How I spend my afternoon today.

[insert jokes about filling your bucket in the forest here]

The berries in the picture are Vaccinium myrtillus,or European blueberries. The Finnish word for it is mustikka and I was taught to call them just blueberries in English, until a few years ago when I found out that it’s not in fact the same berry Americans call a blueberry :,D

Well, of course no matter what you call it, it’s a tasty berry and really healthy too!

Tl:dr; I have old lady hobbies and my back hurts.

Look how crafty I am, Tumblr!  These are ornaments for my stepmom for Christmas.  They took me forever to put together (mostly cutting and ironing of the fabric), and my thumb hurts from pushing in the ~200 pins, but totally worth it. :3

My evening hobbies include watching Jeopardy and answering all the pop culture questions that the contestants don’t know and calling them nerds, followed by watching Wheel of Fortune and screaming out the answer as loud and fast as I can.

To-knit list

Do any of you crafty beezies keep a running list of what you’re planning to knit/crochet/sew/whatever? I have one on my phone and it’s excellent. I don’t usually have more than one project going at a time (I’m a product knitter, not a process one) so it’s helpful to go “oh right Andy asked me to make him a thing, I can start that now!”

Now that I’ve finished a sweater for each girl this cold-weather season, I’m going to knit a chemo hat for my aunt, then a tie for Andy. He asked me to knit him a tie. I agreed, because he rarely asks and because it’ll make a designer feel nice that their dumb filler knitted tie pattern gets used, probably. Who the fuck wears a knitted tie?

I finally added my stash to Ravelry and rediscovered a bunch of great stuff, none of which is kidproof, so there’s some selfish knitting in my near future, too!

What are you all working on?

EXCITED! SO, SO EXCITED!

My brother comes down to visit my new apartment for the first time tomorrow, AND we are going to a local tea room on Sunday. I have wanted to try this place since I walked passed it a year ago! Oh my goodness I’m so stoked! They do everything from the sandwiches to the pastries and chocolates, all on fine tea services in a gorgeous dining room! Fuck I’m such an old woman!

mariahgem said: Do you freeze them? How do you enjoy them all winter if you freeze them? Are they for smoothies only or something? Also, how do you know if they’re clean and bug free? I always stress about these things.

I freeze them! I actually had to buy a new freezer because the one that was already in our apartment was too small… Berries tend to lose sugar in the freezer tho, so I add some before freezing so they won’t be too sour to eat haha. I usually eat them with yoghurt for breakfast, or use them for baking. I usually make a raspberry cheesecake for christmas, so some of them goes to that :D

I try to pick carefully, and always clean the berries before storing them, so they’re as bug free as possible :,D
