that you think would interest people in the podcast!)

Here’s my “Battle for Mewni” movie fan art.
Oh my, that movie was really amazing!

What I liked the most about it was Moon’s character development. She’s such a good character!
She went from that poised, cold queen that Star considers as an oppressive mother disappointed by whatever she does, to this strong and beautiful woman who had a difficult past.
Like, in season 1 and good part of season 2 we got used to see her with all those jewels and her crown, and her elegant dresses. A tipical queen attire for a tipical queen behaviour.
And then, since “Face the music” we’ve been discovering a whole another side of her, a deeper one. As if we needed to remove all those fancy clothes and appearances to really understand her personality.

And then there was that scene when Toffe says Star’s gone, and Moon goes from sadness and despair to pure anger and tries to kill him, trying with her bare fists before and with magic as a second try. And then she desperately tries to stick the wand’s pieces back together to get Star back.
That was my favourite part of the movie. That scene really hit me; it was heartbreaking, but in a good way.
We finally saw moon playing the role of the mother, and in my opinion Daron and the crew made it all quite realistic!

Plus, I must say that my own family shares several traits with the Butterfly one; dad is the fun-loving and silly one, mom is the one who always wants me to be a good girl and be responsible…
I’m actually closer to my mother than to my father, so I can really understand how the mother-daughter bond works. And this transformation both Moon and Star went through was really amazing; their relationship started as the almost stereotypical situation where the rebel girl wants to break free from her mother’s oppressive way of bringing her up…to these real characters who care about each other and finally get some time to bond.

And so, I got the inspo to realize this drawing. It was supposed to be a half-figure drawing (cutting it to the waist level) but then I said “Hey, I just like Moon’s armor outfit too much to cut it like that” and so I ended up doing a full-figure drawing.

Day 3 (12th april): favourite episode(s)/scene(s) - Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk

I freaking love this episode! It’s funny, romantic and chessy! I especially love their argument in the DEO, because how can you not? It’s so over the top and their chemistry whilst fighting is so precious. Besides, how can anyone not love when Mon-El says ‘Good to see you, Dana’ in the middle of their fight. I really enjoy when my ships are butting heads with one another.

The other scene that makes this episode my favourite is the one when they finally kiss. The anticipation and the build up to this moment is very well done and when they finally kiss is MAGIC! Also, the song is perfect and they look so cute!

chelonianmobile  asked:

"Carnival of horrors" is one of my favourite tropes, any prompts for that?

  • Character A knows all the tricks to win those “unwinnable” carnival games. Character B is a magic user who has specifically enchanted the games to be unwinnable, and they find Character A’s luck to be very unnerving.
  • “We sneaked into the circus without paying, but we got caught and now we’re being punished by seeing all of the terrible, gruesome things that go on behind the scenes.” AU
  • After embarrassing themself at school, Character A volunteers to take a dare and steal the phony fortuneteller’s ball from the “monster carnival” that is passing through town. While in the middle of the act, Character A is almost caught, and ducks inside of a trailer to hide…only to be caught by the carnies who are strangely still in full monster makeup and costume.
  • “I thought running away and joining the carnival would be better than my life at home, but I was so wrong.” AU
  • While at the carnival, Character A and B find themselves in a part of the camp where everything is a lot more sinister looking, and a lot more real. When Character B gets roped into playing a riddle game, they don’t take it seriously when the price of loosing is advertised as being “their life”.

So I just finished Dghda for the second time (eeeeee) and so I decided to draw this delightfully derpy picture of one of my favourite scenes - bit of a spoiler here if you haven’t seen it? - where dirk is being like thrust against a wall by evil robot patrick (that’s my personal nickname for him) and just squeaks out ‘I have magic powers!’ I don’t know why I love particular moment so much, it probably has a depressing back story, yknow seeing as dirk denied his powers up until he got threatened but anyways… yes nice derpy pic, enjoy!👌👌

Harry/Karrin thoughts

(This post is mostly inspired by @grapefruittwostep‘s gorgeous Harry/Karrin art, because there’s nothing I love more than discussing the nature of that relationship).

So, one of my favourite understated Harry/Karrin scenes is at the start of Proven Guilty. He’s just witnessed a kid being murdered, he crashes his car, and she takes him back to his apartment to keep an eye on him, because he suffered a head injury during the crash.

I nodded and told her about the Korean kid. While I did that, she put my stole in the sink, then started washing it briskly in the cold water. “That kid is what wizards mean when they talk about warlocks,” I said. “Someone who has betrayed the purpose of magic. Gone bad, right from the start.”
She waited a moment and then said, in a quiet, dangerous voice, “They killed him here? In Chicago?”
“Yes,” I said. I felt even more tired. “This is one of our safer meeting places, apparently.”
“You saw it?”
“You didn’t stop it?”
“I couldn’t have,” I said. “There were heavyweights there, Murphy. And…” I took a deep breath. “I’m not sure they were completely in the wrong.”
“Like hell they weren’t,” she snarled. “I don’t give a good God damn what the White Council does over in England or South America or wherever they want to hang around flapping their beards. But they came here.”
“Had nothing to do with you,” I said. “Nothing to do with the law, that is. It was internal stuff. They would have done the same to that kid, no matter where they were.”
Her movements became jerky for a moment, and water splashed over the rim of the sink. Then she visibly forced herself to relax, put the stole aside, and went to work on the robe.

Despite her anger, she still looks after him and washes his Warden’s cloak without him asking. They argue, but there’s a sense that they’re sharing in the frustration of powerlessness. She’s not angry at him, so much as she is at the system he’s a part of. I mean, it’s also pretty cool seeing them conflict in such a domestic way, but it’s also a moment that makes me appreciate that even though they’re poles apart in terms of their own physical power and the geographic scale of their respective organisations, at that moment they’re equals.

Murphy watched me for a moment. “Maybe this is what it feels like for civilians when they see cops doing some of the dirty work. A lot of times they don’t understand what’s happening. They see something they don’t like and it upsets them—because they don’t have the full story, aren’t personally facing the problem, and don’t know how much worse the alternative could be.”

Karrin might not be a wizard or a Warden of the White Council, and she might only be 5′0, but she is the head of her own police department, she’s a skilled marksman, she’s an incredible martial artist. In her own world, she’s a force to be reckoned with. And regardless of how different their power levels are, one of the biggest commonalities on which their relationship is founded is that they both understand that with great power comes great responsibility. From the perspective of a lot of other characters and the audience, Karrin is extremely weak compared to almost everyone else in the series. But the power she has, she takes extreme seriously. Harry never looks down on her achievements, he never thinks her problems are any less important than his own. When he talks about her, it’s with admiration and respect. One on hand, it might just be because Harry really likes Murph, and he doesn’t think of mortals as lesser beings like many other supernatural entities do. But I think the quote above shows that even though Karrin hasn’t been in exactly the same situations, her and Harry’s lives aren’t all that different. The Merlin is Harry’s boss the way CPD is Karrin’s. There’s always red tape, and office politics. And they’ve both got to come to terms with the fact that sometimes they can’t save everyone - even kids. In Summer Knight, Harry and Karrin bond over the fact that they’ve both lost people they used to love - for Karrin, her ex-husband died of cancer. For Harry, Elaine was taken over by dark magic and died in a fire. Extremely different scenarios, but the emotions, the grief, the pain, that’s what they have in common, and it’s scenes like that that make Harry/Karrin the amazing relationship it is. Because if you take away all the magic, you’re left with real and relateable human problems, problems which they’ve both had to face at one time or another.
