9:30 club.

Hello Hutchheads!

After 15 years of making music and performing concerts all over the world, I have decided to take an indefinite break from the road. On November 2nd, I play my final show of 2016 at the 9:30 Club in DC. I’ve been considering taking a break for some time, but when I realized the last date of this tour was taking place at the 9:30, everything clicked. The 9:30 Club is the only place I could possibly end my run. There are still some tickets available and I can think of nothing better than to have you all join me at the show!

I grew up in Takoma Park, MD going to countless shows at the 9:30 Club. I checked the Washington Post Weekend section religiously every Friday, waiting to see who was coming. I went to see my favorites like G. Love & Special Sauce, Ben Folds Five, Counting Crows and Cake. I saw everyone from Paul Simon to the Backstreet Boys to Ol Dirty Bastard to James Brown. If you were anyone and your music meant anything, when you came through DC, you were playing the 9:30. I grew up wanting nothing more than to perform there one day.

On May 6, 2009 I finally got my wish and headlined the 9:30 Club, promoting my debut album “Sounds Like This.” I wrote Seth Hurwitz, the club owner, a thank you note: “Dear Seth, now I can die happy.” Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to play the 9:30 a handful of times and it’s been a supreme pleasure and honor. I learned that the club is not only legendary in DC, but is known throughout the cosmos for being a great music room and a place where real music fans go.

Looking ahead, I have several new projects I’m very excited about, some musical, some not, but I’m looking forward to being able to give them more of my time and energy in 2017. I’ll still do a few shows here and there, but for now, this feels like the end of a chapter.

On November 2nd, I hope you’ll come party with me and my band, The Believers, to celebrate my musical journey over the past 15 years. I’m so thankful to all of you who have given your time, energy, enthusiasm and love to me and my music. Barack and Michelle, if you’re reading this, you’re def on the guest list.

Yours Truly,

Eric Hutchinson
