on letting go b sides

There’s nothing childish about caring.

nngh it STILL kinda bothers me… how in the anime they showed kid tsubomi actually being impressed with mob’s powers and then growing “bored” of them… but in the manga she actually had no interest in them in the first place, and the lines from when she was impressed in the anime were taken from an omake that was mob’s dream……

On this day in music history: June 28, 1974 - “Caribou”, the eighth studio album by Elton John is released. Produced by Gus Dudgeon, it is recorded at the Caribou Ranch in Nederland, CO and Brother Studios in Santa Monica, CA in January 1974. Completed in just nine days prior to starting a tour of Japan, it features some of John’s best known and most performed material. Producer Gus Dudgeon completes Elton’s background vocals on several songs, when the artist isn’t available to sing them himself. The album features additional musical support from guest musicians such as The Tower Of Power Horns, Dusty Springfield, Toni Tennille, and Billy Hinsche. The album spins off the top five hits “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” (#2 Pop) (featuring Beach Boys Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston on background vocals) and “The Bitch Is Back” (#4 Pop). In 1995, an expanded CD reissue is released including four tracks recorded during the sessions including his cover of “Pinball Wizard” (from the film version of The Who’s “Tommy”), “Sick City” (the non-LP B-side of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”), and the holiday single “Step Into Christmas”. Elton scores a number pop single with “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” in 1992, re-recording it as a live duet with George Michael. The profits raised from the sales of the second version are donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “Caribou” spends four weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified 2x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

LET’S GO!!!!

FIRST TIME takes place when the directions decide to meet up to discuss a reunion project and, extremely fictionally, harry and louis are like, it’s gonna be fine, everyone is a professional, we won’t get too sentimental, not tonight/i could meet you in the middle, we won’t fight, zero memories will come rushing back because it was just a dumb kid thing anyway, looking back, i followed you everywhere/we were kids just playing with truth and dare, and as long as they don’t spend any time alone together it’s nbd, but then unfortunately? their eyes meet across the conference table? it all comes rushing back? but that time is gone and they can’t get it back again, neither the first love nor the first loss, but goddamn it if you stay here/we could kiss away the goodbye/through the heartbreak/we’ll make it feel like the first time, shut up, whatever, never mind, goodbye.

do we feel like being energized and inspired by HIGHER or do we want to hear an ironic dark side? because on one hand this is the most uncomplicated and joyous love song on the album, which makes it NARRY (ever since you came i’m livin/on top of the world I can’t deny), but when you dig deeper this is also about an anxious, cynical mess whose life has been transformed by getting high with his true love in the back of a mystery van (you take me higher than the rest/oh everybody else is second best) so give it to ZOUIS if that’s the mood you’re in.

THE ONE is about nick and harry being lying liars who lie: truth is i never thought of us together/you’re just a friend of mine. spending every moment they can together, unable to stop thinking or talking about each other, we’re cookin dinner i wear your socks and slippers, but in case anyone was wondering, it’s just for the fun of it because i don’t want love, don’t want none of it and in case anyone is still wondering, it’s time to sing don’t fall in love literally sixteen times in a row.

FEVER is a song about being so crazy in love with someone you gotta steal their bike to show how you feel. on one hand you know how to be chill and keep it locked up inside, i wrote some things I didn’t send/three words to say that meant a lot to me, but on the other hand you have too much dignity and self-respect to deny your own feelings. you want a brand new start, all right/i caught your fever, I’ll be feeling it forever. ZIALL.

BODY LANGUAGE is about being friendzoned by liam despite all the magnetism, yearning, and accidental buttsex. whenever harry tries to bring up that they should be having sex instead of thinking with their brains––body language will do the trick––liam gets anxious, cagey and talkative. i just think we’re overthinking it, harry says helpfully, meaning liam should do him and shut the fuck up.

CRY is a hard call because it’s about some dude who’s too emotionally withdrawn to cry and we all know the directions are waterworks 24/7. even the ones i suspect of being secretly emotionally withholding hide their cold cold hearts behind a façade of warmth. i would use this song as a backing track for an ironic fanvid about the one direction “hiatus.” the video would have a montage of them crying and looking super mournful and then lying to me on twitter. i never really know when he’ll be leaving/and even with hello i hear goodbye/he always makes me cry-y-y, cry-y-y….

THE STORE/ROSES is about how when zayn left he was all i’m just goin to the store to the store/i’m just goin to the store but then came back as a amnesiac supersoldier woobie asssassin with a different hairstyle :( obviously liam was like i’ll always be here if you need a friend because he still knows zayn’s soul hidden deep within (i can feel you reaching through the cracks/a simple change of seasons and you’re back) but zayn isn’t ready to water the flowers of liam’s love (a simple change of heart and you attack/all the roses in the garden fade to black). it doesn’t matter. liam refuses to take any of it back. he reaches desperately for zayn through the freezing alpine winds. hold me, left to blow/please don’t let me go––
