A blurb about this piece: On April 7th, 2015, 12 years after I fell in love with okgo, I FINALLY saw them live in concert and had the great pleasure of meeting the band. The guys were kind enough to sign a piece of aida cloth I brought along with me. I told them I was going to embroider their signatures and they asked me to share what I made from it when it was complete, so here it is!
I wanted this piece to reflect the fun, excitement, and graphic design of OK Go’s music and concerts. The black and white diamond logo was inspired by the Hungry Ghosts cover art and black and white patterns projected on screen during the concert. I used bright thread that fluoresces under blacklight as a nod to the blacklight suits during their recent tour, and finally, I wanted the whole thing to glow in the dark, which just felt very OK Go to me.
Embroidering the signatures was semi-terrifying since I was convinced I was going to screw them up and ruin the whole thing but I am SO happy with the way this turned out. Every time I look at it, I’m taken right back to that moment. I can’t wait until OK Go is back this way again! :)
