Playing with a lazer and a cat – Voltron level

WELL, @klanced made me do this sketch ; and then @loveanimationfan came up with this idea and…

Here is the Lance & Blue comic I promised !
Omg I spent way too much time on this …
I really LOVE to draw Lance & Blue <3 My fav paladin & Lion.
(And yes, Paladins playing with their lions would be the cutest thing.)
(I will definitely draw more lion stuff.)

[ 00 - 01 - … - Halloween special - christmas special ]

hey hello friends!! i’m excited to present a new original masterpost series, #studyingwithacdemic! my blog’s “tagline” has long been ‘study with me’, and now i’d like to make that a reality. in #studyingwithacdemic, i’ll be addressing many of the problems that students encounter in their studying journeys, and offering my personal tips on how to face them!

some of these masterposts will be veeery specific while others will talk about a broader topic. however, all of them have one goal: to help you become the best student you can be! you can tag posts using these tips with either #heyacdemic or #studyingwithacdemic and i’ll be sure to reblog <3

with that aside, here’s the very first masterpost: studying a subject you hate. i know hate is a very strong word, but there are some subjects you really just can’t stand. however, there are a few different kinds of hatred:

  1. hatred because it bores you: if you don’t enjoy learning about a subject, that can certainly complicate things a little.
  2. hatred because it confuses you: sometimes you don’t like a subject because it’s not your strong suit and it frustrates you to try and understand it!
  3. hatred because of previous failures: there are some subjects i don’t like because i failed a test on it, or something of that sort, whereas i enjoy the subjects i’ve always done well on. past mistakes may influence your opinions on a subject!
  4. hatred for no reason: u serious mate?? pfft.

there’s really no set, foolproof method to tackle subjects you don’t enjoy, so in this masterpost i’ll be addressing how to study for subjects that you dislike based on why you dislike them. ok ok, without further ado:

  • use a rewards system!! if you really cannot get yourself to enjoy a subject, forcing yourself to like the subject won’t get very far. however, forcing yourself to like studying it is slightly more doable.
+ set up a way to reward yourself for bravely facing that awful subject
+ after two hours of focused studying, give yourself a pack of gummy bears or something. give yourself an incentive to study!
+ bonus points if the reward is good for you. maybe reward yourself a 30 minute run if you finish studying, cause that’ll boost your energy, be healthier than gummy bears, and be a cool reward for studying :)

  • study in different ways! have some diversity in the ways that you study!
+ experiment with timelines, mindmaps, annotating, etc. to keep things interesting while you’re taking notes.
+ also don’t hesitate to stray from your textbook and into the world wide web of info: look up youtube videos, podcasts, websites, articles, etc. to study rather than just sticking with what your teacher gives you!
+ when you’re reviewing something, don’t just stare at your notes, turn it into a game or something!! make it fun.
+ if you’re always trying new ways to study a subject, who knows, maybe one will click and you’ll start to enjoy it :)

  • associate with things you enjoy! hard to hate something that’s similar to so many things you like, right?
+ for example: you hate english? look, you’ve just shunned all of your favorite books and songs and writing in general. you hate science? sorry, my friend, it’s because of science that you’re breathing (biology) and cake exists (chemistry)
+ ps: sorry if i got those subjects wrong, i haven’t taken chem or bio yet!

  • study with the pomodoro method! here is a great masterpost by aza (@etudiance) about the pomodoro method, i really recommend taking a look!
+ this works great for subjects that bore you because you’d be studying for short blocks and have breaks in between, meaning you wouldn’t be stuck staring at a textbook for 3 hours *shudders*
+ just make sure that the time you’re spending studying is really focused studying, not just passively flipping through notes.

  • study with a friend! especially if they LOVE that subject. studying with a friend (productively) can make subjects so much more bearable!
+ as long as it’s actually studying, and not.. taking selfies or talking about unrelated subjects ////toootally haven’t done that before ahem ahem////
+ plus, if your friend adores the subject you abhor, maybe their enthusiasm will rub off on you!

  • ask your teacher for help! i swear by this one: teachers are (usually) great people who want you to succeed! no they are not evil creatures making you fail your classes for the heck of it!
+ arrange office hours or something with your teachers to go over content you’re struggling with. this is a great time to get to know your teacher as a friend and you’ll be approaching the material at a pace you’re comfortable with
+ if you’re scared of talking to your teacher (we all know the feeling!), you can always just correspond via email, and if they think you need a private meeting, they’ll most likely suggest it
+ if your teacher gives study guides or premade note thingies, always always always go through them thoroughly because that’s exactly what they think you need to study!!

  • don’t hesitate to raise your hand! everybody hates asking questions in class because they’re afraid they’ll sound dumb. don’t.
+ ask with pride because somebody out there needs you to ask that question for them! and even if you think you hear snickering (spoiler alert: that’s your imagination, silly), imagine it as a heroic deed for that-one-kid-who-needed-to-know-the-answer-to-that-particular-question-but-didn’t-bravely-raise-their-hand-like-you-did. congratulations, my friend.
+ teachers are totally fine with going through material again because if you are struggling to understand something, that’s their fault because they’re supposed to be teaching you.
+ it’s better to ask during class than struggle on a test.

  • basically, reach out to other people. if you have trouble with a subject and are starting to resent it because of that, the answer is not to self-study and cry over things, the answer is to ask for help.
+ i know because i basically wing everything and there are times when i want to slap myself for not asking a teacher, friend, or my parents for help beforehand.
+ don’t be afraid to search online, but don’t rely on it either. if you’re scraping through your english class by living on sparknotes / cliffnotes, etc. that’s clearly not going to work. it’s okay to use resources like that sometimes to help you understand content you’re really struggling with, but using those ideas (aka not your own ideas) in your homework, etc. is plagiarism. nuh-uh, not ok, don’t do it! ask for help!!
    + also the studyblr community is great!! send in asks because we will all want to give you love and support: and even if we don’t know the answer, we can direct you to another person or masterpost that can help. some people to ask are emma (@elkstudies), grace (@gracelearns), sareena (@studyign), ann (@educaticn), seo (@tbhstudying) and kimberly (@kimberlystudies) – they are absolutely lovely and seem to always have an answer <3 or you can check out @studyblrindex to find someone who studies the subject!! or just ask any studyblr honestly! feel free to ask me as well, i’d love to help if i can ;o;

  • use methods that work for you! even though diversity in study methods is great for subjects that bore you, stick with the stuff that always works for you when you’re confused.
+ do you usually get good grades when you annotate while you read? great, keep doing that!
+ don’t make the mistake of sticking with methods that don’t work, though: if annotating while you read just confuses you even more, it’s time to stop and try something new.

  • just keep working on it! hatred due to lack of understanding of the subject is probably the easiest to fix because if you work hard enough, the subject gets easy and woah omg, more bearable <3 it may seem tough now but you can do it!!
check out my motivation tag for some stuff to keep you going!
+ i personally think @chibird’s super adorable drawings are great for boosting your morale if you’re feeling down / unmotivated :) give jackie a follow!!!

  • don’t doubt yourself! you get one bad grade, then you think you’re just doomed to bad grades in the class for the rest of the semester. then you really do get bad grades because you’ve just given up. don’t let that happen!!
+ the worst thing you can do is constantly remind yourself about what you did wrong!
+ also, most of the time your “failure” wasn’t even as bad as you think!! even if it was something public and embarrassing, the only person who still remembers it is you.

  • spend less time thinking about your “mistake / failure / incident” and more time assessing what you can do better next time! this one’s a biggie. instead of resenting a subject because something bad happened that one time, it’s better to see how you can prevent it from happening again.
+ giving up isn’t an option here!!!
+ maybe for the test you got an F on, you tried a new study method that definitely didn’t work. all you have to do is stop using that method!
+ this will also take your mind off the fact that you “failed” (again, you probably didn’t), and lead you to think of it more positively (because now you know what to avoid doing in the future!)

  • don’t overdo it! one time in english class, i basically made this really dumb mistake and i cried and was miserable about it for a whole year. then, i made myself attempt to memorize the dictionary because i forgot the meaning of one word.
+ that was a huge waste of time for me, constantly reminded me of the mistake i made, kept me miserable, made me feel guilty when i couldn’t memorize a word, didn’t actually help my vocabulary, and was basically a big, fat pfffft.
+ the lesson to learn from this is: assessing what you can do better next time DOES NOT MEAN to overdo things. it just means to learn from your mistakes and try to improve <3

  • re-inspire yourself! most of the time, this subject wasn’t one you always hated. it was just that one dumb thing that made you feel miserable and queasy to even think about the subject. don’t let something so small ruin a whole subject for you!
+ check out my failure tag for some posts about dealing with failure or disappointment in the academic world!!
+ search for posts in the studyblr community related to that subject to see how wonderful that subject is! :)

  • there’s no way to make yourself not hate something if you don’t know why you hate it. ask yourself why you hate that subject so much! chances are, you don’t hate it at all!
+ try and talk / rant to someone about it (you can drop me an ask with a rant about a subject you hate – i’d be happy to try and help or just be a person you can rant to). maybe the reason will come out in the process of ranting.
+ or just journal / write for a little bit about the subject. sometimes letting your emotions loose can help!

alright, that is it for this first masterpost!! i really hope you found this helpful, since these are all my personal tips, no research or anything. if you have any questions, want to talk, want to yell at me for a bad masterpost, want to chat about your day, have any suggestions for future #studyingwithacdemic masterposts, want to request a future masterpost etc. etc. just drop me an ask and i’ll answer asap to the best of my abilities! <3 thanks for reading and have an absolutely magnificent day, xoxo hannah

I just wanted to let you know that I LOVED your recent drabbles!! Also... I absolutely do not want to make it seem like I'm telling you to write something, but I saw your tags on the Victuuri Superhero AU one talking about the idea you'd come up with involving Yuri as "Shadowkat," and I am DYING to know more about that idea of yours, it sounds so good!

omg ok so @farashasilver and i were talking about a superhero au and basically

  • yurio is shadowkat, a superhero with cat-like abilities
    • super agile and flexible
    • the ability to blend in with shadows
    • can jump off tall buildings and land on his feet no problem
  • these powers begin manifesting when he’s going through puberty
    • ”mila. mila i’m DYING”
    • “that’s puberty, yura”
  • turns out the reason yurio got these powers was because of medical experiments done on him as a kid
  • he was dying of a mysterious childhood sickness and his grandpa nikolai once worked for nikiforov tech and he begged viktor (or rather, at the time, viktor’s guardian yakov – who later is just viktor’s alfred pennyworth i guess) to save him
  • viktor did ofc and yurio recovered well but then puberty and BAM superpowers as delayed-action side effects lol
    • “wait you mean to say not everyone suddenly gets the ability to bend their arm backwards during puberty?”
  • nikiforov tech keeps tabs on yurio medically through sending doctors to check on him once in a while but once the powers start manifesting viktor swoops in personally and is like how about you learn some responsibility for those powers yura
    • “excuse me i am SHADOWKAT,” says yurio
    • “uhhuh,” says viktor, giving him a super high tech suit with training wheels ala tony stark in spiderman: homecoming
  • yurio doesn’t hate viktor so much as be perpetually exasperated by him like you are perpetually exasperated by an eccentric rich “uncle” whose idea of being a good guardian essentially amounts to giving small children high tech weapons to teach them responsibility
  • oh and also he’s engaged to local goody-two-shoes superhero yuuri katsuki who once stopped a speeding train with his bare hands and then said (and yurio is just so Done about this) that anyone could have done that
  • and viktor is completely gaga for the fact that yuuri is super strong and has seemingly endless stamina 😏😏😏
    • also, like, viktor used to come from the tony stark school of “throw money at your depression in the hopes of making it go away” so having someone like yuuri in his life is making things a loooot more bearable
    • also also yuuri is pretty much bottled sunshine with a great ass so
  • yurio will never admit he’s actually kinda happy about how happy yuuri makes viktor because he is shadowkat, goddammit
    • “you’re not allowed to tell the world you’re shadowkat until at least your eighteenth birthday,” says viktor
    • yurio flips him the bird. “can i at least tell my friends”
    • viktor rolls his eyes. “you already told them haven’t you”
  • yurio also has a crush on this seemingly dark broody senior at his school, otabek altin, who lowkey looks like he doesn’t give anyone the time of day
  • (especially not loudmouth jj leroy who is asb president, of course, and his cute band geek girlfriend isabella yang)
  • (that’s at least 80% of the reason why he likes otabek)
  • turns out otabek altin just is trying to work up the nerve to ask edgy sophomore yuri plisetsky to homecoming but that’s no one’s business
  • also yurio might have saved his life as shadowkat once or twice
  • they probably have a spiderman/mary jane thing going on
  • anyway yurio and yuuri (and viktor with his high tech superhero gadgets ala batman and iron man i guess) gotta save new york from a new terrible threat
    • which may or may not be originating from another Edgy Teen who had gotten exposed to the same medical treatments as yurio but… fell through the cracks
  • also stan lee cameos as a uhhhhh idk figure skating commentator

In their new video reacting to first bf / gf tag, they talk about onion betraying lainey for like a solid minute, and talk about how now she isn't as happy now, like why keep talking about it????

Omg, that is so fucked up! I think either they’re trying to ‘make fun’  of the haters by talking like that or they’re desperate for views so they’ll cause drama. Either that or they have no self-awareness that they’re making him look more and more abusive.

Also the hickey on her neck… it’s trashy. Give your SO hickeys, that’s fine! But don’t flaunt it WHEN YOUR FAN BASE ON AVERAGE IS NOT OF LEGAL AGE AND ARE CHILDREN. It’s disgusting kids are being exposed to sexual things like this :\ This is why people keep calling him a creep

#can we talk about this scene right fucking here!look this is so important, firstly ari millen looks like a fricking god and this gives me chest pains, look at tatianna’s hand looks so good #omg sarah knew what happened even when she was unconscious  #shes so fucking amazing #this may give us a clue on how sarah and rudy may be more closer in the future episodes #now they both have similar blood flowing through them #omg #im crying #someone help i cant get up

Eeep! So I have this au idea. Beca and Chloe have never met. Aubrey and Jesse start dating (after a Jeca breakup) and Chloe starts seeing Beca's mixes on Jesse's facebook. Beca has no chill and Chloe is... well... Chloe...

I've been thinking about that post regarding Hawke dragging Anders to the fancy Champion parties, and one thought will not stop giving me feels. Imagine, Anders quietly sneaking food into his bag off the buffet or his own plate. At first Hawke thinks he's saving it for later, but upon visiting his clinic the next day realizes he was saving it for his patients, and the kids that hang around his door.

Eeee yes, I love that because it’s totally a thing he would do? Like there’s so much there too, and even after Hawke is full, and has made sure he’s full too, there’s still be more than enough for him to take to those who really need it. Because he already gives what little food he has away to them, but whenever he can get extra, that’s better for them too. Rather than scraps of bread or whatever, they get to eat real food, and they’ll actually get enough for once. Cause he’d totally smuggle out like an entire bag of food just so he can help feed as many people as possible.

Yes, I love this omg.

You know what I want?

A program where a word pops up and it gives you a random amount of time (and has a countdown clock) to write a drabble/bit before giving you another word to write… It might just go down the page or it starts over, but saves what you’ve already written, so you can edit later.

This would be infinitely more helpful than zenwriter and writeordie, both still requiring some one with drive. :(

People explaining why they don't like Empire of Storms
  • Person: I really liked the book on its own but compared to... Er let's say the first two books it really pales in comparison
  • Me: *??????????*
  • Person: the world is confusing, there are major plot holes, certain characters are one dimensional and serve no other purpose other than to make Aelin look good
  • Me: *?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!*
  • Person: the plot drags and the characters are out of character(*if I hear this one more time*), they are nothing like they used to be
  • Me: *character development anyone?*
  • Person: like nothing makes sense? The world is a completely different world, like other places that have been previously mentioned are now nothing like they where first explained to be and she still hasn't cleaned up ALL THE PLOT AND WOLRD HOLES! Like where is my explanation as to why Nehemia died?
  • Me: *gets headache*
  • Person: and she seems to have completely forgotten about some of her characters and is pushing ships on us that none of us wanted to see-
  • Me: ahhhhhhhhh it all makes sense now
  • Person: also the sex scenes where disgusting and pointless, we didn't need to see that and honestly I don't even like Aelin anymore! She's so snarky and egotistical, just NO.
  • Me: *what????*
  • Person: I can't give it more than 3.5 on goodreads, all the characters are amazing like can I have one? But not Rowan because even though he acts exactly like the rest of the men in the series act... He's abusive
  • Me: OMG THE LOGIC!!!!

I’m back! I tried to write this up last night after my line tips post, but then I had to sleep for a decade and shower for a year because I SLEPT ON THE GODDAMN STREET. Anyway:

  • Tuesday was my birthday and I really wanted to get in that day, but alas, it was not to be. We were #7 in the line after the evening show’s tickets were all taken and some people went home rather than staying the night. I knew if we could keep that #7 spot, we had really good odds of seeing the show on Wednesday, since there are two performances, so I ended up staying overnight.
  • I didn’t think I could do it! But I did, and seeing the musical was my #1 birthday wish, so having to wait an extra 20 hours or so was worth it. The sleep deprivation did start catching up to me during the second act and I got the beginnings of a migraine, but I still enjoyed every bit of it and I cried my eyes out.
  • I couldn’t have done this without my amazing mom. She held my place in line, brought me BIRTHDAY CAKE IN LINE, brought me stuff to help me sleep once I decided to stay overnight, and made friends with like everyone in the line. I’m thrilled that I got to see it with her!
  • This sounds like an award acceptance speech or something, but I would also like to thank the other people in line for being awesome, supportive, and friendly. When I didn’t think I could sleep on the street overnight, their enthusiasm and excitement gave me a second wind. A+ humans.
  • On Sunday when we first waited for tickets, I was still hoping to get in without paying the premium price for really good seats–but then I realized how hard it is to get tickets for under $1000 AT ALL, so I decided I was willing to pay for the premium seats, especially since this was probably my only chance to see the OBC, and to see Lin in the title role before he leaves in July. So we got SIXTH ROW TICKETS, goddamn.

As for the show itself, it was just as amazing as I knew it would be.

  • UNDERSTUDIES! We had 3: Alysha Deslorieux as Peggy/Maria, Andrew Chappelle as Laurens/Philip, and Carleigh Bettiol as Eliza. I was a bit disappointed not to see ~the originals~, but also intrigued as to how the musical would change with different actors.
  • I felt bad for the understudies because every time an original cast member came out there were GIANT CHEERS. Lin, Leslie, Chris Jackson, Daveed, and Oak all got cheered during the opening number, while the understudies got nothing. They’re probably used to that, but still.
  • Alysha Deslorieux has a slightly less smoky, but still sultry, voice compared to Jasmine. She did a great job, and her “And Peggy”s had the crowd cracking up. Apparently she’s a standby for all three women, which has to be exciting.
  • Similarly, Andrew Chappelle is an understudy for five different people. It was a little jarring to see him instead of Anthony Ramos as Laurens–Ramos seems to have more of an endearing, sweet quality to him, while Chappelle is more, I don’t know, wacky?–but he was really funny, and my mom, who didn’t have any preconceptions about the role, thought he was great. (I didn’t notice as much chemistry as I was expecting/hoping between him and Lin, but that could just be my lams shippiness giving me unrealistic expectations.) He was hilarious as Philip, too.
  • Carleigh Bettiol was note-perfect as Eliza. Voice-wise especially, it was hard to tell the difference! She also had a great emotive face, especially during the “everyone cries forever” parts. Her face just crumpled up and I was like NOOOOOO.
  • I’d still love to see the three originals in these roles and hopefully I will once they FINALLY RELEASE A FILM OF THE GODDAMN SHOW, but the understudies were great too. The whole company is phenomenal!
  • Some actors apparently put their twitter and instagram handles in their Playbill bios now. What a time to be alive.
  • Speaking of which, Oak’s bio starts with “My name is Oak. I have done things,” and ends with “Shake and bake.”
  • Daveed Diggs omg. It’s almost a cliche to say so at this point, but he was amazing, and hilarious, especially as Jefferson. He milked that role for all it was worth and knew exactly how to charm the audience. His facial expressions alone! Also, I don’t know how he manages to be so tall and long-limbed and still bounce around the stage like an overexcited puppy. He’s such a star.
  • Also, there was an interview with Daveed in Playbill where he said his favorite part to perform isn’t any of his own songs–it’s the backup singing for “Wait for It,” because he loves how Leslie sings it and getting to be a part of that. <3
  • SPEAKING OF LESLIE ODOM JR. What a fan-fucking-tastic performance. He’s got this coiled energy throughout the whole show, and you keep expecting it to burst out of him, but he stands stock-still for almost all of “Wait for It” (cause u gotta wait for it, I guess) and it isn’t until “The Room Where It Happens” that he really lets it out. And he really makes you feel for Burr. All the little moments where Burr is insulted or ignored are so much more intense when you see Leslie act them out, especially at the end when Hamilton endorses Jefferson and then Jefferson refuses to work with him. It’s just heartbreaking. He’s the Smile More guy, but Leslie plays him so you can tell that often he’s smiling to conceal his disappointment and despair.
  • DAT CHOREOGRAPHY THO. I loved it so much, especially… well, especially all of it, but it gave me a new appreciation for “Hurricane,” which I’m usually meh about. While Lin is in the middle singing, the company raises various pieces of furniture and stuff in the air and dances around him really slowly, so it looks like he really is standing in the middle of a hurricane in slow-motion. I liked that a lot.
  • My other favorite bits were mostly where the whole ensemble was onstage/singing at the same time–the first ~omg chills~ moment is when they sing “you never learned to take your time” in the opening number, but there were a bunch of them. They also form a lot of excellent tableaus, like during Washington’s “check it / can I be real a second” rap. And the lighting was awesome throughout. I’m just so glad I got to see it on stage.
  • Also, the rotating bits of the stage were used to great effect. Sometimes really simple stuff, like Maria walking down the “street” while the stage turned underneath her so she took more steps than the actual distance she traveled. I think all three duels were done while the stage was turning, and I especially liked one bit near the end where Burr says the line “they row him back across the Hudson” and two ensemble members sit down next to Lin and “row” him across the stage.
  • One of my favorite moments that I wasn’t expecting was when Angelica and Hamilton first meet, during the exchange “My name is Angelica Schuyler”/“Alexander Hamilton”/“Where’s your family from,” the two of them are standing REALLY CLOSE, like they’re about to kiss, but then of course they don’t. It just gives the scene this sexually charged quality that doesn’t come across on the OBCR. Then during “The Reynolds Pamphlet,” they’re standing close again, but this time because she’s angry at him for hurting Eliza. It’s a great echo.
  • Renée-Elise Goldsberry reminded me why “Satisfied” and Angelica were both instant favorites of mine.
  • We saw a #ham4ham! It’s one of the company members, Daniel J. Watts, performing a tribute poem to Muhammad Ali. Of course it’s already up on YouTube. There’s audience participation!
  • Rory O’Malley is doing King George III right now, and he’s adorable. I sometimes skip the King George songs on the OBCR because they’re kind of repetitive once you’ve heard them all multiple times, but watching them onstage is a treat, because he hams it the fuck up and makes everybody laugh.
  • The staging of “Farmer Refuted” is really funny. Seabury gets up on a box to speak, and during the “if you repeat yourself again I’m gonna scream” part Hamilton jumps right up there with him and gets in his face, practically pushing him off the box. Thayne Jasperson is adorable btw. [heart eyes]
  • OMG, Chris Jackson freestyle singing (whatever that’s called) at the end of “One Last Time.” Brought the house down. So many showstoppers in this show, it’s a wonder it ever gets to the end! (Get it, cause… showstoppers… stop… the show… no but seriously everyone clapped a lot)
  • I could probably think of more things to say but long post is long and I don’t want to just end up repeating things others have said in their write-ups. You all know about the missing scenes, the mic drop, someone giving Alex Lacamoire a Reynolds Pamphlet, etc. And if you don’t, go spelunking in the Hamilton tag!
  • ONE MORE THING THO: That moment when Leslie stands on a table, jumps, and WHILE HE’S IN THE AIR someone PULLS THE TABLECLOTH OUT FROM UNDER HIM BEFORE HE LANDS BACK ON THE TABLE AGAIN omg how many times did they have to practice that and how many times did Leslie end up on the floor
