Top Ten Awesome Fanfics *

* yep, not “all-time favourite”, because I cannot choose in all objectivity only ten fics. This list is a list of ten fics* chosen in my five main fandoms that I love and feel like they should be read, but it could have been ten others … It’s very hard to choose. One day I’ll do a real masterpost fic rec …
* yes, I’ve cheated. There are waaaaay more than just ten fics here … Sorry not sorry.

The lovely @justkeeponthegrass had a brillant idea : to make a collection of our favourite fanfics to show writers just how much we appreciate, respect and admire their work. I personally owe a great deal to fanfic writers, especially in the Merlin fandom, for they helped me get through a very hard period of my life. Fanfic writers have been and are constant companions of my life, whether I’m sad, happy, tired or feeling excited, they always deliver, they are amazing people who do an amazing work just because they like it. I admire the hell out of any of you, and the following ten titles, plus the special and honorable mentions, are me trying to tell you how much you mean. Very, very long post incoming …

Words Written on Your Wrist | Soulmates! Spencer Reid x Reader | Part 2

Fandom: Criminal Minds

Pairing: Soulmates! Spencer Reid x reader

Requested: Nope, I just figured I’d jump on the soulmate band wagon

Requests: OPEN

Part 2/?

       Part 1 Part 3

Words: 1699

Warnings: none

Summary: Everyone’s wrist has three words on it, the first three words you’ll hear your soulmate say. You think the idea of soulmates is just a bunch of junk, but you’re in for a rude awakening when you meet your soulmate at your new job at the BAU. Because you worry you will lose your new dream job, you keep the fact that he’s your soulmate hidden, pretending as if those three words didn’t exist.

A/N: Thank you all so much for all the positive feedback! It honestly means so much to me!! Here’s the second chapter!!

You and Rossi drove to the second dump site, going over possible theories as you navigated the foreign roads of New York. When you got to the scene you ducked under the yellow crime scene tape and took in your surroundings. It was a park, so very public. There was a bit of snow on the ground, though based on the photographs there was more when she was found.

“She wasn’t found until the snow thawed.” You commented, “There was a blizzard the night she was dumped, which covered the body, that probably upset him, which could explain why there was the short time period between the second and third kills than the first and second.”

“He could also be deteriorating.” Rossi added, walking around.

“I don’t understand what message hes trying to send. He takes average middle to upper class women, holds them for a week, doing god knows what, but it isn’t torture, then stabs them, then lays them in very public places. They all had contusions on their head, so blitz attack, the unsub either isn’t very physically big or lacks the social skills to lure them.”

Rossi agrees, giving the scene another once over before going back to the SUV. As you began driving back to the local precinct, silence took over the car and you thought that you couldn’t wait for 3 months from now when you’re settled in and part of the team. Since they act so much like a family, you felt a bit on the outside. That is, if you last three months and this soulmate situation doesn’t rear its ugly head. After a bit Rossi laughed, well not so much laughed but moer so pushed air through his nose in an amused manor.

“You do know that the Bureau keeps record of what’s on all their agents wrists, right?” He asks, looking at you with an expression you couldn’t quite make out.

“Yeah I know, I remember them taking a photogr- Oh. You heard, didn’t you?” Your stomach drops as you realize what he was getting at. Of course your superiors would know what your tattoos said in case there was a conflict of interest on a case or for identification purposes.

             “I did.”

“What does this mean?” You ask, hands gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles.

“I think that depends on how you want to handle the situation.”

“There isn’t even a situation in my mind. Or at least I don’t want there to be. I don’t want a soulmate. I’m happy with my job the way it is and I don’t want to risk it. I’m my own person, I don’t need another half.” You say with a sign.

“So you’re just going to let him keep thinking he’s a Glitch?” You can hear the disappointment and sadness in his voice. Of course, he would be sad for his friend, they had been working together for years.

“I don’t know. I just. I don’t want a soulmate.” You say quietly, a guilty feeling settling in your gut. “Please don’t tell him.”

“We’re bound by laws that say we can’t reveal what anyone’s tattoos say, it’s one of the strictest rules we have in the FBI, so I couldn’t even if I wanted to.” Rossi says as you pull into the parking lot of the local police station and you let out a sigh of relief.

“Good, you’re back, what did you find?” Hotch asks as you walk in.

You and Rossi go over all of the things you noticed in detail, explaining your theories. Spencer was standing in front of a white board, a map taped to it, mumbling something to himself and then writing it down on the board, and that guilty feeling started to rise again. Quickly looking away you grabbed the file for the case.

“Y/L/N, why don’t you go talk to the victim’s partners, we have them in the interview rooms, Reid, will you join her?” Hotch asks after a moment.

You curse internally, though you plaster a normal look on your face and nod, waiting for Reid to finish the geographical profile before you go to the interview rooms. Glancing at him you kicked yourself, you have to get over the awkward and guilty feelings, you’re going to be working with him for a long time, hopefully, so you need to get better at acting normally around him, you tell yourself.

“Hello, my name is Dr. Spencer Reid and this is SSA Y/F/N Y/L/N,” Reid introduced you both and you shake the fiancée of the first victim’s hand.

You two went through the motions of questions, did Angela have any enemies, what were her habits, where was he last, the works. You ignored the nagging feeling that was pulling you left, which just so happened to be the side of you that Spencer was sitting on. It was like your body was telling you to reach out and touch him, but you definitely kept your hands to yourself. Though you hate to admit you moved your chair forward and to the left a couple inches, disguising the leftward movement with the forward one. Maybe if you were closer it would get rid of that annoying feeling and you could concentrate more.

“No, no I don’t think she had any enemies, everyone loved her. God, I loved her. We weren’t perfect together like everyone else but we loved each other, we made it work.” The fiancée went on, tears in his eyes. You frowned, what could he mean by that?

“Im sorry for asking this, but what do you mean?” You ask, leaning forward a bit.

“Angela and I met in a support group for Glitches.” He clarified.

You and Spencer nod, and you see Spencer fidget uncomfortably. After that you finish the interview quickly, moving onto the next the second victims husband. When you walked in and shook his hand you immediately noticed that his wrist was bare, and you frowned. Not only was this man a Glitch, he was a Blank. You envied him. You glanced at Spencer, wondering if he had noticed the pattern arising as well, but he didn’t seem to look at the man’s wrist at all. As you Reid was about to dismiss the man after asking all the routine questions you quickly interrupted to say that you had one more question for him.

“How did you and your wife meet?” You ask, hoping that this could give you at least some direction.

“We uh, we met at a group for Glitches.” He said as he held up his wrist you then thanked him for his time and he left.

“Both of the couples so far met at the support group, we should ask the others as well.” You say quickly, “It could be where the unsub is meeting them.”

“I agree, good catch,” Reid says with a small smile, but you noticed he didn’t make eye contact with you.

Soon enough you found out that out of the four couples, all were Glitches, all four of the four couples met at support groups. When you explained this to the team, they immediately called Garcia asking about all the support groups in the area. Glitches weren’t that common, only about one per million people, and New York state’s population was just under 20 million people, which meant there were about 20 Glitches in total. Garcia found two support groups, both in New York City, but dozens of online forums. Together you came to the conclusion that the unsub may be a Glitch as well, possibly murdering these people because he was jealous that they were happy even without a soulmate.

“We should have two of us go undercover and go to the meetings.” Morgan suggested.

“I agree,” Rossi said next.

“I can go,” Prentiss volunteered with a shrug.

“Your script isn’t very believable as a Glitch though, Prentiss, like you said before, it is a pretty common sentence.” Morgan said with a sign, “Maybe JJ or Y/L/N could go, her is more ambiguous.”

“I can go.” Reid said suddenly, catching everyone’s attention.

“I could do it as well.” JJ gave Spencer a quick glance.

Luckily the team didn’t have to wait long because the first support group met that night at a local community center. JJ and Spencer were fit with wires, and instructed to go in with a story already set to explain how they were Glitches and that they made a pact to go to the support group together. Hotch, Prentiss, Rossi, Morgan, and you all waited outside in two surveillance vans, listening in on the wire. You watch as your teammates walk into the building, hoping that they would be able to find something out about the unsub.

“Hi, welcome to GA, Glitches anonymous, you two are new, what are your names and script so we can get you a name tag?” You heard someone greet. You stopped your jaw from dropping as your heart beat quickened, did they mean what you thought they did? Reaching up to tuck hair behind your ear you notice your hands are shaking. Glancing to your other teammates you make eye contact with Rossi for a second before you tear your eyes away.

“Excuse me?” JJ asked, Reid staying silent.

“Your script, what’s on your wrist, in order to build trust, we all write down what’s the first things we heard our soulmate say to show that we are willing to be vulnerable.” The person obviously running the support group explains.

“What if you’re a Blank?” JJ asks, obviously trying to give Spencer and out so that he doesn’t have to say what his is over the wire.

“Blanks are so rare, we’ve only had two in the 20 years we’ve been around. A lot of people like to claim their Blanks so they don’t have to write it down but we also always roll our sleeves up to keep everything out in the open. So, what are your names and script?”

“Im JJ, mine says ‘you must be’” JJ conceded, holding her wrist out.

“and you, sir?” You subly tried to take deep breaths to calm your heart. They were all in the room when you told Garcia that you love coffee, they would all know immediately.

“Uh, Im Spencer and uh,” He pauses and coughs uncomfortably, you glance to your teammates, who all look like they pity him as they listen. He had been working there for about a decade now and he never revealed what the words on his wrist said. “My script says ‘I love coffee.’”

Inside Choices is a behind-the-scenes blog from the Pixelberry team!

With Choices nearing its one year anniversary, The Crown & The Flame trilogy has come to an end. It’s been an epic year-long journey for Kenna, Dom, and the rest of their ragtag crew. As one of the first books to launch with Choices, the team behind TC&TF started work on it long before August. Months later, saying farewell to one of our first series feels like saying good-bye to an old friend.

The team has weathered marathon brainstorms and late-night writing sessions, and celebrated epic plot twists and awesome character art. With the final chapter in the rearview mirror, the writers of TC&TF took the time to reflect and reminisce…

The Crown & The Flame trilogy is over, and it’s been quite the journey. How do you feel?

Kathleen: Super weird. It kinda feels like graduating from college, actually. Like, you’ve been immersed in this cool new world for so long and surrounded by these people you’ve grown to love (even though Val’s always stealing your food and Dom wants to party all the time instead of doing homework), and you get so attached that you kind of forget there’s a world outside. Now graduation is looming and half of me is like “oh thank goodness” but the other half is going “WAIT, NO, I LIKE IT HERE, AAAAA”.

Eric: So many feelings! Sad because I’ve dedicated so many hours to TC&TF, and it’s like saying goodbye to close friends. Happy because we were fortunate enough to get to create this whole world from scratch! Proud because I feel we’ve brought the series to a satisfying conclusion. And of course grateful for the fans, whose passion for it made Books 2 and 3 a reality.

Since we’re at the end, why not talk about beginnings? How did TC&TF first come about? What were the early days like?

Kathleen: Lot of brainstorming, LOT of revisions. The first story that we outlined was much more focused on courtly intrigue, less so on the action. It looked totally different from the version of TC&TF that exists today, but there are a few relics from that first version that we kept because we loved them so much. For instance, Sei Rhuka was one of the first characters we created for that earlier story, and she survived the move to TC&TF pretty much unchanged (because what would you change? She’s perfect).

There were some late nights, and times when I definitely thought I was gonna crack under the stress. Fortunately I had Eric and Kara, two heroes of legend, fighting by my side.

Kara: The first draft of TC&TF was written under so much pressure and at such a frantic pace that it was nothing like the book that ended up being released. To give you an example of how much things change, Val Greaves, everyone’s favorite mercenary, was originally a male character just named Mercenary. Kathleen had the idea of making her a woman, and then the character of Val really started to emerge as the snarky, mean voice that the cast was currently lacking.

Another thing that came about because of that time was just the incredible trust between the writers. On most products, there’s a more formal process of logging changes, but because we were so short on time, we were just actively editing each other’s work, and I think we managed to get through that without killing each other, so it really says a lot about how well we work together! Sometimes you write your first draft and you don’t realize how much better it can be until you take a step back. I wrote a scene once where Dom is carrying a sack of flour down the castle hallway, and I thought, this is boring, I’ll add in a choice. Oh, I’ll give the choice a timer! Then I realized I’d just made a minigame about carrying a sack of flour. So I cut the whole thing. But sometimes it isn’t until you write the scene that you realized you’re going down a bad or boring path. The early days were a lot of that.

We rewrote a lot of things together, but it was such a privilege to work with Kathleen and Eric on creating this world. It was amazing when we reached a point where we’d revised and revised and revised and finally felt like we’d burned away everything that was boring or not working and all that was left was even stronger than it had been before.

Eric: Hectic! It’s one thing to write a book now, knowing what Choices looks like, but back then we were writing with placeholder art (everyone was Queen Adriana!) and we just had no idea what was going to work and what wasn’t.

Also, I echo everything Kara said above about trust. So many times I wrote a thing and thought, “Oh gods, I’m a fraud! I’m a terrible writer!” and then had either Kara or Kathleen or Jessica swoop in and turn my garbage into gold. Having the safety net of a great team makes standing on the tightrope a lot more fun.

Strong world building is crucial to any good fantasy story. That ranges from history and culture to what you yell when you stub your toe. What was the worldbuilding process like for the Five Kingdoms?

Kathleen: You start super general (place names, general time period/level of tech, climate), then build your details on top of that. Every detail comes from somewhere, everything is the way it is for a reason. In those early stages it helped us to give each of the kingdoms a “thing” that they’re known for. For Fydoria, it’s knowledge and art, for Thorngate, it’s trees and archery, for Lykos, it’s jerks and backstabbers, lol.

That gave you a jumping off point for what these people would be like, and how they relate to the other kingdoms. We were also very deliberate about what colors and styles of clothing the different kingdoms would wear, which I was really into. It’s great to look at a character and immediately know whose team they’re on (or whose team they want you to think they’re on…)

Then you take your pages and pages of notes to the artists, and they do some kind of beautiful magic that turns your dreams into something real you can look at. We work with some AMAZING artists. I have the Aurelian castle set as my computer’s wallpaper because I like to stare at it all day.

Eric: Ditto what Kathleen said. The incredible art helps tremendously with this process. Sometimes we’d get a piece of art back and it’d be SOOOOO good that it’d inspire us to go in a new direction. That kind of moment (like with Val) is really special.

What did you consider the most challenging part of writing TC&TF?

Kathleen: Not making every chapter 5,000 lines long, haha. I have issues with writing these super long, flowery dialogues, but thankfully Eric is there to keep me in check. It can also be hard to find a character’s voice sometimes, especially if you and that character don’t have a lot in common.

Eric: Keeping Kathleen in check. HA! Seriously, though, we had a HUUUUGE cast, and all of the characters have compelling backstories and fun voices and fans on social media. Trying to make sure everyone got ample screentime (while still telling a good story) was tough.

Going off of that, what were your favorite scenes to write in TC&TF? (Spoiler alert!)

Kathleen: Oh man. I’m a mean person who loves writing the super intense emotional climaxes where everyone is crying and screaming at each other. So basically the whole Whitlock/Hex arc. One of my favorite writing moments though was when I was working on that kraken scene in book 2 and I had to turn to my boyfriend and say “Hey, what sound does a kraken make?” Boyfriend: “<kraken sound>” Me: “Yeah… but like, how do you spell that?”

Kara: My favorite scene to write was a dream sequence where Kenna and Dom get married, because I got to jump around in different scenarios and it felt a lot like fan fiction in the best way. But my second favorite was when Val has to pretend to be a handmaiden for Zenobia Nevrakis. I loved the idea of getting to see from Val’s point of view as she has to infiltrate this girly world of gowns and bodices. She’s usually a character who’s seen it all and can handle anything, so it was fun to get her out of her element for once.

Brandon: I had a major blast with the entire final battle, but I have a special place in my heart for the scene between Luther and Kenna in Chapter 13. I love when you get to shine the spotlight on a bad guy, in a way that makes you almost sympathize with them…but not quite.

Eric: By far, the action scene where Dom turns into a dragon for the first time. I was actually writing from my apartment, and I was like, “If I turned into a dragon, what would be the most fun, badass things I could do?” (Cut to me flapping my arms through the air as I run around my apartment breathing imaginary fire on unsuspecting Nevrakis boats…) It was silly, but I did get some good stuff outta that.

TC&TF is filled with so many different villains, heroes, and everyone in between. Who was your favorite character to write?

Kathleen: I have a soft spot for terse warrior types who just have no time for your nonsense, so writing Sei is always super fun. She behaves the way we all sort of wish we could, except she can get away with it because she’s crazy strong and can light you on fire with her mind.

Brandon: Oof, tough choice. I think we all have a lot of fun writing Val (because who doesn’t love that character who gives the bad guy the finger?). Personally, though, my favorites to write have been the Nevrakis, specifically Luther and Zenobia. Zenobia is just so annoyed and out of place most of the time, which is fun to play with. She’s like, “Ugghhh, dragons? Really? Whatever.” It’s like she stepped in off the set of Mean Girls. And Luther is just such a fun jerk. He’s got sort of a cynical wisdom, but also has zero self-awareness and is totally unapologetic for any of the ruthless stuff he’s done. That is a character I really love to hate.

Eric: Severin. I felt like his art asset was really imposing, and his character represented this first challenge for Kenna on this impossible path. It was fun to make him this physical, monosyllabic, gruff presence that couldn’t be reasoned with. She’d have to eventually fight him in combat to prove herself. Plus, he’s kinda dumb, and I love writing dumb characters. Alas, no one seems to care much for Severin…

In a way, TC&TF lives on in The Royal Romance. Olivia in TRR is a descendant of Zenobia, for one thing. If Kenna and Dom and the rest of the crew were around now in present day Cordonia, what do you think they’d be like?

Kathleen: Kenna is super responsible and runs her Kingdom like a proper adult, but when she gets frustrated with politics she dreams of running away to tour with Val and Sei’s metal band (Damsels of Destruction). Kailani just won like, 12 olympic medals for weightlifting and martial arts. During the off season she and Noa split their time between running a gym and touring with Cirque du Soleil. Whitlock runs one of those tech companies that does supersonic maglev trains and smart dishwashers and stuff. He’s totally gonna colonize Mars. This is fun, I wanna do this all day!

To write fantasy, you had to know the fantasy genre pretty well. What makes the fantasy genre special to you? And what are some of your favorite books?

Kathleen: I was raised on a diet of Grimm fairy tales and Greek legends (which probably explains a lot about me). I love the fantasy genre because you take these wild, magical worlds that look completely different from anything we know, and use them to explore themes that are really close to home (coming of age, sacrifice, family, etc). Fantasy is a dramatic metaphor for real life. Because I’m a huge nerd, I dig fantasy books that have logical, internally-consistent magic systems. Sabriel by Garth Nix is hands down my favorite book, but the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede was the first series I got super into. Arglefraster!

Eric: When I was little, I wanted to play Dungeons & Dragons with the older kids in my neighborhood, but they wouldn’t let me play. That led me to this one book (I don’t remember the name) that was basically like single-player D&D. It had a page where you kept track of your hit points, potions, etc. It was incredibly nerdy, but also the awesomest book I’d ever experienced. Little did I know it was paving the way for my career.

Pixelberry was the first place where I really felt comfortable letting my inner nerd loose. I finally got to not only play D&D (we ran a campaign after hours), but to write something within a similar world…

What’s next for The Crown & The Flame team? Can you give us a hint about what you’ll be working on after this?

Kathleen: *Evil cackling, hands rubbing together in glee* Ahem. I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I seem to have been typecast as a genre writer and I am 100% okay with this.

Eric: No hints. We’re definitely not planning something for Halloween.

Ooh, intriguing… To all the fans of The Crown & The Flame, thank you for coming with us on this epic journey! Check back every week for more Choices adventures!

You took a bite of your ice cream as you drove both you and Peter down the winding road. “How much further?”

“Not too much further. We should be there soon,” You told your best friend and thought about the picnic basket and necessities in the trunk. Soon enough, you pulled into a dirt parking space and got out of the car to grab the basket and extra things. Not many people visited this hidden gem.

The hidden gem was an open field, which just so happened to be framed with trees. It allowed for the outer parts to have shade, but the center to have open space to allow the sun to come in and watch the clouds pass by, waiting for the sun to go hide away and let the moon and stars come out. Which was perfect for the end-of-May weather, making for a great day.

It was near an apple orchard, which was by an ice cream stop, but not many people actually visited this field. You and Peter grabbed the basket filled with goodies and the blankets in the back of the car. “Race you there!” Peter shouted and took off running.

“Not fair!” You yelled back, grabbing the last of the things and shutting the back of your car, locking it before taking off. “That was so mean, Peter!”

You ran with your hands full to find Peter laying on the ground in the middle of the open field. You laughed a bit and walked up to him, sitting beside the boy with his eyes closed. “Hey!” You yelled, making Peter jump.

(Boyf Riends 16) “I found you–in the bathroom at a formal event, crying in the bathroom over how you saw yourself as ugly” (I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE ANON, I SEE IT AND I THINK ITS GREAT)

“You know…” Jeremy smiled as he fixed his tuxedo tie. “I never thought we’d make it here…” His eyes in awe as he took in the chandeliers and grand, gold and champagne paisley wall decals, this was easily the nicest place either boy had been.  “Prom.”

They made it to their senior prom, of course not without some flaw. Jeremy had missed his chance to ask Christine, who was already going with a group of girls as they either had passed up too many invitations or just got none. Michael, too, missed his chance in asking anyone out. So as per usual, the friends were together again. “This is going to be nuts…” Michael muttered to himself, and then nodded. He pinched both sides of his bowtie and ran a hand through his hair. “Let’s make this the best night two bros can have!” They were dateless, sure, but they survived to see their senior prom.

Jeremy watched Michael bolt through the crowd of fancily dressed teenage students and smiled. His best friend cleaned up pretty nice in a red suede suit and bowtie. It wasn’t until he lost Michael on his sprint towards the pier side ballroom that Jeremy felt a sweat start up. “MICHAEL! WA-WAIT!” He gulped narrowing tripping over some girl’s excessively long gown. “S-sorry” He gulped, holding up his hands defensively as her date gave Heere a look that made him want to disappear. Squip-less Jeremy was working on the little dexterity he was known for. He followed the herd to the ballroom, ooh’ing and awe’ing at the dome shaped room, wall to ceiling windows giving them a perfect view of the riverside pier.

It wasn’t long before this elegant ballroom turned into a massive, grinding house party. There was something visually jarring watching formally dressed teens turn into gyrating, jittering juveniles who were most likely looking to get a little something-something at the end of the night. Jeremy felt himself nervously swaying side to side, off beat, as he tried to locate safety.

His body was a small boat lost in a sea of yachts. He was barely keeping himself up as beautiful, massive ships swayed and moved along the endless ocean of a dance floor. “Jeremy!” Called a beautiful red buoy in a bowtie coming to his way, he drew a small breath of relief. He stopped swaying by the time Michael reunited with him. “They have milkshake SHOTS” Michael beamed chugging a small glass of pure dairy goodness down. “The music is kinda lame, what the top fuckboy hits of 2017?”

“H-Heh yeah…” Jeremy rubbed his arm a bit; usually he felt a little more ease being around Michael. Something about the atmosphere was off putting. Maybe it was something about the music? Or the fact they were two dateless guys. Or perhaps how good Michael looked in his suit, clean cut, bright smile, and the red was the same shade of Jeremy’s favorite drink.

“You ok? You look…” Michael looked Jeremy up and down, enjoying how nice he looked in a plain black suit with a red tie. Shame his look didn’t match the expression he wore; his delicate, wispy brown brows furrowed forming a small ‘v’ wrinkle between them. Michael wanted to iron out the worried line with his thumb…but … “You look constipated” Jeremy internally flinched. Was it that obvious he was uncomfortable? “We can bounce you know, prom isn’t that great, the food looks meh at best. We can –“

“No, no!” Jeremy didn’t drag Michael out to prom just to bail. He wanted to be here. He really did, there was just something bothering him. It had been since they purchased the tickets and the suits together. “Actually, I think you might be on to something.” He chuckled, looking for a good out, thankfully even when Michael didn’t mean to he managed to give Jeremy an escape route from this boss battle. “I’m going to hit the bathroom.”

“O-Ok Jeremy…” Michael watched as his small, lanky friend spun on his heel and zipped through the dancing crowds. He weaseled his way through densely packed bodies. He left a train of ‘sorrys’ and ‘excuse mes’ as he bumped and weaved to the opposite end of the dance floor. He kept his eyes on the floor worried his big feet would catch something, a dress or someone’s heels, and send him careening to the floor. The last thing he needed was to fall flat on his face.

Without taking his eyes off the floor he hurried into the bathroom and sighed. Why was this not as great as he thought? What was throwing him off? “Come on…prom…this is fun” He glared at his reflection in the mirror, his blue eyes focusing everything in him to bring a pleasant feeling…that was until the door opened. He jumped at the sight of Christine waddling in her red dress. “C-C-Chri-nn?!” Jeremy’s voice cracked so bad the rest of her name got lost somewhere between his throat and his lips.

“Jeremy what are you doing hanging out in the girls’ bathroom? At a formal event?” She blinked a few times, “doesn’t matter do you have a pin or something—of course you don’t who would. UGH” She rubbed her face and groaned.

“W-What’s wrong?”

Christine turned fully and exposed her ripped lacing ribbon to her corset top. “I have no idea how I managed to rip the STRING to the corset…I’ve been asking around for pins or anything to keep my top from falling off…” Her voice sounded so defeated and low, it was unlike her. “So much for prom huh…”

Jeremy bit the inside of his cheek, he mulled over solutions for a second before glancing down at his thin, neck tie. “Hey…” He slowly undid his tie and folded it in half length wise. “You think this might work?”

Willing to try Jeremy positioned himself by the sinks while Christine stood in front of him with her back to him. He started threading the tie like a new string, lacing her back up with care.

“I saw Michael out there, he looks really neat. He was taking to Rich.” She giggled, “did you come here with Michael ?”

“Yup, just bros flying solo.” Jeremy muttered, he was more than aware how nice Michael cleaned up for prom. “I’m surprised he’s having so much fun…” Prom was more Jeremy’s idea, Michael agreed because they were both dateless…and Jeremy was in need of some moral support tonight.

“Oh…really? I thought…” She paused but didn’t let the thought die, much to Jeremy’s dismay. “I thought you guys came together, you know…but it makes sense. Why not, you two are just friends right? Must be nice to just hang with your friends.” Christine chimed her voice back to its chipper tone.  Once Jeremy was done she spun around and paused. “You should probably get out of the girl’s bathroom…and join us, maybe you can squeeze a little boogey-oogy- woogy time. I might ask Michael to dance since we’re going twinsies on the red.”

“Y-Yea sure.” He watched Christine, in her newly laced dress exit. She looked equally as amazing in red. Jeremy could picture Christine and Michael dancing together. A perfect red pair of bubbling smiles and giggles…he felt envy build up inside him the longer he thought about how much fun Michael was having. How well he was blending in. The last party Jeremy was at, Michael had stowed away and wasn’t anywhere to be seen for the longest time.

Jeremy looked over his shoulder and felt heat build around his face. His eyes started to water when a very old and familiar thought crossed his mind. “You look like shit.” He whispered to himself. Just as he sniffled back the heated tears the door swung open.

“Jeremy! There you are” Michael laughed, “dude why are you in the girl’s bathroom, by yourself? At…prom?” Michael’s smile was forced, one look and he felt an old memory surface. Being alone in the bathroom with a sorry face? Michael knew that feeling a little too well. “You ok? You look…well did you at least use the bathroom?” He thumbed to one of the stalls. “Or are you planning on using the little boy’s room?”

“I’m…” Jeremy sighed, “I’m not fine.” He admitted softly. “…this sucks.”

“This was your idea, its prom, we have no dates of course it sucks.” Michael chuckled, “but hey we’re …in it together, right?”

“Oh yeah, that makes me feel better” Jeremy groaned, “Going to Prom with my bro who looks ten times better than me.” Who gave Michael the right to look nice? And why was he saying “my bro” like it was a bad thing. Why…did prom feel so strange all of the sudden. He felt a hand touch his shoulder and slowly he brought his eyes up to Michael’s.

“Don’t tell me you’re crying in the bathroom because you see yourself as ugly?” He spoke softly, “Jeremy you look great, any girl out there would be stoked to dance with you. Like man, you’re like …suaver than 007 in Goldeneye cover! You’re like…” He started to babble and ramble, Jeremy felt his cheeks flush a bit.

“I don’t want to dance with anybody out there…” He kept his eyes on the tiled ground. “…I don’t know I just do think its … we’re here together so are we really ‘dateless’?”

“a-ah..no I guess…I mean…” Michael’s babbling was now cut short. The silence hung heavy; there was a strange understanding happening. Michael started to realize what about prom wasn’t jiving well with Jeremy. Neither knew how to say it, how to cross that line of verbalizing that feeling. Suddenly the blasting bass sounds died into a slow, ancient ballad. “Heh Whitney…”

“Bet everyone on the dance floor is screaming the lyrics out..” Jeremy added, it was a slow dance song. He looked back at Michael after staring off towards the door and noticed there was a clammy, shaky hand outstretched towards him. Michael didn’t say a word, nor did Jeremy. He kept staring at the hand as the song ticked by. Slowly Jeremy placed his hand in Michael’s, after waiting so long he flinched before grasping his hand.

Michael wasn’t sure how to hold Jeremy…his heart made it hard to keep beat with the song. They settled on awkwardly holding each other’s waist and swaying back and forth.

“I’m glad.” Jeremy spoke up, “I’m glad I’m here with my favorite person…” He kept his head down, his face redder than Michael’s suit.

Jeremy might have said this before but it sounded so much more…than before. No this was different this was…Instead of saying the millions of things he could have said Michael opened his mouth and started to sing, off key, “…I don’t have to look, very much further. I don’t wanna have to go where you don’t followwww

“Oh jeez, Michael, I’m trying to say like…” This was what he was missing, the worries slid away from him. A truly genuine smile formed on Jeremy’s nervous and slightly sweaty face. He didn’t want to be dateless at prom, he didn’t want to be here with his bro…He wanted to be here with Michael. Jeremy couldn’t get another word past Michael who was belting every note as if to drown out the giddiness. “God, Michael…” Jeremy cautiously leaned into Michael’s chest and resorted to hugging him as they swayed to the Whitney Houston song in the middle of the girl’s bathroom.

Slowly, Michael’s arms wrapped around Jeremy’s small frame and locked him into a tight hug.

Tonight, Michael wasn’t alone in the bathroom.

Onesies

This little story is based off of a post I made about Anti liking onesies. I couldn’t help myself since I found the entire thing really adorable. Thank you @jiminy-krispies for sharing these lovely ideas and creds to you for also giving me a few ideas on how to write this out.

Also, if you want to know Anti’s main look for this story, just check out this post made by the talented @atomiktaco.

I guess there’s sort of Danti implied but you can either take the interaction as platonic or romantic, whichever you prefer.

I’m tired but I wanted to finish this before I went to bed, so it may not be the best thing ever but I did it! Yaaaay.

Anyway, enjoy! x

Anti is alone. Not by choice of course; Dark said he was going to be gone for about a week for ‘business reasons’. Anti doesn’t really care why Dark is leaving, he’s just glad that he gets the house to himself. Why?

Because if Dark isn’t around, that means he can wear his onesies.

Several months ago, Anti got himself some onesies. He saw them at the store and couldn’t resist the incredible temptation. He barely even made it through the door before he slipped one on and started sliding around the house with it. This didn’t come with a price, however. When Dark came home that day to find Anti, a grown man, sliding around the floors of their house with a onesie on, he certainly had a lot to say.

The amount of times Anti was called something along the lines of ‘childish’ was uncountable.

After that, Anti made sure to prove that he was an adult and capable of being ‘more mature’. After telling Dark that he got rid of the onesies, he was never seen in one again and didn’t even mention them.

Instead, he just hid them hidden in a box in his closet, keeping them for a time where he would be alone and could wear them once more.

What, did you really think he would get rid of them? Silly.

Of course, now that Dark won’t be home for a week, Anti takes this as the perfect opportunity to bring out his beloved onesies. The second he’s certain that Dark isn’t coming back for another seven days, he dashes into his room faster than the speed of light and practically rips the box open. As soon as the soft fabric of the pyjama is between his fingers, a beaming grin spreads across Anti’s face.

“This is gonna be fuckin’ epic,” he chuckles, eyes gleaming with childish excitement.

It’s only minutes before Anti has one on and is proudly admiring his appearance in a mirror in the washroom. The onesie is that of a bright green dinosaur with a yellow patch on its belly and red spikes going all the way from the top of his hood, down to the bottom of its green tail. There’s even a face on the hood with little white teeth sticking out of it. The green-haired male throws the hood over his head, getting some hair in his eyes and the fabric falling down to his nose.

“This fuckin’ hood is so big, I could fit two of my heads in here,” he grumbles to himself, pushing it up and brushing his hair away. However, he quickly finds himself giggling as he begins to shake, the little tail coming out of his lower back jiggling with his movements. “Time to go slidin’!” he cheers.

Anti spends hours after that, doing nothing but sliding around the house in different rooms, allowing the fabric beneath his feet to carry him swiftly across the smooth flooring. He laughs and giggles, the sound overlaying and even glitching slightly with his growing excitement. It’s the most fun he’s had in weeks.

Once he’s too tired to keep going, Anti grabs himself some blankets and pillows and crashes on the couch, curling up in the warmth and coziness the clothing provides. Anti has never felt more content.

The next day is another new adventure in another onesie. Today, Anti is wearing a black onesie with a skeleton on the front and back in a bright green color. This one doesn’t have a hood but still covers his feet, so he’s still able to slide across the floors.

This time, Anti decides to make things even more interesting for himself. He gets a large piece of wood and draws a bullseye on it with a thick black marker. Once he’s satisfied, he hangs it up on the wall and gets his collection of small knives. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Anti slides across the floor and attempts to throw all his knives into the center of the target.

Needless to say that, by the end of the day, there are many holes in the wall where the makeshift bullseye is. Anti is passed out on the floor beneath it, curled up into a ball while holding himself and his beloved knives scattered around him, both on the floor and stuck in the wall.

For the next few days, Anti continues to occupy himself with different activities, all of them revolving around his onesies somehow, whether that is using them to slide around or for comfort. When the seventh day finally arrives, the green-haired male seems to have lost track of time. He’s forgotten that Dark is scheduled to come home.

Anti is wearing a bat onesie this time. There’s fabric between his arms and torso, acting as wings. He’s sliding and dancing around the house to some silly music and giggling at himself like a dork. Hell, he’s having the time of his life and is completely unaware of the familiar figure standing in the doorway, watching him with amusement.

It takes a solid five minutes before Anti finally notices Dark standing at the entrance of the room, watching him with a mocking grin. The green-haired male freezes in his movements and the radio from which the music is playing begins to glitch with Anti’s surprise. Dark releases a deep chuckle and holds his hands behind his back in a professional manner. He tilts his chin upward, as if attempting to fluster Anti even further.

“I thought you said you’d gotten rid of them?” he questions, his eyes gleaming with mock, “Something about ‘being an adult’ if I remember correctly?”

Anti looks away from Dark and down to the floor, finding it much more interesting than his friends face. The radio has glitched into silence at this point, seemingly weighing down on Anti. He attempts to kick the ground as a distraction, but his foot only slides across the floor and he loses his balance, nearly slipping onto his backside. Dark’s grin widens.

Anti glares at him harshly, face still displaying the shades of his embarrassment. Dark lets a sigh scape his lips.

“Anti, I really couldn’t care less if you want to wear those silly pyjamas. Your little hobby doesn’t bother me in the slightest. You can dance around and slide across the floors all you’d like, I only enjoy teasing you but that really doesn’t mean that it should stop you from doing what you enjoy,” Dark suddenly says, releasing his hands from behind his back and bringing one up to gently brush some hair away from his eyes.

Anti’s eyes soften at his friend’s words. There’s a moment where conflict is seen within him but it is quickly replaced with delight and excitement, almost as bright as the day Dark left for his little trip.

“However,” Dark says, tilting his head downward and looking at Anti sharply. The green-haired male’s face forms an expression of confusion and Dark continues,”I wiLL nOt ToLEraTe YoU ruIniNG mY wAlls, UNderSToOd?”

Shadows are cast across Dark’s face, giving his eyes a redish tint. He speaks through gritted teeth and is leaned forward slightly, looking down at Anti with sharp eyes. The air seems to have gotten thicker and Anti simply nods.

Good, otherwise I will have your head on a silver platter,” Dark threatens before taking in a steady breath to recompose himself, “Oh, and if I find any of those things lying around, I will burn them.”

Anti’s jaw drops and he clenches his fists, eyes gleaming dangerously, “If ya dare try to burn any of my onesies, I’ll kill ya!” he threatens.

“Don’t leave them laying around and we won’t have a problem,” Dark finalizes, his tone signifying that it is no longer open for discussion, “now, go enjoy yourself – without being too reckless. I still have to clean up the mess you’ve made with my wall,” Dark grumbles unhappily.

Without needing anything else to be said, Anti dashes out of the room, nearly crashing into several pieces of furniture as he does so. Dark can hear his giggles becoming distant and muffled the farther he gets from the room.

For the next few weeks, Anti slowly gets used to the idea of being comfortable enough to wear his onesies around Dark without being relentlessly teased about them. Dark still teases him here and there, but not enough to make his friend want to hide them again.

About a month after the confrontation, Dark sighs after the wall that was once filled with holes is finally fixed. He admires it from a distance, being sure that the paint covering it looks just right and that the holes are no longer apparent. A small smile appears on his lips – he’s content with how it turned out.

Suddenly, Anti comes sliding across the floor and into his sight, standing right in front of the spot he was just admiring. He’s wearing his dinosaur onesie and a wide grin is on his face. Dark notices his hands being held behind his back and lifts a curious brow the sight.

“Look, Dark, I found one for ya! It’s a devil onesie!” Anti cheers, pulling his hands out from behind his back. He holds the black fabric up in front of him, allowing it to roll down to the floor. It’s entirely black with the exception of the pointy red tail and horns sticking out of the lower back and the top of the hood, “You’d be so comfy!”

There’s a moment where Dark re-evaluates his choice to be accepting of Anti’s childish obsession. However, after seeing the bright, toothy smile on his friend’s face, he simply lets out a sigh and internally smiles.

“Anti, if you put that on me I will burn you along with all of your onesies.”

“I feel like I haven’t seen you in eight hundred years,” Lukas’s voice says, from the other side of the door.

Philip smiles to himself, glancing over his shoulder.

“Ever since you finished your darkroom, also known as our laundry room, I feel like you’re cheating on me,” Lukas says.

Philip snorts, looking up at the prints he has hanging up to dry. “Yeah,” he says. “I’m cheating on you with you. About—ten or twelve of you.”

Hiya! I have a funny idea for you! What are your headcanons for Yoosung asking Zen to help him work out and them bonding until Yoosung is RIPPED? Reactions at the end result? Zen being proud of his beefy bro? I feel like these two would make such a cute bro relationship once Yoosung gets down to business.

You’re hitting me with another super cute and fun request! Yoosung and Zen are definitely Brotp for me and I super lowkey ship them but I really loved this idea so I made this one longer then I originally planned because I enjoyed writing it so much! Thank you for the request and I hope that you enjoy!! :3

Yoosung and Zen

  • Yoosung had asked Zen if he wanted to hang out with him for the day plus he wanted to ask him an important question
  • Zen, who finally had a day off, agreed since he thought that him and Yoosung should spend more time together
  • Once at the cafe destination, Zen greeted Yoosung, the latter looking extremely nervous about something
  • “Yo Yoosung, what’s up with you? Are you worried about something?” Zen asked as he pushed up his sunglasses to help disguise himself
  • Before Yoosung could even think, he blurted out to his friend “Zen I really need your help, I want to work out and have a body like yours!”
  • Zen blinked a few times in surprise, processing what Yoosung just said while the blonde was blushing from embarrassment
  • “It’s just that I have such a wimpy body and I think that’s one of the reasons why I don’t have a girlfriend. I would really appreciate it if you could help me work out Zen!” Yoosung asked hopefully
  • Zen gave his friend a heartfelt smile then smirked saying “Sure I’ll help you out Yoosung! But on one condition: you have to say ‘I want your help Zen because you have the most perfect body, only fit for a god’ then I’ll help you work out.”
  • Yoosung sighed at his narcissistic friend but swallowed his pride repeating “I want your help Zen because you have the most perfect body, only fit for a god. There, now will you help me?”
  • “Of course Yoosungie! Now let’s get down to business.” Zen said, secretly excited that his friend wanted his help with working out
  • So the next day, Yoosung and Zen met at the gym with Yoosung starting to feel self-conscious about his body
  • Zen could sense Yoosung’s doubt so he gave him a playfully slap on the back and told Yoosung to mirror his stretches
  • Once they were done with their warm-up, Zen had Yoosung lift some weights to see his current strength
  • Yoosung had difficulty lifting the 20 pound weights, putting them down and feeling embarrassed as tears almost fell down his cheeks
  • Zen noticed his friend’s distress and patted his back saying “Hey Yoosung don’t get upset, I know you can do this! It’s going to take some time but I’m here for you. Try thinking of your end goals and results as you work out. We’re going to do this together Yoosung.”
  • With Zen’s helpful encouragement, Yoosung was filled with a new sense of determination, thanking Zen for those much needed words
  • So Zen and Yoosung started going to the gym every weekend and Yoosung’s results were starting to show
  • The two of them would work hard and usually end the day with some protein shakes made by Yoosung
  • Zen was astonished by Yoosung’s progress and soon enough, Yoosung had a body that could rival Zen’s
  • He would stare in awe as Yoosung would flex his muscle, giggling about how awesome he looked thanks to Zen
  • Yoosung gave Zen a sincere smile saying “Hey Zen seriously thank you for all of your help. I can’t believe that I look so good now! You’re a great friend Zen, I really appreciate your help!“
  • Zen ruffled his friend’s hair telling him “No problem buddy. I mean, you’re still not as gorgeous as me but it’s a good start! But in all seriousness, I’m really proud of you Yoosung, I had a lot of fun helping you and we should hang out more often.”
  • Yoosung and Zen became workout buddies from that day on, challenging each other to who could get the better body but both were more happy to spend more time hanging out together

You were slightly younger than your soulmate so when you got your journal there were already things written in it. “Things” meaning there were already seven years of writing in it when you got it. Your soulmate was 25 years old and that’s all you knew. You didn’t know his name or where he lived; the universe did everything in its power to make sure you didn’t meet your soulmate before it was time. "Mates” - Brett Tablot AU Imagine

Prompt by ameleleila - Hi! Can you write a Brett imagine like the mates one with Liam?

Pairing: Brett x Reader
Word Count: 7368

Author’s Note: There was A LOT of pressure to write this fanfic. The “Mates” I wrote for Liam and posted last December got a lot of attention, a lot of love, and nothing but great and positive feedback. It’s special to me. It took me months to write it and it’s one of my favorite fan fictions I’ve ever written, but, honestly, it scares me. It holds such high standards. I’m afraid nothing will ever mount to that, which is why I’ve shot down every request I’ve gotten about making a part two, because I’m scared I’ll ruin the greatness of it.

When ameleleia requested a “Mates” fanfic for Brett, I honestly hesitated at first. I didn’t know if I could do it again and not recycle my work from Liam’s Mates. I pushed aside all my fears and grabbed the bull by the horns. Like Liam’s it was a long process of coming up with the plot and writing down the right words. Now, it’s finally here.

Lastly, this is obviously an AU. There are a few things I don’t follow from the show and made several changes as well.

Without futher ado, enjoy Brett’s Mates and you’re more than welcome to leave me feedback. Happy reading!

P. S. I’m so sorry ameleleia for taking so long with your prompt. I never forgot about your prompt. I was simply taking my time to make it the best I can for you and everyone else. And shout out to freeyourheartandsoul for being an amazing and awesome Beta! :)

My Teen Wolf Masterlist

Age 6 – Elementary

It was a good day. No, it was a great day for a couple of innocent kids playing outside in the front yard, throwing a lacrosse ball back and forth. It was their first year in little league lacrosse, and they were surprisingly good at it for a pair of kids who never played the sport before. Part of it was the constant practice they had with each other before and after their practice with the team.

Like right now, Brett and Liam were playing in Brett’s front yard. They had been playing for about 20 minutes, just running around, pretending they’re playing a real game with their imaginary friends, and passing the ball towards each other. Liam threw the ball to Brett because he was about to get tackled by Cowboy Dyno, Liam’s imaginary purple elephant friend. Brett missed the ball as his eyes followed a moving van pulling up to the front of the house next door.

The ball hit Brett on the back of his right leg, but he didn’t even feel it. He was too distracted by the moving van.

“Duuuude!” Liam exaggerated. “You missed the ball!”

“Finally!” Brett cheered as he completely ignored Liam’s comment. “Some new neighbors!”

Liam walked up to stand next to Brett. “Do you think it’s a boy? Someone we can play with?”

“I hope its Tommy. At practice he said they were moving to a new house.” Brett said as he watched another car pull up to the drive away. Together, Liam and Brett saw a man get out of the moving van, obviously the man of the household. His wife got out of the silver Honda Pilot and helped unbuckled a little girl from the back seat.

“Aww, man!” Liam whined. “It’s a girl.”

“So?”

“She has cooties.” Liam said with so much disgust in his voice.

The little blonde haired girl in pigtails with perfect curls, which bounced with each step she took, started grabbing the light stuff to carry into her new house. Brett ran across his yard and into the one next door, Liam followed trailing behind. The girl stopped in her tracks and smiled at the boys in front of her.

“Hi! I’m Brett and this is Liam!” Brett pointed at Liam, who gave the girl a weak smile and wave, obviously not as excited about her arrival as Brett is. “Do you need some help?”

Brett noticed her cheeky smile. “Hi-ya! I’m Y/N. Maybe after you help me, we can play whatever you’re playing!”

“We’re playing lacrosse,” Liam said. “And you can’t play if you have cooties.”

“I don’t have anymore cooties than you do, Liam.”

Brett laughed at her comeback. She was funny, he thought. I like her.

Women sneered at you, laughing behind your back when they thought you couldn’t hear them, gossiped about you to their friends. But you steeled yourself against the words aimed to hurt you, ignoring the people around you who wanted to see you cry but you refused to give them the satisfaction.

I love the gifset you reblogged with Pete and Gwen! I was just wondering what was wrong(?) with the Homecoming review you mentioned in your tags? What are your thoughts on Homecoming? :) Anyways love your blog and your writing! Have a great day!

Thank you! So I have somewhat unsuccessfully attempted not to be Really Negative about Homecoming, except on twitter where I’ve clearly given up altogether, but heads up: I’m about to be pretty negative because I care way too much about Peter Parker. My opinions are my own, etc. Right off the bat: I actually do think Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be a fun summer movie. It’s probably well-written and engaging! It looks like a good movie about a teenage superhero coming into his own and I’m excited about the diverse cast.

It also, in my own opinion, looks like a terrible movie about Peter Parker.

There was nothing wrong with the review (it was in USA Today) so much as that literally everything it described made me, a person who loves Peter Parker, cringe. Full disclaimer that I haven’t seen Homecoming yet and it’s plausible I might like it in the end! I won’t, but it’s plausible! So everything I’m talking about is based on interviews with the cast and creators/trailers and released scenes/etc.

But I’ve got so much beef with this movie I practically own a cattle ranch.

I’m just going to try to hit my main complaints: Ned Leeds, or, This Should Have Been a Miles Morales Movie, Peter as a New Yorker, Peter Parker vs Spider-Man: A Fake Argument, and Why We Actually Do Need To Know How Ben Died, Thanks. “Traincat, how much have you thought about this?” I don’t want to talk about it! Except I do, under the cut:

I get a ton of messages basically asking the same question: How do I make myself the best applicant to medical school I can be?

1. Most imporantly: Do everything in your power to be a well rounded applicant
- Pick a major your interested, does NOT have to be a science major!

– Just because you want to be a doctor or work in healthcare doesn’t mean only science topics interest you! You can be an art major and still take all the courses required for premed. Ex. I did anthropology and Psychology, I have premed friend who were engineering and music majors.

- Volunteer in the community with organizations that you are passionate about, NOT just ones that look good on an application

– These should be diverse but should be things you are passionate about, if you get more out of planting trees than volunteering in a hospital gift shop, thats okay! Volunteer in different groups and organizations, some should be medically related but they don’t all have to be! Showing a commitment to life long service doesn’t just mean in medicine.

- Shadow: different fields of medicine and not just doctors, look into dentistry, nursing, psychology, social work –> figure out what type of healthcare provider you want to be. Contacting people may seem scary but it never hurts to ask, look for positions available, write them an email talking about the strengths and skills you have, maybe you don’t have a lot of experience but you can still be a fast learner and hard worker!

- Research: if this seems boring to you, find someone researching something you’re interested in so you will actually enjoy it! I appreciated the results of research but always thought working in it would be boring and it was just another thing I had to do to put on my application. I was very WRONG! I found something lab researching a topic I was interested and it consumed me, I now have a greater understanding research and how fun it can be exploring a hypothesis!

- Extracurricular: again do what your are passionate about, everything does not have to be about medicine, different life experiences teach you different life lessons. I learned different things from being VP of my Doctor Who club vs.  in my medical internship vs. being a ski instructor!

- Study hard: create study groups, find tutors or be a tutor! If you are struggling in a class, study groups are shown to be a very effective way of studying, or spend the money on getting a tutor because it will be worth it in the end. When you are struggling in a class, especially a premed class, it can be a good time to reflect on whether this is a career for you. Being a doctor means a lifetime of learning, school, and tests. Seriously look into other career you might be interested in, its okay to change your mind about medical school, there are other careers in medicine, or other professions you might enjoy more. Everything in life takes hard work, its finding what you can endlessly work hard for. General Chemistry made me seriously look at whether of not this was the right path for me. After some serious self reflection, there was nothing else I could work this hard for.

- Time management: Managing work, school, social life and everything else can be hard, don’t take on too much, figure out your limits, remember to ask for help when you need it and to take care of yourself. If you push yourself too hard you will break, we are not invincible. Its okay to say no, to take time for yourself!

Keep a detailed resume of all your actives, exact dates of when they started and ended, who to contact about them and a detailed summary of what you did and what you learned form your experiences! This will help you immensely when filling out your AMCAS

If your application isn’t perfect or not very well rounded (lacking in areas), I highly recommend taking time off to fill those gaps. The biggest reason people who apply straight out of college don’t get in, even with great applications is maturity level. You may think, I am adult, I am mature! But just because you can act professionally doesn’t mean you are mature. The maturity they are looking for is achieved through life experiences. Many college kids really haven’t had much life experiences other that college, what adversities have you overcome, do you even really know who you are yet outside of your college experience.

I have take two years off, even though I had a pretty good application before, it has only become stronger and I have lived life, I thought I knew who I was before but I really had explored that until I was out of college on my own.

Optional: Take time off before applying (Recommended)
- Gaining more life experiences: Maybe move to a new place or Travel

- Get a Masters Degree: this can help boost your GPA if it is not competitive

- Work: doesn’t have to be in medicine but if you lack hand-on patient experiences than this is great opportunity to chance that! If you have never worked a job, than I highly recommend taking time off and working for a living to experience what its like to pay your own bills

- Learn about who you are: this will help you appear more mature when interviewing and make you more confident

The Process of Applying

- Competitive MCAT Score: you don’t have to pay for a course, do what works best for you. I believe the examkracker books were most helpful, Kaplan tend to have the hardest BS and PS practice test but Examkrackers is the best for VR. If you don’t do well the first time, figure out what went wrong and retake it! Learn from this experience because your future in medicine will require many more standardized tests so figuring out how to best prepare for them now will help you in the future!

- Picking Medical Schools: pick 15 schools, have a few reach schools and a few back up school and then the rest ones you can reasonably get into. Take into account their curriculums, locations and if you are thinking about a competitive speciality look at the what residencies their students are matching! If you are interested in research, or rural care, looks at schools that over special programs for these paths.

- Letters of Rec/Committee Letter: hopefully in college you made meaningful relationships with professors you had (you should definitely do this!), you will need a science class professor letter of rec, if you did research you will need one from your PI, if you worked with a doctor for an extended period ask them to write you one or if you worked with a volunteer organization for a long period.  Write them a nice letter in why you are asking them, provide them with your resume and all the information they need to know as well as where to send it to. Its okay to send emails reminding them to write it, they are busy people and reminding them shows it is important to you. Also figure out if your school offers a committee letter and be diligent about keeping up on every thing you need to do for it.

Primary Application AMCAS

- Personal statement- make it personal, talk about experiences that have lead you hear today, but most importantly what you learned from them. This is about you, WHY YOU? vs. everybody else who is applying. This is a Persuasive essay!

- Academic Record- make sure to request you transcripts to be sent as soon as possible so AMCAS can verify them quickly

- 15 Activities - out of everything you have done you have to pick the 15 most important activities you have done and briefly talk about them. Then you get to pick three that were most important

Secondaries

- Strong Essays- These are your chance to show again why you!? highlight your strengths when you can, make sure they are concise and well written free of grammatical errors. Ask friends to read them over for you.

- Resume - Remember that detailed resume I told you to about keeping! Many schools allow you to upload addition documents like a resume! Now beyond your 15 they have a list of all the actives you have ever done and what you have learned from them!

- Headshot- passport photo size, 2 x 2 inches. Dress profession, SMILE, only should show show just below the shoulder and up. Remember this is their first glimpse of you, putting the face together with your application!

- Research abstract - if you did research, make sure to have a document with just your abstract to upload if the offer additional documents area.

Interviewing

1. Practice - Practice answering interview questions, use examples, highlight your strengths! Try limiting your answer to two to 3 minute: look up “Elevator Speech” - pitch to the ceo a great idea on an elevator ride of only 4 floors!

2. Reading - the more you read the smarter you are! Reads books about doctors and their experiences, how to apply to medical school, affordable healthcare act, current events, current events in medicine, NIH, read papers on tough ethical topics, read papers published by people from that school, read everything you can on their schools website! Schedule a mock interview, video record yourself answering questions.

3. What to wear -
Females - professional fitted pants suit or suit with skirt no more than an inch about knees with skin tone matching stockings. flats or heels no more than 2 inches high, make sure you can walk all day in them. simple jewelry, studs and a necklace, no more than one ring on each hang. nothing big and distracting. suite should be black, navy, or gray. Blouse or profession top not showing cleavage. If you hair is long wear it back. Make up, light. You don’t want anything distracting from what you’re saying!
Males- Well fitted suit, tie (safer) or bow-tie, pick a professional one that is not busy looking or distracting. Suit color: black, navy or gray. business professional shoes. Belt and shoe color must match.

Don’t wear fragrances (but wear deodorant!), bring a briefcase or similar size professional purse or professional folder (just need something to hold business cards and papers). Look well manicured make sure nails are trimmed and neutral colors only.

Remember to be professional, have a firm handshake, ask them for their business card at the end to write them a handwritten thank you letter. Sit up straight, smile, be you, and don’t forget its a conversation so don’t be over rehearse your answers. If you don’t know the answer to a question, say “I honestly don’t know the answer to that”. Come up with a list of your 3 strengths and weakness and examples of each as well as what you are doing to work on your weaknesses.

Good luck! One day your hard work will pay off, there will be bumps along the way but each one will teach you something and bring you closer to your dream of going to medical school!

jael-paris  asked:

Hey, resident script writer! Could you tell us more about script doctoring since we all just learned Carrie Fisher's been doing it in the shadows for decades?

Of course! XD And thanks for asking!

First, let me give you the technical definition of a script doctor, as given to us by the Great God Wikipedia:

[[Screencap of Google Wikipedia result, which says: A script doctor, also called a script consultant, is a screenwriter or playwright hired by a film, television or theatre production to rewrite an existing script or polish specific aspects of it, including structure, characterization, dialogue, pacing, theme, and other elements.]]

This is true, as far as it goes. What this definition leaves out, though, is that a script doctor is the Hollywood screenplay version of a ghost-writer – meaning, they don’t usually get official credit for their work.  They are paid a set amount to “doctor” an existing script – which can mean anything from a quick “punch up” (i.e., a polish,) of the existing dialogue and action, to a rewrite of the plot itself – but the credit for the screenplay will most likely still be given to the original screenwriter(s).

Why is this? Well, for a number of reasons, both commercial and artistic.

Firstly, we must remember that writers work in a primarily intellectual and intangible medium – words on paper can be easily scrubbed out, files erased, and notes lost. So it becomes difficult sometimes to prove that a story came from one writer’s brain as opposed to another. Things get even more complicated because there are those who are the Idea Guys, those who are the Collaboration Kids, those who are the Nuts and Bolts Gals, and those who are all three. So, one person might have come up with the idea for a movie or a television pilot, written the treatment (synopsis,) or outlined the story – and then another person will be the one who actually writes the script.

Because of this, one of the most often contested issues in the Writer’s Guild becomes, “Who gets credit for this??” This is vital, because whoever gets the credit gets three VERY important things:

  1. A reputation-boosting line on their resume
  2. A step towards eligibility to join the WGA, the writers’ union
  3. The right to residual profits (i.e., royalties.)

Since a screenwriter’s career depends entirely upon selling their next script, you can see how gaining a good reputation and joining the union is of utmost importance. As for royalties, while often not much, they can be enough to keep a writer from homelessness in lean times – also rather important.

And yet. And YET. Just because someone came up with the idea, or wrote a screenplay, doesn’t mean it’s good. In fact, one of the best-kept secrets in the industry is just how AWFUL first drafts can be. But the machine needs to be fed, meaning that if an agent or a producer sees potential in a poorly written mess of a script, they’ll still try to pitch it, getting as much momentum and interest for the story itself until they inevitably run into the road-block of said poor story, dialogue, characterization, etc.

This is when they call in the script-doctor – usually someone experienced, with a knack for witty dialogue or fixing plot holes. (This happens a hell of a lot with both comedy and action scripts, for some strange reason.)

But why call in a third-party at all, you ask? Why not give a few notes/criticisms, then let the original writer take another crack at it?

The answer is eminently practical: We believe what you show us. If a screenwriter has turned in a mess of a script, the producers who see it assume that said mess is the best that writer can do – otherwise, why wouldn’t they have submitted something better? Since every re-write takes time and money, it’s a much safer bet to give the mess to a veteran writer you KNOW can turn out good product than to give the moron who screwed it up the first time a chance to screw up again.

The problem with this approach, however, is that once a script doctor takes control, at what point does the script stop being the intellectual property of the original writer, and start being the property of the person who’s rebuilt it from the ground up?

A perfect example of this would be the over 30 uncredited screenwriters who worked on the movie The Flinstones. THIRTY WRITERS! Why? Well, every time the film changed directors, or producers, it was given to a new writer or group of writers to do a draft. The original story ended up being chopped and changed and sewn back together a bazillion times. It came out barely watchable mush, but that’s not the point; the point is, it still made money, so who gets it?

Deciding on the credit for The Flintstones became such a circus that it forced the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) to change its bylaws.  Now, a screenwriter must contribute more than 50% of a script, or 33% of an adaptation, to retain credit.

So, in order to keep a script doctor at the level of “ghost-writer”, or uncredited, the production company only has to make certain that they use only 49% of the script doctor’s rewrites. Or that they hire two script doctors, and split the rewrites half-and-half. Of course, sometimes the script doctor has to do what they call a “page-one” rewrite, meaning they basically recreated the script from the ground up. That guy gets a writing credit for sure. But since the WGA does not like having more than 3 writers credited on any given project, a producer’s choices might be influenced by not wanting to have to go to arbitration in order to give credits to the 10 writers that actually helped the project.

Thing is, all writers all good writers have the ability to edit and fix other people’s work. It’s really far easier to fix a poorly executed story that already exists than to come up with something original oneself. So often, well-established writers will take script doctoring jobs on the down low to help pay the bills, and just forget about the credits because

  1. They don’t need the credits that badly, and
  2. They get more out of gaining a reputation as a good script doctor, like future jobs as word gets around about them.

This, I believe, was how it worked for our Carrie. She was well-known in the industry for her ability to fix terrible dialogue, although there were a few movies she worked on that I don’t think anyone could have salvaged. The first time she showed her dialogue-honing chops was rumored to be by fixing her own lines in the original Star Wars trilogy. Lucas was so impressed with her work there that years later he asked her to do a punch up on Attack of the Clones, and to write a script for the Young Indy series

She also punched up Hook, Sister Act, The Wedding Singer, and a bunch of others.  Here’s a short video about her script-doctoring career:

So, that’s how it works! But if you’re thinking of doing this for a living, understand that it’s harder nowadays to get into script doctoring, because they make you pitch ideas and notes before they give you a chance – and who wants to give their ideas away for free??

If you want to read more, there’s a short article on script doctoring here that I like.

About Magnus and Camille’s relationship

I like analyzing aspects so while we wait for the Shadowhunters TV Show to comeback I started writing things while rereading the books and rewatching the show. I’m sorry for the mistakes and the length (it’s REALLY long). If anyone is even interested to know more about things in general, I could go on and write about other aspects. If not, well, it will stay a one time thing.
Thanks to the @reivenesque, @sfjessii, @alyxhavok and my wuv (<3) for reading it and for the support!

I never particularly liked Camille, mainly for her superficiality and lack of concern for the ones who love her or are devoted to her. The fact that Magnus “falls in love” with her is not dictated by her personality, but it is more about the fact that she’s a vampire (hence immortal), fun to be with, and beautiful. Their relationship is not a healthy one by the end of it all, and I’m really proud of how Magnus handled it.
Let me explain.

Writing Tips - General - Pt.1

Disclaimer: I’m just a fandom writer and I write for fun and I realized that whenever I sit down and write I seem to learn something. That’s why I’m doing this series: I just want to collect what I learned so far so that it might help others. I never took writing courses so these tips won’t be very technical at all but just the result of my own experience so far.

Some (most) of these tips will only apply to fandom writers.

My biggest tip is:

READ

Obviously read books and read fics, because fics are a very specific kind of subgenre of literature that has its own rules. True, some fics could be read as novels or as short stories, but most of them rely on very specific tropes that are much easier (generally speaking) to explore if you’re just starting out.

For example, I was always an avid reader, but before I started being active in the world of fandom and actually started reading fanfiction, I had no idea about the different kinds of AUs and tropes.

Knowing and reading what’s already out there can be scary at first. You’ll read a perfect coffee shop AU that you wished you’d written yourself and you’ll wonder, “But why should I put myself out there? Why should I write something when other people are already doing it and doing it better than me?”

The thing to remember is that readers will always want to read something, no matter how many times they’ve read the same trope applied to the same fictional couple, so one coffee shop AU isn’t enough. Good thing you’re just now planning to write one, right?

And the thing is, you won’t actually know if your writing is good or not unless you try. Even if your first fic isn’t that good, writing is something that you get better at with time and with practice, so there really isn’t any reason not to write (unless you have no interest in trying it).

Let’s say you’re now convinced that you want to try writing something: you might still be wondering how you’re going to get ideas for a fic or a story.

I think we’ve all been there. So…

HOW DO I GET IDEAS?

If you’re someone who doesn’t have a lot of imagination (like me), the thought of writing something is really scary. Of course, you can’t write a story without ideas, so I want to go over a few ways to actually start getting them.

Interact with the fandom

You don’t have to participate actively and you can just reblog stuff, but in my experience, the more you interact (even just by commenting on someone else’s post or tweet), the more your brain starts working on ideas that are yours.

I basically see it as an exercise or workout: the more you do squats the more your muscles build themselves, right? The same way, the more you get your brain to think of even just small headcanons (like, what does a character like to eat? Are they a morning person or a night owl?), the more you’ll get used to thinking up new ideas that could potentially become a full story.

Oh, and when I say interact, I really do mean interact. I was really surprised when I first came to tumblr and found out that it’s perfectly normal for people to randomly start talking to you in your DMs, and the conversation usually starts with some headcanon or just general screaming about your favorite characters or something that just happened recently in the fandom. Sometimes that wraps up in a couple of lines, but others it can lead to wonderful virtual friendships. While that’s amazing on its own, it’s actually also a great support system for any content creators (especially writers), because so many ideas are born out of simple conversations.

Know your sources

The better you know your fandom, the more ideas you’ll get. You’ll start seeing details of a character’s personality that you didn’t see or read the first time, you’ll re-analyze a certain interaction, etc. It’s very difficult to write fanfiction if you’ve only watched/read canon once.

Sometimes canon is not enough: find metas about characters and scenes and interactions. Metas aren’t canon, but they help a lot and you’ll not only understand things better, you’ll also get new ideas for content you want to write.

Know other sources

You and your ideas don’t and shouldn’t exist in a vacuum. A lot of great ideas come from knowing other works so you can make AUs and retellings.

Also try to remember the difference between the two and ask yourself which one fits better:

  • [fictional source] AU: the story should be more or less the same as your source and set in the same world, but the characters will be the ones from the fandom you’re writing for.
  • [fictional source] retelling: your plot is heavily inspired by [fictional source] but you add elements or take away what you don’t need if something from the original source doesn’t fit your characters. It can also be set somewhere different (for example modern retellings of fairy tales).

Know your tropes

Knowing popular (and less popular) tropes helps you think about what kind of story you want to write. It also helps you categorize the different stories you read and start thinking about them in a more analytical way.

You need to see the mechanisms (enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, etc) behind a story to be able to analyze it and relate it to other stories, and understand which rules you want to follow once you understand what trope you’re using for your story.

Notice that I said which rules you want to follow, because I think it’s perfectly fine (and even admirable) to be more daring and break trope rules or mix them up. No matter what you want to do, you definitely need to know them first, and then you can start writing them and/or changing them and making them your own.

BEFORE WRITING

Okay, you have a few ideas now (you don’t need to have the full plot before you start writing, but at least an outline would be nice - I have another post planned about plot so look out for that).

There are a few extra steps you might want to take. Most of these you will kind of just feel in your gut without really having to think about it, but in case that doesn’t happen, here’s a noncomprehensive list of a few of them.

Understand what your story needs in terms of POV:

A POV can make or break a story. There are some things that just don’t work well in a certain person, or they’re extremely difficult to pull off.

Learn what your favorite POV is when you read, and that will probably be the POV you’ll write best.

Regardless of the type of POV, your story might need more than one (if it’s third person limited or first person). It’s difficult to describe how you can understand it, and I think it has a lot to do with plotting and characterization:

Do you want to keep a character’s motives mysterious until the Big Reveal of chapter 16? Then you should stick to only one character POV. Does your fic follow more than one storyline? Then you will almost definitely need more than one POV.

In case it needs more than one POV:

First of all, I can’t stress this enough: make it understandable when the POV switches. Be it with a completely different chapter or a visual separation, make sure your reader understands it.

With that said, you need to know your story and ask yourself, What POV works best for this scene?

A scene can be extremely powerful and memorable from one POV but completely dull and boring from another. It all comes down to the different characters’ personalities and I can’t possibly cover all the different examples and scenarios in this post, but if you’re familiar with your fictional world enough then you should be able to understand it yourself.

Understand what the best tense for your story is:

This is something that for me usually just happens by itself when I start writing the first few paragraphs. I’ve started fics deciding that they needed to be in a past tense, and then no matter how many verbs I wrote down, my mind would always make me write them in present tense unless I forced a past tense in there. But that’s the thing, whatever you write, it should never feel forced. That’s when I realized that present tense was what felt more natural to the story, and it didn’t matter that I don’t even like present tense. The story didn’t want to be written any other way.

Follow your instinct on this.

Understand what the best format is:

Ask yourself: Is it going to be a long fic with 20 chapters or a one shot? Do you only have enough material for a drabble?

Every fic length is valid in my opinion, but you need to be clear about what you want.

If you do decide to make your fic chaptered, try to make each chapter its own little story, with a beginning, a plot/character arc and an end (which can absolutely be a small cliffhanger, but try to not abuse it).

SHOULD I TELL SOMEONE?

So this is a point I wanted to include even though it’s not exactly about writing itself, BUT I think it’s important to talk about.

Should you tell someone, “Hey, I have this awesome fic in mind that I really want to write!”?

I don’t think the answer to this is universal. I think generally speaking telling someone definitely helps you stick to your goal, especially if people get excited about your WIP.

It can also backfire though, you can get anxious about other people expecting something from you when you’re at a point where you don’t even know whether you’ll actually write/finish your story or not.

(A small addition on this: if you’re like me, you’ll never know whether you’re actually going to publish something until you’ve written all of it. You might have written more than half of your fic and then decide that you don’t want to continue it, for whatever reason. If nobody is expecting it anyway, you’ll feel less bad about abandoning your work because you won’t feel like you’re disappointing anyone.)

This is one of those things that require for you to know yourself because only you will know whether people’s expectations can be a motivation or a hindrance for you.

My suggestion is not to tell anyone right away if you’ve never written anything in your entire life. Posting without anyone (not even my virtual friendships) knowing about it was what made it possible for me to actually write. I only began sharing and interacting with people as a writer here on tumblr after about three fics (two of which were chaptered ones) and getting enough positive feedback, but I still keep my real identity hidden because I don’t want anyone IRL to be able to find my stuff.

If you know you’re going to be very self conscious about your work, I encourage you to start a tumblr alias like I did, because it can be liberating to write what you want to write without being afraid of what people will think of you if they actually find your fics.

Of course, this is what worked for me and it might not work for everybody, but try to take measures to protect yourself if that’s the only way you you think you can publish your writing without feeling scared.

This post is already too long so Pt.2 is coming soon!

The Heart Knows But Can’t Explain

Summary: From the first moment that David Nolan stepped into his life, Killian Jones hasn’t been sure how he feels about him. Or what it means about his own identity.
Rating: T
Notes: For @starlessness/@hencethebravery on the occasion of her birth, and also because she is a shining light who deserves only good things. This is my attempt to give back.

(Also y’all need to check out her writing, it is so gorgeous, like, please go read her writing.)

This story is romantic Captain Charming, so if that’s not your thing, GOOD NEWS you don’t have to read it and can go about your day, and we’ll all be happy and everything will be fine.

Guys night was a time-honored tradition that Killian had always clung to. Boston wasn’t a large city, but it was easy for him to feel lost and alone somehow. What had begun as a quick drink every month or so with his coworker had become a night out or in every other week with four men who had become his closest friends. It was a crucial anchor that kept him from floating adrift in loneliness that no number of one-night stands could ease.

Tonight they were at Jeff’s place to watch basketball. Killian privately thought the sport was absurd, but not enough that he would cancel his plans. Besides, Graham had just gotten back from Vermont with some Heady Topper, and if the man was willing to share it, Killian wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity.

When he arrived at Jeff’s, he was surprised to find not three men watching the game, but four.

Painter!Winwin

Masterlist

• thank you for requesting! honestly i can imagine winwin as a painter, he seems like he’d be involved in the arts in some capacity whatever he does in life

• also he’d be a fashion chameleon like i can totally see him rocking the classic turtleneck one day, then a bright patterned suit for night (”winwin we’re at ikea” - an exasperated jaehyun), and then literally a tshirt with 5 holes in it at 4am because he’s been painting the night away

• anyway lets gooooo
