I have a confession.
I thought OK KO was going to be a fun comedy that didn’t overarch. I thought it would just continue to slide over all the dark tones and be a fun comedy with shenanagins.
I WAS VERY WRONG HOLY CRIPES THIS SHOW DEALS WITH SOME VERY HEAVY TOPICS AND I’M VERY INVESTED.
But on top of that, the fun episodes are easy to get through. They’re genuinely fun and funny and even when the over arch want present I was fully invested in the characters and situations.
The overarching plot is also well done. They’ve really kept it wrapped in mystery and chosen very carefully when to let darker tones seep in. A definate divide between Ko’s world and the real world is very omnipresent in later episodes.
To top that off, the people who work on this show have proven that they WILL follow through on a thread, and it makes future episodes enticing.
And my favorite part is that the Heroes DON’T always win.
That’s right, there are episodes that the villains come out on top, and that to me is so refreshing and so pivotal and important in building tension.
They don’t HAVE to let the goofy villains have a win, but they do.
While I still think the art style is rough, it’s not enough to take the enjoyment away.
The show has built up such a rich and unique world. And I’m excited to be invested!
Also, why is there a captain planet crossover… I’m confused. We’re not even in the right decade anymore…
