Once Upon a Time: The Land of Untold Stories Will Unfold Differently in Storybrooke
Creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis talk about how the Untold Stories characters will intersect with our heroes in a different way than before.

An entire new set of characters have descended upon Once Upon a Time. I’m speaking of course about the inhabitants of the Land of Untold Stories, who are now taking up residence in Storybrooke.

There have been ominous warnings from Mr. Hyde (Sam Witwer) about the dangers the “refugees” possess now that they’re in town and stories they’ve put a lot of energy into hiding could now come out in the open.

Despite the danger, these new characters will function differently in the show than previous visitors to Storybrooke. Creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis spoke at a season premiere screening event about how the Land of Untold Stories fairy tales will unfold and interweave with the central character narratives.

“With the Land of Untold Stories, it’s a little bit different [than what we’ve seen in the past],” Horowitz said. “These are characters that have run away from their stories, that have left them and gone to this other place. Now they find themselves in Storybrooke and stories that might have been put on pause are resumed. So instead of stories that ended in a certain way, these are stories that were kind of mid-stream, that for whatever reasons, these characters didn’t want to see continued. It’s kind of a different way into what some of these classic characters have gone through and finding another way that they can kind of intersect with our characters.”

We’ll start to get to know these characters very soon, beginning with the Count of Monte Cristo who will appear in Episode 2. The literary master of revenge will have a connection to the Evil Queen, who obviously has a thirst for revenge herself.

“For us, when we bring in new characters, the fun of telling that story is also how it thematically links back to our characters,” Kitsis said. “In the first 10 episodes, it’s just back to our characters. The villain is obviously the Evil Queen. Rumple is also not looking very heroic right now and Zelena is caught between two sisters. We’re going to see some chaos in Storybrooke unfold, but a lot of it is going to be between our characters.”
