ok others sorry

What if...

“Plagg, claws out.”

“Huh? Wait, Adrieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee—!”

-

He’s so tired. So dead tired.

He’s so tired that he can barely function.

Still, as the model Agreste son, he has to make sure to uphold his image, just as his father taught him.

So he straightens his back and adjusts the strap of his backpack against his shoulder, and enters the classroom.

His classmates are all quiet but he doesn’t mind. He’s too sleepy to care.

He stifles a yawn and takes his seat next to Nino, giving him a casual, “hey.”

“Uhh?” Nino responds blankly.

Huh, he must be sleepy too. What a true bro.

He turns around to greet Marinette and Alya.

Alya is gaping and has her hand out like she’s texting on her phone. But her phone seems to have fallen on her desk.

Marinette is staring at him like he’d grown fifty-seven heads and laid an egg.

Seems just like usual then.

“Good morning,” he says to them, hoping the smile he offers them doesn’t look too tired.

Marinette’s eyes widen like he just sprouted an additional fifty-eighth head.

He has no energy to contemplate that so he turns around and lays his head on his desk, hoping to catch a few Z’s before roll-call.

And it’s roll-call that wakes him only a few minutes later.

“Adrien Agreste,” the voice of Miss Bustier calls out.

So he raises his hand and says—

And then he is jolted awake when Marinette starts screaming from behind him.

What if… Adrien was so sleepy that he just walks into class as Chat Noir?

shout out to people who have really morally wrong intrusive thoughts! people who know those things are wrong and can’t stop thinking about them, people who are disgusted by themselves. you aren’t disgusting! those thoughts aren’t you and you can’t control them! it’s ok, you’re a good person.

“That’s not what I meant and you know it.” can you write something for pynch?

i really was gonna make it angsty this time i swear but alas

pynch + “that’s not what i meant and you know it.”

edit: this has an accompanying piece! you don’t have to read it to understand the plot here, but it’s always a fun bit of information. read it here.

Adam still didn’t know what he was looking at.

He had been standing outside with Ronan and Opal for quite some time now, with the former holding up some…thing in their hands, as if expecting Adam to fawn over it any minute.

After a few more minutes, Ronan began to tap his foot in impatience, and Opal had resigned herself to making dirt balls, occasionally throwing them at Adam, Ronan, or said thing.

“So?” Ronan prompted as he scowled at Opal, and at Adam’s lack of reaction. “What do you think?”

“I think,” he started, still somewhat at a loss, “that dragging me into the middle of nowhere to show me more of your weird dream things was uncalled for.”

Adam had expected a rolling of eyes, or some sort of biting remark, but all he got was a smirk.

“You have no idea what it is.”

empathy and being “good”

the post i reblogged right before this one talks, in a form of a dialogue, about one’s desire to be a good, helpful person while their brain tells them that it requires empathy “for at least 2 minutes”, and the person saying something like “oh ew”, implying it’s not that possible. it is implied that the OP has NPD, narcissistic personality disorder. this post was the reason why i decided to finally let my opinion flow on this topic: empathy and being a “good person”.

it seems at first that these two concepts march together: if you have good, normal empathy levels, you are a nice person, and vice versa. and, in fact, it’s not a wrong assumption! there are definitely tons of good empaths. however, such assumption is a logical fallacy. it is simply correlation, but not causation. and here is my explanation why.

let’s start with definitions. what is empathy? because it is a nontangible concept, its definitions are vague and vary from dictionary to an encyclopedia to one person’s set of ideas. daniel goleman says that empathy is awareness of others’ feelings, needs, and concerns. empathy is also the power of entering into another’s personality and imaginatively experiencing his experiences, according to Chambers English Dictionary. so, summing it up, we have empathy that is an ability to understand and/or feel someone’s feelings, or, like people say, an ability to walk in one’s shoes.

a good person is even a vaguer term. it is not in the dictionary, so let me cite wikihow. a good person is a person who is ready to improve themselves, have a positive attitude, and interact with others. but, if you want something even more simplified, a good person is someone who does morally good things. ex. helping others.

simply knowing that people are happy or suffering or scared or worried does not make one a good person. in order to be considered a good person, one has to, for example, help the sad and broken people who need a shoulder to cry on or some cash to survive the night. me observing a small puppy drowning in a pond, because his small paws are too short, and thinking “that puppy is suffering and scared” doesn’t make me a good person. however, me helping the puppy does.

can lack of empathy prevent me from helping the puppy? obviously, by not feeling the puppy’s feelings or experiencing his experiences, it could be hard to understand what’s wrong in his situation. however, i have some common sense left. i see a puppy with extremely short legs that are creating splashes everywhere. this is definitely not the situation the puppy should be in, as the dog obviously cannot swim. i take the puppy and put it on the solid ground. he is alive. and i have done something good by saving a dog’s life.

was it necessary for me to understand that, at first, the puppy was scared and then relieved? first sad then happy? no. absolutely not. but somehow i managed to do a good thing. without any excess empathy.

i have seen posts on social media - twitter mainly - filled with praise for empathy. “empathy is everything,” and similar quotes. and i cannot be angry at these phrases, but i can’t help it, because of tweets like these:

these tweets not only show the OP’s ignorance but promote such ignorance and (ironically!)close-mindedness among their followers and fans. it demonizes people with low or w/o empathy. it demonizes individuals with npd, aspd, bpd, schizoid pd, autism, and schizophrenia. it demonizes those who lack normal levels of empathy due to abuse or trauma. it demonizes people who have done nothing to deserve such demonization.

i did not want to tie politics into this at all, but i have to. remember when trump’s campaign was growing? remember when liberals started saying that trump has npd? remember the reality where trump (wow!) does not have npd? if liberals are really what they claim to be - for equality and against oppression - they must stop spreading stigma against mentally ill people.

i am a very good person. sometimes it is hard for myself to believe that - partly thanks to those who say that low empathy is awful - but it is true. i help people. i volunteer. i make people happy. do i know they are happy? not really. but they tell me they are. there is a great thing called communication that exists. i might not see that the person is hurt; yet, if they tell me they are, i will surely try to comfort them. yes, it works that way. not only through guessing people’s mood.

to conclude, i have no idea who created the idea that empathy is the cause of good things. in reality, one’s moral compass is the true cause of good deeds. morals are the reason we see something as good or bad. so, instead of being a prick to fellow citizens with mental disorders, one can try to find the faults in their argument and finally see the truth.

They don’t get the attic dibs together.

They were so sure that they would.

Neither of them even batted an eyelid when Lardo gave Ford her dibs, agreeing that having a manager in the Haus was a great idea.

They were both ready to share the attic, had been making more of an effort with each other when they realised it might happen.

And once Nursey and Dex did, they realised they had so much more in common than they expected. Maybe sharing the attic would even be fun.

*

But they don’t get the attic dibs together.

Nursey gets them from Ransom and Holster, and he stares at them in disbelief.

“So, the Haus will be me, Ford, Bitty, and Chowder?” he clarifies before accepting.

“Yep.” Ransom says “It gets loud, and hectic, but you’ll love it man”

“Its way more fun than dorms. More like family in a way.” Holster says.

“So,” Ransom says, holding out his left hand for Nursey to shake, “Do you accept these dibs?”

Nureey nods and shakes his hand. As he does, he can’t help wondering how Dex is going to take this news, and where he’s going to stay next year.

*

Dex hears about it an hour later, when he comes back from class. Chowder is excitedly telling Nursey about how great it’ll be being Hausmates. But he shuts up when he sees Dex is there, and he and Nursey look almost guilty.

It takes a moment but he puts two and two together and realises whats happened while he was retaking a class he did last semester.

“So you got dibs?” Dex asks Nursey casually “Nice one man.”

Nursey nods, and Dex goes to see if Bitty had baked any cherry pie.

*

Nursey finishes moving his stuff into the attic, and looks around. The room is huge, and he can’t imagine having all that space after 2 years sharing a dorm.

He’s glad to be out of the dorms, but he wishes it was with Dex. He’d been looking forward to late night conversations in the attic, waking up for practice together, integrating each other’s morning routines into their own. Sharing a desk, and wardrobe, and the bunk beds for 2 years.

Instead, here he was. In a big empty room. Alone.

Just like at home.

*

Dex had left the job of looking for a dorm room later than usual, he’d been so sure he would be sharing the attic with Nursey. And now he was in a room far from the centre of campus, living next to some freshmen who spent all their time arguing. Loudly.

He’d been so sure he was going to he sharing the attic with Nursey. He’d started looking forward to seeing him almost all the time, helping him stay organized, while he helped Dex stay calm. Walking to and from practice and classes together, randomly running to the Murder stop n shop at 11pm for a junk food run, chirping each other’s music taste.

But now he was in a small bed, under a cheap blanket, listening to people arguing over everything.

Just like home.

*

“So, how are you liking the attic?” Dex asked Nursey as they walked to Annies. They were tired after their first practice of the season, and decided coffee would help.

“Good. Its good.” Nursey lied. It was not good at all. It was cold, and quiet, and lonely. “How’s the dorm?”

“Yeah, good” Dex lied. It was too dark, too empty, and too noisy for him to sleep much so far. “Better than expected.” he continued, as they joined the queue for coffee.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” Dex said, not able to look at Nursey as he lied again.

They were silent as they decided on orders, and when they sat down, conversation moved to discussing their summers.

It wasn’t until they were leaving Nursey said what he’d been planning to say all morning:

“You know….you could always sleep over in the attic sometime. If you wanted.”

“I could?” Dex asked in surprise. The idea hadn’t occurred to him

“Well yeah. I mean, there is an extra bed so. You could if you wanted.” Nursey explained.

“Yeah. I think that might be nice.” Dex said, and Nursey smiled at him.

“Cool. But if you are, you have to take the bottom bunk.” Nursey said.

“And let your clumsy ass on the top? You’ll fall off in ten seconds flat!” Dex chirped with a grin.

“My room, my rules!” Nursey laughed, and Dex laughed with him.

Maybe they weren’t living together, but this was a good second best.

*

Dex ends up sleeping at the attic more than he expected. Not that he or Nursey mind that. They have fun together, and don’t argue about room because most of Dex’s stuff is in his dorm. Dex sleeps over once a week if he can, and they talk about anything and everything, before stealing the last of the pie at 2am, and sharing it quietly.

Its fun, and once they start dating, Dex stays over more, so they can have cheap dates, by watching movies in the attic, getting food delivered, or even working on their own projects in companionable silence.
