Literally one of the coolest things about “Not How the Story Goes”, aside from of course the wonderful song itself, is that every character more or less directly faces the audience, but Count Olaf is only seen through a reflection in a murky mirror. It really gives an insight into Olaf’s secret depth, that he is certainly a wicked person, but he is not nearly as two dimensional as he seems this early on.
