The Way You Said “I Love You” Prompts
@stileslydiah requested “24. Without really meaning it”

Watching Derek dote on someone is hard – harder than Stiles thought it would ever be, despite the fact he knows it’s insincere; despite the fact it’s the job and nothing more.

It’s hard because Stiles hasn’t had those arms around him in months, hasn’t had opportunity to arrange a chance meeting on a crowded street in weeks, hasn’t had Derek’s eyes meet his and watched his mouth curl into a smile for him.

Derek’s team have been fairly indulgent, letting Stiles tag along on the assignment to observe and allowing him to blend with various crowds just to be close to Derek. Early on, before Derek insinuated himself into their mark’s life, they even allowed them to talk on the phone, but that might as well have been in another lifetime.

Sometimes, Stiles hates his job, hates Derek’s job, hates the fact they’d never have met if it wasn’t for their jobs because then he can’t hate it as much.

Stiles is across the restaurant and he can’t tear his eyes away from the back of Derek’s head for more than a few seconds at a time, usually at the prompting of the agent he’s sitting across from.

daliaaaaa could you tell me your fave sterek fics please?? :)

How could you ask me this? Do you have any idea how many sterek fics I’ve read over the years? How many I’ve loved?

This is a short list of the very few I could think of off the top of my head. I think I’ll probably make a recs page, because I’ve been meaning to for a long time. I have a recs tag, but that includes different pairings as well.

Sideways and Slantways and Longways and Backways

“I called you a slave-driver!” Stiles cried hysterically. “I called you an ogre! I stole all the blue paperclips!”
Derek raised an eyebrow at him.
“That’s company property!” he shouted, waving his arms madly in distress.
Derek ran a hand over his face. “It’s not theft if the vice president of the company gives you permission.”

The Prince

Stiles must surrender the most important thing in his life to protect the town… and no one can figure out what it was.

Around The Bend

The first time Derek catches sight of the new yoga instructor, Stiles is in the middle of showing a class how to do downward-facing dog. Derek walks into a wall.

Things don’t exactly improve from there.

Derek can’t stop staring at Stiles, the bendy new yoga instructor at his family’s gym. Stiles thinks Derek’s a repressed homophobe who hates Stiles for making him want the D. They fall in love.

can’t be hateful, gotta be grateful

“Be cool, Dad, we’ve decided to con Grandma.”

(Or, the one where the Stilinski men drag Derek to Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma’s and she gets the right wrong idea.)

Sterek Apocalypse Au

“Der” Stiles rubbed his nose in Derek’s cheek.

“Yes?”

“Thank you for the last two years,”  the fence behind them was starting to give in judging by the sound of hinges reaping off their place, Derek held Stiles a little tighter as they walked closer to the rooftop’s edge.
“Thank you for protecting me,” the metal rattled and the zombies screeched louder .
“Thank you for staying by my side,”  Derek could feel a hand touching his jacket and he leaned closer to the edge .
“Thank you for letting me love you,” Stiles closed his eyes, a tear falling down his cheek “I love you Der”.

“i love you too” Derek kissed Stiles chastely as they took the last step to the edge.

Groundbreakingly profound thoughts
  • I love how you know a fandom made it when it's drowning in all the gays, the gayer it is the stronger its fanbase... or maybe it's the other way around who knows.
  • Either way we're some thursty motherfuckers.
  • Can't say I disapprove.

*shouts into the void*: DOES ANYONE a) WATCH LEVERAGE B) FEEL LIKE SCREAMING ABOUT THE ELIOT/PARKER/HARDISON OT3 OR C) SEE ALL OF THE STEREK AU POTENTIAL THAT THIS SHOW PROVIDES

Hi, Saori! I see you blog a lot about Sterek and I was wondering if you read fanfiction too? If yes, can you rec me some fics to read? If not, can you recommend a blog that you think recs good fics? I find your taste in Larry fics similar to mine and I was hoping you can do the same with Sterek as well. Thank you!

Oh boy, honestly I have no idea what to say, I’m just glad that not everybody’s fed up with my Sterek spams (probably a lot of people are but oh well) :D

First things first, you should check out @theofficialstereklibrary @wheredidhiseyebrowsgo @underappreciatedsterek @acountrygirlsfun @christinesficrecs @eternalsterekrecs and if you like Larry too then @nottooldforthisship recces  awesome stuff all the time, (her sterek fic rec tag is a blessing) (my fic rec page is kind of a mess, but you can find some there too)

As of my recs, I usually don’t do it cuz I’m always anxious I’ll rec something the other doesn’t like, but since you asked so nicely here are some of my faves:

The Undisclosed (109k) - For once the pack doesn’t panic when a new hunter arrives. The gleefully sadistic man has labelled himself a collector of all things rare in the supernatural world and wants one of the rarest creatures; a werefox. Content that the pack is safe, the wolves focus on why their human member is acting so strange, ignoring the fact that Stiles only started once learning who the man wanted…

I’ve read this like, how many times? Way too many to be healthy? Seems accurate. And I’m totally not re-reading it again, nope.

Baking My Way Into Your Heart (179k) - Derek is an uptight college student, all work and no play. His carefully scheduled life is thrown kilter when his regular barista is replaced with someone new.

This fic changed my life tbh.

As Luck Would Have It (I’m already smitten) (188k, WIP) - When Stiles meets his Dom for the first time, it’s nothing like the cutesy, lovey-dovey Subflicks he used to drag Scott to when they were thirteen. There’s no burst of sunshine when they collide, no sudden swell of violins when their eyes meet; only a really big dent in the front of his Jeep and a seriously pissed off Alpha glaring at him from the sidewalk.

When I see the e-mail I shut down and don’t even look up until I finished reading the update. It’s by far the most exciting fic I’ve read, and I read A LOT.

Do Not Go Gentle (108k, WIP) - Derek Hale, Beacon Hills Alpha, is thrown into a dark cell which already contains another captive.   Someone quite young.   Someone who’s clearly been badly treated.  Someone who cannot speak and who has a cruel collar around his neck.Derek is both a Dom and an Alpha.  What do you think he’ll do?

Same with this. Mondays can’t come fast enough. Dark, but worth it for me.

Home (160k, WIP) - January seventh. Seven days since the start of 2015, and seven days since his father’s death. The bastard, he thinks bitterly. The past year Derek Hale had made it blatantly obvious that he hated his scrawny guts, taking every given opportunity to shove him up against a wall, growl threats in his ears and roll his eyes whenever he stepped into the room, muttering some snide comment about how spastic or idiotic he was.So why did he fucking volunteer to take him in?

You can’t even imagine what this fic does to me. It’s everything.

Thank you so much for your patience!

Monday Nights are for The Bachelor

Stiles knew from experience that Derek could be stubborn. He knew that mostly because Stiles held himself to a pretty high standard of stubbornness that was, on occasion, met with an even higher amount of stubbornness in the six feet that built up Derek Hale. In every instance, Stiles always found himself surprised and, if he was being honest with himself, impressed.

This was not one of those occasions.

Monday nights were dedicated to The Bachelor. Derek thought it was a fair request since it was only two hours, one night, each week, for six weeks out of the year, that he required the television in his own loft. The pack had other thoughts on the matter – the use of Derek’s television, not on The Bachelor – the pack had no clue about Derek’s secret love affair with the reality show. Derek did decide to turn four teenagers into his betas, but he was not an idiot. Okay, ignore that last example.

The point still stood that Derek had every right to lock himself in his apartment on Monday nights with a box of red wine and bowl of movie theater butter popcorn to watch a reality show that may or may not contain the use of tears, wildly concocted fights, and artfully chiseled men. The pack was settled and there hadn’t been any supernatural issues in months. Well, unless you counted the time Scott contracted a were-flu and all the werewolves in the pack were reduced to sniffling blanket piles. Stiles had shouldered the brunt of mothering everyone as they regained their strength and while he complained profusely, Derek had suspected the whole ordeal had been an ego boost for the kid.

A ding sounded from the kitchen and Derek took the popcorn out of the microwave, taking care not to burn his fingertips as he grasped it by the corners and tried in vain not to rip the bag in half. The effort was futile, as it always was, and Derek inevitably had a steaming cloud of popcorn explode in his face before falling to the floor. You would think that growing up with werewolf strength would give Derek the time and opportunity to figure out how to do something as mundane as opening a bag of popcorn without it staging a coup, but this was one skill he could not grasp. He stood there, dumbfounded, when he heard a key turn the tumblers in the apartment’s lock and Stiles walked in. He looked at Derek and blinked.

“I have so many questions,” started Stiles.

I can’t help but wonder when Stiles started meaning this much to Derek.

I can’t help but wonder when Derek decided that Stiles was good for calming him, a safe place during dark times.

I mean, we all know Stiles and Derek had one of the best developments on the show, and along the way, they developed a great amount of trust in one another, but this… this is something else.

When did Derek’s trust develop into this?

Maybe it had to do with the multiple times Stiles saved him, or the many unspoken agreements they had before going in to do something dangerous… or maybe, it was in the episode where Boyd passed away.

Stiles wasn’t close to Boyd, not as close as everyone else was to him, but somehow, he still understood what it felt like for Derek losing a pack member. Therefore, reaching a hesitant hand out to rest on Derek’s shoulder.

That simple gesture probably meant more to Derek than anyone realized.

Stiles was there trying to comfort him. Stiles cared enough to try and do so.

And maybe he kept Derek from falling apart altogether at that moment.

Maybe that’s when Derek realized that Stiles really was there for him and maybe that’s when the building trust he had for Stiles locked into place.

Maybe that’s when Derek realized that Stiles could be his anchor.

Maybe.

Remember that thing I started ages ago in @homemadesterekpie’s ask and promised well over a month ago would be updated in two weeks?

Lol.

Anyway here’s a 24k update of wildly indulgent feelings and fluff and a lil sex and a lot of histrionic metaphor in the name of love, posted three weeks late because I am a garbage person.

Float Until You Learn to Swim // Part Two

Derek never meant to end up in D.C. Had never even been, before he moved. It was just something that happened, that he decided not to fight, for the first time in his life.

He spent those first few months after leaving on the road, going from sight to sight with Cora. Trying to relearn how to be a big brother, remember how to be something other than a soldier.

They didn’t say much, in the beginning. The car was mostly quiet, just a gentle hum of the tires on the road and the rush of the breeze through an open window.  Occasionally, Cora would look up from her phone, scrolling through Pinterest lists of road-trip recommendations to suggest a destination. Derek would grunt his assent and enter it in the GPS, driving until the sun set.
