ZaSu Pitts doing her Boop-Boop-a-Doop routine. For those that don’t know Olive Oyl’s “second voice” and mannerisms were based on ZaSu Pitts. ZaSu Pitts didn’t mind and she didn’t sue the Fleischer Studios.
I love this darker skinned Betty Boop, i love how they made her play a Royal Samoan, actually to be honest Betty has had tanned/darker skin in several cartoons as both Poodle and Human, The Bum Bandit, Mysterious Mose, I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead You Rascal You! (You can tell when her skin is tanned as she is usually the color “White” in the original black & white cartoons) It’s brings Betty more diverse and to think this was done in the 1930’s, also if you carefully watch Betty’s Hula routine in both Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle & Popeye the Sailorman… you might see a little nip-slip.
We could say that Popeye & Betty were most likely the original Cartoon Crossover… so move aside Simpsons X Family Guy!
