Running on Air

Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.

(I’ve rec’d this one before but I will keep pushing it on everyone because its the bEST ITS MY FAVORITE ONE OK I live for the mood and the entire fic is like a walking aesthetic and the characters are portrayed pERFE C T LY goddang)

No Shadow Taller Than Our Souls

Auror Potter and Unspeakable Malfoy team up to investigate a series of missing persons, and it soon becomes apparent that Dementors are involved. Despite their initial misgivings, Harry and Draco find that they need each other’s help, in more ways than one.

(I literally just finished reading this one like 10 minutes ago and it was a good good. A lot of interesting Dementor lore!!)

Draco snorted. “I’m not reduced to penury. I want something considerably beyond money, and I rather think you’re the only one can give it to me.”

“You want the Invisibility Cloak,” Harry said, flatly. He’d half expected as much; it was the only thing he had that Draco could want—

“Don’t be stupid, Potter,” Draco said. “I want my reputation back.”

(I remember really liking this one and I thiiiiink this one has some good good ministry ball courtship-ing and stuff lmao

Actually looking now anything by astolat is good)

The Boy Who Only Lived Twice

Harry Potter is an Unspeakable. Draco Malfoy is the wizard who shagged him. Adventure! Intrigue! Secret identities, celebrities, spies! It’s all right here, folks.

(THE SUMMARY DOESNT LIE. I TREALLY IS SECRET IDENTITIES, CELEBS, aND SPIESsseSSEs. But really this one is so well written and I’m a sucker for spy/thriller types and this blends the wizarding world into the genre so well im cryinnngngg)

Coffee, Cakes and Doorknob Snakes

Harry’s house is trying to kill him, and only one person can help him: pity it’s Draco Malfoy

(this one is just *clenches fist* so pure. The house has so much character I cant even believe. And Draco being the smartie mcsmartpants is my favorite thing ever.)

Open For Repairs

After the war, Draco works at a tv repair shop and Harry breaks things.

feat. sad boys in jumpers and more ABBA than is probably necessary

(this one melted my heart and rebuilt it. Better. STrONGER. Seriously tho this has everything in it.)

And basically anything Saras_girl on a03 writes is like a gold standard.~ I might make a more indepth list when I actually compile all the ones I’ve read (theres a lot oh god) but these are goods!

Day Seven: Free Choice

Well here we are, at the end, and I’ve gotta say I feel a strange mixture of satisfaction in knowing that I’m not delusional, because this is here and it’s awful, but also frustration and sadness knowing that despite all the problems discussed this week, this shit is still canon.

So, free choice. I’ve decided I really really want to talk about Kara. Supergirl, Kara Danvers, Kara Zor-El. Our hero, our main character, the woman we’ve seen grow from “just” an assistant (something we later learned meant so much more to her and offered her so much more than one would expect) to, after not questioning anything else but saving the life of her sister, a hero and a stronger woman in her own right. As she grew and learned as Supergirl, she discovered more about who she wanted to be as Kara Danvers, and discovered more about who Kara Zor-El is, what legacy she’s living up to, and what she wants to do with what her Krypton origin has given her. We’ve seen her struggle with her career, her adoptive family, her biological family, her love life, and trying to find some balance with all these aspects of her life. We’ve seen her be upbeat and optimistic no matter what the situation, only to then realise how much she struggles on the inside, with sadness, loneliness, anger, and a desire to fit in yet still be someone important, but not just because of Supergirl.

In season 1, the ever-aware Cat Grant figured out Kara was Supergirl, and Kara nearly lost her job at CatCo because of it. After having her identity and job saved by J’onn, she says “I can’t leave this place. It’s not just a secret identity to me.”

Her job gives her another purpose as Kara, the one where she gets to grow as someone beyond Supergirl, with her own human strengths and weaknesses. This is later emphasised when Kara is fighting the Black Mercy, and as Alex is trying to save her sister’s life, she’s also trying to make sure she has her life beyond Supergirl to come back to. “CatCo is more than a job to Kara. It’s where she gets to live a normal life.”

Then in season 2, we had the long-hyped up arrival of Superman ha, remember when we were worried he was going to take over Supergirl’s show, good times… and we got some great scenes between the two of them, but of important note was getting the Supergirl and Superman scenes as well as the Kara and Kal-El/Clark scenes. They worked together and learned from each other as superheroes, and learned from each other as their other human selves. And Kara, with some encouragement from other significant women in her life, seems to now be following in his reporter footsteps. Of a more important note that episode though, I think, was “all I know is that being Kara is just as important as being Supergirl.” Kara already knew it, of course, but having the reminder that she could focus on who she was, but not as Supergirl, was so crucial, and dedicating her time to figuring out her career and her love life and everything else still needed to be a priority.

And then later in that season premiere episode, the one that gave us some misplaced hope in this show on a new network, we got Cat’s announcement she was leaving, and her reminder to Kara: “You are smart and talented and astonishing.” Yet another significant figure in Kara’s life reminding her that Kara was important, Kara needed to be valued, and she was so much more than just Supergirl, and that she was allowed to, and needed to, give just as much to her human persona as she did to her superhero one.

Melissa herself was so excited to explore Kara in season 2, and I think a lot of the viewers were too. Season 1 was about her becoming Supergirl, and figuring out all the challenges that came along with that. Season 2 was going to be about Kara growing as Kara. She’d figured out a lot about Supergirl and everything that life entailed. The DEO, the missions, and sacrifices, and how to use the powers she had to try and make the world a better place as a superhero. But beyond that, the other side of her life, was Kara, and getting to grow as that person as she juggled changing a career and losing her work mentor. Seeing Kara grow in that role and adjust to her new CatCo position and what it meant for her was something that could have been so significant this season. And yet…

We got Mon-El. And we got karamel. And then everything that could have been about Kara growing slowly got destroyed bit by bit.

In 2x15, Kara, after posting her article on her blog, was fired from CatCo. And in turning to someone for support, she talked about how being a reporter was her calling, it was how she helped people. And she was told that Supergirl also helped people. And of course she does, we’ve known that since the start! But then Kara emphasised that she doesn’t need a yellow sun to save people as Kara, it’s just her. “Supergirl is what I can do, Kara is who I am.” Supergirl is so important, but more important is the woman who has to be completely herself and fight to learn and fight to find the truth and report it. That was her calling, she observed it and realised that that was something she could do and had a passion to do.

I will never forget the feeling of defeat and loss, when instead of understanding what Kara was saying, and reminding her that Kara was important and Kara is important and that she needed to fight for Kara too, he agreed and smiled when Kara uttered the most un-Kara words she’s ever said in the entire series: “Maybe being Supergirl and having you is enough.” Because it’s not and it never will be and Supergirl is just as important as the independent Kara in the career that helps her fight for the things she is most passionate about. And no, this isn’t about Kara staying single in order to do that, but rather it’s about her having the people in her life who allow her to grow in all aspects, and encourage her to be her best and support her when she needs it, not to only support them with the things that align with what they want and abuse her when she does the opposite.

This is Supergirl. This is the mixture of Kara Zor-El and Kara Danvers and Supergirl. She’s a hero in more ways than one and despite having powers, she’s incredible even in the areas of her life where those things don’t come into play. She was an amazing assistant and is going to be an incredible reporter. She’s a loyal friend and loving sister and she’s so many things even before what the sun gives her the ability to do. And that right there is why she is important as a character, long before her superhero status comes into it. So when a character comes along who does something to restrict her to the thing that from the outside seems to be the most important and most impressive, that isn’t a good thing! And that’s exactly what Mon-El has done. And yet somehow, in some awful twist of the knife the network/writers stabbed into the backs of the season 1 viewers, he’s managed to reduce her to just the physical strength of Supergirl whilst also condemning her actions as Supergirl when it doesn’t suit him.

Season 2 had all the potential to grow Kara as well as Supergirl. To grow the human-appearing side, the one who fights with things beyond her physical abilities. And in introducing Mon-El, the show has focused less on Kara and managed to reduce what we have gotten on her. In the beginning of season 2, however, we had all the potential for Kara to be Mon-El’s mentor, in the way she was supposed to be for her cousin (and in some way, possibly, a way for her to move on from losing Cat as a mentor?). But in that ending and karamel starting, every way that Kara could have grown due to the introduction of a new character, she’s slowly been whittled away to everything she never wanted in becoming Supergirl.

TL;DR (oh my god this got long, I really miss everything this show was and could still be!): Kara is the main character, Kara is the woman we watched grow as Supergirl and almost got to see grow as Kara Danvers the reporter. Instead, we got Mon-El and karamel, and now the woman who wanted to fight to report the truth, no matter how hard it was to find, is okay with settling for everything she never wanted for herself, and it breaks my heart to know that a show with such potential has become this. I miss you Kara, please come back.

Oh, Crooked Kingdom. What can I even say. Our beloved murder nerds return in this second and final installment of The Dregs, this time wreaking havoc in their own city. The stakes were higher, the conversations were sassier, and the plot twists were twistier. I somehow grew to love my favourite band of criminals even more; especially Wylan, my tiny explosives-maker. Moreover, the romantic relationships were excellent–flawed, heart warming, heart breaking, and perfectly in character.

And before I forget, can I also say how much I love the representation in this series? Pretty much every single character is a well-rounded, strong, well-written person who is also part of a minority group (of various sorts) and it’s beautiful. We have representation of pretty much all walks of life here, and god knows we need more of that in our media.

With all that in mind, I do feel like some parts of the story could have been done better. One event in particular felt a bit rushed and almost like an afterthought for being so pointless, story-wise. Plus the ending felt a tad too perfectly wrapped up.

I did love this novel, though, and my misgivings really only knock out about half a star (which unfortunately does not exist in emoji form, hence the five stars pictured above and on GR). So my overall verdict is READ THIS BOOK.

Emoji Review: 😂😨😭💖👏🏼

Star Wars Rebels Season 4 trailer

Okay so I woke up today not expecting anything but OH MY GOODNESS. I can’t believe that S4 is the end but that whole trailer was brilliant.

What I liked a lot was at the beginning Hera talking like she is telling a story. It really adds depth to the trailer and makes the whole thing tie together so perfectly.

And then we get into the new stuff. The wolf was amazing. PLUS KANERA WAS BASICALLY CONFIRMED. Then there was Bo-Katan and I can’t look at her without thinking of Satine. It breaks my heart. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with these characters!

But what really got me was the ending. I don’t know if this means for sure that everyone but Hera and Chopper survive but I am hoping at least a few of the others survive. As much as I don’t want Kanan and Ezra to die, Luke has to be the last jedi.

Plus, AHSOKA. MY DAUGHTER WAS CONFIRMED ALIVE. No matter what they do, I am just happy to have her back!!

anonymous asked:

Hello :) I was wondering what your favourite Drarry fics are?

alEeee. :)

Bounding-Heart’s Drarry Rec List:

The Killing Moon by Inkandfakefurs: “Harry Potter’s saving-people-thing is set to become the bane of Draco Malfoy’s life - alongside Dark Lords, werewolves, ex-teachers, Horcruxes and not-dead-enough ancestors. Set post-HBP. Deathly Hallows - what’s that?”

This is my all time favourite ever Drarry fic. And it’s a horrific tragedy, because it’s unfinished and will never be finished. That doesn’t stop me from reading it over and over again. I still find it worth it. I love it because the characterisations of every single character, Harry and Draco in particular, are spot on and beautiful. Any Drarry writer who gets Harry right owns my heart and inkandfakefurs does so so beautifully. The writing is wonderful, professional quality. You’ll forget you’re reading a fanfic. It’s also got an intricate, gripping plot and some wonderfully complex magic that builds on what we’ve seen in canon. Oh, and Draco is a werewolf. Draco’s struggle to come to terms with the resultant helplessness and self-disgust breaks my heart in the best way, but there’s zero woobification.

Who Will Guard the Door by musamihi: “The day his father is sentenced, Draco takes the Mark and is given his impossible task. Thorfinn Rowle, assigned to be his mentor, is less interested in assisting him than in satisfying his own appetites. As Draco sinks further into failure and watches the war sweep his parents away from him, he takes refuge in the Manor – a member of the family he never knew he had. But the Manor suffers its own wounds during Lord Voldemort’s residency, and the Chosen One may be the only force that can heal them.

It’s the best and most accurate exploration of Draco as a character I’ve read. Also strong, beautiful writing with depths that go well beyond what you expect from fanfiction. It follows Draco’s experiences through Half-Blood Prince and a bit beyond and fits perfectly into canon. It’s got some very harrowing bits, so read the warnings.

The Waters Know their Own also by musamihi:Harry and Draco decide to spend Christmas with the Notts, although neither of them seems to know precisely why. Harry finds most of the company lacking, and some of it downright dangerous.

Honestly, I recommend anything she’s written. (She wrote a John Dawlish/Rufus Scrimgeour fic that was wonderful.) I am not generally interested in established relationship fics, but this is an exception. It’s a melancholy and beautiful take on Harry and Draco.

The Light More Beautiful by @firethesound :  ”Thirteen years after Draco accepts Potter’s help escaping the horror of his sixth year, he returns to England where he makes the unfortunate discovery that Potter is still as obnoxious as ever. And worse, more than a decade overseas hasn’t been enough to dim Draco’s obsession with him.

The story takes place in an alternate reality in which Draco flees to America during his sixth year. He and Harry have a particular past, however, and that complicates things. It’s hilarious at times, incredibly hot, and has an intricate plot that comes together so perfectly in the end that I wanted to throw confetti. Good writing, tons of feels, and enjoyable characterisations.

At Your Service by Faithwood: “Hogwarts students are in danger; Harry is determined to save them all. There’s only one thing he knows for certain: Draco Malfoy is somehow involved.”

From my original rec: It’s like getting the chance to read Book 8, where Book 8 is Harry/Draco. The writer makes every single character come to life, complete with strengths and flaws. She uses the canon setting beautifully. She tells a story complete with a gripping mystery and heart-swelling, slow-building romance. And everything is woven together. Everything is seamless. The female characters are treated with respect and the writer’s love of canon shines through powerfully.

The Boy Who Only Lived Twice by @letteredlettered : Harry Potter is an Unspeakable. Draco Malfoy is the wizard who shagged him. Adventure! Intrigue! Secret identities, celebrities, spies! It’s all right here, folks.”

The summary really doesn’t do this fic justice. My god, the emotions. And it’s so clever, with a great central concept allows Harry and Draco to discover each other all over again without the baggage of their pasts. Also fun and super hot. The kind of fic that breaks your heart and puts it back together again. I can’t remember how many times I’ve read it.

The If Sieve by Cest-what:An If Sieve lets you see how things would have unfolded if somebody had made a different decision at a particular time.”

I was just talking about the fact that it was much, much more than Draco’s refusal of Harry’s handshake that prevented them from becoming friends. This story explores all that. It’s one of those fics where you sense that the author knows the books inside and out. Lots of canon detail and perfect, perfect characterisations.  There’s also a brilliant sequel.

Drop Dead Gorgeous by Mistful: “Draco Malfoy is Harry’s Auror partner and one of the few people immune to Harry’s super Veela charms.”

I don’t read Veela fic, so it took me a long time to get over that and read Drop Dead Gorgeous. It turned out to be one of my all time favourites. Don’t let the cracky Veela aspect stop you. It was written pre-DH, the writer is SUPER sympathetic to Slytherins, no one is really in character, she breaks Ron and Hermione apart (which is normally a dealbreaker for me) but I still love this fic beyond reason. It’s hilarious and grabs your heart and refuses to let go until the end. Also a great mystery plot. It’s not online any more because the writer went professional.

The Empty House by Hollycomb:Harry is separated from his friends during the war and stumbles into an empty cabin that happens to belong to the Malfoy family.”

I love the progression of their interactions in this fic. They start out truly hating each other, but are forced through circumstances to, well, get over that. It’s beautifully written and ultimately very sad, but I really love it.

Such Great Heights by Softlyforgotten: “Draco Malfoy, wide-eyed and pale and in a decidedly ragged shirt, was crouched next to the pile of whatever the dragon had been eating.

Harry threw himself to a halt and yelled, “Merlin, how many times do I have to save your life?”

I read this very recently and fell completely in love with it. Great writing and I liked the characterisations. Both Harry and Draco are lost after the war, and finding each other, eventually, helps them both move forward through their trauma. Also there’s a dragon. And a wonderful portrayal of Ginny and the other characters.

Nightingale by Michithe_killer: “God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.-Jacques Deval”

From my original comment on the fic: My God. I can’t stop sobbing. I’ve been hiding in the bathroom for the last half hour. I think that may have been the most heartbreaking fic I’ve ever read. I’ve been completely immersed in it for the last three days, looking forward to getting back to it whenever I had to stop. And now I’m finished and I just want to die because I’m in so much pain. God. Which is a testament to how amazingly powerful this fic is. The writing was just beautiful. Funny, gripping, hot and devastating in all the right bits. Seriously, I’m just cut into pieces. It really struck home in a lot of ways. That said, I’d never want to un-read this. It was so worth the pain. An amazing accomplishment, I think.

Eternally Consistent by Kitsunealyc: “Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter assumed they would never be anything but civil enemies, until Potter lands on Malfoy’s doorstep, bleeding, covered in curses, and acting very strangely indeed.“

I loved this fic… so much. The writing is strong and intelligent. Draco is not only so much fun, but he’s got a depth and complexity that feels completely in character for canon Draco plus 8 years. His dialogue, his mannerisms,  everything. And Harry is wonderful too, a great contrast to Draco. We get both of their povs and that works in the most interesting way. The story is clever and nail-bitingly tense at times, but left me feeling happy and completely satisfied. There’s a weird Hermione/Millicent element, but the trio is still tight as friends so it didn’t end up bothering me that much. Overall the fic is funny, heart-warming, and all around wonderful.

A rare Kankuro with no face paint AND brotherly bonding featuring confused , slightly pleased, and annoyed Gaara?

I just….Gaara has meant an awful lot to me over the years and I am beyond happy that he got a great life and happiness and his siblings are so good to him now

I freaking cried when Gaara called Naruto his friend

like oh, my sand babies. I loved Gaara from the start, his outfit, his attitude, his look!

To be honest I might NOT have kept watching Naruto if Gaara hadn’t come along…. Sure, Shikamaru and Kiba and Neji had my attention and FREAKING SASUKE, but I was starting to lose interest

But then Gaara came into it. Another Jinchuriki , another child with a demon , like Naruto. MAN WAS I HOOKED

And boy was he worth it ! I LOVE this character, he goes through so much and he grows greatly as a character and I adore his friendships and bonds with people , Gaara is so special and great and cool!

I have wept for him , and I still do when I reminisce about his story. Gaara sends an important message to survivors of child abuse and bullying - you can still be anything you dream of , people will still care for you even if some treat you poorly .

Gaara has done bad things in his past but he overcame them ! And he’s grown from it , and that is such an important message !

Your past does NOT define you!

@lenfaz, oh hell yes! @like-waves-on-the-beach’s fic is so much fun! All sorts of sci-fi, swashbuckling adventure! With a fabulous plot and great use of an ensemble of characters that totally has me engaged! Emma’s story is breaking my heart, but in the best sort of way.

For those of you who haven’t read What It Means to Be a Savior, hop to! Punchy dialogue, good humor, and all around dynamic. I’d link but I’m on mobile and I always have a stupidly hard time. You can scroll one post down on my blog to find it, or maybe someone can be so kind as to reblog with a link.

anonymous asked:

one lexa scene that really breaks your heart?

oh, one would definitely be the moment in which she executes gustus for his crime, because that’s one agonising slow and very charged scene.

overall i love how much depth they give lexa in that episode, because the significant insights into her political world as well as her emotional condition that creates this interesting duality within her own persona, shapes this very gripping character and storyline if you’d ask me. it really breathes life into her. and this scene has my heart tight every time since the bareness really speaks to me.

this is probably my favorite moment

it is heartbreaking to see lexa having to kill gustus, someone she deeply cares for. and i think the reaching in and pulling the emotions out of her is what really moves me here - to see her vulnerability so full on display. it’s the ragged breathing, in the way how she can’t keep her mouth closed since her jaw is practically trembling. the rapid blinking of her eyes, that is very eye-catching. totally capable of feeling, even if she has chosen not to do it - she carries a deep seated sense of human emotion with her and it’s very apparent here. the mask falls and she invokes a memory between herself and gustus - ‘be strong’. there is a certain innocence in her youthness that is repesented here, too, in connection to her relationship with gustus, defined by fragility and strength. then, it’s interesting to see how her face works as a contrast to her other movements as well, because while her face reveals the devastation of the human heart, she gets ready for the hard kill in the same process, putting her right forearm onto her left wrist to steady her sword, getting ready to fulfill her duty. you know it’s going to be a precise kill, the finale ‘cut’, one she knows exactly where to place, slowly.

and then we have the scene in which she pulls the sword out after the kill

what i like about this moment is the balanced detail and contrast again, which is particularly heavy, as you can see in the shot above. while the killing in itself is clear, quiet and slow, as mentioned, the moment she has to pull her sword out again you can see that she becomes quick and almost harsh in her movements. it’s the abrupt pulling, the one, loud sharp intake of a breath that follows with it that sounds more like a hiss - it hurts, how she closes her mouth and then proceeds to cast her eyes down. she doesn’t even blink here. in fact, it’s very fascinating to see how this moment runs down. she watches herself pull the sword out of gustus and feels the full impact of it, which then leads her to look away, trying to keep herself in check, to be in control of her feelings. one would think she would fail, but no, she actually knows what she is doing. then again there is a moment in which you can see her heart shattering, feelings pouring out before she strips them away from her face. i love how the camera draws us in, real and wild. i often ask myself if she hears her own words echo in her mind in that moment, ‘it’s done’. you can clearly see her putting her walls back up again, and it’s both intriguing and terrific.

as little as we saw of gustus and lexa’s dynamic, it’s one i loved seeing and is very dear to me. and this scene? both delicate and haunting.

also, i do have to mention two other things. 1. the music in this scene is phenomenal, beautifully delivering the core of the moment. and 2. i said it once and i will say it again. Gustus’ final line ‘be strong’ is one that deeply ruins me. i associate it with the father-figure of the show, since Clarke’s father used the exact same line in his video for the people on the Ark and Kane does it too in season 3, and i feel that Gustus represented one to lexa.

Fic Rec #1: The Double Agent Vader Series, by Fialleril

The Official Summary:
The one where Vader turned double agent for the Rebellion about three years after ROTS, and Leia is now his primary contact with the Rebellion. This is a collection of oneshots that all fit into the same universe, but posted in no particular order. Updated when the muse strikes me.

My Summary: Darth Vader, the ultimate double agent, works closely with Senator Leia Organa, plotting the downfall of the Emperor and experiencing oblivious and accidental father/daughter bonding.

My Thoughts: Oh my God. This series is an absolute and utter work of beauty. I first discovered it while searching for fics with Ahsoka in them after the Rebels finale and immediately spent my entire evening reading it. It is one of the true underrated gems of Star Wars fic, perfectly in character. Each story breaks your heart in the best possible way every time. It’s got all your Force sensitive Leia needs, your good guy Anakin needs, your Leia and Anakin bonding needs. This series is a work of beauty, and I can’t say enough good things about it.

The Link to the Fic: Here.

The Link to the Author: Here on AO3 and here on tumblr.

And In The Silence That Follows by lazywriter7
By Organization for Transformative Works

Summary: “But as a guy who’s never been good at anything but killing- lemme tell you this. Wars can come to us, and we can fight to end them.”

“But nothing’s ever worth starting one. Nothing at all.”

As the dust of Civil War starts to settle- Steve begins to see a couple of things.

Words: 19k in 2 chapters

Notes: OKAY. This is the first and last (so far) MCU Civil War fic I have read, partly because I do not wish to relive the events of the movie in fic, and partly because this fic addresses literally every one of my complaints about the movie’s handling of Steve and Tony’s characters (which you can read about here, though I’d rather you read the fic first tbh). Seriously, this fic balances the scales and gives Steve actual character development in 19k words. Oh my god. While this isn’t technically a fix-it in the shippy sense (it ends on a hopeful note though), it definitely fixes my… less than savory feelings about the movie.

But yeah, bless the catharsis this fic provides! It allowed me to take a peaceful break from fandom after CW without the ill feelings, which not something I thought any fic could do while simultaneously balancing good writing and shipping and all that jazz. Prepare for the feels though, and make sure you’re seated because this one hits you in all the tender spots in your heart.

i’m on episode seven of season two of black sails and i have to stop because i gotta just write down a thing i’ve been super fucked up about for days:

anne bonny, snarling spitting-on-you “fuck” every third word always a split second away from pulling her blade out lightning-fast and running you through if you threaten her or jack, acting like the wild wrangly murder ‘dog’ she thinks she is, the monster she sees reflected back at her in her encounters with basically everyone, hostile and glaring and maybe THE most guarded character i’ve ever seen in my LIFE (maybe)

but then anne bonny following max up the stairs after she’s rescued her from suffering that reminds anne of her own past, and anne’s expression is suddenly all un-self-aware softness and confusion and yearning and fascination, eyes so big and so suddenly young?, just this unexpected innocence, just my heart breaking because oh, she has never experienced warmth and love like this before, this is brand new and it’s sad as fuck that she was so hardened by the hell that has been her life and is now so helpless at expressing and dealing with her emotions and so is still hardly more than a second away from raising her defenses again at the merest reminder, and it’s so quietingly achingly beautiful that she feels safe enough in this moment, following max with those gentle, soft, longing eyes – safe enough in this moment of loving someone – that she is lingering defenseless despite everything

letting max brush her thumb over the back of anne’s hand and hold it

just in this moment

lorelei-elf  asked:

Would you make a heart pounding rec list? With fics that are so amazingly written or have that one mindblowing aspect in it that makes you heart all fluttery? :)

Hi @lorelei-elf! I have a group of fics that I consider heart-pounding, amazingly written and make my heart all fluttery for a reason. It’s not the same reason for every fic, so these, while all brilliant stories, are different in theme, trope, plot and even era, from one another. I hope you enjoy them. :)

Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time I’m Leaving Without You) by @firethesound (NC-17, 44,7K)
Summary: Living with Draco was difficult; living without him is unbearable. But if there’s one thing Harry learned from the war, it’s that even when one life ends, the rest of the world goes right on living.
My notes: When I first read in your request “heart pouting” and “amazingly written” and “mindblowing”, I immediately thought of this fic. It was an instant reaction. It’s a Major Character Death fic, so yes, it is going to break your heart, but oh my god, the way it’s going to go! It’s outstanding, truly. It’s beautiful, it’s so beautiful, oh my god, I’m envious of the people who might read this for the first time. I know you’ll need some fluff afterwards, so I’ll give you some, but don’t let the potential heart ache stop you from reading this fic, it’s amazing.

Unabated (Series) by @eidheann (NC-17, 8,6K)
Summary: Harry asks for Draco’s help in finding a birthday gift for Narcissa. Draco doesn’t suspect ulterior motives. Until he does. // In the months since he’d started sleeping with Harry Potter, Draco’s carefully ordered life fell to shambles.
My notes: I’ll go ahead and say this Series was written for me, but I’m not being biased at all. I’m not! It’s just so, so good. There’s hung!Harry and that alone is going to get your heart pounding, but it’s also sexy and fun, and the second part is just full of the feels.

More Than That by joosetta (NC-17, 10,9K)
Summary: This is a story about two 52 year old men who refuse to age gracefully.
My notes: This is the fic I always, always rec after reccing Stop All the Clocks. In fact, this is the story I always rec when someone needs comfort read. It’s the story I never get tired of reading. It’s brilliant. I think I know entire sections of it by heart. It’ll make you happy in your heart. It’s funny and witty, and definitely heart-fluttery material. :)

One Floo Over the Lovegood’s Nest by Nattish (PG-13, 14,2K)
Summary: Harry is not terribly surprised that there are magical plumbers, chimney sweeps, and pest control men. He is surprised that one of them is Draco Malfoy. And that he’s bloody hot in a jumpsuit.
My notes: I think a lot of the heart-fluttery in this fic comes from Draco being so hot. :D And Harry having the hots for him. It’s awesome, because this infatuation starts before Harry realises it’s even Draco. But smitten he is, so there’s nothing for it but follow through.

Some Kind of Wonderful by @taradiane (NC-17, 34,6K)
Summary: Harry is adrift without an anchor after the prophecy that shaped the first eighteen years of his life is fulfilled. Restless and bored, and wanting to stop Hermione from nagging him about wasted opportunities, he decides to spend his time volunteering at a Muggle homeless shelter…then along comes Malfoy, with an anchor of his own that he needs help carrying.
My notes: This is one of the most beautiful Mpreg [Draco] fics I’ve read. My first mpreg, and still make my heart beat faster when I read it. The pacing is gorgeous, the way Harry and Draco’s friendship and relationship builds up is beautiful. Definitely an amazing read if you’re looking for something that makes your heart flutter. :)

A Hundred Visions and Revisions by oflights (R, 11K)
Summary: Harry doesn’t really like remembering. As he’s grown older, he’s found that discovering or creating or even making things up are all much less painful than remembering.
My notes: This is the sort of story that stays with you for a long, long time – in the best way. We get to see what could have happened, how could have Harry and Draco’s relationship be versus how it really happened. And oh my god, it’s just so, so good.
