oh the look on her face

Yang what was the most awkward thing your sister has walked in on involving you? (Asked by anon)
  • Yang, nervously laughing: Haha probably nothing I mean c'mo-
  • Ruby, without looking up from her scroll: She was trying on some of Raven's old clothes while listening to really dumb edgy music.
  • Yang, her face boiling up with embarrassment: Th-that never happened!!!
  • Ruby, still toying around on her scroll: Yes it did I got dad a framed picture of it for father's day one year.
  • Weiss, slowly closing her book, her jaw dropped: Oh. My. God.
  • Blake, trying not to explode into laughter: Is this picture....still around?
  • Yang: NO!
  • Ruby: Yes.

Rowan: “Oh god! No, no! Please don’t do that..”
Rick: “Nah, don’t worry. I won’t tell him. Well, okay.. That’s not true.. But I won’t tell him that it was you who said that, I promise!”
Rowan: “I’m so sorry.. I’ll go die in a corner out of embarrassment now..”

Rick laughed when he saw Rowan’s now bright red face. He laughed so loudly that Rowan was afraid the teens around her would look at the two of them. She looked around but to her relieve, no one was watching the two of them.

Rick: “Will you be at the Soup Kitchen this Sunday?”
Rowan: “Yep, I sure will.”
Rick: “Great! I’ll try to get an early shift for once. We can hang out afterwards?”
Rowan: “Oh.. um.. Sure. I don’t think I have anything else to do..”
Rick: “Cool! You should give me your number so I can let you know if I managed to change my shift.”

random fluff idea (it's not lafluff but it's fluff so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯): Pidge loves cats, but if you get her started on lizards there's a good chance she'll whip out her phone and show you the pictures of that one time she made little clothes for Matt's lizards to wear

I like, approve of this 1000000000000%

But okay, can we like;

Pidge showing off the pictures to an Empress of the Planet they just saved: Yeah, so here’s my brother’s lizard in a Flash Costume, and like, look at that flat face, oh my god, isn’t he the best —??

Shiro opening his way through the crowd: MR. PEAS THE LIZARD IS ALIVE? HOLY SHIT —!!!

I’m all aboard for this heacanon.

Also, bonus, can we pls imagine Lance and Pidge knitting together??

Lance: what…Pidge, you added another leg hole? How many legs do you think they have????

Pidge: IT’S FOR THE TAIL LANCE., FUDGE OFF.

They bond over knitting and you all can take that away from me from my cold dead clammy dry and slightly small hands, ok.

Also, ally, sweetie, I love you and you are precious.

To my surprise she agreed so I ran in and turned my music on.
I sat on the ground and she just stood there.
“There’s a perfectly good bed right-”
“Can you just?!” I grinned as I pulled her down.

Everything in my life was so wrong. Absolutely wrong, but looking into those clear grey eyes made everything wash away so quickly. I had no time for anything else. I let them take me. I let them take me without a fight.

We lay there and she was staring. I knew she wanted to ask again. Time to get this over with, I thought.
“I…I need you to get rid of Meredith.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Oh, what happened to-”
“Nia please, this is hard enough.”
Her face softened.
“I just want her far. Far away from here. So far she’ll never be able to come back, but don’t hurt her. Please Nia I just want her gone.”
“Why did you decide to change your mind?”
“I-I-”
“Has she been bothering you again?”
“No! I..I don’t know Nia. I just don’t want to be looking over my shoulder, okay?”
I was such a bad liar.
“Fine. Well I do hope you understand what you’re asking of me.”

I hesitated, did I? Did I really?
I didn’t think she was some kind of secret agent or assassin or anything, but her family was beyond loaded. They practically had an infinite amount of simoleons. She could make anyone disappear if she really wanted them gone.
I also knew Julius was a sketchy guy, if they needed to harm anyone or put a stop to someone permanently, well I’m sure he had connections.
I didn’t really like thinking about any of this. I always forgot just how powerful her family was.

“I-I do. I d-do Nia. This is what, what I want.”
My my breath was rapid now.  “Just, don’t, don’t hurt her okay? I only want her gone.”
“I can’t promise that, but it will not be my intention to cause harm.”
I felt panic course through me. Why did she have to act like this was nothing, like I wasn’t about to end someone’s life as they’ve known it?
I was about to force relocate Meredith to who knows where, and away from everyone she knows or loves, if she’s even capable of that.
I covered my eyes.
Was this worth it? Of course it was, anything was worth Kali’s happiness.

I felt her grab my arm.
“O-Okay Nia. Okay.”
I uncovered my eyes and noticed she was still staring right at me with her stupid eyes. I hated when she made that face, I clung to her so badly whenever she made that face.
“Are we finished with this business?”
“Yeah.” I exhaled. I didn’t realize I had been holding my breath.

Our eyes were still linked as she got on top of me.
I chuckled and held onto her shirt
She smiled at me. If she only knew how badly her smiled killed me.

“You have no idea how much I love you,” I said, with what I knew was a stupid smile on my face.
“Well then show me.”
She smirked just enough to show a bit of teeth, and that was it. She knew exactly how to work me. I gripped her shirt tightly and pulled her in.

anonymous asked:

Can you write an imagine where you and Justin Foley go to the dance together and then spend the night at your house?

Before starting, I just wanted to apologize for taking soooo long to update it. I’ve been with exams until just a week ago. Anyways, I think I got a bit carried away with the story and it has a lot more drama that it was intended to have in the first place, but yeah, hope you like it.

“Oh sweetheart. Are you sure you’re not going?”
“No mom.”
“But you looked so gorgeous in that dress… It really is a pity.”
“I know mom, but I really don’t feel like going anymore.”
“Okay… Call me if you need anything, honey, I’ll be downstairs.” She kisses her forehead before getting up and leaving, closing the door behind her. (y/n) sighed, rolling over her side as she buried her face in her fluffy pillow.
It was the day of the dance. A really important day to many, including (y/n). She was going with her boyfriend, and she couldn’t be more excited. That was until a few hours ago. She had to go back to the lockers room since she had forgotten something, and that’s when she saw it. Her boyfriend, making out with some girl in the back of the room. He was cheating on her. Who knows for how long. She kept it together for the rest of the classes, but when she got home she totally lost it. Going to the dance no longer seemed so appealing. Why go anyways? She’d only get laughed at for being such a fool and not noticing what her boyfriend was doing.
She remembered she hadn’t even talked to him about it yet. He’d arrive at her house like nothing happened, and she didn’t feel like seeing him, so she just messaged him.
‘We’re done.’ Those were her only words, and she hoped to get her message across just with that. (y/n) waited for him to read it, and right then blocked him. The last thing she needed was to see his lame excuses.

Half an hour later the front door’s bell rang. (y/n) was about to yell to her mom not to open, but she was too late.
“I don’t wanna see him.” She shouted from her room.
“But honey, it’s Justin.”
‘Justin? What is he doing here?’ She wondered, and as she thought this there was a knock on her door.
“Come in.” She grumbled, and Justin came into view. (y/n) hid her face in the pillow, since she didn’t want him to see her stained cheeks, but he still managed to see it.
(y/n)… I heard what happened with-”
“How do you know about that?” She asked, cutting him harshly.
“He was barging about it right after he received that message from you. Didn’t look like he cared too much though.”
“Already supposed his reaction wouldn’t be too great.”
“He didn’t say much… Why did it happen? You seemed happy with him.”
“I don’t wanna talk about it…” She felt her nose itching again, something that happened whenever she was about to cry. Justin knew that well, so he simply sat beside her, engulfing her in his arms.
“You know what you need right now? Some distraction, and I think the dance would be great for that.” He whispered as he drew circles on her back to soothe her.
“I don’t know, I… I feel like it’s only gonna make things worse.”
“Why though? I’ll be with you the whole time, and if him or any of his friends dare to come just the slightest distance near you I’ll make sure they don’t.”
(y/n) giggled at Justin’s over-protectiveness. He was always like this in this type of situations. And he was also the kind of person who didn’t change their mind easily.
“Do you want me to go that badly?”
“Yes! C'mon, it’ll be fun.”
“Fine. But I have to get dressed and all…”
“No worries, I’ll just wait.”
(y/n) rolled her eyes in annoyance, giving in to Justin’s request, as she got up to get her dress and put it on. It took her a while to get ready, and by the time she came back Justin was lying on her bed with his eyes closed.
“Wake up sleeping beauty.”
“I wasn’t asleep.” I mumbled before he lazily opened his eyes. Right when he saw (y/n) he froze, mesmerised.
“Do I look that bad?” (y/n) asked upon seeing his expression.
“No… You look way too good.”
(y/n) blushed, murmuring a 'thank you’. “Let’s go now. I didn’t make all this effort for nothing. Wait” She stopped midway through the sentence, thinking about something. “How are we going there?”
“By car obviously. I’ll take you.”
“Last time I checked you didn’t have a car.”
“Yeah… That hasn’t changed.” Justin admitted ashamed.
“Fine, you can use mine.”
Justin’s eyes lit up, as she handed him the car’s keys and he run outside excited.

                  *time skip*

The dance had already started by the time they arrived to the high school. A mix of blue light and music escaped through the open doors, and the outside of the building was decorated. There were some students scattered outside, completely opposite to the mass of bodies that crowded the gym.
(y/n) advanced reluctantly, thinking about what could happen if she saw her boyfriend, now ex, or any of his friends. Justin noticed and reached out for her hand, holding it tightly and giving her a reassuring smile.
“How’s it going?” Shouted Zach, wanting to be heard with all the loud noise as he approached them. “Hey (y/n). Thought you weren’t coming. Heard some say that.”
“This boy here kinda dragged me.” She said nudging Justin.
“Good thing he did, you’d be missing one hell of a party. I’ll be going now, just remember the drinks are over there. Might look the same, but the left one has a little extra.” He winked as he said this, and just as he had arrived he left, disappearing in the sea of dancing students.
The first destination were the drinks. Justin grabbed two glasses, filling his with the liquid contained in the left jar.
“What you choosing ma'am?”
“Left.”
“Getting risky today, aren’t we?”
Usually she wouldn’t drink alcohol, it wasn’t her thing. But that day all she wanted was to forget. And isn’t it said that alcohol helps with that? She took a sip, scrunching her nose as she drank. It didn’t taste too good. Truth said, once you got used to it, and she definitely did, it got better.
They sat by the bleachers for a while, both slightly tipsy, but that only made their conversation even more weird and funny. A few more glasses finished and they had lost any kind of sense of time. It could’ve been only minutes or hours. Not that it mattered, (y/n) was having the time of her life.
“Let’s dance!” Justin suggested after a while.
“Noo… I’m really bad.”
“C'mon, why come to a dance if you don’t dance?”
“Can’t argue your logic.”
He stumbled a bit as he got up, making (y/n) giggle, and he then proceeded to do a reverence, holding his hand out for her to take. She did and they walked, not without tripping a few times, to the centre of the dance floor. They shyly swayed to the music at first, but the drinks in their bodies easily put them in the mood, as they followed the rhythm of song after song. Whether it was because of each other’s company or just the atmosphere of the party, they were both able to forget any problem they had.
But of course nothing lasts for long.
(y/n) heard her name being called. At first she wasn’t sure if it was for her, but in no time she recognised who was calling her. Regardless of how drunk they were, she could tell who it was easily. She didn’t want to look. She didn’t want to face him. But she figured that if she took longer he’d only shout louder in order to get her attention, and she didn’t want to make a scene.
“Yeah, look at me you slut!” He spit out once she dared to turn. “Real nice of ya! Leavin’ me through fuckin’ text. The fuck did I even do to ya?!”
She gulped, her voice sounding more scared than she intended it to be. “I saw you, in the locker room… can’t remember with whom, but I saw it.”
“And what?”
“What do you even mean with that? Do you expect me to stay with you after cheating on me?!”
“But ya not dumping me ‘cause of that. Ya doin’ it to be with that dickhead.” He pointed to Justin as he walked closer to him. Last thing needed was a fight, and thankfully (y/n) was able to hold Justin back.
“Fuck off. Haven’t you heard her? (y/n) doesn’t want to be with you. You fucked up good, so just accept it.”
“You ain’t tellin’ me what to do.”
“Justin, let’s leave. There’s no point in arguing with him, he’s too much of an idiot to get it.” She wanted nothing more than to be out of there. They walked out, as her ex continued calling them names, which were soon drowned by the noise.
It was shockingly quiet outside. (y/n)’s heart was pounding fast, as she made her way to her car.
“We’ve both been drinking, should we not be driving?” Spoke the logical side of Justin.
“I can drive. Trust me, I’m pretty sober by now.” Without a doubt she was. After the striking events from the night, any alcohol in her had magically disappeared.

The drive down to her place was awkwardly quiet. Neither of them had too much of an idea of what to say. Regardless of that, (y/n) was able to decipher by Justin’s look that he didn’t feel like going to his own house. A sly smile appeared on his features the moment he saw how (y/n) pulled up at the driveway of her home. At first, they walked in carefully, trying not to make any sound in case her parents were already asleep, but that soon ended by the time they reached the kitchen and they saw a note which said that they had gone out.
“You want anything?” (y/n) finally said as she opened the fridge, looking for something to drink.
“Nah, I’m good.” Another awkward silence followed. So much was going through (y/n)’s mind that she was completely unable to form any coherent sentence.
“I’m sorry for what happened.” Were Justin’s words after some long minutes.
“It’s okay, it wasn’t your fault. I should’ve imagined that would happen if a went to the dance. Let’s not talk more about it though, I don’t want to think about him.”
Justin nodded. “How about we watch a movie? To get your mind off all of it.“
"Yeah… I’ll go change then, you can choose whichever you like.”
Mixed emotions raced through her as she laid on her bed, trying her hardest to settle them down. Relief began to stand out over her other feelings. She had faced him, and at least now she could begin to forget him. She remembered Justin was waiting for her downstairs and she got back up with recovered energies, grabbing a blanket as she headed back to the lounge.

All the lights had been turned off, and the tv was now the only source of light, illuminating the room. A bowl with crisps had been placed in the table, together with some drinks, and Justin was already sat in the couch, waiting for her. (y/n) smiled upon seeing this, as she curled up next to Justin and covered both of them with the blanket. The movie started, and she snuggled closer to Justin, enjoying the warmth and how safe she felt with his arms around her.
“It hasn’t been such a bad night after all.” She said halfway through the movie. “I mean, I’m having the best time now.”
“Yeah, me too.” Justin looked down to gaze at her. He couldn’t help but smile, seeing her with so much joy and tranquillity. Unlike (y/n), Justin was still drunk. He might have been staring at her for a solid ten minutes, until a sudden outburst of courage let him place a hand on her cheek, making her turn to face him, and lean in to kiss her. It took (y/n) by surprise, and there was no reaction from her. This probably made Justin aware of his actions, as he pulled back flustered. Regret washed over him as he realized what he had done. His drunk state had let him do something he had long time dreamed of doing, but had never had the courage to.
“I-i’m so s-sorry I…” He stuttered, not knowing how to solve the situation. (y/n) didn’t know what to answer either, so she went with the classical plan of leaning in again, taking the initiative this time and kissing him. This time there was a reaction from Justin, as he kissed back with as much love and passion as he could, hoping (y/n) would feel it. And she did, as she was smiling and giggling the moment they pulled apart. She pecked his lips again before returning to their previous position, her head leaned against his chest and his arms secured tightly around her small frame. Not that they payed attention to the movie now, since they were both too busy thinking about each other, with a childish grin plastered on their features.

agent-jaselin  asked:

oh! something I just thought might make an interesting drabble for the Merguckets. Harper finding and taking in his kids?

Okay so, normally, Harper’s son’s name is Lester, but that’s not a mer name.  So I went with “Loach”, which is a kind of fish that begins with the same letter as Lester.  Oh, and Harper adopts Ruby about a month after Stan and Angie’s first clutch was laid.

Harper picked up a shell that had washed up on the beach.

Get enough of these, maybe I could make some sort of mobile.  Toy fer the incomin’ guppies.  Still haven’t gotten Angie ‘n Stan a clutch gift yet.  He was distracted from his thoughts by the sound of crying.  What’s that about?  He looked to his left, to see a very young child sitting on the sand, positively bawling. Her face was hidden by a curtain of long black hair.  Harper bit his lip.  That’s a human guppy.  She’s prob’ly just lost or somethin’.  Her folks ‘ll come back soon enough.

Harper stepped back a bit to observe the child from a distance.  By the time he could feel his skin beginning to itch uncomfortably, a sign that he had to change to a merman again soon, the child’s parents had still not arrived.  He swallowed nervously and approached the young girl.

“Hello there, sweetie,” Harper said timidly, crouching down.  The girl sniffled.

“H-hi,” she said, her voice thick from crying.  Harper smiled.

“What’s a cute lil one like you doin’ on a beach alone cryin’?  Where’s yer folks?”

               “M-my folks?”

“Yer ma ‘n pa.  Where are they?”  At Harper’s question, the child broke into renewed sobs.  “Oh no.”

“They-they left me,” the child wailed.  Harper stared at her.

               “What?”

“They left me, they didn’t want me anymore!  Mommy said they never wanted me in the first place.”  Harper’s heart broke.  He reached out his arms tentatively.

“Is it okay if I hug ya?” he asked.  The child nodded, so Harper wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace. “Don’t worry, guppy, everything’ll be all right.  Do ya- do ya-”  Harper paused.

Should I really offer this to her? She’s some random human toddler I just met.  He banished the traitorous thought from his mind.

“Do ya want to come with me, hon?” he finished.  The girl stared at him.

               “W-what?”

“I can promise ya a roof over yer head, ‘n food, ‘n anything you might need. Do ya want to come with me?” Harper asked.  The girl sniffled one more time before nodding.  “Are ya sure?”  The girl nodded again.  “Okay, I’ll take ya home.  But there’s somethin’ else ya need to know ‘bout me.”

               “What?”

“I’m a merman.”  The girl stared at him with wide eyes that Harper realized were hazel.

Don’t see that color often in my fam’ly.

               “Really?”

“Yes.  So if ya come home with me, you’ll have to give up land, become a mermaid.  Do ya think you can do that?”  After a moment’s pause, she nodded.

               “Yes, sir.”

“Don’t call me that, darlin’.  My name’s Harper.”  The girl nodded again.  “What’s yer name, lil one?”

               “Ruby.”

“Ruby.  A pretty name fer a pretty lil girl.”  Harper stood up.  He held out a hand.  “You comin’ with, Ruby?”

She took a hold of his hand.

—–

“You doin’ all right there, Ruby?” Harper asked.  The guppy was clinging to his back as they swam through a reef.  Although he had adopted her about two years ago now, she still hadn’t had many experiences with the open sea.

“Yes, Papa,” Ruby said quietly.  Harper smiled to himself.  She’d only started calling him that recently, and it made him feel warm inside each time she said it.

“Nice to get out of the house, away from yer cousins, ain’t it?” Harper said cheerfully.  He could feel Ruby nod.  “Those lil girls are rowdy ones.”

“Yeah.  I like ‘em, but Molly ‘n Danny ‘n Daisy ‘re loud,” Ruby agreed.  Harper chuckled.  His ears picked up on a strange noise.  He stopped.  “What is it?”

“Heard somethin’.  You stay here, out of sight,” Harper said.  He took her off his back and nestled her amongst a clump of seaweed. Her green guppy scales allowed her to blend in almost perfectly.  After giving Ruby a kiss on the top of her head, he swam off to investigate.  The noise led him to a clump of seaweed not unlike the one he had hidden Ruby in.  Harper swam closer and carefully parted the strands of seaweed, revealing a young merboy.

Why do I always find stray children?

“Howdy, guppy,” Harper said cautiously.  The merboy looked up at him, terrified.  “Where’s yer school?”  The merboy’s lip trembled.

               “G-g-gone,” he whispered.

               “What do ya mean?”

“Merfolk hunters.  Mama told me stay here, ‘cause I could see what was happening.  The hunters, they-they took Mama, and Daddy, and- and the rest of my clutch,” the merboy whimpered.  Harper stroked the boy’s blonde hair.

               “Poor lil thing.”

“I don’t have anywhere to go,” the merboy sobbed.  Harper paused.

Can I handle two guppies at once? Ruby’s ‘bout six.  This guppy looks like he’s three, maybe four?  The merboy let out another piteous wail.  I’ve got to be able to handle two guppies at once.

               “What’s yer name?” Harper asked.

               “L-loach.”

“A strong mer name,” Harper said.  “Loach, how’d ya like to come live with me?”  Loach sniffled.

               “Really?”

“Why, sure!  I got a daughter, I could use a son,” Harper said with a smile.  After a moment, Loach nodded.

               “Okay.”

14 please?

“It’s four A.M.”

Seung-gil liked his sleep. If there was one thing he got bitchy about, it was sleep. He liked to get at least ten hours, and if he was woken up before that, it was not likely that anyone would keep their heads.

JJ knew this full well. So Seung found it especially irritating when he was being shook from side to side, his boyfriend breathing much too close to his face. Before looking at the other, he looked at his clock. “It’s four A.M. You better have a damn good reason for waking me up-”

“Nari’s crying…”

“Oh hell no, she is your daughter before 5 A.M….get away from me.”

And with that- he went right back to sleep, leaving Jean-Jacques to deal with a hungry child and one of her more gnarly diapers.

“Damaged” - An Endgame AU

“Chakotay,” she implores. “Please, don’t do this.”

He drops his gaze to the patterned rug on the floor of his seldom-used bedroom. It’s easier than looking at her now. He can never look at her beautiful face when they get to this part of her visit, because the words she has to speak hurts them both.

Because there are rules, and she’s always been one to follow them. Even if it keeps them apart.

Sabrina sat in the bathroom for what felt like hours just staring at the pregnancy test, which was lying face down on the sink corner. The timer that signalled that the test would be ready broke her out of her haze of thoughts though.

She grabbed her phone and fumbled to turn the alarm off, but then found herself just staring at the test again. Shakily, she let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding and extended a trembling hand to pick it up.

Sabrina: “Ugh, pull yourself together Sabrina, just look at it…”

Pregnancy test: “+”

Sabrina: “Oh my god.”

Sabrina could hardly believe her eyes at first; surely they had to be deceiving her. It couldn’t all be happening this quickly, could it? She couldn’t take her eyes off the little plus sign no matter how hard she tried, but soon all sight of it was obscured by tears of relief and pure joy welled up in her eyes. Her family was going to be complete. She was going to be a mom again.

things I love about Steve Trevor
  • He makes sure he actually thanks Diana for pulling him out of the water
  • The only time he ever expresses doubt to Diana about any of her beliefs is when he’s trying to convince her not to jeopardize the mission by killing Ludendorff, and even then it’s a hypothetical (“what if”)
    • He also does after she kills Ludendorff but that’s after her belief is shattered so I don’t really count it
  • He is so duty-bound I love him so much no wonder he and Diana got along so well
  • He just. Wants the people around him to be happy? The scene after they rescue Veld always kills me, and two parts in particular:
    • When Charlie starts playing piano and singing and Steve says “I haven’t heard him sing in years…” and his face is all soft and you can see the shadow of a smile tugging at his lips but you can also see all the sadness in his eyes from those years of him not singing
    • And when he’s dancing with Diana and it starts to snow and she looks up and is so confused and delighted and he’s like “it’s snow… go on, touch it” and she does (also she has to let go of his hand to do it and he still encourages her to? such a small thing but oh man my heart) and he looks at her with such heart eyes
    • Honestly Chris Pine played him so well, so much complex emotion depicted even when he’s not speaking, like jfc well done
  • I love the boat scene, partly because it’s just fucking hilarious but mostly because their conversation is so respectful. She tells him she was sculpted from clay and brought to life by the breath of Zeus and his reaction is just to raise his eyebrows and say “Well, that’s neat.”
    • I know that could read as sarcastic but it doesn’t to me at all. It’s funny, sure, but he isn’t making fun of her. It’s genuine and kind, even when what she’s saying is fairly unbelievable.
    • Just the entire way they speak in this scene… He never adopts that Mansplaining Tone™ that is so common, even when he’s actually explaining things. He talks because he wants to share information. It’s a cultural exchange, and I loved it.
  • After Veld, when they’re sitting and watching the villagers dance, he just quietly says, “You did this.” and she’s the one who smiles at him and says, “We did this.” He has so much respect for her and it kills me inside because it’s not “We did this” originally (which could be him pointing out that they’re a good team, him saying they have things in common, or a thousand other things), it’s just “You did this,” because he just wants her happy. He wants her to recognize how goddamn impressive she is. There is no agenda to what he said and it fucks me up
  • The entire scene with the kiss. Like, I’m gay as hell, usually I hate this kind of thing because it feels so unnecessary, but this was so well done I’m genuinely glad it was included
    • When he escorts her up to a room he then starts to leave. Even with all of that tension he doesn’t want to assume that she wants anything to happen.
    • So he has his hand on the door and he starts to back out of the room and he hesitates just long enough for her to turn around and meet his gaze. And even then he’s reading that as a sign that she wants him in the room so he steps forward and closes the door behind her and then looks up again to confirm that’s what she wanted. And even after that, he crosses over to her so slowly and lets her be the one to actually initiate the kiss.
    • He gives her a thousand and one chances to change her mind, to give him a small indication that she’s uncomfortable or doesn’t want it to happen, and it’s only once she lets all of those chances pass that they kiss.
    • Consent-based relationships, man. Fuck me up.
  • Speaking of consent… the scene after Diana returns to Veld and sees the gas has killed everyone fucks me up
    • Steve’s followed her there and is clearly freaked the fuck out because she’s just gone and he physically can’t go in to try to find her because of the gas
    • So when she comes out he’s so visibly relieved and he goes forward and puts his hands around her face, clearly wanting to kiss her, and she shoves him away and says “stay away from me.” and he does.
    • He lets her be furious and devastated and overwhelmed because he knows what it’s like to feel powerless and I think he is genuinely sorry he contributed to her feeling this much pain. He lets her say she’s angry, he lets her blame him, he lets her grieve and doesn’t stop her when she leaves him there.
    • Not only does he not stop her, he sees the smoke from Chief’s fire and yells to her to follow it because he had followed Ludendorff. Their argument from the ballroom still isn’t resolved - she wants to just kill him and be done with it, Steve wants that to wait so they can focus on stopping the gas - but he recognizes that this is her choice and even after she’s basically just blamed an entire village’s deaths on him (and on herself) he tries to help her carry it out.
  • So after Diana’s killed Ludendorff and the war is still going on and Steve runs up to find her, he’s so visibly relieved that she’s alive and (like after Veld) goes to kiss her but backs away without her doing anything because he realizes the “stay away from me” thing has never been explicitly lifted. She might still want nothing to do with him and he respects that.
    • He does touch her a couple times after this but it’s always brief, I think it continues only because she didn’t react negatively the first time, and like they’re in the middle of a fucking war and I think Steve’s about 900% convinced that they’re all going to die so I’m gonna cut him a little slack here.
  • They have that “argument” again, where Diana says “this should have stopped, I killed him, why is this still going on” and instead of saying I told you so Steve just tries to get her to move on and help him save other people.
    • When he says “maybe it’s us! maybe we’re to blame!” (meaning not Ares) and she says that (obviously) she isn’t to blame, he doesn’t hesitate, he just says “but maybe I am.” He’s willing to put that on himself. Also, the qualifier through this scene - but maybe it’s us - is so important to me, because he’s still not saying “you’re wrong.” it’s a maybe.
    • When she refuses to go with him he’s clearly frustrated (again I’m giving him a pass here because he’s frustrated because he knows he won’t be able to save as many people without her) but he still doesn’t try to force her to go with him. He doesn’t guilt-trip her, doesn’t yell at her for not helping. He just gives that desperate shrug and says “I have to go. I’m sorry, I have to go.”
    • And when Charlie and Sam and Chief show up and ask where Diana is, all he says is “we’re on our own.” Not “she wouldn’t fucking help us” - which frankly is probably what I would have said in this situation - just that statement and nothing more.
  • In their final scene, when she’s hurt and dazed and temporarily hard of hearing, he breaks his “no touching” rule, but he breaks it because he’s helping her stand up and then because, well… even if she doesn’t, he knows he’s never going to see her again.
    • It’s also super important to me that he doesn’t try to kiss her in this scene, because god knows he must have wanted to. He sees that she is in no shape to consent to anything like that and he doesn’t even come close to pushing it.
    • I’m not even gonna get into the “I can save today” part because I’m still too emotionally fraught
    • He says is “I wish we had more time.” before he tells her he loves her and literally runs to his death. That’s it. Nothing that could possibly make her feel guilty, nothing that could have seemed like he regretted anything. Not “I wish we hadn’t gone to the front.” Just “I wish we had more time.”
    • And he then, metaphorically and literally, gives her more time. Because he knows his clock has run out, but that doesn’t mean hers has to… So he runs and saves today and gives her his watch. Gives her time.
  • Anyway I’m seventeen thousand levels of fucked up from this movie, please feel free to add because Steve is amazing and a genuinely good, complex, respectful male character like this should be celebrated

“The floor is lava…”, he whispered. Nobody heard him. And if they did they always chose to ignore him. “Hey! The floor…it’s…it’s lava”, he said a little louder. Amber gave him a quick glance then pretended he wasn’t there. It was like that one time he finally managed to confess to her in 9th grade. She had stared at him with a puzzled look on her face and then walked away without saying a single word. The next day he was as good as dead to her and her friends. He could still be in the same room as them but his presence got unacknowledged. “I am telling you! The floor is lava!” “Oh, fuck off, Jake”, said Amber. It was the first time Amber, let alone anyone, spoke to him since the death of his parents. A tear rolled over his cheek and was followed by a smile. “But but…”. “Listen to me Jake. The floor is lava, the sky is lava, the floor is my pussy…” (He could see Max picturing the latter in his mind’s eye), all of it.. just stop it, okay? This has been going on for days and nobody gives a damn. You are only making a fool of yourself Jake!“, she exclaimed. "Bet he wished the floor was your pussy”, howled Max. “Fucking loser." A smile appeared on Jake’s face. "See! Told you! He really wants the floor to be…” “Oh, shut up, Max!” Sweat started to drip from Jake’s forehead. He grinned. “The. Floor. Is. Lava.” 5…..4…..3….2….he jumped on his desk….1….and then watched Amber, Max and their friends being swallowed by the lava. Their screams music to his ears and the smell of their burning corpses something he would cherish forever. The same way he cherished that of his parents. “The floor is lava, bitch.”
