Kihyun had decided to entertain your younger sibling by cooking with them. He’d decide on making dinner, and then baking some cakes that your sibling decorates messily. By the time you come back, there’s enough food on the table to last a week.

{younger sibling}: “Keep Kihyun, {y/n}-ah, he’s better than all of your other stupid boyfriends.”

{y/n}: *laughing* “I know, and I won’t.”

Wonho played a lot of games with your sibling. This could be some video games, or something old fashioned like a game of hide and seek. He’d really love your younger sibling, as much as they love him.

{y/n}: “Come back soon~!”

Wonho: “You can count on it.”

Shownu would let your younger sibling see the gym equipment in his house and the two of them would spend the rest of the day messing around until you got home. When you got home, you found Shownu teaching your younger sibling how to ride a bike by practicing on his working out bike.

Shownu: “{younger sibling} was too scared to go on a real bike, so I said they could practice on the exercise bike first to get a feel for it.”

{y/n}: “I guess I’ll leave you two to it then.”

But by the time you got back, your younger sibling was in bed, listening to Jooehon as he told a story, using his gruff voices and aegyo voices to impersonate perfect characters.

{y/n}: “You’ll be a good father one day, you know.”

  • Me: Undertale is a fantastic game, and an unforgettable experience. It's a wonderfully well-crafted deconstruction of the tendency towards violence, the illusion of choice, and the short-sighted 'us versus them' binary that pervades video games and interactive media. It shows that there are many more compelling and truly mature stories that can be told in the medium, if only developers and consumers saw the potential. I can't wait for games to be influenced by Undertale, which proved that telling much kinder, more thoughtful stories is not only possible but welcomed. I believe the effect Undertale will have on the industry will only serve to elevate the status of video games as a true artistic medium, and that time cannot come soon enough.

Which types of ninjas you love the most and why? Regular Ninja or Cyborg ninja? I like your art!

The old traditional ninja. I find cyborg ninjas overrated and boring with the same concept slashing with neon colors. They had no historical what ninjas do with lots of tricks in the old fashion way. I love some ninja characters in few video games (Nioh is a good example) and animation such as ninja scroll that follows the old style way. Also thank you!

Summary: Best friend!Changhyun turning into something more….

“Sungjun-ah! Why do you have to be so good at this!?” The blanket I had been using enveloped my body as I threw myself onto the couch, fed up with the old fashioned video game displayed on the television. A lighthearted laugh erupted from my tall friend and he too let go of the gamer console and made himself comfortable by my feet.

“You’re even worse than Changhyun hyung, how can you not understand a simple game like Super Mario Bros?” He was laughing at my lack of gamer knowledge while I just grunted and sat up again, ready to go do something else, with someone who wouldn’t make fun of me. He noticed my actions and tried to calm down. “Hey no, don’t you dare leave me alone just because I’m laughing.” A smile was still plastered on his face and he was daring me with his eyes not to admit defeat. “I’ll give you one more chance.” The all too familiar glint was in his eyes and I couldn’t resist the challenge. Five seconds later the both of us were sitting on the floor, hunched over the controllers, our minds focused on the electronic device in front of us.

“Wow Y/N, you really do suck.” I was ready to kill the owner of that voice as his appearance was not expected and caused me to die once again, losing the game. Sungjun put down the console and put his face in his hands, laughing again and not believing my non existing skills at video gaming. I turned around, ready to make the culprit pay, only to see the two maknae leaning against the couch, smirking at me. Or well, Hwanhee was smirking at me while Dongyeol was giving me a sickly innocent smile. Both expressions were aggravating.

“I sucked because you distracted me.” Dongyeol started laughing at my weak defence while Hwanhee put a hand to his heart, acting offended. God, he is such a drama queen.

“Excuse me. Do not blame your awful skills on my angelic being.” I almost laughed out loud at his statement but refrained from doing so, knowing it would only start a war of dissing. Suddenly, the room was being filled with more people.

“Are you making fun of Y/N again? Don’t you have anything better to do?” Trust the leader to be on my side at least. Jinwook got the maknaes to stop teasing me, their smirks however, were still placed upon their lips. “At least you’re not as bad as Changhyun.” That statement was directed at me and he was rewarded with a disappointed look from me.

“I have an idea.” I said, looking from each face of all the ten boys, one after another, since all of them now had entered the room. Lingering a bit on my best friend, Changhyun, but quickly realizing my behavior and shifting my gaze. The last thing I needed was my crush figuring out my true feelings, that’s when things would get awkward. Finally, my eyes found their way back to Jinwook. “Let’s go do something I’m actually good at. Let’s go bowling.” I was met with both cheers and groans. Sungjun was up and about in an instant, already making his way to the hall to get his shoes on. Hwanhee and Dongyeol were also extremely excited to go; Hwanhee instantly started tapping Dongyeol’s back to get him to the hall. The ones who groaned was hard to convince, Sooil used gym as an excuse and disappeared to his room to change without giving me any time to change his mind, Yein said he needed to practice his vocal range and Minsoo and Gyujin sneaked off without anyone noticing. Jinwook gave me an apologetic look.

“Someone has to stay here and look after the kids.” The he shrugged and sat down on the couch, picking up the remote and looked through the channels. I just rolled my eyes at him and turned back to the two people left. Wooseok wore a very competitive expression which told me that he was on board while Changhyun looked at me like I ruined his whole day, which I probably did. He was about to give me an excuse but I stalked up to him and grabbed him by the arm, pulling him towards the hall where everybody else were waiting.

“You, if anyone, are coming with us.” We made quick work of our shoes so that we could catch up to everyone else whom had already left the building. Once out of the building I grabbed his wrist and started running, Changhyun complaining every now and then. Finally, when we could see the others, we slowed down a bit and walked at a normal pace. I had let go of his wrist by now.

“You know I’m not good at bowling.” Changhyun’s deep voice sent a shiver down my spine as he bumped his shoulder against mine.

“I’ll help you.” I bumped mine back against his, smirking a bit.

“But I don’t want any help, that’s embarrassing.” I giggled at him and he glared at me playfully. “You don’t think I’m able to do it myself, do you?” My expression gave more than one answer. “You know what, let’s make a bet, if I get a strike, you’ll have to do me a favour, if I don’t I’ll do you a favour. Deal?” He held out his hand and I took it without any hesitation, i never turn down a bet. His hand was warm, leaving my own tingly once we let go. Then we started jogging so we could walk side by side with the others.

After a bit of strolling the bowling alley finally came into view. We all divided into two groups, Dongyeol, Hwanhee and Changhyun on one team while Wooseok, Sungjun and I formed the other team. Then we all got going. Hwanhee went first, taking down eight pins, leaving one at each end of the lane. Everyone else started making unfortunate remarks as Hwanhee only smiled at his own bad luck, he took down one of the remaining pins.

“Those kind of formations are hard.” He complained as he sat down beside Dongyeol and pulled him onto his lap, letting Wooseok go next. I noticed Changhyun’s leg jump up and down at a rapid pace as Wooseok got a strike, obviously nervous for his own turn to come. Once Wooseok had bathed in the compliments the others were throwing at him he sat down beside Hwanhee and Dongyeol, leaning his head against Dongyeol’s arm. Hwanhee and Wooseok always competed for the maknae’s attention. It didn’t last that long though since Dongyeol stood up to show his own skill, he too got a strike, returning to Hwanhee receiving high fives from the others of his team and even Wooseok, whom he was competing against. Sungjun gave me a look, asking which of us should go next, I gestured for him to go and he did. Let me just say, he was not as good at this as he was at video games. The first ball went into the gutter, while he took down two pins with the other one. He returned to me with a sheepish smile on his face, he didn’t care about his skill as long as he had fun.

Then, it was Changhyun’s turn. He timidly approached the bowling balls, carefully weighing each of them in his hands, deciding which one would work the best. When he finally settled on a blue one, he started walking towards the lane. The ball however, went straight into the gutter, so did the second one. With a shake of his head he returned to his seat, giving me a look that let me know he wasn’t surprised.  I just gave him a reassuring smile. I did my turn after him and got a strike. We continued in that order and after 30 minutes my team was leading with 15 points. Changhyun still hadn’t gotten a strike while that was the only things Wooseok and I had gotten. Changhyun started preparing for his turn once again when Hwanhee walked up to him and gave him some tips. I heard him say that he shouldn’t aim for the pins but aim for the middle dot on the floor instead, that way the chance of him taking down more pins would increase. He listened to his advice and actually took down four pins the first time and the rest the second time. He turned around toward us with his mouth ajar, a shocked look on his face. I was proud of him, maybe now he’ll start enjoying this wonderful activity.

The next time it was his turn he took a deep breath before letting the ball go. A tense few seconds passed as the ball made its way in a perfect straight line before taking down the middle pins, then the rest of them, resulting in him getting a clean perfect strike. Happiness instantly filled my body as I stood up and attacked him with a big hug, he hugged back tightly and we stood there for a while, just laughing from joy. That’s when I remembered our bet and pulled back from him, gazing into his face which was now decorated by a smirk. I instantly started to worry.

The game continued and in the end my team still won by four points, even though Changhyun’s skills definitely increased. We all started to change our shoes and leave the bowling alley when I felt someone grab onto my hand, pulling me to a halt. I turned around to be faced with Changhyun’s smirking face.

“I won the bet.”

“You did, what do you want me to do?” He looked like he contemplated his decision before telling me the verdict.

“I want you to stay still.”

Then he took a step forward, placing one of his hands on my cheek and the other one on the back of my head and pressed his lips against mine.

Walter Day And His Transcendental Galaxies

“TM’s just like that.  You do it regularly, absolutely regularly, two times a day.  And suddenly, whether it’s two years down the line or four or five, you suddenly realize it.  Wow, this bad thing that used to plague me is gone.”

Walter Day enters my home photography studio with a young man’s zest.  He carries with him a strong energy that seems to spread throughout the rest of the room as we sit down to talk about his life in Iowa as a living legend in the gaming community.  Transcendental Meditation brought Day to Fairfield, Iowa in the late 1970’s, and his decision to move there would ultimately be an anchor point to the rest of his life. Day would soon open the now-famous Twin Galaxies arcade just a short drive away in Ottumwa, and from there he would eventually become one of the world’s leading gaming historians.

FORGOTTEN IOWA: Tell us a little about yourself.

WALTER DAY : Well, my name is Walter Day.  I was born in Oakland, California and grew up in Anaheim a mile or two from Disneyland.  When I was fourteen or so, my parents moved the family back to their hometown of Lynn, Massachusetts.  That’s where I went to high school.  It was there that I first heard about Transcendental Meditation, something that would become one of the most important things in my life.  It removed a lot of stress, a lot of physical health ailments, it just made my life more dynamic and energetic.

FORGOTTEN IOWA: So, TM is what brought you to Iowa in the first place?

WALTER DAY:  Oh, yes. Absolutely.  Maharishi Mehesh Yogi, the founder of the TM movement, said that people should come to this place in Iowa called Fairfield. He said that’s where we’d do our group meditations, that it’d affect how other people think, too.  That’s what I’ve been doing for 36, no, for 37 years now.  It’s been an interesting experience to say the least.  But the Maharishi also said that we should do something to support ourselves when we arrived here.  Since I had just fallen completely in love with video games, I decided to open up an arcade in Ottumwa with a friend of mine.  We called it Twin Galaxies.  It was just one of those typical, old-fashioned video game arcade of the early 1980’s.  We’d only been open three months when we had someone go for a world record on a video game. You wouldn’t believe the trouble we found when we tried to verify the score, that it was indeed the new world record.  Turns out, nobody was keeping track of the scores!  We called up all the manufacturers and magazines and said, “we’re keeping track of the scores.”  We just boldly said it like that.  It was just some amazing stroke of destiny that nobody argued it.  They just said, “Wow, that’s great!  We’ll keep you in our Rolodex and refer to you when somebody calls about a new high score.”  It was less than thirty minutes after that call before Twin Galaxies received our first phone call to report a high score in the Nashville, Tennessee area.  It started as fast as that.  After a week, we were getting a dozen calls a day.  Before the year was over, we started getting ninety to a hundred calls a day.  And thirty-five years later, Twin Galaxies still exists, owned by big Hollywood producers.  I’ve since retired from it.

  • Twin Galaxies, 1984.

FORGOTTEN IOWA:  What made you open the arcade in Ottumwa as opposed to opening it in Fairfield?

WALTER DAY: Well, first of all, the video games were so expensive.  An arcade cabinet cost the same as a new car in the early 1980’s, numbers as high at $3,500 each.  And that’s in early ‘80’s currency!  When we opened our arcade in November of 1981, we had twenty-two brand new games in there.  It was essentially the equivalent of having twenty-two brand new cars that we were responsible for the mortgages on.  These companies had to earn, a quarter at a time mind you, the money to pay back for the debt owed on these machines.  Anyway, there were these people called route operators that would decide where the games would eventually go, what town and what venue, stuff like that.  There was already an arcade in Fairfield back then, and there were some odd rules about only having one arcade per town dictated by these distributors, so opening an arcade here just wasn’t possible.  It turns out that the only town in Iowa that didn’t yet have one was Ottumwa.  It was merely an odd quirk of fate that it was a town that happened to be so close to the one I lived in.  We just grabbed a location there as fast as we could, rented it, and the rest is history.

FORGOTTEN IOWA: How would you say Iowa compares to the east coast or the west coast of America?

WALTER DAY: Well, Iowa is so much a part of my heartbeat now because I’ve been here so long that I don’t necessarily notice the qualities of it anymore.  Iowa just is me and I am it, you know?  But recently, lots of people have come to town from other places and they just love Iowa.  They go nuts over Fairfield specifically. Lots and lots of people who have come to my video game events from out of town, out of state, the non-meditators, they’re absolutely intrigued and amazed by Fairfield. They think it’s one of the coolest, most remarkable places they’ve ever been.  They tell me that they can’t put their finger on what it is, just that there’s something so different about Fairfield.  And it feels so good that many have talked about moving here and living here.  Some of them even commit to it and they come here, you know, they live here today.  Not necessarily coming to start doing Transcendental Meditation, just because there’s something about this place that they just love.

FORGOTTEN IOWA: What do you think the biggest changes have been for Iowa and the people that live here?

WALTER DAY: Okay, well, from the context of being a person that practices transcendental meditation, the big group of us that arrived here to do this big program together and meditate – we have always had the understanding that culture will change.  Culture will become uplifted.  Harmony will develop between all kinds of different groups of people.  We’ve become more peaceful.  You know, the economics and money could get better yet.  Things like that, you know, but I think even those things are beginning to happen slowly.  Especially for Fairfield. Especially here.  That’s why all sorts of different organizations like Mother Earth News, or the Smithsonian Magazine, have been declaring this town an economic powerhouse.  A cultural phenomenon.  Just one of those great places you never heard about that, when you do, you want to come and live in.  That’s not a hallucination.  When we first came here, there was a big division between the townspeople and the meditators.  They thought that, “Oh, some sort of Hindu cult is going to take over the town.”  But we began to have more and more of a presence in the town, and they eventually realized that there was no sort of takeover happening at all.  What actually happened is we all became integrated, and a lot of those townspeople started meditating, too.  A lot of them fell in love with the practice of Transcendental Meditation and started doing it themselves.  So all that stress between these two groups has gone away almost entirely over the years.  So, what else has changed?  A lot of independent small businesses have popped up here, I’ve read that this part of the world is starting to be referred to as the silicorn valley.  I think we’re heading toward good things.  It’s a good time to be an Iowan.

Walter and I would continue a conversation that would jump all over the map, from video games to life philosophies, as I set up my studio lights and we began our photo shoot.  Somewhere in that time, I began to feel like I’d just made a good friend.  And I suppose that’s the kind of guy that Walter Day is.  Friendly, inviting, warm, kind; the kind of person that felt as genuinely Iowan as they come.  He left my studio with two or three large winter jackets on and with a spring in his step.  Walter was off to meditate and then to play his guitar for a little while.
