Vamp!Gaston AU where he finally reveals himself to LeFou. Among all of the other glaring questions, LeFou finally manages to ask, “Is this what this was? Have you been manipulating me the entire time?”
It would make for a wonderful catch-all explanation. All of those new, novel feelings that he could never quite bring himself to address were suddenly disentangled from personal anxieties, from the abstract sense of guilt they instilled. It wasn’t his fault. These weren’t his feelings. It was something supernatural, something evil worming its way into his mind and plugging away at his neural wiring.
And yet LeFou couldn’t help but dread the answer. Despite everything, despite how bizarre and illegible it had all seemed, he couldn’t bear to look at his affections–– he face them for what they were now, there was nothing to lose when one had never had anything to begin with––for Gaston under the new reality that they’d been planted on him. He didn’t want to see the tells of inauthenticity–– the cracks, the bumps, the defects. He didn’t want to retrace the past years of his life, unravelling quite possibly the realest thing he’s ever felt, only to find a frayed end when the spool ran out.
He found he was holding his breath.
Gaston smirked, as self-appraising as ever.
“I never needed to.”
